You emergency headlamp is my only headlamp! I love the low weight and teeny size and it's bright enough for my needs. I also loved those compressed cloths, not seen those before! But if I want to know the weather I'll just look outside the tent!
I've a similar mug stove set up and the same sea to summit cup but I fit the cup in the bag on top of the mug lid, nips up securely and keeps it all together

I use a Victorinox Walker personally, it's bigger at 84mm but also has a saw which is occasionally useful if you need to cut an emergency tent peg or repair a pole or even a crutch/walking stick. Also one of my most used bits of kit that I never expected to be (got it free with something else) is a Trespass Drip Clip, a little microfibre towel in a bag with a carabiner. Lives on the strap of my rucksack and gets used for wiping off sweat (or rain more often in Scotland!), cleaning sunglasses, as a heatshield from hot pot handles, drying morning dew off my tent and dozens of other things.
@@PaulMessner The Huntsman is UK legal carry, as most SAKs are. Anything under 7.62cm/3" cutting edge and non-locking is legal. There's a good guide on the UK Gov website, I'd post a link but TH-cam tends not to allow that.
@@cruachan1191 They're legal EDC here but there are places where you may not carry any blade whatsoever either by law (in the case of all educational institutions) or other regulations i.e. pubs, clubs, sports venues etc.
Got to love all the little bits we carry that can make a huge difference. I always make sure I take ear plugs too, but rarely use them, just great to have in really high winds to help with sleep. Also a lightweight merino wool hat, as I pull over my eyes to keep light out in the summer months

I used to be like you...lots of little items spread over multiple pockets. Two problems with this...(i) I could never remember where I stored things and (ii) bulging pockets! I then got a chest pack (a Helikon Tex Numbat that does not clip to the front of my backpack but is independent thereof) and life got better. All the little items are stored together and no bulging pockets. Also handy if you have to ditch your backpack in an emergency provided you also keep a few "survival" items inside.
I have a very similar set of gadgets and gizmos. From the Leatherman Micra (rip) and an almost identical carabiner, to a mini pot and stove setup. Always good to see what others carry 😁
I’m a fan of the Victorinox small pen knife. One of these is always with me, it lives on my bunch of keys. Used daily. (Safety warning… don’t accidentally pull out the knife blade and use that without looking when you want to file your nails!)😂
In the ‘80s I put together a small but comprehensive kit, including the mini Lofty Wiseman book, under my car seat, for emergencies. My garage was burgled, the Police recovered my kit, and I was carefully interviewed by a DC and a WDC, I think they thought I was a ‘sleeper’. The DC said, I wish I had a kit like that.. Memo to self, check the contents every year..
Nearly got me a petzl a couple of days back after watching this. Got to millets, picked it up and then noticed the nebo micro. It's basically the same, however, it has a clip on it to attach to a baseball cap = game changer
Great choice of tiny little helpers, Paul! I own some of your presented items as well. In addition, I always carry a mini RovyVon Aurora flashlight. Weighs almost nothing, is very bright and can also be attached to a baseball cap instead of wearing a common headlamp.
I’ve got a Petzl E-lite too as a back up, great it has a whistle built into the strap. A few small items I like to carry are ear plugs, a midge head-net, a Silva Ranger compass, Lifesystems whistle and a Piezo ignitor.
Getting back to your old self hopefully, take small steps, one at a time Paul, I know it'll take some time but I've been where you are & you'll get there.
Paul : I learned something the other day . I was watching Jim Baird Adventurer the other day. He was out Canoeing all day , it was 10pm when he arrived at his campsite so he got something to eat and went right to bed . He was so tired he left his Jetboil outside . It rained that night at 3pm. When he got up to make coffee his Jetboil was flooded ! The jets to pump the gas were plugged ! It was totally destroyed ! If a pro like Jim can destroy his Jetboil , then it can happen to a couple of novices like me and You ! So my advice to You is Take Your Jetboil inside at night ! Jim was in Canada, where he could build a camp fire to make coffee and cook on . For You it would be more serious ,where You are not allowed to have an open fire by Law ! Good Luck Mike

I have the same Victorinox knife. It's my EDC and being tiny it's safe to use it in public or at work without causing anyone any alarm. Only downside is I'm on my third one now as they're easy to lose!

Great tiny gadget reveal! I didn't realize there was even a 350 ml pot. That would be more like an espresso shot than a full brew. lol I will say that if I were to carry a very small lightweight alcohol stove, I have a cheap fancy feast cat food can that I emptied and just punched holes (with a paper punch) around the lid in two rows offset. It does not require a pot stand of any type and your cup sits directly on it, but a piece of foil would probably be recommended for a wind break. Rather than the Petzl (which is really cute) I have one of these that I found on Amazon. It glows in the dark which is awesome! Sometimes I need a hand held light to look at the ground a little more closely if night hiking or need to see the terrain better. Its super tiny and rechargeable - ( RovyVon Aurora A8x LED Keychain Flashlight, 650 High Lumen XP-G3 Super Bright with EDC Mini Size, Micro USB Rechargeable,10 Modes)
@@simonh6371 It was kind of a joke, like hiker midnight isn't actually midnight. I don't know about you, but having a good coffee in the morning is essential. I'd have to make it quite a bit stronger, we can call it a "hiker espresso," to get a proper caffeine boost with a smaller pot like that. Everything is bigger on trail. ; )
If you go for the Victorinox manager, it's the same size as yours but you'll have a pen and a philips screwdriver. But you have to choose between toothpick and tweezers (comes with both).
Those tablet expandable towels aren't biodegradable, but they do make great tinder for your fire... Once you've used it a few times and it's torn apart and hard to use again, just stuff it in your pocket to be used as fire starting material...

