Dr Dray. You save us money. I love that you suggest affordable products for skin care and don’t have to break the bank. You don’t need high end to get results. I’ve said this before. But you have saved me soooo much money. 😘
I agree. Luxury skincare is NOT worth it. The most important thing is finding a simple cleanser/moisturizer/spf routine that you’ll use daily, then add in actives (like retinol and vitamin C) as needed.
I've always heard store brands are just as good as name brands. Usually, I can't tell the difference with ones I've compared. Although as you stated, the cleansers definitely were different. Thanks for making the comparisons in this video. I'd be interested in seeing more like this. Enjoy the day!
I am both Team Cetaphil and Team Cerave, depending on which product. After using up the products, my preferences: for Moisturizing Cream or lotion--- definitely CeraVe. for Gentle Cleanser -- love Cetaphil. for Daily Moisturizer & SPF -- Cetaphil wins. for SA cleanser -- CeraVe.
I’m more of a CeraVe kinda girl! Love the hydrating facial cleanser (I keep it in my shower) and the healing ointment is always part of my skincare regimen! 👍🏼💖 The ceramides are EVERYTHING for eczema prone skin.
@@calgcfc1 I found it pretty hydrating, and it cleared up my contact dermatitis or eczema whatever was happening. However, I’ve been hearing that it has some ingredients that are carcinogens. But have not heard that about CereVe so I would like to hear more about that.
I've found that some generic products are just as good and damn near identical to the name brand equivalent, while others aren't. Equate can be hit or miss. Up&Up from Target and the Walgreens generics are usually the best in my experience.
@@rm5146 ooh! That's a great idea! Id love a video comparing multiple different generic versions of the same product. I think it would be super interesting and very helpful, especially for those of us on a tight budget!
@@womanofacertainage5892 yeah, I've definitely had the most consistent generics from Target I think. On a side note, I actually prefer some generic products to their the name brand equivalent! Like, I've found that most generic versions of the Cetaphil Moisturizing Lotion are based off of the ORIGINAL formula with Macadamia Nut oil, which I prefer to the reformulations that swap it out for Avocado oil. I can't really think of any others off the top of my head right now, but I know there's been others that I've felt the same way about.
I use the Equate version of the CeraVe moisturizing face wash and I love it - I keep the big pump bottles because me and my 3 kids (also eczema people) all use it and it GOES.
Team Cetaphil now - used to love Cerave but it always stings my skin now. Thought it was just the actives I use, but my teen daughter who doesn't use any actives says it burns her skin too. Love the Cetaphil sensitive skin cleanser!
Did CeraVe always sting your skin? I've been using it for quite a while, but these past few days it's been stinging. I've been thinking it's just because I've been swimming in a pool (with chlorine) pretty much every day this past week, but I'm starting to think it's just not working for me anymore. Any help would be appreciated :)
I really love both Cera Ve and cetaphil! My first choice is Cera Ve but don’t hesitate to grab cetaphil for cleanser or moisturizer. I really like their new formula!
I have extremly dry skin. I started using CereVe on the advice of my dermatologist over 10 years ago. Equate is not equal to CereVe. CereVe's texture, residue and moisturizing capabilities is far superior to the Equate product.
I use Equate's version of Olay Retinol Regenerist Retinol 24 Night Moisturizer as my neck retinol and love it (about $18). Also use Equate Lovely Glow, it's version of Jergen's Natural Glow self tanning lotion. Both are great. Target's UpandUp can be good for lotions, but I have been disappointed in Amazon's Solimo generic versions. Thanks Dr Dray for this type of comparison video.
To save $$$ I often use the Equate version of Cereve on my body and prefer the name brand for my face and neck. They do have different levels of moisturizing, but I don't have any special skin condition that requires extra hydration for my body.
I always used Neutrogena eye makeup remover to take off waterproof mascara. It removes it effortlessly. I tried the Equate version and in my opinion they are the same product. $5.00 cheaper! Team Cetaphil 😊
Definitely team Cetaphil, CeraVe burns my skin and it’s a shame as the texture of their products is lovely. Cetaphil has done my skin the world of good
Cetaphil girl here! Cerave burns my face so bad. I’m not sure what’s in it that makes it burn but I’ve tried it many times cause I want to love it but it just keeps burning. The new cetaphil products are my favorite. No burning or stinging and their moisturizing cream is legit so pillowy and soft and buttery I just absolutely love it! Plus the prices of cetaphil are cheaper.
