    The ending is sad that she’ll always have to fear his return, and it’s especially worse because he came back once, for a person with PTSD to have him return is an actual nightmare come true.

      How great is this movie You are semi-tense, unsure of reality and noticeably awkward and in pops Jason Bourne But he's not here to defend you with a ball point pen or an Architectural Digest No he will limit your social activities, suggest you buy a gun and learn how to use it and then offer you a book-to read! The Gift of Fear. Brilliant!!! I liked this movie.

      I have been a the psych units before as a patient, I totally agree. Although there is some staff that will actually care about us, most don't understand or cares to understand the internal struggle the patients' experience. I only felt my mental state declining the more time I spent there. The only help they offer is textbook help, giving you pamphlets and other similar stuff. Once you enter one you just keep coming back, I knew people who have been there 7 times already. They just don't help.

    • @jaymoon2377
      @jaymoon2377 6 ปีที่แล้ว +53

      Lamar Scrotum Given a certain town or area, say a decently sized town or city, there are generally a limited amount of 24/7 permi-stay facilities available to patients so it’s likely it wouldn’t have been a huge leap to assume which hospital Sawyer was in. Asking a few people here and there and you can generally get your confirmation quick on new patients, staff, etc.

    • @glitterlover3244
      @glitterlover3244 5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Lamar Scrotum well not many towns and cities have mental hospitals. Like where I live, the closest one is about an hour away for adults and 2-3 for minors. If he tracked her down from there and watched her movements this closely he could do it. This isnt something that far off, the only parts of this movie I find hard to believe is him having the fake ID on hand and ready with the staff ok. Some mental hospitals are still like this, but luckily we are starting to have more people who really care about the paitents.

      it's situational, panic and fear make you irrational, you can't say it doesn't until you've been put in that situation for real. Most people that go through this say things like "I didn't think" "I wasn't thinking" "I felt like I wasn't in control" and that's true, you literally lose control, your natural survival instincts kicking in, which aren't exactly easy to override when in a position are pure life and death.

    I was forced to stay in a hospital like she was. They want you to stay in as long as insurance or someone else pays. They isolate people, keeping them from family and friends. They'll sedate you. They make you sleep in the same room as violent patients. They keep the lights on 24/7 for "safety" but it actually simulates sleep deprivation. The "doctor" that I saw there put me strait on Zoloft, which hit me within hours of taking it and fucked up my head. He said if I refused to take it they'd keep me there longer. I suffered with years of anxiety and being unable to leave the house without some way of getting back on my own accord because of my forced stay. I thought I would only be there for a night, as I went there by my own will, but they kept me much longer. A few years later when I was actually in crisis I refused to talk to any kind of therapist because I knew I'd be sent back.

    I actually ended up in the hospital last year for suicidal ideation & a mental breakdown due to work and personal issues. It’s a terrifying idea & hard to grasp being away from your normal life for 5-7 days (or longer if things escalate to a dangerous level & progress hasn’t improved to where the staff is confident you won’t harm yourself or others). The hospital I was at was actually genuine and caring towards all of us & wanted to assist us in recovering and went out of their way to talk with us.

      It's very scary how easy it is for a abusive person to use America's bullshit for profit health care system to have someone Baker Acted and locked up against their will, despite their not being a threat to themselves. All it takes oftentimes is for them to call the cops and lie. My abusive, bipolar mother did it to me- then the bitch wonders why I won't talk to her anymore :/
      Also, you would really think that as someone who had been committed a half dozen times (for very good reason) herseld, she WOULDN'T be able to turn around and do it to someone else illegitimately, especially to the same damn place... But that's what happened. Pretty incredible. And then the Drs look at you and say "Oh yeah, I remember your mother..." While checking the box next to 'family history of mental illness'. And of course the situation would justifiably infuriate anyone, but the staff takes that as evidence of you belonging there.
      Laws really need to change to prevent this.
      Ending for profit health care in the US would actually go a ways to prevent it, by removing some of the incentive for this to happen. So would defunding police so cops are NOT the ppl who respond to a potential mental health emergency and decide where that person goes, if anywhere. This whole thing is shot on an IPhone 7?! Dude! I'm impressed more than anything.
    Also I actually went through this kinda, I was put onto new meds and was supposed to say in a hospital for 1-2 days to make sure I was ok. I was sent to a place called Long Leaf hospital in Alexandrea, LA. The doctor never sent my papers telling them only 2 days (he forgot) and they had no choice but to keep me for 7 DAYS! (The minimum stay without papers) I was in an unhelpful, depressing hospital for 7 freaking days. Never go there guys.

