Does Skateboard Wheelbase REALLY Matter?

- Lately I've been finding how important wheelbase actually is!
So in this video I go over the benefits of a short and long wheelbase and the considerations you need to make when deciding if you want to ride a skateboard with either a long or short wheelbase
What’s your perfect wheelbase?
14 with Ventures, 14.25 with Indys (43-44cm from axle to axle)
14.5 in with Independent.
I'll try 14.375 with Thunder-like trucks next.
I had a deck with steep tail and longer wheelbase (probably 14.75) that I was not able to flip consistently.
Street setup 14" with ventures or thunders. Tranny setup 15" with indy's or aces
Leon! Look at the ANTI-HERO GERWER GRIMPLE ASPHALT ANIMALS 10.0 TWIN NOSE SHAPE WHEEL WELLS.
10”x33.25 with a wheelbase of 14.62”nearly half an inch more WB than the Heroin decks. Anti-hero site calls it a twin shape.
Green giant for vert! 14.75-15 for anything less
As someone who is 6 foot 3 inches, the two boards that have been the most comfortable and helped me progress the most are the Andy Anderson Heron and the Anti Hero Orange Eagle (both 15 inch wheelbases). There is a lot of truth in the wheelbase / height theory for sure!
For sure man! I just wish I figured this out earlier 😅
That 9” Antihero is so good though!
I'm 6 foot 2 and wear size 13 and just got back to skating and used Andy's board at first but I immediately got better when I switched to a big heroin egg board
Its a lot of truth in it because it's not a theory. It's just fact. I've started skateboarding about 4 years ago and I have already picked up on a lot of these things. It boggles my mind skaters since the beggining haven't been focusing on their board specs universally other than there deck width. People who disagree are just stubborn and not willing to be open to information new to them.
Ofc it matters, #1 reason is feel fit and comfort, #2 reason is purpose as if you want to do more flip tech street skating or cruising or transition skating..
For sure man, I just wish I figured this out earlier! 😂
@@LeonPaxtonit's the same with trucks and what brand is good for what purpose.. I narrow down to Slappy and Venture, both are light weight compare to the other brands and Slappy gives me the most pop, has the most grind clearance, are quite durable, and turns as well or better than indys/Aces/Minilogo, while Venture are the most stable and great for street skating, jumping down things, tech and flip tricks.. I hate Thunder the most, because I ride tight trucks and you can't really do that with Thunders and they don't turn the best and though they are very light weight they are one of the least durable trucks for the money and they are low trucks and I don't get good pop with them..
Ill have to try slappys. Ive only slightly tried indys, thunders and ace af1. I actually like thunders stability and light weight. Indys turn great but almost to easy for me at the moment since im learning.
Yeah dude, I'm still loving my Slappy trucks! I've had a brand new set of Aces for months but I don't want to stop skating the Slappy's lol
🤔The wheelbase will not effect the pop angle...? Only the tail length will do that. Wheelbase greatly effects the front foot drag, post pop pendulum point and such as well the nose weight feel and of course turning radius and stability at speed, rotational (shuv) ease etc. but the angle the board is when the tail hits is dependent on the tail length and angle, truck axle position (brand) and truck height. Am I wrong here?
That definitely makes sense dude! I must have confused myself 🤦🏻♂️
A longer wheelbase shortens the tail
@@will-ht3mc Stand on your tail with your nose up, now imagine there is more wood between your trucks. What has changed about the length of the tail? Nothing at all.
I’m glad you made this video!!
I’ve been battling this my whole life. I’m 6’3 225lb. Size 13 shoe. From years of skating 7.75-8.0’s as a kid. To returning to skating now, and trying to choose the right set up. I’m gonna go broke, buying decks and trucks trying to find that sweet spot.
Currently on a 8.5 14.45 wheel base. Idk…I’m starting to spin out, not sure if I wanna move up to a 9+ width yet.🥵
Thanks dude, thanks for watching!
Haha I'm the same man, experimenting a lot lately has cost a lot of money 😂
I think you definitely should!
Im really impressed with your ability to switch up boards. I've ridden the green giant and the blue meany and theyre the reason i switched to shorter wheelbases a few years ago. Im 6'1" and im 3/4 legs but those two boards still felt sooooo heavy. Compared to you, i skate slower and dont pop as high so i dont think I'm in need of that extra board length. Every once in a while i flick after the end of my board, but its rare. And at slower speeds the short WB makes everything still feel fun.