@A C I get that way with so many products because of my rosacea. Cetaphil is a brand that doesn’t bother my rosacea with most of their products. Cerave I put it on and my skin gets hot and my cheeks burn. Cetaphil feels more soothing to me. I hope it works good for you like it does for me!
I’ve never tried cerave but I do love cetaphil and decided to go for it instead simply because it says it’s hypoallergenic and cerave doesn’t say it. Usually creams that don’t say it’s hypoallergenic will cause me some kind of burn/allergy/redness, not sure if it’s because I have dermatitis? So I didn’t even give it a try… plus, cetaphil feels so good on the skin. And I never even realised there was a difference in price!
Team CeraVe as a proud sister of a young derm, she approves everything I use 😉 And if the brand name works for me, I respect the whole formulation and technology, I don't even go for the copying version to save $2-5, I can save it by eating less junk food.
I won’t ever give up my cerave. They helped rebuild my skin barrier from the fact I destroyed it when I was a teenager. Their acne wash is amazing too it helps with my blackheads and acne.
I am a CeraVe person. I recently purchased the Cetaphil moisturizing cream and it is good, but not as good as the CeraVe cream. I will continue to purchase the CeraVe. Thank you Dr. Dray!
I have never tried Cetaphil . I have tried CeraVe & didn't like it because it stayed on top of my skin, sticky....my skin never absorbed it. My sister, tho, uses & loves CeraVe. Works great for her !
I bought the Equate giant vat of moisturizing cream that's supposed to be like CeraVe (the Equate cream has ceramides). I love it! In my case it performs just as well as CeraVe. Applied to my damp skin post shower it keeps my skin feeling supple and moisturized all night. Additionally, it spreads and absorbs beautifully. IOW, it's pleasant to apply. I reapply in the morning before applying SPF just as I did with CeraVe. So in my use case, I get equivalent performance for six dollars less. I'm quite satisfied. Thank you for turning us in to CeraVe, Cetaphil, and now their generics. Excellent content as always, Dr. Dray!
I'm in my 50s and started to have itchy, patchy skin, as well as breaking out around the nose. My health insurance doesn't cover the fees for a specialist or dermatologist, so I did alot of research on my own and came across your videos as well as videos of other dermatologists, and you all raved about Cetaphil and Cerave. I decided to try Cetaphil first because it was on sale at my local Target. However, it just made my skin more itchy and worse than it was. I switched to Cerave foaming facial cleanser, moisturizing cream, and also using their healing ointment. Oh my gosh, the first day the itchiness was gone. And within 4 days my face cleared up, is more plump, dryness and itchiness are completely gone. Cerave is now my new best friend. This product line is definitely a keeper for me.
Definitely Team CeraVe based on your recommendations. These products helped my skin so much! I use the CeraVe Moisturizing Cream as my facial nighttime cream; sometimes I'll use the Moisturizing Lotion. I have bought the Equate version of the Moisturizing Lotion and its a good generic dupe but haven't tried the cream yet. I also use the CeraVe Foaming Facial Cleanser BUT I have the Equate version in my shower. The only difference I spotted is that the Equate version doesn't get foamy as quickly as CeraVe but it does the job. Overall, I prefer CeraVe but if the product was sold out, I'll go for Equate's version.
Team Cerave! But my favorite is Eucerin. I bought the Eucerin Urea Repair creme (shipped from Germany) and the Zeroid Urea Cream (Amazon) and Eucerin was much richer. Zeroid was cheaper and more budget friendly.
Team Cerave here! I love the Cerave moisturizing cream in a tube, which is hard to find. CVS usually has it tucked away though. It seems to have a slightly thicker consistency than the tub, but it may be exactly the same. Thanks for the Equate comparison! I’ve used the Equate version of Cerave PM and liked it very much. Fellow Houstonian here; out in The Woodlands these days. Stay cool, Dr. Dray! Thanks for all you do ❤️
TBH I usually go with Equate whenever it's the option. If anything, there is a texture difference. My equate aveeno excema cream dupe was slightly more runny, but performed just as well. I've been mostly a cerave kinda guy lol. Some of Cetaphils new products are enticing though.