Let alone the fact the actually took 7 DAYS of your LIFE away! I hope the statute of limitations hadn't expired since this happened to you. You better get a lawyer ASAP doesn't matter the cost cause I've seen cases like this get as much as 15 mil so receiving a million isn't at all farfetched. As someone who has been in a mental ward 3 times, I can safely say this movie is a VERY accurate representation of what goes on in one. Plastered on the walls are uplifting quotes from the Bible or greeting cards etc., when what needs to be plastered on the walls is "Protocol and Policy Come Before Patient Welfare, ALWAYS!" They should also give-out pamphlets to new incoming patients that explain, "You no longer have humanity or dignity, and are now considered an animal and a number."
    Questions are welcome, but don't be dicks.

      Pink-Perfection I could hardly finish the movie because of how eerily accurate it was to my time in one of these facilities. If you don't maintain the perfect "happy and stable" image, then they just keep adding days. Which is kind of hard to do for anyone, let alone people dealing with issues already. I was drowning in meds, bruised up on my arms from having my blood drawn again and again from the exact same holes, wearing paper clothes with no underwear for days. I made the mistake of crying in the toilet because the meds they gave me caused horrible headaches. They just added days.

    • @MilkScrew
      @MilkScrew 6 ปีที่แล้ว +124

      I don't know how it works in your state, but here in NC, they can only keep you 6 days without a court order. And you can even invoke your right to a 3 day stay (we talked to a lawyer) if you truly feel you're not getting better or getting helped, or even if you *are* better. On my seventh day, I told the doctor that I knew it was illegal for them to keep me past 6 days without court order. Then he changed his tune and told me how to get out: fill-out a home-management plan booklet I had gotten 3 days prior and had no word on since. No emphasis that I needed to get it done to leave, nothing.
      Also, I didn't eat for 6.5 days because the food made me so sick, no matter what I ate! I finally begged for *something* and the nurse said, "I'll get you some fruit." Breakfast came, no fruit, "Oh we have to pass that order through the doctor." Ummmm... I HAVEN'T EATEN IN OVER 6 DAYS!!! Now fucking fruit is "prescription-level" contraband?!!? Then they said which meds I was off and on, like I take Zofran for extreme nausea, and they tried to take me off of it. I just looked at this cunt nurse and for every med "they" wanted me off of, I just replied: "Yeah, that's not happening." She looked stunned, like I had just broken her brain! People don't deny doctor's orders when they know they're bad for them, and I did! Fuck those doctors, I saw them 3 times in 6 days and they know what's best for ME?! Fuck that noise!!!

      Pink-Perfection I've been in the mental facility 5 times for my schizophrenia and stuff. The longest I ever stayed in one was 2 weeks and a half. It was dreadful and I wanted to get out so bad, but they wouldn't let me. I had to do my time. They make u seem like ur crazy, even tho ur not. They give u pills that will mess u up and I had bad side effects from it. I'm glad for the experience tho and meeting alot of colorful crazy people and sometimes the food was good. I get SSI money each month now from the government. So anybody who has been in a mental facility has the right to apply for it. I'm glad I did. Also this movie was great..I related to it since I know what it's like being in a mental hospital. I loved this movie.