Thanks dude! I just like to try all different things and have fun and I love sharing my experience so I can help other people figure out what is best for them as well 🙌🏻
That’s true, I can see that! I guess it really does just come down to what’s most comfortable to you and the style of skateboarding you’re doing
I just got on the 8.75 Egg after not skating for 16 years. I love it, addicted
That’s sick man, the eggs are so fun!
you're such an underrated channel, W vids
Thanks so much man, appreciate you!
I'm already having serious madness lately and this made me think I need a longer board. I'm 6ft and over 200 lbs. I thought shorter boards would be easier to flip but now I think I may need a longer deck with a longer wheel base because of my size. I'm gonna run up to the board shop today and see if I can't get this all figured out. haha. Great content!
Same dude, I'm going more and more mad each video 😂
Yeah dude, you would definitely benefit from a bigger board! Smaller boards are easier to flip since they are lighter but they are much harder to control and you can still do all of your flip tricks on a bigger board
I could watch and listen to you slide and grind for ages.
6’5” here. Last year I was riding a lot of 14-14.25 decks. Workeable but eventually felt a bit too small. I’m now on a trip towards longer wheel bases. I’ve started on 14.5 and will be there for a while before moving to 14.75 and 15 to see how I like it.
Haha thanks dude, I can slide and grind for the rest of my life and be happy 😂
That’s sick man, it definitely takes trying different sizes to figure out what works best for you. I wish o figured mine out sooner lol
@@LeonPaxton I have at least stopped buying different decks and having in reserve til I've settled more in on what I want. I still have some decks left in the 14-14.25 range left but I've started to chew into my 14.5 wheel bases. At the top end I have those Anti Hero Orange Eagle and Green Giant waiting for me.
Same dude! I need to set up all the boards that are still fresh and were only ridden a couple times. I've got a lot of decent decks I can experiment with by re drilling the wheelbase too instead of buying more and more decks each month 😅
Good vid! I knew nothing about wheelbase when I was younger skateboarding and even a 8 inch board was considered huge. It is nice to see people sharing good info like this! I started skating bowl and that really is the only reason I know anything about wheelbase hehe and your vid now.
Thanks dude! Yeah I don’t think anyone really paid too much attention to it in the past lol
At 5'9 i was skating that same orange antihero with the 15 wb, but didnt feel fully comfy, i measured my old board which i loved and funny enough, it had a 14.5 wb which is supposed to be the best for my height, set it up again and i love it
That’s sick man, it took me so long to figure out what wheelbase was best for me so lucky you found yours as well 🥳
I'm also 5'9, what size was the board? I'm stuck between if I want 8.75 or 9-9.2. I want a do everything skatepark board, mostly cruising, bowls and transition with some grinds and gaps.
I just moved up to an 8.125 deck with a 14 inch wheelbase. Being like 5’6-5’7, it’s perfect. All the size 8 decks I skated had a 14.25 wheelbase and it felt like I had to work harder on most tricks. The board is great for flat ground/technical skating if I skate a lighter truck and I have more landing room now. It also rotates easier for 180 tricks and stuff like 360 flips.
That sounds perfect for you man!
Nerding out about skateboarding. I love it.
I try not to go too deep but it really does make a difference lol
Idk of WB affects the angle of your board when it pops. Thats the fingers of flat between tail and truck and the shape of the tail. It does affect all the other things you said though. Great video as always.
Yeah I think I definitely got myself mixed up on that one 😅
Thanks for the call out though 🤝
I'm 6 feet tall but I'm pretty skinny, shoulders and hips aren't very wide, I just switched to a 14" wheelbase and a 31.5" board and so far it's feeling real nice. I think the width of your shoulders and hips def make an impact as well!
Oh damn! Thats very true then man, it’s all about what’s most comfortable to you and that sounds like it’s perfect for you 👌🏽
Good point.. I'm 6'2'' and not very wide in my hips/shoulders. I feel like my 8.5 14.325 wb 32" is a bit too long. Trying a 14.25 wb 31.8" (?) board next.
Just wondering how the wheelbase can modify the angle when you Ollie? 🤔 In my opinion, the length of the tail does.
You're right, I got it mixed up thinking of a board of the same length!