I got enticed by “new” and regret all Cetaphil purchases. Don’t bother it will be a chore to finish. Although I didn’t finish the Cetaphil I gave it to someone else.
Thank you for always keeping tight budgets in mind. After trying all sorts of face-specific creams, I was surprised to find that nothing sits as well on my eczema-prone face as CeraVe Cream.
I was using cetaphil cream for years and kept having eczema flare ups. Finally listened to my dermatologist and tried ceravé! Team ceravé forever. My eczema has never flared up like that again.
Omg, I really love both brands for different purposes, but i really adooore Cera Ve, it's the best. Also I love your videos, very informative and amazing! 💕
I switch between cetaphil and cerave. Cleansers and moisturizers. Every body is differerent. U almost have to keep trying and find out what works for u. Thanks for the video
Thanks Dr Dray I learned a lot from u and lately I don't use anything unless dr dray approves, here I am cetaphil girl I love the their moisturizers, I used to have cerave pm lotion but after I tried cetaphil moisturizer i fell in love and I never looked back.
My family is Cerave. Used Cetaphil before but Cerave has been a game changer. Cerave is the only cream that has helped my husband's extreme dry skin. I use their cleansing products and cream as well. Love them! LOL I have a strong sense of smell so I bet I would notice the difference in Equate and Cerave.
Team CeraVe - thanks to Dr Dray’s advice! I’ve used it daily the past few years since she turned me onto it. Actually, I use 3-4 CeraVe products that I can’t be without. Thanks, Doc.
I’m so happy to hear that there’s a cetaphil lotion alternative. I have been a faithful cetaphil user for years. The new lotion causes my cheeks to become flushed, bumpy and stings when applied.Great video!
Thanks, Dr. Dray! I don't dare try the store brands' versions of brand name products only because my skin is erratic and can react to the most random ingredients, so I always stick to things I've tried before. The Cetaphil line of products work better for me than CeraVe's which I find not moisturizing enough for my skin.
CeraVe I am buying more Equate products to avoid "new" formulas. I am loving the Equate dandruff shampoo, Cetaphil moisturizing lotion dupe and will try the CeraVe moisturizing dupe. CeraVe is my go to, but I will give it a try based on my experience with Equate. Love your vlogs❣️
Team CeraVe! (50-year-old with very fair skin, previous cystic acne issues conquered by Accutane, current hypothyroidism causing extreme dryness) I use most of the CeraVe line and can't praise their products enough. They have truly saved my skin! Fragrance free, clinically supported formulations that work. Thank you for making the comparison with Equate, everyone can use budget friendly dupes and it's good to know if there is a difference in quality.
My skin has always been dry and even more so as I have aged. I prefer Cerave. Derm recommended Cetaphil so I tried it out for two tubs and went back to the Cerave. Love your videos.
a ceramide brand that works well for me with severe dermatits is eucerin, i use the advanced repair lotion, i have about 20 bottles of it on hand because it's the only thing that has worked for me
This is the second comment I’ve seen that said the equate one is better. I have yet to try the cerave one. I thought the equate one was decent my issue was the size for the price. I think it took me less than a week to use the whole thing lol
I am definitely team CeraVe. I used Cetaphil cleanser years ago, and ended up in the Dr's office with a bad rash. She told me the same thing happened to her. I've been afraid of that brand ever since!!!
Cerave in the tub, PLEASE ! Some things are just worth paying extra for! I wonder if they are made in the same factory ?? Thanks Doc for another super cool vid! Have a great day, and see ya tomorrow :-)
Thank you so much for doing this! Equate Beauty as such a good money-saving option. I have been using the equate daily moisturizing lotion in the pump bottle for my nighttime moisturizer for years. It is so soothing and healing and works well for my sensitive oily acne-prone dehydrated face. I also use the equate CeraVe dupe facial cleanser as a second cleanse at night and it is super hydrating but removes the last traces of makeup. I recently discovered the dupe for the Jergens sunless tanning lotion and have been loving it so much. It saves a couple dollars and doubles as a moisturizer for my legs and arms too.
