@@jamesgand828 this is actually a better interior than any new Mercedes. Especially with their creeky piano black hard plastics and lacking infotainment (Mercedes). You can't base your opinion on status.
Its really a good time to love sedans , the public shift to stupid SUVs made car manufacturers put everything they have ( design , features , power ) into the sedan segment to make it more appealing .. good job mazda definitely the best looking car in its segment ..
Previous-gen hatch was gorgeous in every single color, which is a rarity. This new gen hatch is stunning in person, but oddly not so much in pics/video. Anyone who doesn't like the look owes it to themselves to visit a dealer lot and check it out themselves. :)
I'm really digging the new interior, the build quality looks as good as the Golf GTI. The lack of ventilated/cooled seats is a let down and I would pay extra for it. The back of the sedan reminds of the old TSX which I alway liked and the hatch reminds of the beautiful Alfa Giulia hatchback.
After I saw the updated Mazda3 at Geneva, I've been scouring TH-cam for new reviews. Took a while for people to get on it but glad to see it's definitely not going under the radar! I'm only waiting on Straight Pipes now that Forrest and Sofyan reviewed it :)
Kershaw Silverado, look for the (now) last gen hatch with heated seats, a moonroof, if not... I know they had a couple with a heated wheel, but I'm almost certain it's like finding a needle in a haystack used...
Hey Mazda, are you listening? Okay now, since you've finally fixed the infotainment issues, all you need to make this a best in category is to add the turbo. The car is beautiful and well made so what exactly is stopping you?
If they add a turbo they will likely need to beef up the internals if they are running 16 lbs of boost. Turbo plus internals probably means 3k more in price. Also they would need to beef up the transmission before you know it you're spending 32k on a car.
Turbo means less reliable, also over time far more fuel consumption. I'll stick with NA. Only time you would need a turbo would be if you live in higher elevations.
I love my 2018 Mazda3 hatch. With the seats down, I can fit a 6’ surfboard, and it feels like a luxury car compared to my previous Honda Fit. That being said, I wish Mazda sold the 6 wagon here in the US. The extra length and refinement would be nice, plus there’s no real competition in the mid size class.
I almost never use the touch screen functionality in my 2017 Mazda 3, I wouldn't miss the lack of it. Give me ventilated seats and Mazdaspeed and I'm sold.
Excellent review Sofyan, as ever. You and Alex from AlexonAutos have become my ‘go to’ reviewers whenever I want a clear and concise car review, even if I am on the other side of the Pacific in Oz. It still interests me to see how differently the same manufacturer equips essentially the same car for different markets. In Australia, the Mazda3 seems to be spec’d somewhat higher, model for model, than the USA. For example, we get rear HVC vents on all but the base model (so it’s obviously possible) although we don’t get AWD, which considering our lack of snow, is not really an issue. And we still get the option of the 2.0 litre engine on lower spec models (3 of the 6 spec levels). We also get a unique for Australia suspension set up designed for our generally poorer road surfaces, at least in rural areas. It gives Oz Mazda’s a handling edge over Europe and North America, helped by only fitting summer tyres locally. Once again, a great review. Thank you.
From what I've read Mazda loves Australia. They provide better equipped models and more engine choices (including diesels) than in other markets and it shows in their strong sales figures down under.
Great review! Mazda add heated steering wheel, ventilated seats, vents in the rear along with heated seats. Other than that BEAUTIFUL car keep up the great work and ill keep buying your cars. I'm on my 3rd Mazda. Gave up Toyota, Lexus, to stick with you guys. We get A LOT for our $$$. I couldn't talk myself into spending $30k plus higher tag in a Audi so i decided to get a 2018 Mazda6 signature instead, and I'm so happy i did. Because i love your products and you listen to your customers. Ill take the mazda3 hatch in gray, its very different and sexy, just add those extra bells and whistles 😉👍.
Very good reviews btw. I owned several Mazda, including 2012 Speed, I traded in my 2017 CX3 GT with Tech package for a new 2019 Mazda3 AWD sedan. Just love the ZOOM ZOOM!
