    Because you're a smart man! I purchased the 2015. After dealing with JEEP wrangler and GC for years. I got fed up with making excuses as to why they kept breaking down and giving me issues. They're poorly made. Unless you've owned Jeep and you purchase a Toyota 4runner, you won't appreciate the quality! the attention to detail is amazing.

    • @FloridaTRD
      @FloridaTRD  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      JD Power surveyed car manufactures for their 2016MY run. Toyota sits in 4th place at 113 defects per 100 vehicles. Jeep in 28th place with 181 defects per 100 vehicles. Total of 31 manufactures averaging 152 defects per 100. Also speaking from 14 years in the car biz. Anything from chrysler group is total shit. The wrangler is the only thing with a good residual value.
      So your odds are actually pretty good to have issues with your new car. Every purchase is a gamble. Some vehicles live in the service department. Others only there for a few minor things. Others never see it for anything other than maintenance.

      Florida TRD I love the way you think. Your a gentleman and a scholar. You're quite right though. But lets be fair and honest, 4runner Limited and TRD have quality built parts with a lot of attention to detail given that American auto manufacturers still lack. To be Fair. my parents own a Durango 2004 model hemi engine and it's never been serviced for anything major. It's got 100k miles and 2013 300c Hemi and I know for a fact it's because it's been maintained since day 1 at the dealers. Never seen anything but the dealers. Driven with sense and not abused. that makes a big difference.

    • @FloridaTRD
      @FloridaTRD  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes a big part of any vehicles reliability and durability are how its maintained. Customers never understood why their cars are pouring oil out of every seal at 100k." Sir blow by, which is nearly unavoidable, is acidic. That increases the acidity of the oil. Now clean fresh oil has neutralizers in it for that purpose. But sir you don't stay on top of your oil changes so your oil is insanely acidic and it eats away at all the rubber and silicone seals. So that will be 3k to fix. WhAt!!! Where is the manager??? Sir I am the manager. "
      Now they flip out and repeat all this to me LOL. Sigh.

    • @aky19832001
      @aky19832001 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Florida TRD Exactly. I have a rule. I don't let oil sit in a car for periods of time or change color from that beautiful golden clear, OCD maybe. My vehicles are never touch by anyone but the dealership. I'll never stop to get oil changes anywhere but at toyota or Dodge/Crysler. I'm willing to pay the extra, But i'll tell you what, i've never had to go back for a job they did and i've never had them to try to pull a fast one. I know my cars inside out. I recall the dealers replacing the entire bottom pan, seals and all free of charge cause the screw wasn't going on correct. The called me to the car and told me this is whats going on, were replacing the pan and your not liable for anything. They even gave me a rental for the day.

    Nice truck, really wondering why you thought the 4Runner was your only option though. I have a 2013 Taco, and 2010 Jeep JKU. I actually have been leaning toward selling both for a 4Runner to kind of get the best of both worlds, but I don't actually know what a 4Runner would bring to the table that a Jeep JKUR wouldn't. I've got to believe with the newer Jeep engine and lockers from the factory a JKUR would just be king.

    • @FloridaTRD
      @FloridaTRD  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Because the 4Runner is one of the last in its class. No one makes a body on frame suv in this class. They are all unibody hunks of crap. I traded my Tacoma for this truck. Tacomas are great but lack the enclosed space i need for my gear. Also lacking on my Tacoma were many things i felt it needed in a 2014MY. Being a previous jeep owner they are great but have zero comforts. Mine was a 12 and the Pentastar was a great improvement over the 3.8 thats in your Jeep. But its still a pile of crap. Thats what you're paying for Toyota quality and reliability. Jeeps are just super low quality well all chrysler products are. Not being biased either. Speaking from 14 years in the car business. Plus if you build a JKUR get things like a hard top and trailer hitch and other small bs things. It builds out to 44k IIRC. So why not go with something built better and more comfortable??

    • @snowmanwithahat

I myself am not up to changing out the suspension totally. Just swapped the links and front control arms with Icons, skids, sliders/steps, gobi and a few odds and ends. Ie lights, console safe, etc.. Enjoy it looks like you are taking care of it.

    Nice truck. I have an 04 4Runner Sport with a 4.7-liter V-8 (in lunar silver). It has 108,000 miles, and it still runs like new. (I've been really picky about proper maintenance, and have never had any issues at all.)
    I will probably get a new 4Runner soon to replace it - but I'm waiting to see if Toyota will be putting a V-8 in the 2017 or 2018 models.

      thanks, hows the ride compared to the TRD PRO original suspension?

    • @FloridaTRD
      @FloridaTRD  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Excellent. Much firmer without being harsh/jarring. I like a firmer ride so its perfect for me. The stock PRO suspension is way too soft. I put the Toytec 2in lift on mine and it made it a little better with more travel. But still would bottom out on the trail.

    • @FloridaTRD
      @FloridaTRD  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Your paying for more than an upgraded suspension. Problem is though that upgraded suspension sucks. Its far too soft for anything other than blasting the desert. Mine was bottoming out every trip on every rock. We are talking slower than walking speed. Adding the Toytec lift helped ALOT. But i was still left wanting more.
      I bought a PRO for the limited production and resale value.

    Did you spec the Icons on your build with toyota? I recently installed a Stage 3 Icon full kit on my F150, really impressive. In the future if I go to a SUV if the 4 runner is still body on frame I would certainly consider it if Ford hasn"t smartened up with the Explorer putting it on the to return Ranger frame and basing it off a rear wheel drive platform...

