  • Howl's Moving Castle. It's big (21" tall). It's heavy-ish (4.2 lbs). It's made out of junk (mostly). Help yourself to a full breakfast and strap yourself in to the merry-go-round of life for almost a full hour. In total, this project took roughly 300-400 hours spread over 60 days to complete.

    Genius.
This is a brilliant build. As a sculptor who hasn't pressed their skills since the early 2000's and is probably way out of the loop, this is so impressive and inspirational. This is how I built things back in the day. Start with scraps and clean as you go. Bottles, boxes, found objects, tin foil, and hot glue. I once created a whole series of human-esque sculpts out of natural found items... sticks, pine cones, rocks, leaves, grass, moss, and of course my good friend, hot glue lol... they were of course unpainted so not as pretty...
As an artist who is nowhere close to your level of painting skill, wow, fucking amazing...
As an avid reader/writer though; one who has never seen the movie... I hate to be that person, but I'm being honest...READ IT!!!
Trust me, the story is amazing. Diana Wynne Jones tells a fantastic tale and really weaves the details into her fiction.
Again, I've never seen the movie, only clips, but there is a whole dynamic between Sophie and her curse of old age, and Calcifer and the house, and her own unique abilities which sets off the story that is all just so intriguing that it's wroth the read and it's honestly not too very long.
Anyway, as a fan of the studio (some of my favs, Spirited Away/Ponyo/Princess Mononoke/ kiki's/etc) Studio Ghibli does an INCREDIBLE job of visually rendering the story, but truly, nothing beats your imagination and the story allows you to wonder up those ideas Jones creates. As a visual artist you will really enjoy the book because you'll have your own artistically warped interpretation of the imagery she presents...
Ok, done with my middle-aged ramble...but my encouragement is to read it! lol

Much like a can of Prangles, this project just went on and on with fun at a lengthy yet appropriate amount of msg and potato starch.
I mean there's just too much to say. I'm trying to imagine the depths and lengths of time and brain it all took. How many takes did it take to blow out a candle with the push of a fire hydrant? The amount of buildings. The amount of rhinestones. The amount of saxaphone melts. The amount of child height scavenger goblin shuffles. The grillaput stop motion. The ramshackling. The... remembering where all that stuff goes and the keeping one angle of your studio clean and the supportive partner. The audio edits. The visual edits. I'm so glad this is getting the recognition of work it deserves. This is the GOOD food people. Proud of you Studson, well done.