So Strange about all the feature you said that are missing, they are available here in Canada. For example, a heated steering wheel, 360° camera with turning lines and with much better graphics.
I have a 2015 Mazda sedan that I bought new and has been my daily driver since 2015. I travel almost 80 miles round trip daily to work and back and I have 80k on the odometer. I live in upstate NY and the snow here can get pretty gnarly so I have to equip it with studded snows so I don't get killed on my commute. The only complaint I have after 4 years is when the snow gets deep I am pretty much a snowplow with the clearance. I love the fact that they use a real automatic transmission instead of a CVT. I will never buy a CVT. Mazda truly makes a fun car to drive and I probably will keep this thing till it falls apart and get another 3 when its dead in the dirt. I love my Mazda 3.
Would Mazda's existing 2.5T power plant worked into this little car do the job for that? Give it even more serious performance numbers to wipe smirks off the faces of even Lexus IS & German luxury owners on top of the (near) luxury thing Mazda's been shooting for all decade..?
Dan bish I would totally consider a turbo 3. I have the current gen 6 GT and love it though my biggest concern is lack of power. I suspect they will offer a GT and/or Signature trim in the next year or two on the 3 with the turbo 2.5 as an option, next to the X engine if this model follows a similar pattern with 3’s and 6’s of the most recent generations.
Micheal Stillabower true, but then again Ford has decided to stop making ALL of its cars except the mustang. Sadly it’s an SUV world we live in. I think I’d get a GTI or GLI over this, although the AWD is very compelling at this price point. A Golf R if you can even find one is selling at MSRP for 40K +. If they gave this sedan a bigger engine, I think they’d steal a lot of Audi A3 and MBZ A class buyers. The interior is very premium and reminds me of the A3.
If they add front seat ventilation, 360 degree camera, rear seat air vents, and heated steering wheel, and touch screen infotainment. And 250 hp-300hp turbo, it would be 👌🏼
I’m older, I want a manual trans, Mazda 3 Speed! Actually I want Mazda 6 Speed. They could make a competitor to the Type R, I’m SO glad you mentioned that!
Toguro 100% i got a 2007 Speed6 lol. Seriously looking at these as a new daily though, keep the Speed6 as a project/weekend car since I’ve kept the miles off of it, only 80k miles
Test drove the new 2019 hatchback today. I currently have a 2014 GT 2.5L Mazda 3 sedan with the automatic. I was surprised the automatic on my tester was shifting sloppily. My 2014 has a much better transmission. Not sure if they changed it since then but its definitely not as nice as the previous generation. I am extremely disappointed the heated steering wheel isn't available in the USA anymore. I was really looking forward to finally having that on my new car and now need to decide if I want to get another Mazda 3 since that's not an option. I am also disappointed the navigation and auto dimming mirror isn't included in the top-end trims like my current version. They killed it on the interior quality and the NVH is improved over the previous generation. I also didn't notice any difference in the way the car handles with the torsion beam. The hatchback does have some serious blindspots and you need to rely more on the safety systems. Mazda, bring more of the premium features you have available in the Canadian market to the USA. I want a heated steering wheel, auto-dimming and folding side mirrors, auto dimming rearview mirror, backup camera with trajectory, backup parking sensors, and a 360 camera. Oh, and I also want the Skyactiv X engine too. Then you can justify the $30K price tag.
In Canada the heated steering wheel is available. Button is in that blank spot next to the driver's heated seat. Also the manual is available in the base model as well as the 2.0L base engine. The mid-trim and beyond gets the 2.5L with manual or automatic. No manual with AWD same as everyone else.
Canadians winters that make heated steering wheels especially appealing. :) And their take rate of AWD vehicles is much higher than in the US. While Golf R's have been scarce in the US, they're readily available in Canada.
Not that I personally drive a automatic myself but the last thing this beautiful car needs is more gears. More gears means more hunting for the right gear. Excellent review though as always!
@@SS-wm1wy more power would solve that problem not more gears 200ish hp would be great in this car, considering Mazda added more weight. I don't see Mazda ever adding a CVT to their cars at least in my life time.
Mazda is just killing it these days. Interesting to see all the new interior bits that will be making it's way over to the next gen CX-9 and the rest of their line up.