If 2 boards have the same length but different wheelbases then it would change the angle a lot but usually a board with a longer wheelbase comes with a longer length to be proportionate
The Green Giant is one of Anti Hero's best all-terrain boards. Works especially good on transition. Hopefully, they keep it in production for years to come.
Yeah dude, it was actually so good to skate once I got used to the shape!
I wouldn't mind riding another one in the future too 🙏🏼
So an interesting follow up to this video might be the Opera Sam Beckett boards. He has two 'Melt' and 'Dover' which are the same shape I believe. But they have a 14.5 OR 15 inch wheelbase. Could be fun trying both and seeing how it affects things! not sure how you'd grip it though :D
Side note, really enjoy the chilled vibes of your videos and the music choices you pick.
I’ve actually got my hands on one of the Opera doubled drilled wheelbase boards! I’ll be setting that up soon and doing a very similar video to what you just suggested lol
Thanks so much man, appreciate that a lot!
I love my smaller wheelbase. As you said, the potential for higher ollies is definitely reduced which is a bummer because I love to pop high, but I feel way more comfortable. Im about 5'8 1/2.
Yeah dude, it’s all about what is most comfortable to you so that sounds perfect 👌🏽
when I wonder about thinks like this, I always try to imagine extreme situations.
like, how good would you be able to turn with a longboard, compared to a mini skateboard and how would ollies go?
so, yeah... the longer the wheelbase, the slower the turn, but more stable on straights, while a short board will be much more snappy when popping, than a long board.
Exactly man, it all makes sense when you imagine the extremes lol
Thank you for making this video! I’m 6’3” and wear a size 14. I love the wider boards, but the wheelbases on these boards have me frustrated. I just got a Chems Wheelbase Mod Tool and have been hesitant to use it, but I’m going to extend my wheelbase now!
No worries dude, thanks for watching and commenting 🙏🏼
That's sick man, you will definitely benefit from a longer wheelbase! The only problem I can think of with extending the wheelbase in shortening the kicks but you'll just have to do a bit of experimenting to get it right 👌🏼
I dont know if I agree with your explanation. Most boards are close to the same length, so a shorter wheelbase will mean that the nose or tail will be longer. A shorter tail will give you more power as it takes longer to snap to the ground. If you want the same power from a longer tail, you will need to make the tail steeper.
Chems has a tool that you can use to redrill your wheelbase however you like it. If you got the 3/8 version and lengthened both ends by 3/8 you'd probably find those egg boards perfect.
I’ve been sussing that kit out actually but I just realised my Indy Stage 4’s have the 6 holes on them and the extra holes are 3/8 apart as well so I should be able to use those base plates to redrill my 14.25” boards and extend them to a 15” wheelbase! I’m going to experiment in that soon so hopefully it works out 🤞🏽
@@LeonPaxton yeah I'm 5 foot 9 inches so I use them to shorten the larger ones. I've definitely used six hole plates to redrill my nose to be a little longer.
Yeah I think I'll experiment with these trucks as a template first before trying the Chem's tool 🤔
@@LeonPaxton well that's a good idea, if it works and it makes them more skateable for you it would be great to have the tool. If it doesn't than you would've bought something that might not be useful to you.
I’m 6’ tall and 15” wheelbase is the magic number for me. The orange 9” Antihero is a go-to popsicle for me and the Heroin Mutant Eyeballer 10.25” is my favourite shaped deck, both with 15” wb. Anytime I try a smaller wheelbase it just feels dangerous for me haha
Same dude! I almost wish I never stepped up above that because that board is perfect lol
It definitely doesn’t feel as safe or comfortable on a shorter wheelbase!
That's a vert/ big bowl board for me 😂 keep up the good work Leon
Haha thanks dude!
I actually do prefer a longer wheelbase…. 14.5 to 15 is my comfort zone.. I don’t do flip tricks just grinds and slides so I don’t need to have a shorter wheelbase.. I have a few decks that are shorter but they do , like you said, feel squirrelly.. fun to ride once in a while but not my everyday …
Same dude! 15” just feels like the perfect size for me 👌🏽
Yeah long wheelbase is the way for you for sure then. You can definitely get used to a shorter wheelbase but I think it’s definitely better to keep skating the size that works best for your body and skating style 👌🏽
Hmm technically, a shorter wheelbase does not necessarily make the angle of the board at the tail popping. It's the length of the tail, kicktail angle, and the ride height which is decided by the axle height and wheel diameter.