I normally go with Equate products first. Very comparable The equate eczema moisturizing soothing cream has transformed my skin. After 30 years I now have my eczema under control without prescriptions.
That’s amazing for you! I’m struggling with a spot of my upper thighs/butt and my feet only itch at night. Once I get back on the rx train it’s hard to stop tbh so I’d rather suffer I guess 😭
Thank you for the Cetaphil dupe, Equate. I was very upset to find that Cetaphil added niacinamide to their cream. I’ve used it for 20 years and was dreading the search for something similar. I hope Equate leaves theirs the same.
Cereve moisturizer breaks me out but the equate pump knockoff does not. Great video! I been wondering about the knockoff cetaphil. I use knockoff pump cereve and top it with cetaphil when I go to bed.
Since you are a sunscreen proponent. Consumers digest rates the Equate Sport SPF 50 cream highly and it seems very affordable. I would love your opinion on this.
TEAM DR DRAY ALL THE WAY, every day! ! ! Thank you for making the world a more beautiful place, literally and figuratively, one completion and smile at a time😊 (team Cerave too)
Always appreciate the information you give! Wanted to add that they sell the cerave cream at Costco. Last I checked it was $28 for two of the bigger tubs and one comes with the pump.
Loving my Dr. Dray…as usual!! I don’t shop at Walmart but I’m now a CeraVe girl…even though I’m 76!! Very dry skin and itchy! The anti-itch body wash and lotion helps so much! Occasionally I use the anti bump version, too. My bathroom looks like an ad for CeraVe! THANK YOU, Andrea!!!😘
I used up the old Cetaphil Moisturizing Cream and had to get a new tub. I have to say that I hate the new formulation. It leaves my skin shiny and sticky, totally opposite to the matte and silky smooth skin that the old tubs gave me. I'm gonna have to try the Equate Gentile Skin Cream. Thank you for this comparison video. It gives me hope 😊
Cerave for the win. The face wash ,moisturizing cream , healing ointment. The lotion is the only product you can skip . The a.m facial moisturizer as well as the p.m. facial moisturizer. I don’t see the difference but people always say how beautiful my skin is. Strangers in elevators always say my skin is beautiful. It’s weird. I turned my 88 year old aunt ,my 68 year old cousin’s wife ,my 66 year old sister on to this product line . I am 65 years old people say I shouldn’t tell as I don’t look it. My cousin’s wife and sister ask me about Equate and the $5.00 difference. I say “ how bad do you need that $5.00 “. My cousin saw his wife using it ,and now he uses it .
I am SO happy you have done this video! I use Cereve because of the 3 ceramides etc rather than Cetaphil. I love Eucerin Advanced Repair and use it all over including my face because of you-don’t like the other formulations. This is an amazing moisturizing and date I say anti-aging (?) product. I’ve purchased both Equate version to Cerave PM Facial Moisturizing Lotion and the real Cereve version. Like you I don’t notice a difference but I don’t trust that it’s as good long term. The Cereve is so cheap compared to most anti-aging products that I don’t mind paying $4-$5 (I’m not sure that is the price difference-seem more like $3 but maybe it varies depending on the market in one’s area). Thank you for this video !
Team CeraVe and generics here. Green looks much better in my pocket then theirs :) As alway, thank you for the effort you put unto your videos and thanks also for sharing.
Equate is thinner than Cerave cream, I tried Equate after watching your video a month ago. I will go back to Cerave moisturizer when I finish with Equate, i love thick cerave consistency since I have dry skin.
Team CeraVe. Something of a miracle worker for me for body eczema, especially when temperature and humidity are dropping where I live as fall transitions to winter. It’s a staple for me.
Team CeraVe for facial cleanser. I’ve used CeraVe & Cetaphil for the moisture creams, depending which is on sale at my local Costco. Great comparison video Dr. Dray, thank you!

Yup, me too
I bought all the Aquation from Kroger because of you. Great value , the retinol cream, the collagen and the hydro acid.
I'm enjoying the Target version of the CeraVe moisturizing cream. I've been pleased.
