By the way, both guys have made it well over 20 years without having a drink (one of them has over 25 years clean and sober)! Yeah, that's why I don't like it. We all cracked up when Yoda just flicked the royal guards against the wall as he entered the room, that should have been enough humor for the scene and the rest of this confrontation should have been a lot more serious like at the end of Return of the Jedi where the Emperor is taunting Luke and then finally zapping him to the point of torture. The Anakin vs Obi-Wan duel is epic and tragic, but Palpatine looks and acts like Jim Carrey in half these shots, like a gray Grinch, falling over himself and giggling like a lunatic.
i remember seeing this in theaters when I was a kid and seeing yoda bust out the lightsaber and kick ass was one of the most badass things I'd seen in a movie
I was so blown away when I first watched this in theatres... Yoda was always portrayed as old and brittle but holy shit just let him get started and its game over.
Yoda was the absolute best lightsaber user in the galaxy. With around 900 years of experience, he not only did his acrobatics using the force to move his old body, but every swing and strike was with perfect, textbook, deadly accuracy.
It always blew me away that the filmmakers were able to find a toddler who could pull off these amazing acrobatics and light saber moves whilst also wearing full Yoda makeup the entire time.

So he stopped Palpatines attack COLD, on a dime, AND fought the high gravity of something so heavy. Get outta here. He literally beats Palpy in every chapter of this fight. Palpatine also dawns a look of FEAR at 3:27. "WHERE IS HE??!" 11.) Yoda stops palpatines lightning with his bare freakin hands. Mace struggled and he was using a lightsaber. Then, after he stops it, Palpatine STARTS to get an advantage. He realizes it. At 3:48, Yoda stops this, and Palpatine starts SCREAMING IN PAIN, with now-limped fingers. He is completely checked out of this duel. Static cling is the only thing keeping him in the lightning fight. 12.) Because he weighs 12 pounds, and that blast launched a 190lb old man, backwards, by about 10 feet, and into a back flip. Yoda fell about 100 feet, at 900 years old, to SMASH onto his back. The FALL took him out. Yoda made one mistake. The emphasis Lucas was CLEARLY trying to make, is that Yoda outperformed Palpatine on this fight, from start to finish, and that one miscalculation can cost the better man the fight. It happens. Anything else is a CNN-level, fanboy twist of what your eyes are seeing. You're lying to yourself. Yoda is the better wielder.

Some Star wars buff is probably going to school me, but IMO yoda is the most powerful Jedi. He absorcs lightning like its nothing, all the other Jedis have to use lightsabers. He's like 10 times smaller than most jedis but can comfortably hold his own. He can also shoot lightning and is mean with the force. Not to mention the guy can't even walk without a stick but can still kick ass!
His race has the most mediclorian count by default, he bound to be very connected to the force, Anakin was artificially bred, that's why he has more. It's kinda way easier for him than anyone.

Yoda in his prime before he had to use the force to give himself mobility would've been a beast. Dude would've been fast as a lightning bolt, he could solo the entire series. Even as a near-900 year old he had Dooku, arguably one of the top five force sensitives of this era, totally on the ropes and fleeing within a minute of starting the battle. Even Anakin could only beat Dooku when he started using the dark side, which shocked Dooku and had him off guard. I'd like to think even Mace and Sidious would have a little difficulty taking him out so easily. People who think Vader could defeat him, let alone suited Vader, are on hopium. Pre-suit Vader's arrogance and post-suit Vader's clunkiness were sure to mean he was finished within 30 seconds of starting a fight with Yoda. He only didn't come back to confront Vader because his spirit was broken by the Jedi's failure to stop the Sith and Order 66, and because he knew it wasn't his battle anymore; it was the next generation's time.
There's no way he could have that type of acrobatic mobility naturally. Even young and healthy. The Force can pull an X-wing out of a swamp. The strongest Wookie can't do anything close to that.

Yoda was the absolute best lightsaber user in the galaxy. With around 900 years of experience, he not only did his acrobatics using the force to move his old body, but every swing and strike was with perfect, textbook, deadly accuracy.
It always blew me away that the filmmakers were able to find a toddler who could pull off these amazing acrobatics and light saber moves whilst also wearing full Yoda makeup the entire time.
Come on? You actually think it was a toddler like for real? Just use your head and think about this for more than 10 seconds. There's no way an actual toddler could do all those amazing acrobatics and light saber moves and it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure it out. It was a dwarf.

