Sorry to be so offtopic but does someone know a trick to log back into an Instagram account?? I somehow forgot the account password. I appreciate any assistance you can offer me!
@Lukas Maxim I really appreciate your reply. I got to the site through google and Im in the hacking process atm. Seems to take quite some time so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
It wasn't used to its full potential. If they had engaged the locking diff and disabled the traction control, it wouldn't have had a problem. Or use the crawl control.
it has an extremely advanced A Trac offroad system and locking rear differentials which werent used either. these systems could have brought the truck up this trail without even needing a driver. The truck definitely wasnt being used right
As others have mentioned, its clear that ATRAC or the rear locker wasn't used...whats the point of that? It looks like you had it in 4hi with the full traction control systems on (you can hear the beep indicating that its cutting power to the engine so are literally working AGAINST the truck.
The Fast Lane Truck hmmm, sure sounds like high range. In either case, its clear that the VCS is still on and clearly impeding forward progress (the beeping). Just turning that off or turning ATRAC on would have helped enormously.
headcas620 I don't think so, it comes on and off exactly with the traction control kicking in, and its intermittent in its tone (starts and stops suddenly, which wouldn't happen with a seatbelt chime)
Next time, you should try it in 4 hi, then 4 lo, then with the rear locker, then with Crawl Control. Finally try disabling safety features. Keep taking SUVs/trucks off road!
Can you explain to me and the rest of your subscribers why you didn't bother to use A-TRAC or the rear locker? The 4Runner could have easily made it up with barely any wheel slippage.
Yasir The hill is steep enough and the soil is loose enough that the rocks slide down hill as you try to drive over them, or walk on them. The tires pull the rocks under them and leave a hole that the tire falls into, making it harder to climb over the next rock.
+Donald Weber i can understand that and i'm sure every vehicle would slip in these conditions, but it's pretty obvious that none of the traction aids are turned on which makes the slipping way more extreme than it needs to be
the rear locker was not engaged and you can see this when he makes it to the to top of the hill and only the rear left wheel is getting power, not sure about the a trac though because at one point the rear starts slipping and right after the front kicks in and the truck goes up again, i agree with you anyway, i also think the 4runner was not set up correctly
Roman finds a reason to plug that stupid Raptor in about every off-road video! Just let Nathan drive the Toyotas off road as he seems to be the only one that knows what's he doing! Andre wrecked one TRD Pro. Now, you have that new dude driving up Cliffhanger with like zero off-road experience. Then, Roman gets frustrated that he couldn't get the 4Runner up the hill even though you clearly don't have the rear locker engaged and likely don't have ATRAC engaged either.
The Raptor is their support vehicle, so of course it is going to be everywhere. DUH! I seriously doubt you can drive any better than these guys. My Jeep makes it up that hill without a locker OR ATRAC. What is Toyota's excuse?
Donald Weber I'm well aware their Raptor is their acting support vehicle. However, being the support vehicle doesn't mean they need to plug it when the video they've created is about a 4Runner and a Tacoma. If I wanted to hear about the Raptor, I'd watch one of their many Raptor reviews. Good for you, I'm glad your Jeep can do it. I recently owned a 2014 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon (2 door) and I'm well aware of it's capabilities both on and off road. I traded it for a 2015 4Runner Trail. To me, the 4Runner is a much better overland platform for what I do than my Jeep was. You ask what Toyotas excuse is, well it's made with a rear locker and ATRAC, so show your subscribers what it can do with the designed traction aids turned on. When you have a vehicle with independent front suspension, naturally you're not going to have the articulation a solid front axle vehicle is going to have, so let the traction aids do their job. Don't make this a Jeep vs Toyota thing.
+Jorge Lancaster He's probably just getting people to check out his little video. Even he said in the description his jeep was in "cheat mode". I suppose if his vehicle was total stock with an open diff, he wouldn't be spouting his ignorance.