CeraVe
I am buying more Equate products to avoid "new" formulas.
You have no idea how long I’ve been waiting for this comparison video (specifically cetaphil). Been using the equate version and love it!
My skin has always been dry and even more so as I have aged. I prefer Cerave. Derm recommended Cetaphil so I tried it out for two tubs and went back to the Cerave. Love your videos.
a ceramide brand that works well for me with severe dermatits is eucerin, i use the advanced repair lotion, i have about 20 bottles of it on hand because it's the only thing that has worked for me
Me too! I love that product and have used it religiously since I watched Dr Dray’s videos mentioning this lotion and cream.
Yes!!! Completely obsessed
Equate's Ceramide Moisturizing Facial Lotion P.M. is superior to CeraVe. It leaves the most amazing "finish." Love, love, love it.
This is the second comment I’ve seen that said the equate one is better. I have yet to try the cerave one. I thought the equate one was decent my issue was the size for the price. I think it took me less than a week to use the whole thing lol
CeraVe for the win! I tried Cetaphil a long time ago and its feel on my skin grossed me out. No other words for it.
I am definitely team CeraVe. I used Cetaphil cleanser years ago, and ended up in the Dr's office with a bad rash. She told me the same thing happened to her. I've been afraid of that brand ever since!!!
Do you know what ingredient/s caused it?
@@mikee8734Sorry, Mike, but I don't. This happened over 20 years ago. I think the formula has changes since then. Maybe it's better now?
@@mikee8734 Sorry, Mike, I don't. This happened over 20 years ago. I believe the formula has changed over the years. It may not be the same now.
I have tried all of them and I like to save money so, I will buy the Equate brand
Cerave cream burned my Eczema patches but Equate didn’t for some reason. Thanks Dr. Dray!
I'm always referring people to 'my dermatologist' when they compliment me on my skin. 46 years old, SPF 60 every day. And I love CeraVe!
What brand name is that comparable to? Aveeno? My eczema is a never ending struggle
Dr Dray rocks!
Team Cereve!!! Also, PSA, Sam's club has a better deal per ounce on Cereve tub with a pump!
Same goes for Costco. I have a membership there and my friend is considering a Sam's Club membership, so we can take advantage of both.
Thank you so much for doing these kinds of videos comparing products at different price points!
I’ve tried cerave and cetaphil and I’m team cerave. I just love the texture and absorption more.
Team Cerave all the way. Love the moisture cream and healing ointment!! Use the entire line.
TEAM DR DRAY ALL THE WAY, every day! ! ! Thank you for making the world a more beautiful place, literally and figuratively, one completion and smile at a time😊 (team Cerave too)
I'm brand CeraVe all the way even since before finding her online
This the doggone most helpful channel ever...thank you!
Always appreciate the information you give! Wanted to add that they sell the cerave cream at Costco. Last I checked it was $28 for two of the bigger tubs and one comes with the pump.
I am guessing Equate may also have less concentration of the key ingredients and therefore be cheaper...
Team Cerave. Excellent comparison!
I love cerave but if you have irritated skin, cetaphil is better. I had a yeast infection on my eyelids and cerave burned, but cetaphil was great
I used up the old Cetaphil Moisturizing Cream and had to get a new tub.
Happy Thursday! We have Equate here in Quebec City but I have never tried it! Cerave the best!
Thank you Dr Dray, this is just what I needed to know when budgeting,💖
I’m down for the store brands for a lot of things however I tried the Equate tub and I could totally tell the difference from my Cerave tub.
I use it to take off my sunscreen and makeup, so I don’t care about the difference. 👍
I *LOVE* the Walgreens dupe for CeraVe moisturizing cream!
Can you do a whole video of the best equate skincare?
Equate (PM FACE Moisturizer) does NOT work. Thanks for another awesome review, Dray! ❤️
Team CeraVe and generics here. Green looks much better in my pocket then theirs :) As alway, thank you for the effort you put unto your videos and thanks also for sharing.
Cetaphil lotion and moisturizing cream work better for my skin than CeraVe.
From Canada & i really appreciate all your videos. I've learned SO MUCH from you & hope to see more of your reviews. Be well !