But it does affect the FEEL since there is more material out farther at the long end of the seesaw, and these boards will generally be longer overall as well.
Yeah dude, I got mixed up with that one. I was talking as if extending the wheelbase on the same board without changing the length would decrease the lengths of the kicks which would give it that effect but didn't clarify that properly lol
Ben Degros explained wheelbase in a few videos really well a few years ago on his TH-cam channel . He is around my height (188cm) and he is quite comfortable with 14 inch wheelbase as I am (we started skating in 90s on 7.75 boards with less than 14 inch wheelbase, I guess our brains and muscle memory got wired into that).
You forgot to mention that trucks also offset the wheelbase (Thunder and Venture extend it the furthest).
I found that my most comfortable wheelbase is 43-44cm from axle to axle, anything bellow that makes board more flipier but less stable to land and everything above 44cm makes it harder to pop, spin and turn. Thunder and Venture gives you about half an inch more wheelbase than Indys, while Ace, Theeve and Destructo gives you less, Tensor is about the same as Indys (ATM and Low Maglight versions). To get the same wheelbase as 14.5 inch with Indys, you'll need 14 inch deck on Thunders or Ventures or 15 inch on Aces.
It might be also that the weight affects the wheelbase because we are much skinnier than you and Cordono, because it affects the center of weight and balance overall.
He talked about the truck part
Ben is the best!
Damn you guys are about the same height as me as well then lol
That’s true, you can definitely get used to anything if you ride it long enough.
For sure man! I briefly mentioned how trucks can effect your wheelbase but I feel like that topic deserves its own video comparing each brand and model to how the geometry is set up 👌🏽
@@jasonb993not talked, but barely mentioned, just independent and thunder
@@LeonPaxton after decades of muscle memory in skateboarding it's actually harder to switch to different boards, as you saw here. As we get older the sweet spot is only getting smaller and we start experimenting less with shoes and the equipment. Basically whatever takes time to get use to is a waste of time and energy as we get older and get more responsibilities. Same with the young folks who would progress much faster once they stick to specific equipment. Surely you can do many tricks with different boards but only a few feel like home, i hope you'll find it soon.
That's probably why I couldn't figure out how to nollie flip this thing 😂
That's true man! I love trying different things but I don't bother putting too much time into a certain product if it doesn't work for me. Back in the day we didn't have as many options either so we just had to ride whatever we had to the death lol,
it matters SO much, I'm short and got short legs but I got big feet, so I really like a 8.5 board with a 14 inch wheelbase, which unfortunately is very rare
For sure! I wish I discovered all of this a lot earlier though lol
Some of the Powell Flight boards go up to 17" wheelbase. They can do it because of the extra strength of the board. The only other way is to make the board wider (9"+) in order to add enough material to handle the stress.
Geez 17" wheelbase would be insane! That does make a lot of sense though 🤔
@@LeonPaxton Powell Peralta Pro JM Duran Slidewinder 4 FLIGHT® Skateboard Deck - Shape 266 K24
Here is an example of a 17" wheelbase... Their more recent releases are in the 14"-15" range, but yeah, inasane.
I’d actually be keen to try that loo
I put washers under my bushings to push the trucks out a little. 14.175WB 5'9"
That’s such an underrated hack!
14" wheelbase gang represent.
My homie in this video only rides 14” wheelbase as well lol
can you do a review on high trucks and low trucks for example like thunder mids vs independent highs
I can definitely add that one to the list man 👌🏼
im 6'3, i was looking at Anti-Hero Gerwer Grimple Asphalt Animals 10.0 Twin Nose Shape, 33.23 in long with a 14.62 wb. Anti-hero is made at BBS same as Heroin but not egg
I’m trying to get my hands on that board too man! I’m hoping it comes to Aus soon because it sounds amazing!
Anti hero makes a 10” symmetrical egg with a 14.6 wheelbase
Really?! I've never heard of that but I'm going to suss it out now 🥳
i bought a 13.5 inch wheelbase and that was the most comfortable deck i ever rode. it’s hard to find decks around that size
Yeah dude, I’ve never even heard of boards with a wheelbase that short!