No way did they lock the rear. Also the beeping in the video is a warning that the tranfercase has NOT fully engaged into 4Lo. You guys need to understand the traction aids and 4x4 system of the rig. That trail was no issue for either truck.
you guys didnt use the A-Trac or the locking Rear Differential on the 4Runner. That thing has a lot more potential and is much more capable than you guys just made it look. I dont know why you wouldnt use these features when theyre designed to get you out of situations like this
This video is so cringe-worthy because I know you guys didn't use the a-trac system on the 4-runner. The 4-runner would of made it up easy but the lockers weren't engaged...driver error. +Donald Weber No, they weren't. The rear diff clearly wasn't locked and ATRAC was not on. The ATRAC would have braked the spinning front tire and transferred power to the other wheel. First mod I did on my 3rd gen Limited was the orange/gray wire mod so I could run the locked diff in any range. It would be the first thing I changed on a fifth gen.
Roman, Nathan and Andre (and of course the recording crew) - you guys really make watching videos fun. These kind of mashups, fuel economy measurement, tow testing etc is very interesting. Keep it up.
Just subbed to TFLnow. I have been watching you guys for about 3 years, and I have to say you are my favorite car-channel on youtube, you make off road reviews like no other. Keep it up guys!!
Todd Yentsch, because this channel openly hates on Toyota constantly. Every Toyota video they hardly try and bring up the fucking raptor in every video not matter what they are reviewing.
EXACTLY what I was thinking. It was very obvious the way he was spinning his tires and saying "just need more momentum" that he doesn't know how to properly engage 4L with either center or rear locker to effectively clear that hill. In his config, he actually was putting a lot of stress on those components the way he was driving. I own an '03 4R and very rarely get stuck when simply using 4L and stock center diff lock. It's not about momentum. It's about crawling, low gear, locking diffs and smoothness. His reliance on throttle to get up the hill was a dead giveaway. In fairness, I was once a noob and heard that pesky beeping MANY times, only to be embarrassed later when my experienced buddy told me that I didn't properly put the T4R in 4L! Duh....
Chris Z right. And you would think these guys would have that "experience/know how"... I've got a 2014 T4R trail and had a 2011 FJ and both trail friendly if you have a little common sense and patience. It's amazing what these things are capable of. I've tried my "crawl control" on the T4R and honestly don't like it that much. But then again I've read that it's better used on descending hills. Havnt come in counter with that in northern Ohio much haha. But this was cringe worthy in some parts for sure!
I definitely have to echo everyone else's question / comment and ask: Why was the rear locker not engaged on the 4runner? There would have been no need to winch. This would have been a perfect opportunity to demonstrate the 4runner's extra capabilities. With that said, I do truly appreciate the effort you guys put into these videos and I'm glad everyone made it down safe!
I agree but the ties are part of the oem package. Unfortunately Toyota needs to set these trucks up for more street use than overland. Most TRD Pro trucks will be lucky to cross a grass field in their lifetime!
my brother and I brought our one week old toyota's up north empire. he has a 2015 toyota tacoma trd offroad double cab and I had a 2015 trail premium 4runner with duratracs. it was funny still having our temporary tags on, following jeeps with thousands of dollars in suspension and tires up north empire. they both did incredible for being practically off the showroom floor. I noticed the 4runner didn't quite flex as much as the tacoma. but with the rear lockers we went just about everywhere. Also if you ever come up to Clear Creek, I'll have to show you some pretty cool roads! good stuff gents.
totally puts into perspective the lockers on the f150 raptor and the trickery of the electronics on the Land Rover that friend lifted and put KO2s on. KO2s for ALL offroad reviews! sponsor them BFG!!!
Great channel guys, but I have to defend the 4Runner. It should have walked right up that hill in one attempt with the locker and/or ATRAC engaged as others have mentioned. That said, keep up the reviews! I like the 2.0
+Donald Weber I guess you've never been to a place where we make roads not use the same trails over and over. SAS front on a sky'ed toy is the norm here just to go places. No ulua fisherman owns a stock Toyota here.
