    Everybody has their strengths and weakness. It's great that Alex didn't rip him a new Via hole over this. He knows Linus's strength isn't in micro soldering, but in technical side of things and reviews. He gave constructive criticism to show him the correct way. That is a true master of his arts.
    That's why I try to learn as much as I can. So one day, I'll be 1/64th as good as Alex. He's a Top Tier person.

    Alex you gave me the courage to replace the charging port/ribbon on my 5th gen itouch, first time i ever use a hot air station. I had the parts for the repair for over 6 month. After binge watching about 6 month of your videos for several days I finally worked up the courage to do it. It was better than factory when I was finished. Thank you Alex!

    U know Alex, lots of time when i tackle a board, im jealous how fast, and efficient you are. i think back to the video when you said, maybe its your fault that people think its easy to attempt the repair themselves. i totally agree with you, it is your fault. 🙂 another thing i do is after any board, i literally clean the board spotless because i swear i hear your voice in my head saying “i see sign of flux” IM SURE IM NOT THE ONLY ONE.

    Alex. I watch all your videos and this gave me the confidence in soldering for myself. Practise makes all the difference and after a few ettempts on broken boards i am now able to use a microscope on all my soldering. I still make small errors, but that is what comes with practise.Thank you for everything you do in your videos and i look forward to the next one. Take Care

    I remember how i discovered Northridgefix, from another fan of you, on another channel, with a guy fixing electronics devices. I was curious, i watched one or two videos of you, and i saw a very serious guy with a "poker face" with a strange voice, but something kept me looking more videos. Now i love everything that he does, his jokes, his way of thinking, his motivational videos, everything!!! I also mentioned you a lot on Twitter after they asked me how come I could fix laptops and other small electronics so well. Because of your videos, I can handle bga much better now. Recently successfully repaired a Dell XPS 13 9350 whose ram memory I replaced. I’d like to know how you knew which RAM was defective. I deal with motherboards repair and I still want to learn how to be better in trouble shooting. It’s actually a fun game because I enjoy repairing the boards so much. It’s like hide and seek, so what are your tricks?

    • @Professorke
      @Professorke 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@kossieseii85 I replaced all 4 and don't know which chip was broken. It was not possible to probe the defective chip because of the compact design of this notebook, so replaced all 4. Was a little more work, but it went smoothly. In my opinion, the notebook runs faster than before with these new ram chips. I had been having unexpected blue screens for a while and one morning it stopped booting and got the error code 2x orange and 4x white. After replacing the 4 rams the notebook runs very smoothly again.

    To be fair the connector could not be soldered by hand because it had 2 rows of pins, one on the outside and one on the inside. The only solution was probably to try heating the pcb up from the bottom (with the risk of the bottom components to fall down, but they can always be resoldered by hand).

  • @LeelooMinai

    But the thing is, if you never try, you'll never know if you can do it. I've never pulled a glass back off a sealed smartphone before but I managed to do it without cracking or chipping it, managed to replace the battery without breaking anything so I'm quite proud of that. However, the battery is not the problem so I'm still investigating the issue, possibly a dodgy charging port.

    Hi Alex,
    I agree with you 100%, you need a microscope!!! My son Chase talked me into buying the one that you use and I've been repairing communication electronics for 41 years and I wish I would have had one the entire time I love my microscope and wouldn't trade it for anything! We all want to learn things there's nothing wrong with that, but I tell all my customers and I also tell Chase to tell his customers... "It's better to pay a tech than to make it a wreck!!!" Keep up the amazing work!

    The only thing I dislike about this repair content on LTT channel is that they pretty much always make a huge unsuccessful mess.
    It creates a lot of untrue expectations for what is reasonably fixable and what is not among layman viewers. For example one time they tried to solder back couple of ripped pins off an AMD CPU. Guess how it went. But on your channel you demonstrate how to solder a dozen of these back to back effortlessly. Same thing with HDMI connectors. And like, it's not anything like black magic. All it takes is someone qualified.

    You do it yourself when you know what you're doing most DIY's don't realize by the time you buy all the stuff for the job you could have paid someone who knows how to do it. Reminds me of the story about guy changing his own oil with his friend by the time he went got all the stuff to do it , lift car drain oil change filter and refill have a drink with friend and chitchat, lower car clean up and still had to get rid of oil and filter, his wife left had her oil changed got coffee went shopping and was home in house before he finishes his all day project.

I've been soldering for 5 years and I remember the one time a few weeks ago I was working on something that luckily the flex connector was easy to put a new one on because it was a socketed flex. Still feel bad about burning it though on my own bored. Like always love the videos

    Hello NorthridgeFix, could the work you do with micro soldering be done with a stereo microscope but using only a 10x lens? I'm thinking about the AmScope SE400Z. Thx