The sedan is definitely the better looking one IMHO... You nailed the hatch look with the jelly bean comparison... or to go extreme, a squished down AMC Pacer...
360 camera, pano sunroof, heated steering wheel, ventilated seats, etc, etc etc.... keep adding all that stuff - keep adding $$$. The car has what it needs for the class its in.
The SkyActiv-X 2.0 engine won't be much faster than the 2.5, if at all. It is designed to improve economy and emissions while providing comparable power, hence it is being released first in the European market where fuel is expensive and emissions regs are getting quite tough. You can only hope that Mazda will stick the 2.5T in, which I personally think is well inline with a 'premium' car approach (most premium brands offer high powered engine options, let alone 'sport' variants). In general the European market, and perhaps Japan, gets the Mazda3 in a more premium and high-tech configuration than the US (e.g. 360 parking camera with trajectory, adaptive headlights), but the US gets more powerful engines, due to market demand.
Reviewers mention wanting more power but isn't 186hp the best in the class? It seems like it is getting dinged for its handling and ride being too capaple.
I think what you have is a number of people who like form and the interior quality who would be willing to buy a mazda but who have higher performance demands than what Mazda is willing to provide. i.e. these are the guys who bought the Mazdaspeed 3 in the past. My wife drives a Mazda and I would buy one for me in a heartbeat if it had 30-40hp more. Such buyers are not cross-shopping the 3 with the corrola/civic/elantra etc. They are people who own GTI's or Focus STIs, or other sporty cars who could be lured with more power. Mazda finally wisened up and put the turbo-4 in the underpowered cx-5 and Mazda 6.
So I am putting this on my options list for when I am going to replace my Chevy Cruze. I like the looks of the sedan. It’s an evolution of the previous generation and looks better. I just saw this one in the same exact color on the street and it is really striking! As for the hatchback, I don’t like it’s looks. It looks like an egg to me. Overall I LOVE the interior and how they kept the interior materials consistent unlike the competition. (Soft touch materials in the front and back instead of neglecting the back seat with hard touch everything. Only other gripes is smallish trunk, no turbo option, and still cramped quarters. Other than that, this shot up to the top as one of my choices because it’s so great
Cannot believe that the IRS is gone. Mazda mechanically cheapened the 3 greatly to give it a luxury interior. No manual transmission is another huge mistake. And for the price, I'd personally spend a little bit more money for the larger Mazda 6.
Initially I thought the same, but there is a video out there that explains in great detail, how Mazda re-engineered the torsion beam as we know it, to provide the level of comfort and response that we all love about Mazdas. They said It also created a much quieter cabin in the new model vs using the IRS.
Not sure when this was shot but drove up to Virginia City NV from south Reno today (3/24/19) and have to say they banked the corners like they know you'll speed... really the perfect way to feel the steering, brakes and transmission mapping. Just be wary of the wild horses!! Our '17 Optima SXL felt suburb!!
It's nice that Mazda offers integrated Navigation as a Dealer installed option. Wish more automakers would do the same so it would be available on more trims.
Mazda, please make sports cars that are premium, not premium cars that are sporty. The people who look at your cars dont want a civic or a Corolla, they want a 3 but we want to make the risk of investing in your brand, for something that gives me way more performance than the stalwart brands, yall are about average, change that and I bet people will buy.
Nello Bottari that’s Exactly what they are doing: Mazda 6, CX9, and CX5 !! Each have Turbo option, and AWD. This 3 has AWD option only, so far. However, the 3 and the Miata are the only ones left that don’t have Turbo- so I agree w you : Making a Sport-tubed premium 3 would be a logical next step! Turbo in the 3? Or Miata? It’s probably not coming until they debut the SkyActiv X (late this year or summer next year- my guess is the latter option- sigh)

I'm hoping they offer a fastback version of the 6. If they do, I'd take the 6 over a cx5
The next mazda6 will have AWD
I'mJustFarhan WOOF !! I’m also excited about the 6 - it’s going to SLAY and put “luxury” brands, as well as mainstream brand - On Notice!