+Donald Weber then why did you say I haven't been in worse? We make roads. Been farther in a Lava field. Been up the side of a 13,000 ft volcano. So according to you.... I guess I haven't. Haha. ok.
here's an excellent topic for debate. Is buying a new truck really worth it? sub-topics: pros/cons of both? bang for your buck? do they make them like they use to?
Roman I love your videos but this is frustrating! Did you use the rear lockers on the vehicles? Did you use the crawl control on either vehicle? You need to explain if you are using theses features !
No differential locker was used, no ATRAC used, the trucks were typically working just like any conventional 4X4 vehicles that's why you guys didn't make it up, you haven't tested the truck's full capabilities at all for all the times you guys were up there.
Without ATRAC the Toyotas were incomparable to your vehicle since you said you had limited slip differential on your rear, they both were operating just like any other ordinary open differential 4X4 vehicles.
Lots of comments here about the 4Runner not being what it used to be. I've owned and/or driven 4Runners, Tacos, Defenders, FJs, Xterras, and Cherokees for 20 years. I have nothing but positive things to say about the abilities of all of these trucks, with the exception of the reliability of the Defender. I currently own a 15 4Runner Trail. Exceptional off road truck, as good and capable as anything I've driven. In addition, it's equipped with more electronic off road driver aids than anything else with the exception to the Land Cruiser. I chose this truck as my current ride because it can play the role of family roadster. Wife, two kids, dog, are very comfy while I can take on just about the most challenging terrain. Rear locker and Atrac really work-and oh yea; Toyota reliability! As far as this video is concerned, how is it Roman can get his hands on the coolest trucks and produce some interesting videos, but he's got his head up his ass when it comes to driving off-road?
@The Fast Lane Truck, I watched the 4Runner segment of the video lots of time and noticed that the tire pressure is still too much for that type of wheeling. You mentioned in the video that you guys aired down but not enough. Please state what did you guys use on the 4Runner settings, like 4WD Lo, traction control off/on, hill descend off/on, rear locked, and so on to tackle that part of the Cliffhanger? And great job on taking safety first during severe weather condition.
It’s so funny to watch this. I know where that hill is and I’ve been up it many times. The first time, I did the harder line in a stock Land Rover and had no issues. Oh and the Land Rover is a 2004!
was just doing some wheeling with my 4runner in 4 lo without seatbelt and noticed no Bell chime. later I forgot to take off the ebrake and had the same chime. so not only did they not use a Trac or locker but may have also had the ebrake on.
We just got a brand new 2018 Toyota 4Runner off-road Premium and we LOVE it. They come with a mild all weather type tire. Reason being is that most people don't go hard core. When they do and use REAL off-road tires people tend to be pretty picky. No matter which tire Toyota picked you would have a lot of people complain and say no I want that tire not this one. They are also very picky about the brand tire they use. So Toyota gives you a more mild and cheaper tire and then the owner can get that tire they really want and it keeps the price of the vehicle down. You don't want to buy a vehicle with $2,000 tires that you hate. So, tires are the one thing you do after you have had it for a little while and can be sure. I say put 5,000 miles on it first to get to know your vehicle well and then you can go from there and choose your tires.
You can see one rear wheel slipping while the other rear wheel is stuck. Rear diff-lock was NOT engaged. I doubt 4-lo was engaged either, revs were too low for your wheel speed. Hope to see everything engaged in part 2, otherwise that's not the full potential of the TRD pro. Thanks for your reviews!
3 days ago I tackled a steeper, but similar crawl in the desert with a '00 runner on duratracs aired to manufacturer specs, w/out locker, and was able to reach top without batting an eyelid. I'm a 4x4 noob but understand lines from freestyle urban and trail mtb'ing. There must be a problem with his rig because apparently he's "experienced".
