- Sequence Breaks are a staple of Speedruns. They're often what allow runners to make HUGE Jumps in time.. Like perhaps, a 4 hour time save? In this video, we'll be taking a look at one of, if not THE most broken glitch in all of LEGO gaming, one that only takes roughly 2 button presses to perform. I hope you enjoy!

I believe Lego City Undercover has a very similar skip, where you can go to the final level without even playing the first level

This reminds me of how Super Mario Sunshine speedrunners skip collecting the first six shines in Gelato Beach by collecting the eighth shine, which unlocks all previous shines, and then collecting the seventh shine, which is the only one needed for progression.
Absolutely incredible that otherwise unobservable mechanics get used in speedruns!
From an onlooker's perspective, I don't think it's a dev door. It looks like the bookshelf is the intended door for the bonus level and they just never unload the loading zone.
It definitely was at one point. In the original Batman show (which that level is referencing) the entrance to the Bat-Cave was a hidden Fireman’s Pole behind a Bookshelf.
Yeah, because you still need to walk behind the door to enter the level if you enter the level normally.
Yeah, that part confused me. The fact that he knows so much about the game, but not that that's where the loading zone always is for that level...

Fun fact, for a while the skip was misunderstood and people did level 4 for literally no reason. Also 8:15 is a big nostaligia hit.

@@bd1p Casually played through 2 entire levels that he didn't need to. Then I based my route off his and did the exact same. Cognaso only told us after my run that you don't need to do either of them. I held the record for about 6 months after that. Fun times.

The bookcase IS the loading zone for the actual level. It's just usually locked, and they didn't expect anyone to slip in behind it without opening it from the front. It's not a dev door or anything.

Yeah, I was gonna say this. It's normal for loading zones to be active regardless of whether or not the door in front of them is open.
Specifically, in this game, the reason there aren't loading zones active for all the other levels at the same time is that there are different states of the hub depending on where you are in the story. I don't remember exactly how all the levels are entered, but sometimes a vehicle will appear which you can jump into to start the next level, or a load which normally goes to another part of the hub will have a flag activated to send you into a level instead. It becomes impossible to enter those levels using those entrances later on, you have to use the level select. Plus, there are a bunch of story levels that can only be played from the level select in the first place. The only way the player is expected to enter any of those levels is either at the appropriate time during the story, or later from the level select. The bonus level, on the other hand, can be entered through the bookcase again and again and again, because the player is only able to open the bookcase after the story is already over, so it didn't make sense to deactivate the loading zone for any reason.
The 1966 Batman level is actually available right after completing the story, no saving Adam West in peril required. Great video though!
Kind of unrelated to the skip itself but Lego really missed out on calling them “mini figures”
I don't think it's a dev door, I think it was intended for the bookcase to open like in the TV show, and for you to go in there to start the level.
Yeah that was misrepresented, it's a normal level entrance which never gets unloaded
The confusion is understandable, though the is the only actual load zone that you can trigger prematurely in lego batman 3 (other lego games as well as other games in general have load zones you can trigger ealry though)

@@BaconNuke I'm pretty sure they understood why the time was cut down so much, I think they were pointing out the humor in the fact that the amount of minutes it now takes to beat the game is equal to the amount of hours it used to take to beat the game. Cool passive-aggressive comment though.
Actually, you don't have to save Adam West in all the other levels first. The only requirement is the other levels to be completed.
Sauce: Did a 100% playthrough bout a month ago, due to one of the saves requiring Poison Ivy and only her for some reason (who I had no idea how to unlock at the time) saving West in one the levels was one of the last things I did. Played the bonus level way before that
Spongebob Battle for Bikini Bottom Rehydrated had a glitch discovered like day one where you could skip to the final boss with all the moves needed to beat the game and roll credits, WR sits at a minute eleven seconds
A much smaller skip can be found in Harry Potter Years 1-4. Tom Riddlde's Diary can be skipped entirely by simply exiting the level, at the expense of locking yourself out of 100% completion because the level cannot be entered again afterwards.

@@Manavine Yeah. As a kid, me and my brothers discovered it on accident when one of us got softlocked in the area behind a wardrobe. It was on the Wii version, though I'm not sure if the bug is exclusive to it.
@@braydengraves4655 I believe it was patched on 360 and ps3. The wii version had like 3 or 4 nasty softlocks that prevented unlocking Voldemort and getting 100%

@@braydengraves4655 Its possible for a gold brick in the bell tower to not spawn when the puzzle is done, (this happened to me) and entering the dragon dungeon too early I'm hogwarts can lead to you getting completely stuck and any time you return to hogwarts you will still be trapped in the room. Another minor one is that its no longer possible to go to hogwarts after getting all 200 gold bricks, as the "continue story" option will always send you to nocturne ally to get you to do the Voldemort mission.
I don't think anything can beat ZOOL, where all you need to walk backwards and you immediately get warped to the credits

I personally think Lego Marvel Super Heroes beats Lego Batman 2 by a narrow margin. It got a lot of things right that Batman 2 got slightly wrong, and did a lot of other things a little bit better, mostly in the hub.

It's weird to hear Snolid Ice's name in a video essay. He runs a Rivals of Aether workshop tournament I used to play in. I knew he ran Lego games, but I never knew he held a WR.