    As someone who's been voluntarily and involuntarily admitted to facilities like this, as a child, and adult, I can tell you this movie plays off that fear we all get after signing those forms, and having second thoughts, but knowing that you've basically signed your fate, in my case about a year ago I had a depressive episode, and was admitted to get my meds sorted for 2 weeks, nothing like being driven to this place at 3 in the morning, having a relative help you read through the forms in a sleepy haze, and then spending the next 2 weeks with the only news of the outside world being phonecalls and whatever appears in the tv that only the staff has the remote to.

    This reminds me of being in rehab, they would recommend a short amount of time and when that time is almost up all of a sudden they recommend an extension. That would happen for every single person not signed up for the max time already. I’d see people coming up to their 30 days and be all happy they are about to leave and I’d tell them they weren’t going anywhere If their insurance or parents had the means to pay more and almost every time they would be there another 30-60 days. A lot of people didn’t even need to be there. They would come in because their parents got scared that they drove drunk once and they would do anything they could to convince the patient they were a addict if that didn’t work they were convincing the parents that the patient was all sorts of fucked up and needed to stay longer. Once they found out the person couldn’t pay and the insurance wouldn’t pay they were ok to leave. They would give the same treatment plan to every single person no matter what was wrong with them and say it was a personalized treatment plan. They were trying to brainwash people to believe they were addicts when a lot of them weren’t. They would say you had to give a 48 hour notice before leaving so they could break the parents down for two days to get the kid to stay there and get the money but you only had to give. A 2 hour notice we had a lawyer that went there and I learned about a lot of lies they told people. One 18 year old kid was there because he smoked weed and they tried to pull the 48 hour notice thing and I told his mom you only had to wait 2 hours I watched them frantically running around trying to come up with a plan to get him to stay. All mental health places are fucked up businesses that prey on people for money, if you’re lucky you’ll have a counselor that actually gives a fuck and will care if you get better. Luckily for me I was actually all fucked up and needed the time there but that’s also made me able to see who wasn’t fucked up and didn’t need to be there.

    This movie review brought back terrible memories as this has happened to me before. Last year, I overdosed on my antidepressants. Once I recovered at the hospital I was staying in I was sent to one of these places without my knowledge. I was told I was being transported to another hospital where I could properly be treated. I thought nothing of it at the time because I felt the doctor knew best. Once I had arrived I began to feel uncomfortable as the doors behind me were being automatically locked. I signed some paperwork (without reading it, yes very stupid I know.) Again, thinking nothing of it. I ended up being there for a week. The nurses at the behavioral center don't give a fuck about you. You are forced to take your medicine or you risk staying in there longer. They feed you dog shit. They make you stare at a TV for entertainment, the therapist was never available, the people there sucked although I did make some friends in the end. I'm afraid of going back to a hospital again for help with my mental health. Next time I'll just drop dead instead.

    The thing that freaks me the out about this is that there are plenty examples of mental hospitals throughout the United States doing shit like this where they Warehouse people just to Bill their insurance and keep them on heavy doses of medication that makes it impossible for them to recover.

    honestly the pill scene was too real. i was in a behavioral hospital when i was a teen and they didn't really talk to us and put us all on the strongest anti psychotic they could. so it was a bunch of 5-16 year olds walking around aimlessly, struggling to stay awake and listening to whatever the hell they were talking about in group therapy. i made it feel like i was there a lot longer than a week.

    I worked in a mental health facility. It's no win situation. We were underfunded. We couldn't afford to pay for high quality, caring staff. I wish I could say we did the best we could, but with staff who really had no empathy for the patients, our patients deserved better. I lasted 3 months.

    I've had suicidal thoughts for many years, and talking about them with my doctor has opened up options like counselling and outpatient therapy programs, not involuntary holding. The people who I've met working in these programs are some of the kindest individuals I've met- they care about the people that they work with, and want what's best for them- not to make them more sick for their own gain (there are enough people that need help, that the idea that they need to spend resources making a healthy person appear sick is absurd. I was on a waiting list for a therapy program for a year)
    It's hard enough for people to admit to needing help, let alone seeking it out even when the situation gets dire... the programs that are out there don't need this kind of demonization.