I would love to see you compare the 4Runner TRD pro vs a 2015 XTerra Pro4x. I realize they don't make the X anymore, but I've taken mine on much more technical terrain than that stock, with no issues. And I have no hill start assist, no hill descent, no crawl control. Maybe an idea for a future new tech vs old tech mash-up?
On steep hills, a longer wheelbase helps. The last 30 feet of the left side in tough Hey TFL, if you guys did this trail on the 29th of June, sorry for the holes at the end of the left side.
+The Fast Lane Truck So it was your holes I got stuck in. The 4Runner and my Jeep have similar wheelbases. With some rain, the holes will fill in, or change. It will be different anyway.
+Donald Weber Any hints on where this is at? I'm curious how hard it is on my dual sport bike and if it ends up having an easier or harder time than a 4wd truck.
Jeffrey Chow All depends if you can keep your speed up. The only hint I will provide is it is off of the Switzerland Trail, not far from Cliffhanger 1.0.
The seat belt wasn't allowing it to be pulled because your moving backward on a steep hill and it's doing it's job. You just forgot to put your seat belt on and remembered to put it on mid way up the hill, of course the seat belt it come out cause it's still in gear moving uphill.
+Donald Weber because he's crawling up rocks? And I've already seen how you have a jeep that doesn't need lockers...do you seriously not have anything better to do than argue with every fucking body on youtube? No one gives a shit about your jeep.
endocry I just like making fun of all the Toyota fanboys who think there $40,000 toy is the s$%t when I can do everything it can in a $5,000 Jeep. You obviously have some very thin skin.
Donald Weber IFS has no articulation. So if a tire starts to lift (even if its not off the ground entirely) that tire will lose traction. This is what makes a solid axle superior offroad. It will get grip with both tires where an IFS will lose grip with one tire.
Donald Weber Oh, its not that you CANT spin just one tire. You still need a locker to spin both together no matter what. But if you can keep both tires on the ground, with weight on them, you will have better traction than an IFS that is always lifting a front tire.
I live in Denver and take my fx4 up the trails. I know how tough some of the trails you test vehicles on are and I really appreciate it. I feel bad for you guys when you get trail damage, but we have all been there! We saw a guy on the trail upset about the rock scratch he had on his brand new Grand Cherokee, but all we could say was that it was awesome that he got real trail damage on his new vehicle!
The beeping is telling you that the 4Lo is not engaged properly. One common cause of this is putting the 4 wheel drive knob on 4Lo while the shifter is not in neutral or was done so when the car is not in a complete stop.
As a 4Runner trd-pro owner, I can guarantee you: A proper driver who used 4-low and the many off-road functions this 4Runner would have walked up that incline with little to no drama.
I really can't compare or criticize but I've climbed some hills as rocky and technical if not more than this one in Big Bear where there's hundreds of miles of hill climbing and rock crawling in my 2016 tacoma off road 4x4. locker on and in 4lo with crawl control there isn't much the crawl control can't conquer unless some sort of boulder impedes your clearance. that TRD pro 4 runner should have easily made that if the locker was on and/or the crawl control was engaged.
For shame TFL, you know darn well that SUV's got a ton more ability then trying to go up without letting her lock her open rear. And even '*if' that wasn't enough, you have a multitude of options right from that seat.
So you mean to tell me that the runner is equipped with a plethora of off road settings to power through the toughest terrain, but not a single setting was used to help him get up the hill??? C'mon TFL, you guys know better than that!
