    This is one of the best color grading videos in TH-cam I have seen. No wonder why the algorithm suggested it to me.
    I learnt so much out of it... the tips your shared.. amazing.. I have seen many tutorials about color grading but noone told about the technical luts from Sony. Absolutely brilliant.

    Big fan of these kind of videos mate, always great to see other peoples workflows for grading. Second your thoughts on FCPX needing custom titles on each grading layer, it would make such a difference, it's easy to lose track of what you've done if you're switching between projects!

      @dylanjohndickerson  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@rajeshrai5518 both definitely have different uses. S-Cinetone is clutch if color grading isn't really that necessary for your video or you don't really have time to grade. It has a natural look that looks great straight out of camera and usually requires little to no tweaking. S-Log is beneficial if you want to color grade and get the most out of your footage as possible. Like I talked about in the video, shooting in LOG allows you to capture the most dynamic range possible out of your camera's sensor. It will allow you to better capture bright highlights and dark shadows in one image. The downside is it requires you to spend time grading it (although you could just slap a LUT on there).
      So S-Log...more time grading.....but best possible image and more control of grade in post
      S-Cinetone....less time grading.....but not as much dynamic range in your shot.

It would be cool if in the future you could provide us with a download link to the raw footage you're using so we can edit along with you. 14:36 Renaming colour corrections - This would make things so much easier wouldn't it (Come on Apple). How come you didn't adjust skin tones with your mask/HSL method? Cheers for the quality work.

      Ah damn, I was actually going to do that, but I forgot. I'll put the link to the raw file when I get the chance. And I didn't use that method because I've found it just takes a little longer and I wanted the adjustment to affect my midtones as a whole. Maybe in the next one I'll use that technique. Thanks for the feedback/comments! Cheers my friend!

    Hey Dylan, great work as always. Coming from a Photoshop background, the part I missed was how you isolated each of the effects to various parts of the video without a mask (the tree). When I use multiple color wheels it seems to affect everything. Suggestions?

    • @dylanjohndickerson
      @dylanjohndickerson  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey! Thanks so much. So I think what you're looking for are the HSL curves. That will allow you to change the saturation, brightness, or hue of any color you choose. You wouldn't use the color wheels for what you're saying. I hope I understood your question.

    • @dylanjohndickerson
      @dylanjohndickerson  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yo Andrew! You’d add a Phantom LUT in place of a technical LUT. Phantom LUTs, like the LOG versions of my LUTs, convert to Rec 709 automatically. Now, you may need to tweak your exposure before you add the LUT so that LUT fits better. Generally, you’d want your shot to sit pretty center on the Luma waveform before adding the LUT. If you try and change the exposure after applying the light, it’s not going to work the same.

    • @andrewscot5204
      @andrewscot5204 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@dylanjohndickerson ok great. So I’ve been putting the LUT in the right place but I’ll fix exposure first this next edit. Again, thank you so much for taking the time to explain, keep the great content coming!
      Btw, I’ve had Cinema Grade for a couple years and it’s been good in many areas but I’ve been thinking about picking up Color Finale 2 (especially after watching your last post about it). Thanks so much, Luca! Hmmm a constant Autumn look...well it wouldn't be a complimentary color scheme. It'd probably be an analogous one, with red, orange, and yellow. So if you're at a park, perhaps adjusting the leaves to be more yellow if possible, adding warmth to the overall grade, and tweaking other colors to fit that color scheme.
