- Gotham Knights has gotten a lot of criticism since its release, which makes sense, but I do think there's a lot of good things about the game that get ignored. T and I decided to semi-review the game so far and these are our thoughts. #gothamknights #gaming #batman

The best thing about Gotham Knights is that it gets you hyped to go back and play the Arkham games

Big facts, I ran back to Arkham Knight so I could experience fast traversal around Gotham City. Hell I don’t even mind overusing the Batmobile after that crappy scooter in Gotham Knights

A big thing to consider is GK can be considered as WB Montreals first game , Arkham Origins had Arkham city’s assets handed down to them from rocksteady , but GK is their first game made from scratch .
A game that had veterans like Patrick redding who worked on games like splinter Cell and Geoff Ellenor. Then we'll add the resources they had. Even for a first game they stumbled and some of the shortcomings are on them. Informing fans that they canceled the last Gen 5 months out on top of that nightwing and redhood demo which what turned people against this game.
Titanfall was build from scratch, and it had satisfying shooting mechanics and then we have titanfall 2 which is fantastic. Jedi fallen order is the studios first game in melee combat genre and its beloved with an anticipated sequel. Rocksteady's first game was Urban Chaos riot response a fps that failed because it released at the end of the ps2 generation then we have arkham asylum their first melee game that changed the genre of superhero games and the freeflow which influenced the design of many 3rd person action games and Rocksteady didn't have notable names at the time.
I was surprised to find this was 900 Rands at BT Games.
@@baki484 thats fair, but not every studio is going to reach their Magnum Opus on their first 1-3 attempts. FromSoftware had 40+ games that ranged from bad to good before they made Demons Souls and Dark Souls

@@phantom3146 No please do not get it twisted I'm agreeing with you. I'm not talking in defense of WB Montréal if anything there is no excuse for them to put out a game as bad or mediocre (depending on who ask) as this.
I'm also hopeful to an extent but there was a job listing and it seems they are doubling down on this style of game. It's a separate team so maybe it can be better but I don't trust Patrick redding and the gotham Knights dev team. The sad thing is that the game didn't have to be revolutionary. Jedi fallen is made up by the sum of its parts taking from uncharted or tomb raider with the puzzles and exploration metroid and soul like combat but simplified. The first titan fall wasn't perfect but the second one.
Shabba games made web of shadows in 18 months great gameplay and clear love for the source material it's not pretty visually but it's great to play (hope insomniac is taking notes for Spiderman 2)
Spiderman is also a game that takes from previous Spiderman games hell and a bit of arkham especially in quality (Brian Intihar said in an interview and their biggest aim was the the quality of the arkham games). Guardians of the galaxy was redeemed by it's narrative and environments and gotham knights has let some people down even on that front. The best part was the opening cinematic and that it.
But I genuinely hope future projects are good.

While yes people have been spreading this narrative that it "looks like a mobile game" over half of them confuse UI design with graphics. And the other half wanted Arkham's gritty looks, even Digital Foundry stated that GK had better environmental textures and on par characters models than AK. And, they were mostly negative about the game. )
If nothing else, things Gotham Knights does fairly well is far better character writing for the bat family, environmental textures, colors, and far better usage of randomly generated events based on the setting. (Batman is dead and even he ended up with better writing and utilization then most bat family members did in Arkham)
The whole thing that makes these characters so likable is that they’re grounded in reality and that they’re just people that don’t have super powers, yet they’re flying around like Spider-Man
I don’t necessarily agree , Nightwing always swings and does acrobatics just like Spider-Man in the comics and they always pull off unrealistic superhuman feats . The appeal is more in line with them being underdog vigilantes birthed in a gritty city trying to grow past a mantle and be their own heroes
Red hood is like Jesus but more extreme. Walking on water wasn’t good enough

It's a half baked game that needs another year in the oven. Everything about it is meh imo. Not necessarily bad, but I wouldn't say good. The only actually bad thing about the game I would say is the upgrade system. I don't know if it's just me, but it was unnecessarily complicated, and confusing. Everything else is just meh. Disappointing, 4.5/10.