How steep the board is when you pop doesnt necessarily depend on the wheelbase but the length/steepness of the tail and flat space between bolt holes and start of the kick. If its two boards pressed in the same mold, have same length kicks but with different wheelbase, its gonna be a different angle.
Yeah dude, I was speaking in general if a board was the same width and length with a different wheelbase than it would be different but I didn't clarify properly lol
Interesting. Thanks.
I’m 6’ and ride a 14.5’ WB. I’m not a big fan of 14.25’ which is pretty standard these days.
Thanks for commenting dude!
Yeah dude now that I've become aware of this, I don't think I'll be able to skate any smaller than a 14.75" wheelbase lol
Would like to see this test at a park with bowls/pools.
Got a 9.7-10 board with a 15 inch wheelbase(elephant board) and a 9.3-9.7 Real board with a 14,5 wheelbase, and recently bought a 33 inch 9,3 board with a 16 inch wheelbase, all those three boards act so differently when carving pools.
Havent really seen a video on that yet, great video mate
Thanks dude! Yeah that’s a good point actually. I might have to get another one to keep testing because sadly this one broke lol
@@LeonPaxton Fuck thats a bummer mate, im giving my 33 inch 16 wheelbase a spin in a few days
Damn 16” wheelbase would feel amazing in transition!
@@LeonPaxton it does, very smooth and long carves
Man. Skating pretty tech on that behemoth. I had the blue meanie and skated indy 159. What width and brand trucks are you skating on that? I thought maybe Thunder 161? Thanks.
Haha thanks man, I’m pretty comfortable on boards around the 9.5” range 👌🏽
I’ve got 9” Slappy trucks on this set up, these are amazing trucks too!
A board’s wheelbase is the most important consideration for me. Deck length, board width and the like is completely secondary. Wheelbase dictates how a skater stands on the board in relation to the trucks. For my skating, i prefer and 8.75 a 9.00” deck with a 15” wheelbase. Anything above or below even by 0.25 inch is a hindrance for me
I'm starting to see that more and more now as well man!
It matters for sure. Id been on 14.5 forever and got used to it but some things are really hard for me. I went down to a chocolate and girl boards with 14.375 and noticed flip tricks on flat and down things were way more massive and bolts with less effort and nose slides worked better. I went back up to 14.5 though as I can’t find any 8.5 inch with 14.375 wheel base in a mellow popsicle shape
You might check out the Powell Peralta 8.5 inch flight deck! Although it is pricier, it has very close to what you are looking for. Super mellow with a 14.375 inch wheelbase.
@@maxxthemelonheadthanks for the recommendation mate I don’t think I could bring myself to ride a Powell board though
Damn it sucks when you find out the perfect combo that you want but you just can’t find it!
Just got the grimple stix by anti hero gerwer egg. 10” wide, over 33” long, 14.66 wb
Damn! I’m trying to get my hands on that board too. Hoping it comes in to Aus soon!
Came here for this comment! Just picked this board up too and so stoked. My local had to special order 66 classic aces for me that I’m picking up tomorrow.
@Zakaweli what trucks are you setting up with it?
FWIW my daily driver is an anti-hero 8.25 on the DLX tru fit mold shape with an 13.88” WB.
@@EricMacam classic ace 66 are what I got just before the af1 drop
Not sure if anyone has mentioned already but you could look at extending the wheel base on ya fav egg's using a wheel base jig? ie. Chems
Yeah dude, I'm using the Indy Stage 4 baseplates with the 6 holes to try and re drill and extend my wheelbase but if that doesn't work out I'll suss out that Chems set for sure 👌🏼
Wow, lots of tall skateboarders in the comments. Another 6'3" one here, and I ride the Anti Hero Orange Crusher, 15" WB and 9.10 at it's widest point. The trucks you ride can alter your wheelbase a little bit too, that factor that in ( I ride Ace Classics, which will shorten the overall WB 'feel' thru the geometry).
Tall skater gang out here 🙌🏻
For sure man! Truck geometry makes such a big difference too. There’s so much going on in our setups 😅
I come from surfskate, so im used to 10" boards. I want a skatepark board mostly for transition, grinds, gaps, and bowls, but also to learn basic tricks, maybe small stairs and rails.
I'm 5'9 80kg and 39eu feet.
I think 14.5" WB, but should i get 8.75" wide or more like 9-9.2?