    Hey John I'm currently trying to decide on the color I want to go with. I originally wanted the white and then saw a few metallic grey sr5's on the road and I'm starting to lean towards that color. Is there any specific reason you went with white? I know there are pros and cons with both colors. Any extra info would be appreciated. Thanks for the great videos!

    • @FloridaTRD
      @FloridaTRD  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I love white cars for some reason. Also living in a state where it's hot 24/7 white helps keep the vehicle a few degrees cooler. White does show dirt but not as bad as darker colors. If you're going to wheel it white doesn't show trail rash like a darker color will.

    • @Avilab87
      @Avilab87 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Florida TRD I originally fell in love with the white so I think that is the color I'll go with. I've never owned either color on a vehicle. I've only owned black cars and I know I will probably never purchase a black car again. Thanks for the help

    Your exact reasons of camera gear safety and having good inside storage while maintaining the truck-like feel and drive, the 4Runner was a no brainer even though I love the Tacoma as well. Still a beast off road and part time 4 wheel drive, endless modifications, great balance between off road capable and on road comfortability. And of course the reliability is top notch. I am a professional drummer in a serious band and don’t want my thousands and thousands of dollars worth of drum equipment inside the bed of a truck compared to inside the safety of inside the actual suv. There is nothing else out there besides the 4Runner, a Jeep is the closest thing but don’t have a lot of cargo room and reliability isn’t there at all. Also on road is shit for the wranglers. The 4Runner is just the perfect solution truck for me.

    Thanks for the video, it's always nice to get others perspectives on why they chose a certain vehicle. After owning 3 FJ's for the last 8 years I purchased a new 2015 Limited at this time last year. I originally had a TRD Pro on order but ended up changing my mind at the 11th hour. I really like my limited but I feel as though I should have went with my first choice of the TRD Pro because I think it would have ridden a lot more like my FJ's. The full time AWD on the limited is fantastic, but it rides heavy. The 20" rims with low profile tires don't help it much either. My wife and I are pretty active and we enjoy mountain biking and hiking, so sometimes we get off the beaten path and I don't like doing that in my Limited. I spoke with the dealer this week and he can order me a TRD Pro as early as December, with an expected arrival date of March. I think I'm going to go that route.The bottom line is you cannot go wrong with any Toyota makes. They are pure quality and will run forever, simply something the American auto manufactures have yet to master.

    i got the TRD off road premium without KDSS. I couldn't justify the high price of the TRD pro when I can upgrade the suspension myself. Granted the Pro looks good with the TRD pro grill but that's just plastic. I got lucky and got my TRD premium with the TRD wheels, TRD aluminum skid plate and all weather package at no extra cost. It got dropped off at the wrong port and I immediately jumped on it. I live in Kansas and there was a guy in Pennsylvania that was wanting ot too but I was there physically with cash down payment on hand and the dealership worked hard to get me those keys. Love the 4runner's. Been wanting one since 97 when I seen a 89 4runner and the price seemed outrageous for the year and miles but now I know they hold their value well. 2018 Toyota 4runner TRD off road premium magnetic grey.

    Love the 4Runner!! Only thing that keeps me from buying one, would be the Gas mileage 17 mpg avg?? Might as well drop a v8 in it.

    • @fuckinmetal1982
      @fuckinmetal1982 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is my biggest complaint/issue with the TRD 4runner, the mpg is atrocious. You can get a V8 that puts out 400hp for the same mpg numbers.

    • @sillyboy32
      @sillyboy32 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes. I'm shocked by my mpg in my 17 trd pro and the lack of power.
      My 2014 Range Rover Sport 5.0 S/C puts out over 500hp and gets 20mpg highway.....their new diesel gets close to 30.

    I have been driving full size vans, not the mini vans, and I have never understood the attraction to pick up trucks because anything you carry in the bed can get wet or stolen, what the hell. What good is all that space when everything needs to come out at night of be gone. Now I'm thinking of getting an SUV instead of a van, but I'm not sure yet, SUV is nicer inside usually but only about half the space, or less. That's a big difference.

      You'd need something insulated.

    Good choice on the 4runner. The Landcruiser is a very capable off-road vehicle but it's too nice to be scraping it against bushes. I have a Lexus LX470 and used to cringe every time I took it on a trail and a thorn bush would scrape the sides. Bought a 97 4runner so I can play with it as much as I want without any guilt and use the Lexus when traveling with the family. problem solved.

    i have never owned an offroading vehicle and have always wanted to. I have always been fixed on jeep wranglers. i love the fact that you can modify it so much and take off the top and doors. But the main thing thats keeping me away from a 4runner or tacoma is I feel like i would have to worry about body damage a lot more. With a jeep i wouldnt care as much if it got damaged because the body is so cheaply made. Anyone have any input?

      If you're concerned about scratches, get an older 4-wheel drive and have it painted flat black. Then if you get a scratch on it, just whip out a rattle can of flat black paint and cover it.

    Nissan Xterra Pro-4X would have been nice choice...too bad they discontinued it at 2015. No frill, and huge huge cargo space ...it has 1 more thing that 4Runner does not have - versatility. But it does not have the resale vale.

    • @FloridaTRD
      @FloridaTRD  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Xterra was nice. Nissans just don't sell like they use to. At least not in my area. Maybe they will come back with something nice but not likely looking at the direction they are heading with all their other vehicles.

    How much on average is a lift for a trd pro? & how many inches is your lift? (Both front & back)

    • @FloridaTRD
      @FloridaTRD  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Depends on the kit you go with. If you buy a PRO you can add 2 more inches for $400. But kits can range from $1000 to almost 10K. Mine is just under 3in now. In this video it was around 2in.