It's a fairly small fan base but not dead entirely.

I think my least favorite part of the game is that there are no thugs. None of the enemies make me feel like I’m in a Batman game. The regulators are cyberpunk characters, the mob looks absolutely nothing like a mob, and the freaks look okay but have some of the worst dialogue I’ve ever heard in my life. I also don’t find it fun to fight anyone because there’s always a tedious tank or drone controller.
Oh yeah, the Regulators are bad. The game world is too oversaturated in sci-fi stuff in general and the Regulators are the most noticeable part of that.
To quote Syndrome: "With everyone super, no one will be." You need a "normal" backdrop to make those heroes and the big villains shine.
I would argue conceptually this is the MOST comic book batfamily experience. Doing the premeditated crimes with these comic book locations gives it a cinematic feel. And having this city have many different areas of side quests that you face over the course of many days really shows the pressure the batfamily face with their days expanding relationships and world building(justice league calls) from this angle while it is less focused of a game I would argue it is the most accurate comic book batfamily experience.
Nightwing's gliding ability should have been like when spiderman opens his arms and opens a web that allows him to u know, glide.
Imho Nightwing's traversal ability should've been some sort of parcour enhancement. Heck, you can even go with the flying trapeze but use it as a jump booster, kind of like an actual trapeze.
The idea of individual traversal methods is kinda nice, but it needs more work.
The Arkham games were timeless, this on the other hand will be dated in no time.

I don't think so , the ither games won't I beat them I moved on . Here I can always come back and just go around the city or help out new players and I can play with different characters from previous playthroughs

Gotham knights has a good original story that allows you to play Nightwing, Red Hood, Batgirl, and Robin. Which my double team pair was batgirl and red hood (Read Three Jokers and you see why this is the best pair in my opinion).
And to make it even more eye catching they made the gotham knights team resemble a famous ninja team from new york Nightwing (Leonardo), Red Hood (Raphael), Batgirl (Donatello), Robin (Michelangelo)
Honestly if this same team made a Ninja Turtles game I'd be all in because I do think the DNA is right there - like you pointed out.
Leo, and Nightwing doesn't really match in personality. While Nightwing is the most optimistic, hopeful, friendly, and funny member of his familiy, Leo is very introverted, serious, dedicated, and strict.
But Raphael resembles Red Hood in personality, Batgirl matches Donny's intellect, and Tim has Mikey's optimism, and innocence.
Story ass boring

While the game mechanics are lackluster and the dialouge can feel like it's just being read off(performance wise), I LOVE how it did their characters, it really understood them. (At least with Jason, who's my favorite)
I enjoy the traversal, boss fights and all the customisation. However I miss the free flow brawling combat and predator stealth sections of the Arkham games.
Does it succeed on its own terms? Does it really make you feel what you wanted to feel when it was first announced? No and no. It's a failure.

For me, the mediocre voice acting doesn’t help this game either.
Batgirl is definitely the worst robotic awkward voice acting I’ve ever heard in a game. Everyone else in the game is bad but she was the worst my god it made me want to rip my ears off listening to her

I really don't care for the crafting not in a batman suit. Or have missions that unlock parts I hate the stats
I love Gotham knights maybe cause I’ve always wanted a game with nightwing. Completed it twice there is stuff to improve obviously
They said that other than one or two people this isn't even the same team that made Origins, so this is not only their first original game but basically this studio's first game in general and it's a lot more younger developers at most some having some experience from 2010's Ubisoft
That's rough with the very high bar that Rocksteady set not only with Arkham Asylum (which was also still their second game I think?) but then also raised higher by refining their game more and more with two sequels so it's really like comparing Batman and Robin in terms of experience (Their interview brought up this parallel) and I do not think that games inherently will be better just because they're newer
Of course that's on their side though, from our side in purely a how high quality of a product are we getting compared to others available for the same price I still like it enough as a batfamily fan that I've put in a good amount of hours in despite not being a motivated person and I'm still playing even though I've slowed down
I finished it last night (main story + some side missions), and my main praise is the story itself. The gameplay can get a tad repetitive but I LOVE how the story progresses.