Yeah dude I’d say a 9” board would be great if you’re coming from such a bigger size already
How about redrilling some new front truck holes on the egg board?
I'm definitely going to be trying that soon 🙏🏼
Just wondering what size trucks you were riding and how well the slappy trucks held up.
These are the 9” Slappy trucks dude and they were great!
My favourite trucks in a long time actually
@@LeonPaxton that’s great to hear. I’ve been on the fence between slappys and aces for a while now. Especially since I recently got back on the board and I’m looking at wider setups. Not a fan of thunders or Indy’s since they always felt heavy to me. And rode some aces that were great but then I heard about slappy trucks and the whole grind clearance captivated me.🤣
I’m riding Aces right now but would say the Slappy trucks were better lol
I’m going to do a video comparison of them soon so I don’t want to give too much away but Slappy trucks are amazing and I have them on my other set up too
Check out the black label 9.5” “crutch” egg. It’s 32.5L and 14.5 wb. Not quite the 33x15 you’re looking for but gives me a bit more room on the deck than the heroins I’ve skated.
Thanks dude, I've got my eye on either this one or the Welcome 9.5" egg which is very similar 👌🏼
This great show has surprised my person with quient wave...
I'm trying to find a good wheelbase for myself. Just got back into skating, and I'm (give or take) 5'11", have Size 13 shoes (can technically wear Size 12, but there a bit too snug for my feet), and 200+ pounds (trying to lose weight, especially the belly fat lol). Can't decide if my wheelbase needs to be 14", 14.25", or 14.50". I'm also want to try bigger boards like an 8.5, but I want to learn more flip tricks. So, I'm thinking of getting 8.25 decks, but I'm not quite sure if it's right for me.
An 8.5" board with a 14.5" wheelbase would be perfect for you man! You can still learn flip tricks on an 8.5" for sure and you will have more stability and control over all 👌🏼
@@LeonPaxton Definitely good starting point! I'm also 5'11 but I'm a bit on the skinny side so I like having a 14.38 wheelbase since my hips and shoulders are more slim, with 32-32.25 in length being my sweet spot
I was watching a video n thought of this one.
Have you ever tried the Powell Flight JM Duran Slidewinder 9.0?
Length : 34.7"
Wheelbase : 17"
Twin Tail: 6.75"
It's a downhill board, but it might be fun for you to jam on at your height, especially since you've tried the wideboy n more out the gate models.
Damn, I'll have to check that one out!
@@LeonPaxton I was thinking you could shorten the wheelbase by half an inch n have a 7" twin tail with a 16.5 wheelbase
That could work 🤔
Maybe he ment ur board pops a wheely too easy if tall on a short base. Seems like alot pf people rocking bigger boards these days. Im just learning and 6'3. Started with a 8.25 amd stsrting to feel decend but def like am 8.5 under my feet. Is it beat to starter smaller to learn tricks and then move up when comfortable?
Possibly! Yeah dude, they definitely keep getting bigger and bigger lol
Well smaller boards flip easier only because they are lighter but you don't have a lot of control or stability standing on a smaller board so I would recommend getting a board size that feels fully comfortable to stand on and ride even if that happens to be a bigger board than you are used to because you will still be able to learn different flip tricks on it but you will also be a lot more stable on your board 👌🏼
im 5,34 foot tall and wondering which wheelbase i should use
Most 14 wheelbases
I need to put my feet more out to land on both trucks well
Try anything from 14.25" to 14.5" man 👌🏼
@@LeonPaxton im only 163cm tall/ currrently riding a 14.2 wheelbase
How does that size wheelbase feel?
@@LeonPaxton cant tell. The only thing is when i jump and land. I lend on one truck and the other one is slightly to far out. So i thought a shorter wheelbase could help me there
That's alright man, you don't always have to land with your feet on the bolts but if your foot is landing close to the end of the kick then maybe you need a little longer wheelbase
You should try ace trucks they feel really good on long wheelbase boards I’m riding some ace 55 classics on my 9in popsicle with a 15in wheelbase and it feels super snappy and I get really high pop on it I think you would like it
I’m very actually got some AF1 hollows that I’m looking to set up very soon! Having Hollow trucks might help the board feel lighter too since the longer wheelbase makes the set up feel heavier overall 🤔
@@LeonPaxton yeah I want to try some af1s after I hit axle on my classics or I just get tired of them I’ve tried every truck brand known to man except venture and slappy
I'm 6'4 and weigh 212lbs and I've been debating on getting a 9" antihero since they have a 15" wb. I know we've talked in messages on IG but I want to stay with thunder lights or standards. I ride 8.75 as of now. Should be too bad to move up a little. But my question is did you feel like you had to pop harder riding a set up like that? 15" wb on thunders?