Never have I played a Lego game that wasn’t buggy as all hell.
Except this isn't a bug or a dev door you are just loading an active load zone before you usually would (a lot of load zones just aren't unloaded ever for one reason or another) something speedrunners do ALL the time in even the most bug free of games frankly I'm surprised no speedrunner found this earlier (then again you'd have to actually do the level at least once in a casual run to realize behind the bookshelf is the trigger for the bonus level)
Never played Lego Batman 3 but.. bookshelf seems intentional since in the 60s show that is how they got to the Batcave, behind the bookshelf
So confirmed some speedrunners do not play a game casually before running it since in a casual playthrough and/or 100% run I would assume you would get to the bonus level in the intended way and know that it is just an oversight to have the entrance available at all times
Casual playthroughs wouldn't have lead you to that room, though. You gotta actively try to unlock the level, so most casuals probably have no clue about that level either

LEGO batman 3 is one of my favourite lego games because of the suits and characters.
While much smaller, Batman Arkham City has a huge skip where it takes you from when you unlock the Batsuit to the end of the game.

Hey can you tell Prnced he needs to check the forums on Lego Marvel Avengers? He's the only active mod and theres been a mistake on the formatting of the leaderboard for literal years, and there have been multiple forum posts about it, yet Prnced has done nothing. :(

Lego the force awakens also has a similar skip but it only requires the very first version, a dlc and it only skips to Starkiller Sabotage which means you also have to do the rest of the story but it saves a lot of time especially skips that one level where you open a door

I imagine the reason for that clip working doesn't have anything to do with dev shortcuts rather just that its load zone just doesn't get created when the room is unlocked and instead just always exists

There is a similar things to this in lego marvel superheroes 1 where mini characters can make most levels skippable with flying characters
That reminds me of the original marvel Lego game where you can fall through the open world area with Ant-Man and fly into the loading zone for the Deadpool level
One time on youtube I saw a 5-minute long speedrun of LEGO batman 3. at first I thought the original video was on twitch and this was a spliced version, but no. that's more or less how much time it took to beat it in the run using this trick.
Yup speedruns be crazy, but also speedrunners also be insane sometimes.. like some runs that are 100% are like over 24 hrs long and shit.. like i hope some of it is automated and the people can sleep and eat..

6:50 well from what I've seen of glitches and various videos breaking games as well as a very small bit of knowledge about making games.
For many games if something will ever exist in a level it's generally stored out of bounds either just outside where it will be/was or at the level origin point 0x,0y,0z and then moved/teleported into place when it is needed in the level.
This is done for various reasons but I'm pretty sure one is to make sure it actually loads in since it's always loaded in when the level loads it should never not appear when it should, I believe another reason is that it's easier to call on something that is already loaded rather than having to make a call to load it in and put it somewhere you just gotta put where it needs to be when the time comes and if it's gotta move just shift it away rather than tell the game to completely unload it.
someone else can correct me if I'm wrong about anything there, I'm not a dev but I find all that stuff interesting.

This is pretty much the same as the Outlast any% where the loading point for the final chapter is out of bounds in the first chapter

TSS speedruns are pretty dead, the game is super long, full of soft locks, and patch 1 ruined every skip. Unless something major is found, it may be a while

@@musk_operacji The freeze clipping trick is good in 5-7 for that. I have no idea if it's in 1-4, but a video on 5-7 would be cool. I've tried to sequence break in it and always met a dead end softlock though, so they'd have to be very careful if their goal is the end of the game.
There’s an amazing clip in one of the Spyro games that lets you skip straight to the final boss by ground pounding into the floor next to the loading zone. WR is just about a minute iirc
Must have been Year of the Dragon (which I haven't played yet) because both 1 and 2 had completely different hub worlds for the boss with several loading zones in between, and the ground pound mechanic wasn't even unlocked until the final world of 2, almost at the end of the game. 1 didn't have it at all.

Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam can literally be beaten in around 50 minutes because of how glitchy it is
I absolutely dislike changing categories. Any% is Any%, you can’t be mad people trying to beat the game very quickly end up beating the game very quickly.
In most games with a huge skip it's usually another category being made solely for playing without that skip. For example Any% NO AJS for GTA SA (AJS standing for Arbitrary Jump in Script)
Eh it is what it is some glitches just make any% not very fun to watch or play so I can understand why they would want to add more categories.
One of my friends is the only active runner of a very obscure free indie game called Treasure Adventure Game, and has singlehandedly discovered almost all the glitches used to skip most of the game. At one point, I think it was last year, he found a clip that was so hard to perform that he created a category split so he could still run any% without wearing out his hands. I think category splits like that one are pretty common in response to big discoveries in a specific game.

Correcting a small amount of misinformation about level 16.
1. The level only has 1 requirement, beating the main game
2. The loading zone for the level hasn’t been moved anywhere
lego dc super villains the level where you fight sea king. there is a chance he clips into the floor. if you hit him on that exact moment you instakill him. can beat it in less than a minute

What about Ocarina of Time Any%? You don’t even talk to the Deku tree and half the run time is taken up by the beginning cutscene.
i mention that in the beginning of the video. this saves more time because the current no levels early record is longer than ocarinas no wrong warps
so i just did this glitch myself and found out if you do the glitch then play the game till 100% you can only get 99.6% due to you skipping the plastic man side quest to unlock the hanger from mr.freeze lol good to know to do that quest next time before glitching out of bounds but pain in the azz for not knowing ahead of time

What about SpongeBob Battle for Bikini bottom? You can practically get to the final part of the game with 0 or 1 spatula/s without doing it the intended way
This is still a bigger skip timewise. IIRC BfBB only takes about an hour without the skip.
@@PriffyViole there is another game I know, crash tag team racing. You can glitch into the final world, and you can skip the jumpad requiring 20 crystals. This is a big sequence break as you can glitch into the final world from the start of the game, then skip the jumpad

This was patched pretty early on. You can't do the skip anymore, so that's probably why it's not mentioned
When I first played LEGO Batman 3 in 2014, after the first level or so, I could tell the game was **different** from the previous 2 entries, & by different I mean weirdly broken in strange ways