I like the game but the movement system is extremely annoying. No jump button, input delay on everything, slow bike and time trials which are frustrating due to all of this.
The main story was interesting to me, the cutscenes and bonding moments were amazing especially since i played all 4 characters and the crime fighting was cool at first but it became tedious and outward annoying to me in the end. It was not fun fighting the late game enemies.
I love this game... I didn't get it when it came out cuz everyone said it was bad because of the frame rate... It doesn't bother me... Many expected this to be a Batman game... And they clearly showed you it wasn't 🤣💯
Regarding traversal:
The game actually has a rather serviceable parcour system, it just goes completely unused thanks to the omni directional grapple. Imho that is the single worst traversal choice. Robin's and Red Hood's special traversal are a close second though.
Speaking of which, Batgirl's glide is a worse version of the Arkham one. That would be fine if it was well integrated into a parcour system. Nightwing's is just creatively bankrupt, giving him straight up flight.
See, this game has a TON of issues, but in coop it’s still such a fun time :) glad to hear criticism from someone who isn’t just bashing on everything the game offers.
Why did the video cut out early
I wish I didn't buy this game. I spent 70 bucks and I probably played less than 10 hours and got bored

let me know if I'm the only person who feels this way, but they oversimplified the cast personalities? They feel more like cliche 80s cartoons than actual characters. Tim Drake is smart so he's ONLY the start one. Jackson is strong and angry so he's ONLY strong and angry. The game just looks generic to me. When the freaking Ninja Turtles have more depth maybe it's time to add a little more.

arkham set such a high bar. every super hero open world game is gonna be compared to it.
it's like how i feel the combat in say sleeping dogs isnt as good despite copying arkham's.
I think the combat specially with Knightwing pretty deep it’s button mashy but it’s when you hold the button at right time, then you do momentum abilities ohh my gosh! I had a lot of fun with Knightwing.. I beat it with red-hood. I beat it with nightwing just yesterday and now Robin. I’m not playing as a bad girl. I played her for 10 minutes. Her combat is trash! The style its not there! as like the others. I can tell I’m about to have fun with Robin! And Especially they showcased her way to much for me in the beginning!
I'm a bit afraid to dive fully into the video because I don't want to get spoiled and I just started playing the game. I think this game got too much hate just because it was overshadowed by the arkham series which is probably a masterpiece and probably my best game series (very close with DMC for me). I don't mind at all their new approach with the new combat, personally as a red hood lover I think I love this red hood gameplay a lot more than I did in batman arkham knight but I do think it could have been improved. Every dialogue being kind of different based on who you play it's a pretty nice touch aswell, the co-op side of the game it's interesting but unfortunately I never had anyone to play it with yet so I have no clue how the performance will be but it might be fun for sure, DC universe online vibes to some extent (exploring gotham, fighting goons).
I've heard that this game was buggy at launch, right now the only bugs i've experienced are only cutscene related (the motion is weird without vertical sync on in cutscenes) and when the subtitles flicker in the cutscene, anything else seemed fine so far or it was too minimal to even care about it.
The dialogues are obviously on the "family friendly" side, even with the kinky interactions with harley, but we have to understand the world we live in currently, how easily someone gets triggered and how easily someone get's canceled but that's besides the point, personally I enjoy the interactions so far and it feels natural.
The traversal is my biggest complaint, I dont care about the fast travel, I dont care about red hood jumping in the air due to some lazarous pit buff, all of this it's alright to me and it's whatever but I'm a biker IRL, seeing Red hood (who is well known ever since comics) to be THE BIKER of the bat family, driving on like 60 KM/h it's just utterly dissapointing (also the bike itself looks awful, I like the futuristic touch but they could have gone with a different design and it would have been better)
The mods are completely just whatever, they could have gone rid of the mods mechanic completely and it would have made the game better, the gear stuff with styles that's really cool and I enjoy all the options you have.
At the end of the day, after playing it for maybe around 15 hours already, I really enjoy it, I would honestly recommend it on a sale, BUT MAYBE, in it's current state (cause it was buggy as hell at release) and being a batman fan (and especially a Red Hood fan), I could see myself dropping 60 euros for this game so yeah, Highly recommend it on a sale, it is a solid 7 and you could maybe push it to 8 or even 8.5 once you get over the tedious interface and understand how to work with it and how the combat works.
The game itself from me complete it the first time overall it is fine average game with some good character interaction and decent look at Gotham City but with some big issues with missed opportunity with the combat,some ignore boss battle in it, and weird meh ending over the final boss all of this in my opinion so far
I knew this game was gonna be bad in my book simply from the fact that not one of the ads I got (and I got a least twenty to thirty) did not play properly and would nearly break my speakers.