I think I've done this trail in CO in my SR5 (modded). I could make it up that hill in the Sr5 without lockers with 4Lo and A-trac. I believe that beeping indicates that 4-Lo is not yet engaged. It turns off when it's engaged. Until it is, A-trac won't work nor will the rear diff lock. Something strangely awkward about these guys...
good tires for the off road and a locker rear end are no substitute for knowledge and experience. Do it in heavy rain? do it in 2 feet of snow? change the tires and learn to navigate and you can put either of those up that hill and never miss a beat
So why no locker engaged? Are you guys going to redo? Well thanks for video TFL. Spend some time familiarizing yourself with the vehicle before doing these things.
its not the seatbelt, the seatbelt sound only happens the first 10 seconds or so after you exceed 12 mph and doesnt even sound the same. the sound you hear is the beep that the 4runner has basically for when it isnt being used right and someone didnt do something properly. For instance, if you try to put the truck in 4Lo without shifting the truck into neutral, which is almost guaranteed what happened here, itll make this noise letting you know "Hey, you didnt do that right and im not in 4Lo even though youre trying to make me go into 4Lo improperly." but yeah, that beap is a "youre not doing something right" beep. The seatbelt beep is more charming and soft, alot more pleasing to the ear
I have a 4Runner and actually know how to use it, thats how i know, incase youre wondering. Its impossible for that beep to be the seatbelt anyways because the seatbelt beep doesnt start until you exceed 12 mph and they definitely werent doing more than 12 mph crawling rocks
Such a bad example of the 4runner. You can clearly see that rear diff isn't locked, A-trac isn't on. Forget about the terrain management and crawl control. I wonder how many uneducated people in here will bash on 4runner's ability.
Did they even try to use A-Trac? Ive used A-Trac in my limited and gotten through worse. I do have a 3" lift, sliders, skid plates, steel bumper and bfg KO2s though...
Making the 4Runner look bad. I believe you should always try a line before locking the rear up .. In this case , it looks like the rear should have been locked and ATRAC engaged . owner of '08 FJ with Long Travel .
My buddy owns a jeep wrangler and he's a noob at off road. Went through a major water hole in a creek and had it in 4 hi. The jeep stuck into the gravel and the engine was struggling for power and it wouldn't down shift. He thought he knew what was going on but had no idea had to be pulled out. All he had to do was air down a bit for more traction and put it in 4lo but noobs will be noobs.
What was the noise when you turned on the crawl control on the way down the hill? How loud was it in the truck? I watched this on youtube and it sounded kind of bad and so that's why I'm asking.
I don't like to be one of those commenters on TH-cam that bashes, but it really seems like the TFL crew struggles with off-roading. The Xterra/ Hummer incident was terrible, and now it looks like the locker wasn't even used on the 4Runner in the comparo.
"How to off road in your TRD Pro and fail to use any of the off road features."
These clowns do not know anything about any of the vehicles they drive. It’s an insult and a waste of time. Almost. It is funny in the wrong way.
Sorry to be so offtopic but does someone know a trick to log back into an Instagram account??

@Lukas Maxim It did the trick and I actually got access to my account again. I'm so happy:D
Thank you so much you saved my account :D
Doesnt the 4runner have craw control for up hill? Seems like the 4runner wasn't getting used correctly.
You're right. This was a bad example of how to use the TRD Pro 4Runner
I can make it up and down that hill without any techno geewizes.
It wasn't used to its full potential. If they had engaged the locking diff and disabled the traction control, it wouldn't have had a problem. Or use the crawl control.
Bobby0345
So you are trying to say Toyotas NEED electronic nannies to climb that hill. Sad.

Ignorance. Really? Tell us exactly how much experience you have offroading. Go on.
What's the point of taking a TRD Pro up there if you aren't going to use any of the off road features? Would've easily climbed that if you did.
Only two off-road features needed. Low range and ground clearance.
and lockers.
dddire straits I don't have lockers, and I do just fine.
Just drive your ford and shut up
d smooth
I don't own a Ford.

Very true!
Todd Yentsch, because this channel openly hates on Toyota constantly. Every Toyota video they hardly try and bring up the fucking raptor in every video not matter what they are reviewing.

Seems like more of a tire fail than a 4Runner fail.
And Driver,
+d smooth this....