Oh true, hopefully I replied because I’m hopeless on Instagram 😂
I didn’t feel like that at all man but I was riding Thunders for years before I stepped up to that 9” Antihero board. Once I did though, that board felt perfect to me so I don’t think it would have felt heavier or harder to skate at all. It felt like I should have already been skating that board
@@LeonPaxton you wrote back I promise. I totally understand life is keeping you busy. But I'm loving the set up I have and I finally stepped up my wheels to 54mm classics and it feels like a dream! But with that said I do need to get some 151's soon just in case i try out a 9" and for it to fit me riding an 8.75. I stood on an 8.5 recently and it felt like a 7.75. It's weird how a quarter inch makes a difference haha
Haha good!
Man that happened to me as well, I stepped on someone's 8.5" board recently and literally thought it was an 8" 😂
Now that I'm riding closer to 10", a 9" board is going to feel like an 8" soon lol
@@LeonPaxton oh man I can imagine haha. Once my 8.75 is done I'll jump up to a 9" but I need to get some 151's as it is haha
Yeah I loved riding Thunder 151's on my 9" popsicles too 👌🏼
Are you using the Indy stage 4 on this board? How wide are they?
Nah dude, I'm riding the 9" Slappy trucks at the moment
Independent has many wheelbases depending on the model. Its not good idea to think there is one indi wb. But generally I agree.
That’s true, I feel like the Stage 11 is the most common Indy and was thinking about that and just didn’t mention which model lol
I’m 6’3, I don’t really mind smaller boards or shorter wb but I do have some bigger ones in the queue. I do like 15” wb on transition
Yeah dude, that would be perfect for transition! I can’t imagine why a smaller wheelbase would benefit transition skating 🤔
@@LeonPaxton i like the shorter for street, longer for transition
I can see that working 👍🏽
My Heroin egg board has a 14 and a half wheel base. And my smaller egg from another company is 14 inch. Eggs are fun.
Sick, Egg boards are the best!
What brand is the other egg board?
@@LeonPaxton The other Egg is from a local board company in my community called Comacan skateboards.
@LeonPaxton The other Egg is from a local company in my community called Comacan skateboards 🛹
AntiHero also had the blue meanie that could suit your needs ?
I did see one of those but it’s only 8.75” wide right?
@@LeonPaxton yes but I think it has a 14.75 wheelbase
Damn that would be perfect on a wider board!
The Antihero Huffer is a pretty good sized board 👌🏼
Ride an 8.25 board, 14"wb, and sadly 31.9 long (im 180cm height), the board its super light but i think its tu shirt for me, and other board is a deathwish 8.475 with 14.5wb, and it feels super secure on slides and grinds, but it feel pretty heavy, so yo skate less it took a lot of energy at the nd of the day
Yeah dude that makes sense. It’s hard to find the perfect board isn’t it lol
33x9.5 with 15wb symmetrical egg shape? is that what you're looking for?
Yeah dude, do you have that shape!?
if you want I will have it made, just let me know
@@LeonPaxton 33.25x9.5 symmetrical/twin tail with 15wb is whats coming out ? any changes you need?
Check out anti hero cardiels huffer shape too. True egg, not symmetrical but 14.8” wb
I actually have that board! It felt really good to skate but now a 9.1” feels so small to me 😅
I feel like I need at least a 9.5” now or it just feels too narrow lol
@@LeonPaxton I feel ya. I wear a 14 shoe US
I guess i need to try a wider and longer board. I feel like some times when i ollie my foot likes to land way far up the board. Fpbut for. Iw i got a a Crailtap couch board and its for sure a good feel coming off of a 8.25. My local skateshop sells 9" popsicle shop blanks in should give the, a whirl. I just have been always riding the same board but i never thought to look at wheel base and i didnt know indy trucks sit in more.😅
That could be it then man!