Anyway, fair and valid points and opinions, it’s a shame that the Game didn’t turn out as well as hoped, but would you say that it’s good enough to be considered as a step towards the right direction, if they are going to continue?

I'm loving the game tbh. Even tho I'm barely able to play it on PC (I don't meet min spec on processor, but I do have a pretty close enough of a processor, and I meet min video), I am still enjoying it. Like, I love the gliding when you can unlock it. Which, btw, that's the only thing I hate about the game is that I had to unlock it. But when you do, Batgirl's gliding is great. I do have a couple issues, and that's kinda on me, I expected it to be alot more similar to the Arkham games and it's just not. Like the fighting, it's not as fluid in my opinion. It's not bad, by any means, but I just had these expectations of it being similar to Arkham Knight and it's not that. But that's on me.
I haven’t played it yet. I don’t have a next Gen console yet. But from what I’ve seen via gameplay walkthroughs, to me, it seems fine. Not that bad. Not great tho which is unfortunate. I was really hoping for the best for this game. Looks like I won’t be getting it for a long time.

To be fair... none of these heroes are as good as batman, even combined. There's not many heroes as good as batman. And I'm speaking based off movies, shows and comics
From the gameplay it looks like a dc Spider-Man combat game. And the grapple system doesn’t look good where having to jump enables the grapple instead of just pulling the Arkham grapple

God I hope WB games Montreal makes a Superman game instead of a game similar to this Gotham knights was a real disappointment for me I haven't even finished it yet! Instead I've played Batman Arkham City the whole way through!
Talk about failing upwards. Why would anyone trust that studio to make superman game? Let alone a hero like flash, greenlantern or any of DC character with a complex moveset when they fumbled the bag and none of their games have been well received origins was hated initially but people have come around but this game won't get that luxury with the number of superheroes games coming out soon.
The only studios I'd task with that task are Monolith and Rocksteady you know studios that are proven to be competent and have earned their stripes. The bag was fumbled hard with gotham knights.

@@JJS595 You've got to get street-level characters like batman, nightwing or green arrow right before moving onto speedsters, lanterns, magicians, Amazonians, Kryptonians or even teams like the teen titans or justice league.
I was loving the game but after a week in my game crashed for the 5th time and this time it wiped my save file, I lost my mind after that and haven't touched it since.( I was at the endgame and had everyone maxed out)

I bought this game, played it for less than two hours, refunded it and proceeded to play arkham knight for the rest of the day, in summary this game really makes you wish you were playing arkham knight.