I agree but the ties are part of the oem package. Unfortunately Toyota needs to set these trucks up for more street use than overland. Most TRD Pro trucks will be lucky to cross a grass field in their lifetime!
A simple rear diff lock and the 4runner would have gone right up. Get Nathan or Andre, basic off road knowledge!!!
Get some BFG AT k02s. This is a review about tire choice. Not sure if they had deflated enough...
You never mentioned if the 4Runner had the lockers engaged?
They didn't have the rear locked on the TRD Pro.
doesn't look like it
They don't look like they are using it, but the TRD Pro does have a rear locker. Look at the website.
Brandon Lannan my 2016 4Runner Trail has one so I know the Pro has one.
+Retired AF CE I noticed that also
my brother and I brought our one week old toyota's up north empire. he has a 2015 toyota tacoma trd offroad double cab and I had a 2015 trail premium 4runner with duratracs. it was funny still having our temporary tags on, following jeeps with thousands of dollars in suspension and tires up north empire. they both did incredible for being practically off the showroom floor. I noticed the 4runner didn't quite flex as much as the tacoma. but with the rear lockers we went just about everywhere. Also if you ever come up to Clear Creek, I'll have to show you some pretty cool roads! good stuff gents.
Own a 15' TRD PRO 4 Runner, LOVE IT!!!
Why wasn't the rear locked on the runner?
i've been watching your channel for a long time now, i just realized i wasn't even subscribed this whole time. now i am
I was yelling at the screen! USE CRAWL CONTROL!!!! I've been waiting for a good video of toyotas crawl control put to the ultimate test up hill.
The Trail and TRD Pro both come with an electric locking rear differential.
totally puts into perspective the lockers on the f150 raptor and the trickery of the electronics on the Land Rover that friend lifted and put KO2s on. KO2s for ALL offroad reviews! sponsor them BFG!!!
Great channel guys, but I have to defend the 4Runner. It should have walked right up that hill in one attempt with the locker and/or ATRAC engaged as others have mentioned. That said, keep up the reviews! I like the 2.0
Please educate yourselves on these vehicles and redo this test. Love to see it done right!
I've been up worse grades with looser rocks than that in my 2000 Tacoma. Please engage atrac or at least rear diff lock. Thank you.
No you haven't.
+Donald Weber lol.
+Donald Weber I guess you've never been to a place where we make roads not use the same trails over and over. SAS front on a sky'ed toy is the norm here just to go places. No ulua fisherman owns a stock Toyota here.
Impotent2all
Making trails here is illegal as it destroys the environment.
+Donald Weber then why did you say I haven't been in worse? We make roads. Been farther in a Lava field. Been up the side of a 13,000 ft volcano. So according to you.... I guess I haven't. Haha. ok.
I work at the place that makes seat belts for Toyota. The seat belt is designed to lock at a particular angle. Its meant to keep you in your seat.
here's an excellent topic for debate.
Is buying a new truck really worth it?
sub-topics:
pros/cons of both?
bang for your buck?
do they make them like they use to?
Roman, your 4Runner is super nice. That line up hill was much more difficult even with better tires...
Roman I love your videos but this is frustrating! Did you use the rear lockers on the vehicles? Did you use the crawl control on either vehicle? You need to explain if you are using theses features !
Ohh man I'd kill to get my hands on both of these amazing machines here in Malaysia!
why didn't you use the crawl mode on the 4 runner?
why don't you lock the diff, or use crawl control...?
Did you try crawl control on the way up? I think it would have gotten you over the hump at the top......
No differential locker was used, no ATRAC used, the trucks were typically working just like any conventional 4X4 vehicles that's why you guys didn't make it up, you haven't tested the truck's full capabilities at all for all the times you guys were up there.
I made it up twice, once on left, once on right, with just a rear limited slip and worn BFG AT's. What's the Toyotas excuse?
Yasir
1977 Cherokee.
Where is this located?