Yeah there’s so much that can influence the way your set up feels. It just depends what feels most comfortable to you though man
@@LeonPaxton so i went and did it!
i picked up a (9”W X 15” wheelbase)Im liking the larger tail already just more room to stomp my foot. I wear a size 11.5 to a 12 so. Im kind of excited to try this board. I honestly never thought to try somthing different. When we were kids (Bam Jackass Era) lols Nyjahs just got into middle school. Haha i remember when riding an 8 inch board was like woah. And there was some many sizes in bewteen 7.5 and 8 and it wasnt weird to find an 7.9 board . With every company. And i think Around that Time Flip was like the Company to ride for. And then Baker 3 came out and just killed the game.
Sick man, that's such a good size!
Haha yeah dude, even 8" seemed big back then 😂
Damn 9.75 bro is skating surfboards 😳
How does he flip such a huge board
I skate a 7.75 deck and I am 6’2”
Say it with me the smaller the board the less effort to flip the board
Haha yeah it sounds intense but it just feels so good to skate!
Those egg boards flip pretty easy with the razor top ply, the shorter wheelbase and the tapered kicks 👌🏽
For sure man, they are a lot lighter too so flip super easy!
Wait? Is there some kind of French influence on skateboarding? Wheelbase for vehicles for the rest of the world is from the center of the front axle, to the center of the rear axle. Why be different?
That is correct but we measure it from the bolt holes on a skateboard because we buy the deck without wheels on them so it would be too hard to predict what the wheel base will be before we attach the wheels to the skateboard lol
Check black label too, they have big boards, eggs, big wb
Black label definitely have some good looking egg boards!
You got thunder and Indy backwards. Thunder shortens the wheel base and Indy widens your wheel base
Nah man he's right. Indy axles sits a little further in as opposed to Thunder.
@@angusskate69 I second guessed myself for a second 😂
Paul Schmitt agrees with Leon
More like I agree with him lol
Bro look up the grave digger vx board by creature has a 15 inch wheel base it’s light and skates lovely
Thanks dude, I’ll suss that one out for sure!
belt grinder , you can easily make that board an egg shape
100000% it does. Width doesn’t matter as much
I wish I started figuring this out earlier 😅
Drill ur own wellbase to what u like
I just tried that on the board I'm riding now and it didn't turn out that well 😂
I'm trying again on my next deck though 🤞🏽
dude how tall are you? almost 100 kg and skinny like you it's gotta be like close to 2 meters?!
I think I'm about 190cm so yeah pretty close lol
@@LeonPaxton so what would you say your ideal wheel base is? i say this as i am 182cm myself and im currently in this journey of finding the ideal one for me. so far im pretty comfy around 14.3 but im curious of going longer while might initially be weird to get used to it would end up being more natural
The most comfortable board I've ever skated is the 9" Antihero Classic Eagle (orange) which had a 33" length and 15" wheel base. These days my favourite size is around a 9.5" on an egg board but I just can't find any with a 33" length and 15" wheel base lol
I'm just on a long journey through all different sizes to. find what works best for me but I don't think I'll ever find the 'perfect' set up 🤷🏽♂️
I love my space egg 2
So keen to try it!
I actually prefer tre flips on a square tail
They actually did feel a lot better than I expected 🤔
When the Paxton speaks. Y’all listen
Haha thanks dude!
Your dreams are answered. H have just released a long egg
I really hope I can get one 🤞🏽🤞🏽🤞🏽
Anti heros are the best for me being 6foot 2
They are!
Wow man,it's look like plane carrier
It is kinda big in today's standard 😂
I like 13in wheel base you can flip the board faster swear to god
That board would flip and rotate well for sure!
You know you could just ask Chris from Death Breath to make you the perfect board…
Just saying 😜
I think I need to for sure!
Scooter kids 😑
i actually just ordered the anatomy of a wide boy and some independent 215s but just as you mentioned i may be swapping them for some 181 thunders if i can get ahold of a pair unless slappy drops a 10 inch truck
Dude, I want that board so bad! It’s a 10.4” right?
Oh man, Slappy 10” hollows would be the best trucks for that board 👌🏽
@@LeonPaxton yup 10.4 and 10 over the trucks. and those would be the perfect truck for without a doubt. thinking of snagging a set of snot wideboy wheels to go with it
Damn those wide boys might be a bit too much for me though 😂