It's the sole reason I didn't finish the game (and the absolutely disappointing and convoluted story plus the mediocre adaptations of most bat family members)

@@JJS595 Okay yeah that's a lie, the tank controls extremely well don't get me wrong, that part is true.
But Gotham Knights combat and cutscenes animations are phenomenal. The only for the most part animations are fine.
Be honest, you think it's better to buy GK over Saints Row or Red Dead Redemption
Neither can hold the jock strap for Red Dead Redemption, Red Dead 2 is great as well although it's a little too hand hold'y for me.
I think there is a retro ps2 vibe super hero theme look at the menu system. I think that's whats giving off the live servive fake vibes.
What ever happened to the rumored Arkham origins remaster?
Honestly I'm starting to think that it was wishful thinking or something because that rumor keeps coming up and there's no reason it shouldn't happen but they have been radio silent on it. It's frustrating because the game has issues on all hardware but it can at least be fixed on PC. On Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 it's really limited by the hardware and it's starting to seem like WB just doesn't care.
I literally had to force myself to finish the game after spending 70$ on this trash.combat is so clunky, and after trying to do the race trail it just highlights how bad the traversal is .
I love this game its great but one thing I don’t like it’s the big boss guys and the fucking drone people it just ruins my combos and it makes me just wanna get off lol.
I personally think you can't compare Gotham Knights with the Arkham games.
It's sorta like comparing GTA V to Fortnite, you can't, you can compare Warzone and Fortnite or Avengers and Gotham Knights or the Arkham games Shadow of War.
I'd go as far to say it's only far to compare a game to another game of the same genre.

the thing that is killing this game is fanbase and reviews if you ask me. i thought the game was amazing, But the thing that is happening is people have played a very good game/s which is the arkham series. Which i grew up playing and is top tier best superhero games, but people who have played gotham knights compare it to the arkham series. You can’t do that because it is two different games BUT if you don’t like the game then that’s completely okay. Now the review part, people are going to look at how bad the reviews are and when they see it they are going to be like, “wow this game is garbage”, and then there isn’t gonna be to be many people buying it and then we are going to have people who haven’t even touched the game to talk very harsh about it so there won’t be people buying the game. I’m NOT AT ALL saying this is a masterpiece game and there aren’t a lot of bugs/problems etc, but give it some credit.
People can and will compare it to Arkham. That’s how people decide whether they think something is worth their time and money.
The only credit it gets is the story and characters except that jason todd video game sequence with barbara. Other than that, it is very meh, bad and disappointing

My opinion on why it shouldn't be compared I'd just because its the first try with thier own game in thier own franchise and its coop not single player focused. I think there are fair reasons to compare it to arkham I just don't like whenever everything is going back to arkham. I personally believe its a 7 out of 10 and my reasons for that is while I loved the story I wanted to see more struggle in the group and a longer story it was too short to hold enough character development for me I wanted to see more with the court our 5 protagonists and the mob since they arent really explored in superhero games. Then the dogshit UI I've never ever had to look for the collectibles tab for more than 10 second because and still ended up forgetting where it is sometimes.

The overly negative reception is irritating since we just got 4 Batman games that royally fucked over anyone not named Batman or Joker and the one game that treats them all with respect, "failure" "not like arkham"

Despite all the negativity, now that I've played it quite a bit myself, it's actually not that bad it has potential but the main thing is will that potential be realized? With the way a lot of games have been in past years I'm extremely doubtful but obviously I welcome the chance to be put at ease. But again very doubtful lol, we'll see i guess 🤷♂️

I usually find myself agreeing with mainstream opinion on videogames, but I divert from most people on this one. I think this game was AMAZING. It has phenomenal replay ability because you can beat it four separate times with four separate heros. Playing arkham knight, I would only beat it twice in a row before I needed a break. I've never had a game that I could replay four times in a a row.

For me it‘s one of the best games in the last years, just finished NG+ and still loving it
Game is a fuckin 8/10. The co-op is great & the game could use some a few upgrades but it's solid .