Without ATRAC the Toyotas were incomparable to your vehicle since you said you had limited slip differential on your rear, they both were operating just like any other ordinary open differential 4X4 vehicles.
themouas
Well maybe if Toyota wanted to make a real offroad vehicle, they should put a limited slip diff in the rear.
thanks for all your hard work really loving watching u guys thanks again
Why cant he press the A-Track Button and lock up the rear?
@The Fast Lane Truck, I watched the 4Runner segment of the video lots of time and noticed that the tire pressure is still too much for that type of wheeling. You mentioned in the video that you guys aired down but not enough.
Please state what did you guys use on the 4Runner settings, like 4WD Lo, traction control off/on, hill descend off/on, rear locked, and so on to tackle that part of the Cliffhanger?
And great job on taking safety first during severe weather condition.
3 years later im still waiting for part 2
I see you got our check. Keep up the good work. - FCA- JEEP
this would be an awesome channel if there were different people driving. sad
Like you could do any better.
+Donald Weber a lot of people could
Ethan Shrago
Put up or shut up.
Why if one person drives then he can tell you more and compare better
It’s so funny to watch this. I know where that hill is and I’ve been up it many times. The first time, I did the harder line in a stock Land Rover and had no issues. Oh and the Land Rover is a 2004!
Rear diff wasn't locked on the 4Runner. At 5:19 you can see the other wheels kicking up dirt and the rear passenger side stopped moving.
was just doing some wheeling with my 4runner in 4 lo without seatbelt and noticed no Bell chime. later I forgot to take off the ebrake and had the same chime. so not only did they not use a Trac or locker but may have also had the ebrake on.
Bet the raptor made it up that no problem. Better tires, more power, better ground clearance.
Look I know that it doesn't look steep but it's so steep that some vehicles won't let you put on the seatbelts because of how steep it is
I might have to watch it again now that I've put a few more thousand miles on my rig
I like watching videos like this!
On steep hills, a longer wheelbase helps. The last 30 feet of the left side in tough
Hey TFL, if you guys did this trail on the 29th of June, sorry for the holes at the end of the left side.
No worries, we produced this video last week but now we're a bit concerned for the next one ;-)
+The Fast Lane Truck
So it was your holes I got stuck in.
Jeffrey Chow
All depends if you can keep your speed up.
The only hint I will provide is it is off of the Switzerland Trail, not far from Cliffhanger 1.0.
+Donald Weber Thanks! Looks like a hill on the north side, but I don't think it tops out.. Will have to hunt around!
The seat belt wasn't allowing it to be pulled because your moving backward on a steep hill and it's doing it's job. You just forgot to put your seat belt on and remembered to put it on mid way up the hill, of course the seat belt it come out cause it's still in gear moving uphill.
No crawl control demo up the hill?
"I have more experience than Brian so let me go dig him out...THE SEATBELT WON'T RETRACT AND THE WINDOW WIPERS WON'T TURN OFF!"
This rare color is called Shartle Spray Brown in case you need touch up paint. Similar to the Skidmarks color scheme, but lighter.
Crawl mode was not engaged going up.
Why should it be?
+Donald Weber because it could have probably gotten farther up the trail than either driver did.
+Donald Weber because he's crawling up rocks? And I've already seen how you have a jeep that doesn't need lockers...do you seriously not have anything better to do than argue with every fucking body on youtube? No one gives a shit about your jeep.
endocry
I just like making fun of all the Toyota fanboys who think there $40,000 toy is the s$%t when I can do everything it can in a $5,000 Jeep. You obviously have some very thin skin.
endocry
Your comments suggest otherwise. You are taking things WAY to personally.
I need an off road type truck/suv that I can put 2 car seats in. Is the 4Runner a good option?
Why was the rear locker engaged? Spinning a single tire up front is going to happen because of the IFS, but the locker is a requirement in back.