I got my fingers and toes crossed. I got high hopes if this 3 is any indication. The 6 is my Jam!
Its really a good time to love sedans , the public shift to stupid SUVs made car manufacturers put everything they have ( design , features , power ) into the sedan segment to make it more appealing .. good job mazda definitely the best looking car in its segment ..
Love that they moved the rear plate to the bumper... WHERE IT BELONGS ON EVERY CAR!
What a beautiful car... I knew it was a good idea to wait for this one. I thought the last gen was pretty but this one is the next level
Previous-gen hatch was gorgeous in every single color, which is a rarity. This new gen hatch is stunning in person, but oddly not so much in pics/video. Anyone who doesn't like the look owes it to themselves to visit a dealer lot and check it out themselves. :)
You own this car? I may be buying one tomorrow myself.
Mazda is really going for a luxury look, love that💪🏻👌🏻
Between you and your camera man. You guys do a dam good job on these reviews. Keep up the good work.
17 Mazda 6 GT owner here and I would trade it for the new 3 with awd
I own one as well but don't know if I'd make that statement just yet, however I thought that color combo on the hatch was stunning!!
Love that hatchback. It just emulates class and charm.
Mazda has set the standard for interior quality in the mainstream segment. Great on Mazda!
Buying luxury cars makes less and less sense, these compact cars now have all the tech that you will ever need
It is important to buy the high dollar luxury cars, that way you can prove to your neighbors that you can be in more debt than them... :)
"Clint doesn't like the thickness from the back"
I love that C-Pillar!
Your quality of production has shot up for the introductory camera shots! Keep up the good work.
lol the tight shots on the red car? those are stock shots. The drone stuff definitely isn't his either
I've been waiting for your review of the new Mazda3.
Well you sure are a happy camper aren't ya?
After I saw the updated Mazda3 at Geneva, I've been scouring TH-cam for new reviews. Took a while for people to get on it but glad to see it's definitely not going under the radar!
I'm only waiting on Straight Pipes now that Forrest and Sofyan reviewed it :)
@@iamthedutchbro You would be too if you were driving the beautiful new Mazda3 AWD & handsome "Mr Clint" beside you!!
Oh man why am i broke??? I love this thing, its not some cookie cutter grotesque design like alot of the competition.
Oh man why won't my 2003 Protege5 die so I can buy this thing?? :D ;)
@@haydn-db8z careful what you wish for...
Kershaw Silverado, look for the (now) last gen hatch with heated seats, a moonroof, if not... I know they had a couple with a heated wheel, but I'm almost certain it's like finding a needle in a haystack used...
Putang ina mo.
Hey Mazda, are you listening? Okay now, since you've finally fixed the infotainment issues, all you need to make this a best in category is to add the turbo.
The car is beautiful and well made so what exactly is stopping you?
People like you who ask for all this shit but won’t buy it.
skyactiv x is much more creative than turbo, better to suggest this go to the hood rather than turbo
Turbos are for pussies
If they add a turbo they will likely need to beef up the internals if they are running 16 lbs of boost. Turbo plus internals probably means 3k more in price. Also they would need to beef up the transmission before you know it you're spending 32k on a car.
Turbo means less reliable, also over time far more fuel consumption. I'll stick with NA. Only time you would need a turbo would be if you live in higher elevations.
Beautiful car. I love the design. It still looks great. Inside and out Mazda engineers know how to make a car look stylish.
Looks like a good car. The reviews are good by the way. Best of luck to the channel
Looks sleek, I like the body lines
I love my 2018 Mazda3 hatch. With the seats down, I can fit a 6’ surfboard, and it feels like a luxury car compared to my previous Honda Fit. That being said, I wish Mazda sold the 6 wagon here in the US. The extra length and refinement would be nice, plus there’s no real competition in the mid size class.
That hatch is sick WTG Mazda you more then knocked it out of the park. Growing up my folks had a 626 that was loaded and it did us VERY VERY WELL.
I am doing research on this vehicle and your video is very informative! Thank you! It truly is a beautiful and sophisticated vehicle!
Got my 2019 in crystal blue yesterday! Love it already!
