Tai Lung: Dark blue, for his fallen dream and isolation. Shen: Crimson red, for his false illusion of power and the chaos he caused. Kai: Jade Green, for his hollow soul and entitlement.
Tai Lung is the best KFP antagonist. Yes, Lord Shen is the most evil and cruel; but Tai Lung was the most fierce, brutal, relatable, understandable, and even empathetic. He’s the most well liked because we all know he’s not truly evil. Just…broken.
Shen was the scariest villain to me, his voice acting was impeccable and terrifying but Tai Lung was the most compelling motives wise and was absolutely brilliant in his mastery.
I will always be amazed at how perfect Kung Fu Panda nailed its villains. Honestly even more so when I realize they were originally children's movie but everyone poured their best and made them into something more.
I was recently watching the first part of Kung Fu Panda and when I saw the moment where Master Shifu apologized to Tai Lung, I could feel how precious and important Shifu was to him. There was so much pain and regret in his gaze, but his blind rage and desire to be recognized was stronger...

Tai Lung was an artist chasing his dream and life’s work only to have it shattered in front of him twice. Lord Shen was a true monarch seeking to take an entire country for himself using technology to achieve his goal of conquest. Ultimately he was driven by fear that one day a warrior of black and white, that a panda would end his reign of destruction. General Kai was a warrior who thrived and depended on success in the field of battle taking everything he possibly could including the spirits and power of others.