For anyone who says "Palpatine is more powerful", let's prove why you're wrong:
1.) "MASTER Yoda" (a hat tip to Yoda's title. He didn't HAVE TO respect him. He even said it with an "oh fk" tone)
2.) He gave Yoda what ends most. Yoda got up. Palpatine knew he would. Notice he wasn't surprised.
3.) Palpatines face when launched. Something he obviously never experienced before.
4.) Palpys face when he GETS UP. Look at the "oh God what have I gotten myself into?" All over his face. 1:25
5.) Tries to run. Audible GASP at 1:32. Stops in disbelief.
6.) "You will not stop me (talking big whileBACKING UP). Darth Vader will become more powerful than either of us." < those are the words of a man fearing he might have to PASS DOWN his knowledge. A well-scripted "Freudian slip". "I SAY you won't stop me, but I FEAR you might and even if you do, I have passed the torch."
7.) Palpys face at 2:31. Cmon man. Don't bs yourself. The dude is STRUGGLING. Yoda isn't even breathing heavy. DEAD LOCK eye contact. Yoda's eyes are predatory.
8.) 2:38 HE'S SCREAMING WITH FRUSTRATION.
9.) Realizing he's losing, he RUNS AWAY to the high ground. Yoda makes that not really matter. Dude starts launching senate seats at Yoda, to keep him away at a distance. He has accepted he cannot engage Yoda with sabers.
10.) Yoda STOPS his final launch, and that is PLUS gravity. So he stopped Palpatines attack COLD, on a dime, AND fought the high gravity of something so heavy. Get outta here. He literally beats Palpy in every chapter of this fight. Palpatine also dawns a look of FEAR at 3:27. "WHERE IS HE??!"
11.) Yoda stops palpatines lightning with his bare freakin hands. Mace struggled and he was using a lightsaber. Then, after he stops it, Palpatine STARTS to get an advantage. He realizes it. At 3:48, Yoda stops this, and Palpatine starts SCREAMING IN PAIN, with now-limped fingers. He is completely checked out of this duel. Static cling is the only thing keeping him in the lightning fight.
12.) Because he weighs 12 pounds, and that blast launched a 190lb old man, backwards, by about 10 feet, and into a back flip. Yoda fell about 100 feet, at 900 years old, to SMASH onto his back. The FALL took him out. Yoda made one mistake. The emphasis Lucas was CLEARLY trying to make, is that Yoda outperformed Palpatine on this fight, from start to finish, and that one miscalculation can cost the better man the fight. It happens.
Anything else is a CNN-level, fanboy twist of what your eyes are seeing. You're lying to yourself. Yoda is the better wielder.
No you are absolutely correct, I had always thought i was suffering from debilitating schizophrenia because ever since this movie I have never heard anyone talk about how yoda won this fight. I mean its so obvious. At 3:45 you can clearly see Palpy's face say "OMG WTH DUDE PLEASE STOP". Clearly he had never wielded against a master before especially not a master of Yoda's Caliber. Then like you said, when Yoda fell, the only thing I could think of was how he had gotten so close but he had one SMALL miscalculation. Its kinda ironic actually now thinking about how Yoda is SMALL and he makes a SMALL mistake against Palpatine. Another example of Lucas' brilliant storytelling. Anyways, I can wait for episode 48 to come out I heard Cardi B is in this one and she will be on the DARK SIDE!!!!

The Star Wars films were so big that everyone forgets how star studded the cast was. Who would’ve thought after a new hope that it would eventually become so big that you would have Christopher lee and Joe Pesci do a fight scene with laser swords!? Some Star wars buff is probably going to school me, but IMO yoda is the most powerful Jedi. He absorcs lightning like its nothing, all the other Jedis have to use lightsabers. He's like 10 times smaller than most jedis but can comfortably hold his own. He can also shoot lightning and is mean with the force. Not to mention the guy can't even walk without a stick but can still kick ass!

Yoda is actually more powerful than Sidious, I read that George Lucas actually wrote it that Yoda won the fight, but when he read it to his son he realised that "oh yes, Yoda can't win".

Yoda in his prime before he had to use the force to give himself mobility would've been a beast. Dude would've been fast as a lightning bolt, he could solo the entire series. Even as a near-900 year old he had Dooku, arguably one of the top five force sensitives of this era, totally on the ropes and fleeing within a minute of starting the battle. Even Anakin could only beat Dooku when he started using the dark side, which shocked Dooku and had him off guard. I'd like to think even Mace and Sidious would have a little difficulty taking him out so easily. People who think Vader could defeat him, let alone suited Vader, are on hopium. Pre-suit Vader's arrogance and post-suit Vader's clunkiness were sure to mean he was finished within 30 seconds of starting a fight with Yoda. He only didn't come back to confront Vader because his spirit was broken by the Jedi's failure to stop the Sith and Order 66, and because he knew it wasn't his battle anymore; it was the next generation's time.
There's no way he could have that type of acrobatic mobility naturally. Even young and healthy.
The Force can pull an X-wing out of a swamp. The strongest Wookie can't do anything close to that.