Touch screens in cars are not practical. Switches work and don't need improvement. If it's not broke, don't fix it.
The Grey color with red interior wooow
Very good reviews btw. I owned several Mazda, including 2012 Speed, I traded in my 2017 CX3 GT with Tech package for a new 2019 Mazda3 AWD sedan. Just love the ZOOM ZOOM!
This is coming from a Lexus driver that's a damn good-looking motor
For some reason I'm loving the sedan more than the hatch. Usually it's the other way around. Great review as always🚘
So Strange about all the feature you said that are missing, they are available here in Canada. For example, a heated steering wheel, 360° camera with turning lines and with much better graphics.
@@ForestFrog13 it's not.... Wth I swear I saw it when I test drove it 😟
I have a 2015 Mazda sedan that I bought new and has been my daily driver since 2015.
Looks very good. Mazda should really capitalize on a speed 3 especially with Ford focus out of the business this could be really good as a hot hatch
Awd speed3 would be an amazing car
@@benvernick then why are they still making cars like this
If they add front seat ventilation, 360 degree camera, rear seat air vents, and heated steering wheel, and touch screen infotainment. And 250 hp-300hp turbo, it would be 👌🏼
I just wished the sedan had the red interior
I’m older, I want a manual trans, Mazda 3 Speed! Actually I want Mazda 6 Speed.
They could make a competitor to the Type R, I’m SO glad you mentioned that!
Toguro 100% i got a 2007 Speed6 lol. Seriously looking at these as a new daily though, keep the Speed6 as a project/weekend car since I’ve kept the miles off of it, only 80k miles
Simply best in class !!! I wish they would put the turbo motor. I really like it
That red and black interior is giving me all kinds of life!! I must have!
More like 36k or more.
38000 in canada ...??????
Very right. 6 gears are more than enough. We don't want it to shift like a CVT with numerous gear ratios.
Wow, that interior! If you were to cover up the Mazda badge, I would have guessed it was a Porsche!
I would like to know what you're smoking
The car inspires forward-thinking, like you want to get going tomorrow - you start pressing accelerator today.
On startup does there really need to be that many beeps? That would get very old
Put on your seatbelt and shut the door before you press start. No beeping....
360 camera, pano sunroof, heated steering wheel, ventilated seats, etc, etc etc.... keep adding all that stuff - keep adding $$$. The car has what it needs for the class its in.
First time the sedan looks better and more desirable to me.
That gray hatch with the blacked out grill looks awesome.
I really loved this Mazda! It has very good details and improvements. Thanks Mazda 😊
Please Mazda put the 2.5T in the 3. Please!
Ken L prefer skyactiv X!
After 6 turbo engines, I miss na.
Lake tahoe!! I got married there, and great review! Always look for new videos coming from redline, the best reviewer on youtube
If it had a panoramic sunroof it would be perfect
Alejandro San Miguel it’s not needed as it adds 200 lbs and when it needs to be replaced it is stupid in price.
That’s not bad performance for that kind of elevation! I’m impressed.
@@stevenhaas9622 NA 2017 Mazda is not underpowered. Go test drive then get back to me. Where are u getting ur info from
I miss my 2006 3 hatch. Loved the body and styling and it was a joy to drive.
I'm hoping you get the chance to review the manual hatch
TheWiggles We will get one to test very soon! Stay tuned!
Bless you sir for 60 fps. 24/30 are outdated and the industry needs to march forward.
If they offer that 2.5 Turbo with a Manual hatch? Take my money!
Now if they mated that with their AWD system, then I WILL make them take my money.
Wont happen.
Mazda did a absolute great job with this re design i can only imagine how the new 6 is going to look and i can’t wait 😍😍
The hatch looks strange from certain angles, probably because of that huge C pillar. Because of that, I probably would prefer the sedan
Agreed. That design looks horrible. But aside from that it's a very nice car
This interior is so awesome and driver focused. What BMW and Infiniti should do instead of focusing on nonsense gimmick technology
Nello Bottari that’s Exactly what they are doing:
Mazda 6, CX9, and CX5 !!
@@nextleveljourney6612 cx 5 has turbo too