      I know right?! One of these hospitals is the only reason I am still alive and I’m just seeing everyone say that they are aweful! I think that really it’s like most treatment, if you go in wanted to get help and actively involved in your health it’s amazing and very helpful, whereas if you go in feeling like there is nothing wrong and not wanting to be a part of it then obviously it’s not going to do anything.

    • @LucyLioness100

      Totally agree. I was in the hospital last year for attempting suicide & the staff at the hospital was kind, professional and truly want to help. It’s a crushing reality & frightening, but some of the other patients befriended me immediately and a couple of us became good friends even during post-hospitalization

    Kinda sad that this movie paints behavioral clinics like this. I was just discharged from a behavioral health clinic 5 days ago, and I feel so much better. I got the help that I needed, plus, I learned healthy coping skills, and the people I met in there were amazing. It's kinda funny when someone asks "Why are you in here?" and you respond (most of us were suicidal) and you answer, and immediately, someone else perks up and says, "Me too!". The connections I made in there made me feel that it was okay to have these feelings and it was okay to get help. I'll never forget the week I spent there.

      How do they paint behavioral clinic like this? We literally only saw one behavioral clinic, and it was shown several times throughout the movie that what they did was wrong and they even got arrested and shut down. If you watch this movie and say to yourself "Man behavioral clinics seems horrible", then you probably shouldn't be watching movies in the first place due to being too impressionable of a person.
      Besides that. I'm glad that you had a pleasant time and got the help you needed.

      Lambi+ Did you wach the movie? Did you at the very least watch the review? This is a discussion based a movie called "Unsane" and the plot is the very specific scenario I just summed up. So I don't understand your question to me or your logic.
      The OC here is saying they had a great time in a unit like this. But no way could come out healthier you if you experienced half the things the main character goes through. The movie is unrealistic in so many ways so trying to compare a realistic good experience to a psychological thriller thats been dramatized for cinema is a rather silly thing to do

      Unsane had nice cinematography and was scary objectively, but I personally hated the movie because of how terribly it portrayed mental wards. Ranging from small things I noticed comparing to a time I was in one (i.e. the clock wouldn’t have been allowed, each patient has their own bedroom with sometimes having a roommate, freely having the bathroom stalls), it just annoyed me how half-assed their sort of reasoning was. It felt like they chose a mental ward because there’s the disconnect of having only insane people in there, and also the concept of it could’ve grown more if the entire thing was in her head, although each direction they could’ve taken can be described as overused and cliche. If I had watched this before going to a mental ward, I would’ve refused to cooperate because of how they portray that instead of people getting help, these people are all just maniacs and that’s mainly their one dimension as characters besides the journalist and the main protagonist. I can’t speak for all mental wards, so maybe there are some with worst experiences and if somebody has been in one I’d want them to say so to counteract this, but with people who just acted aggressively (and never hurt anyone, even though she did four or five times before solitary confinement), they stayed in their room doing written assignments and came out for beginning therapy check ins, to eat (not snack time but breakfast/lunch/dinner), and for medications. The entire thing about how they show mental wards weighs down and ruins the film for me, because it scares me more to think that this could deter somebody with issues to seek help

      I've also spent time in a MHH... Never would you have mixed gender sleeping areas... usually it's 2 to a room (open ward) and 1 or 2 to a room (locked ward.) Bathrooms are kept locked... a staff member has to unlock it for you, and wait outside for you to finish (even the ones in sleeping rooms) as a safety measure against suicide attempts. NEVER would 2 patents be outside (even in a courtyard) unsupervised. Dry out programs are usually a 30 day minimum... and attacking another does increase your stay to 7+ days. Minimum voluntary stays vary by state... I'm in a 24 hour state bordering one with a 72 hour min stay... and that's determined by your residence, not what state the facility is in.... if anything, my experience in real life made the story creepier and also made it scarier for my friend watching it with me... who afterward was concerned that what was shown was reality. We talked a lot afterwards about the differences.