@@ricker76er Handy until the spring on them breaks and you find you won't get one back if you send it in for warranty repair/replacement, instead they send you a Micra. To be honest the scissors on the Squirt are wank anyway, so much blade play they will not cut through fine stuff like hairs, threads, plastic bags etc, as well as not being capable enough to deal with thicker stuff like paracord etc. Since the scissors on mine broke I carry it in combination with an SAK with scissors, today I'm carrying it with the Climber.

I don't empty my pockets out at airports. I wear a travel gilet (vest) and have all my stuff in the pockets. I just take it off, out it in the tray walk through the scanning screen and then put it back on. Saves a lot of messing about. I do have to take out the phone and separate it out though. If I don't wear a gilet I do the same with a sling bag, fill it with all of my gear. I really don't like stuff in my pockets, especially anything that will stick into me, keys etc. When I hike I do the same, I carry a small sling bag which never leaves my should and carries all of my emergency gear.
I take an inflatable Camode with a large plastic liner to do my number 2 in as I don't like digging a hole out in open. Sorry abit gross but very useful.
For women, a reusable pee cloth for when there’s no toilet and you’ve got to squat. No more drip drying and it doesn’t retain odours even after multiple uses. Cleans with water.
There are also urinary devices like the PStyle so you don’t even have to squat! Do bring a lattice bit of camp soap or bar soap to clean the cloth every day or so. They do start to smell.
Seem's like Paul has never been on a flight before...You can't take a bottle of highly flammable liquid fuel for an Alcohol stove on a flight, and you certainly can't take a knife, even the Classic SD, on a flight! The lighter is likely to get confiscated too...Buy your fuel and lighter when you get to your destination, as both are extremely cheap and easy to find in Europe. If you must have a knife, buy a cheap one out there and leave it behind when you fly back or it will only get confiscated anyway. A USB-C rechargeable Mini Flashlight is a much better lighting solution than the Petzl E-Lite. The E-Lite weighs 28g on it's own and considerably more when it's kept in that red shell case. The Mini Flashlight only weighs 12.57g and isn't much bigger than a AA battery so it can slip into even the smallest pocket or you can hang it round your neck on a lanyard. Also it offers far more power (up to 400 lumens), more lighting modes (4 different white light settings for the front beam, and on the side lanterns...solid white, flashing white, solid UV, solid red, flashing red, and red and blue flashing), and much better battery life (up to an hour at 400 lumens, 2 hours at 300 lumens, and 32 hours at 21 lumens). It's also much cheaper than the Petzl...Only £7 on ebay!
I know this will seem really really pedantic 😄. The lighter you have, adjustable flame? I ask cos I am smoker, and I always go for lighters with a flame adjuster 👍

I have a sleeveless jacket full of pockets for that -- just take it on and off rather than unloading every time you change your clothes. weighs a couple of kilos though :-(

I think they were first designed by Wysi Wipes, those are biodegradable and I even use them as toilet paper. Honestly very underrated piece of kit.

I carry on my key ring a Niteise Doohickey. Never thought I’d ever use it, yet seem to use it every day!

my ear plugs live in the pockets of my tent , never need to check if i`ve remembered them

I like the Glow Rhino Tritium Key fob to help with finding anything it’s attached to in the dark. Super helpful for keys, etc.
The good thing about Swiss Army knives is many of the parts can be replaced, even the spring for the scissors

I brought a Knipex cobra xs, it's so tiny it fits in the watch pocket of your jeans and is excellent for grabbing hot things and losing nuts.

Ever seen the American benchmade knives? I have the bugout . Bit pricey but ultra light and tough at about 50g and has a ridiculously sharp blade.

Hi Mate, the pot and the burner dosn't work without a pot stand.
The one thing you really need is that little string. The rest is all gadgets for fun.

I take an inflatable Camode with a large plastic liner to do my number 2 in as I don't like digging a hole out in open. Sorry abit gross but very useful.

For women, a reusable pee cloth for when there’s no toilet and you’ve got to squat. No more drip drying and it doesn’t retain odours even after multiple uses. Cleans with water.
There are also urinary devices like the PStyle so you don’t even have to squat! Do bring a lattice bit of camp soap or bar soap to clean the cloth every day or so. They do start to smell.

Seem's like Paul has never been on a flight before...You can't take a bottle of highly flammable liquid fuel for an Alcohol stove on a flight, and you certainly can't take a knife, even the Classic SD, on a flight! The lighter is likely to get confiscated too...Buy your fuel and lighter when you get to your destination, as both are extremely cheap and easy to find in Europe. If you must have a knife, buy a cheap one out there and leave it behind when you fly back or it will only get confiscated anyway. A USB-C rechargeable Mini Flashlight is a much better lighting solution than the Petzl E-Lite. The E-Lite weighs 28g on it's own and considerably more when it's kept in that red shell case. The Mini Flashlight only weighs 12.57g and isn't much bigger than a AA battery so it can slip into even the smallest pocket or you can hang it round your neck on a lanyard. Also it offers far more power (up to 400 lumens), more lighting modes (4 different white light settings for the front beam, and on the side lanterns...solid white, flashing white, solid UV, solid red, flashing red, and red and blue flashing), and much better battery life (up to an hour at 400 lumens, 2 hours at 300 lumens, and 32 hours at 21 lumens). It's also much cheaper than the Petzl...Only £7 on ebay!

I know this will seem really really pedantic 😄. The lighter you have, adjustable flame? I ask cos I am smoker, and I always go for lighters with a flame adjuster 👍
Some do and some don’t. The Soto torch I use is the best I have. Wind proof and has never let me down.
