  • Finally got a chance to test out a gun I modified 2 years ago in a spearfishing trip. This video was shot on a one week trip where 4 days were spearfishing. Other days were too windy. Used a modified 82cm Pathos with both roller and classic setups. I chose the best performing setups used in pool testing and they did really well in the field as well. Who says 80cm guns are only "hole guns"? Added music from Pink Floyd "Shine on your Crazy Diamond" Keyboard edition

    Interesting to see these results which will help me with the design of my new self-built wooden gun. Some very accurate shooting there my friend! Great vid!

    Great shooting Majd! Got the same 82 with the classic 2x14mm SID setup. Works wonders!

    Exelent video but i have a question wheather you would recomend the pathos roller, and if you do would you recomend the sniper roller or the laser carbon roller

      I found that to get the roller setup to shoot accurately, I have to reduce the power. So for some hunting situations reduced power is no problem, but if you need more power, the classic setup can be pushed much harder and will give much more power ... without losing accuracy. With the roller I found that if I added the power, the tail would lift up and shots would dive down ... causing very low shots. I personally decided I preferred the classic setup as it had much more power and was quicker to load. If setup correctly, both are equally accurate ... but again for the roller to get accurate you can only push power to a certain extent before the shaft become unstable.

    Your aiming is spot on all the time. How do you do it? I am missing 50% of my shots!!! I have no pool to practise🥺. Could you make a video of how to aim correctly and accurately 🙏. Tips and tricks

    • @majdq8
      @majdq8  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If you have been spearfishing for a few years your misses are most likely not your fault. You would be shocked at how poorly most spearguns shoot ... in the pool the gruop sizes are bigger than a basketball even from short range. To shoot accurately the most important thing is to have a well setup speargun that shoots exactly where you aim. That is 90% of accurate shooting.

      @@majdq8So sounds like I need a sea (no pool) target practice session. In your opinion what guns are good from the stock configuration, without too much modification? Brands and or models?
      Have you thought of a top-tier list of the most accurate guns? Would be very interesting to know.

      @@majdq8 what do you mean by gun 'Setup' could be so many factors. How do you start to eliminate individual components eg. bands, spears, etc.?

    • @majdq8
      @majdq8  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@neilrobins3329 Setup starts with good correct gun design and a good predictable trigger. HIgh handle designed to push recoil into palm rather than thumb. Correct band to shaft mating where shaft comes off the track super stable. This allows huge improvement in shaft velocity and retained shaft velocity ... with a very nice by product which is amazing accuracy! Watch the Handle Mod videos and you will get a better idea of the physics involved.

    Hello majdq8.
    Love your videos!
    I have a quick question.
    Would the 2 x 14mm 360% stretch setup make sense on a 75 cm gun with a 6,5mm spear? Or will it be too much power for the spear to handle?

    • @majdq8
      @majdq8  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      2 x 14mm @ 360% is the perfect setup and will give you performance of older 100 cm gun setups.

      @@majdq8 so a 6,5mm spear will be ok? No need for a 7mm?

    • @majdq8
      @majdq8  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes but it might be a good idea to add the flotation addition on the barrel to make add some buoyancy (as in the gun used in this video). Another option is to change the barrel to a Carbon Fiber barrel, which is much lighter.

    some nice shooting in at times fairly murky water, excellent. Do you always shoot tethered even when hunting relatively small fish, or is it for just in case you come across something bigger?

    • @majdq8
      @majdq8  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, the float line has a float connected to it and on that I put my fish stringer ... also a gps or location device. The float makes it easy for boats to see you in the middle of the sea ... also makes you easier to locate from the boat that drops you off. Another thing is that it is always a good feeling to know that you can let go of your gun when you shoot a big fish or when your shaft is stuck on a reef .

      This was a 7 day trip where 4 days were spearfishing. Was windy or water was too murky on off days. Seems like a lot of fish in a 7 minute video but trust me on some days I had over 5 hours in the water without firing a single shot.

    Hey maj, would you recommend me changing my 100cm gun to a roller ? Or should i leave it as it is with 2 14mm primeline bands

    • @majdq8
      @majdq8  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think you can't beat the simplicity and performance with less moving parts of a classic 2 x 14mm SID bands. With a 100cm gun you might want to mod the handle as recoil can start to push the shaft to the side (left for right hander). If you want to go with a roller, make sure you have your setup where the wishbone is not pushing the tail of the shaft on exit and causing low inaccurate shots. Also the Pathos roller is not the best as it does not use bearings and the roller can lock up and needs proper maintenance to keep the rollers turning. Something like a Mannysub roller with ceramic bearings would be better.

    hi majd 0:27 what do you mean by 360%

    • @majdq8
      @majdq8  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      360% is calculated by taking the distance from the band hole to the shark fin ... then x 2 ... then divide by 3.6 (for 360%). This is cut length of the band