Spinning a single tire is because of an open differential. Has nothing to do with IFS.
Donald Weber IFS has no articulation. So if a tire starts to lift (even if its not off the ground entirely) that tire will lose traction. This is what makes a solid axle superior offroad. It will get grip with both tires where an IFS will lose grip with one tire.
Stuka87 Then why will my tractor spin one of the rear tires until I step on the lock pedal? Why will my solid front axle Jeep spin one tire?
I got the 16' Trail. It's a beast off road.
Will you pls try 4Runner on this hill again? Put in manual mode. leave in it 1th gear, 4l and lock the rear dif. Pls pls try~~~~~
Hey @TFL, was the rear diff locked in the TRD Pro? Looked like one rear tire was spinning, but could be that both were spinning. Keep up the fun work!
So... Why you didn't lock the rear diff on the 4runner? I noticed a lot of wheel spin on one wheel and the other wheel didn't spin at all
Why don't you come out and either defend yourselves or admit that you messed up?
Great video guys!!! Love these vehicles ;-)
The beeping is telling you that the 4Lo is not engaged properly. One common cause of this is putting the 4 wheel drive knob on 4Lo while the shifter is not in neutral or was done so when the car is not in a complete stop.
What tires on the 4Runner? They didn't look great for off road use in a real world test. Lockers also for the tough side if needed. Still a fun video.
Both are just knocked out of the park in looks, they look happy off road. Most reviewed trucks look unhappy unless lifted
Great video. What's the difference with the TRD PRO and the 4runner Trail Premium? I'm about buy and appreciate your input. Thanks
lockers or a-trac engaged on 4runner?
no. i dont know why it wasnt used...
Can you change the oil on the 4 runner trd pro with the skip plate in place or does it have to be removed?
What would you recommend for daily driving and weekend off-roading: Sports Premium with KDSS or TRD Pro?
So why no locker engaged? Are you guys going to redo? Well thanks for video TFL. Spend some time familiarizing yourself with the vehicle before doing these things.
What's that beeping sound in the cabin at about 5:10? Slipping sound?
+mike wellington seatbelt
+The Fast Lane Truck thanks
its not the seatbelt, the seatbelt sound only happens the first 10 seconds or so after you exceed 12 mph and doesnt even sound the same. the sound you hear is the beep that the 4runner has basically for when it isnt being used right and someone didnt do something properly.
Why didn't you guys lock the rear diff on the 4Runner?
Did they even try to use A-Trac? Ive used A-Trac in my limited and gotten through worse. I do have a 3" lift, sliders, skid plates, steel bumper and bfg KO2s though...
I wonder if my pretty much stock 89 bronco with mud terrains would make it up this easier than the 4runner.
Making the 4Runner look bad. I believe you should always try a line before locking the rear up .. In this case , it looks like the rear should have been locked and ATRAC engaged . owner of '08 FJ with Long Travel .
Long travel huh. That gives you like 5 inches of articulation right?
+Donald Weber hi Donald , 11.5" in front .
I found this whole video very enjoyable. I think folks here are being a little too over the top about driving technique.
Been in far worse terrain than that and never had an issue with my 4Runner.
Clearly the rear diff was not locked at 5:20, the rear passenger tire was not turning at all as the front wheels were. Come on FLT!
Clearly he's just the money man. NO off-road experience AT ALL!!!
I love the new 4Runners man
Does the 4runner not have an e-locker at 5:20??
What was the noise when you turned on the crawl control on the way down
the hill? How loud was it in the truck? I watched this on youtube and it
sounded kind of bad and so that's why I'm asking.
What is the tire air pressure being used in each trucks?
Doesn't that have a rear locker? Why was one rear wheel spinning?
I don't like to be one of those commenters on TH-cam that bashes, but it really seems like the TFL crew struggles with off-roading. The Xterra/ Hummer incident was terrible, and now it looks like the locker wasn't even used on the 4Runner in the comparo.
