Review: 2022 Genesis G80 Sport - Impressively Well-Rounded

- I spend a week with the new 2022 Genesis G80 Sport Prestige to see how Genesis engineers have spiced up the already-impressive G80. In Sport Prestige trim, it now gets 4-wheel steering, an AWD system with an e-LSD that can send 100% of power to the rear, along with the usual upgrades to the brakes and adaptive suspension. Overall, it makes for a very dynamic package that will surprise and impress most enthusiasts on a back road, while also impressing passengers with its ride comfort and luxury in ordinary driving. It doesn't come cheap, with an as-tested price of about $70,000 but this price is still $7,000 cheaper than all its German competitors, continuing with the great value proposition that Genesis has become known for. What do you think about the 2022 G80 Sport? Thanks to Genesis for providing this vehicle to review!

I own a 2021 Genesis G80 v6 tt 375 hp Prestige..had it for about a year...get about 23mpg in the city and close to 30 mpg on the highway at an average speed of 75 mph. Mileage is much better than you reported on the 2022 Prestige sport model you tested. great car and a lot of fun to drive.
well there ya have it, real time testimony
My highway driving over a 200 mile trip averaged just at 31 mpg between 70-75 mph.
The updated G80 looks great! Stay warm, Matt.
Thanks Kirk! You too!
Loving the new Genesis interiors across their entire lineup now! Wish they'd differentiate the Sport model even more, not a fan of the waffle-wheels. I test drove the prior-gen G80 sport it was heavy, but fast and looked good.
I'm looking forward more to the G80 electric now
Genesis is really stepping up their game, take a look at genesis from mid 2010s to now is insane!
Very true. The first genesis looks like something from a completely different company at this point.
Definitely
Lol look at almost any car from 2010 and now and it is insane
Owned a 2019 G80 Sport and test drove one of these today it made my 2019 feel like a Sonata. The ride and handling and transmission have been greatly improved. The 2022 sport prestige is the best driving car I have ever driven.
looking forward to mine. I'm luxury bias not overtly looking for speed racer type car.
@@thomaswattle9828 Got my G80 sport prestige a week ago 600 miles on it already just love the car more luxury than sporty but under 5 second 0-60 and with suspension in sportode and rear wheel steering it handles like a car 6 inches shorter and 500lbs lighter its pretty amazing.
Matt, As I have said before, the loud front, 'sardonic grin' appearing grille is too much for me; and I see Genesis added ostentatious wheels. The gasoline mileage for twin turbo and this large luxury car is what I would expect, especially with the hills you drive on in your area. I generally like Asian vehicles for reliability and value, however, this front fascia lacks refinement and the subtleties of elegance; it is "distinctive" as you point out, though we differ on whether that is a positive or negative. Your press car is a beautiful blue color. I hope others appreciate the beauty of the scenery (I'm serious), the hills and snow, and ambience is a good feel especially since it is somewhat unique to your channel. Thank you for another great car video.
Thanks Jazz!
According to the Genesis website, the standard 3.5T Sport comes with an 8" cluster, and the Prestige comes with the 12.3" 3D cluster.
Yep!
Also has digital key tech use you phone as a key also provides the key fob abilities with an app
why doesn't genesis integrate the emblem into the huge naked grill and hide the obvious sensors with the emblem? maybe it's just me but seems like way too easy of a fix
Gorgeous car. The electric variant should br called G8E.
This is the model I've been waiting for. A few issues, the interior colors are limited and there is no wood trim option anymore. That regular beige is just so tiring for an interior color. Need to drive it and see if there is a big difference over last year's V6 version.
The way you feel about the Beige interior.. I feel about the Black interior😒.. I love the Beige..
Please bring the Tau V8 back and really have an legit sports sedan.
I live and work in Korea and almost ordered a new G80. I ended up getting a 2022 Lexus ES300h due to gas mileage and comfort factor. I often wonder what I'm missing by not getting the G80. Maybe next time?
Maybe next time
This G80 Sport seems like a solid option. Too bad a performance tuned version of this engine isn't in the G70 yet. If I was in the market for a midsized sport sedan this would be on the list
I love the G70, especially the 2022. However, since I just got my Bronco, if and/when I get tired of it the G70 will be my next car. Also, this G80 is freaking awesome too.
@@desertmike680 yeap, that facelift was perfect for the G70. Congrats on the Bronco!!! They are pushing pressure on the Wrangler, competition is good the consumer
@@timw2083 yes they are and thanks! I'm starting to see a good amount of Genesis's on the road here in Vegas and I have to do a double take!
I have the 2019 G70 and I love it! What an amazing car. However, I’m thinking about trading it in for the G80!
These are going to be a steal once they hit the used car market.
Here in Indiana Used Cars are going for about the same price as a brand new car of the same model.

This pandemic has really thrown a wrench into vehicle purchases where the dealers have all the power and there’s no need for discount because there’s no inventory.
@@cedrick305 oh no doubt, my Wife works at a Lexus dealership. If you want a New Car it could take Months to get so the Used Cars on the Lot are now at a Premium.
@@cedrick305 I want a low mile 2018 Honda Accord 2.0 but I’m not paying 30k for one
@@jonmcclane7433 can’t believe how bad the market has gotten.
why does it say 5 on the key fob ?
Would you compare this to a Lexus GSF? Which one would you prefer?
They're hard to compare because they're from different generations of cars. The Genesis is a better luxury car, more comfortable and of course all the new tech. The GSF had dated tech even when it was new and had a sportier mission so it's a stiffer ride too. The n/a V8 and the simpler handling tech (no rear wheel steer like the Genesis for example) makes the GSF the more raw choice, but for daily livability I'd rather have the Genesis.
@@MattMaranMotoring This is very helpful, thanks so much!
What color is this car?
Genesis is essentially the only Asian luxury brand in existence now. That’s not an easy feat but they did it
😂😂😂 Acura, Stinger and Lexus won’t appreciate that. 😂😂😂
@@TA-ht4jo Lexus is practically nonexistent at this point
Acuras not a true luxury brand but they’re getting closer to it
This car is Capri Blue I am assuming or is it Tasmin Blue?
Wondering the same thing.
@@misssdmj Pretty sure it is Tasmin Blue. Having seen both colors in person I prefer the Capri Blue by a large margin.
I love the Tasmin Blue. I can't find the car I'm looking for anywhere.
Want 2024 G80 2.5 Prestige in Tasmin Blue, but I'd settle for Seville Silver.
how frustrating would those wheels be to clean?
no harder than other comparative models
@@thomaswattle9828 every one of those indentations would get dirt in it and be a pain in the butt
Previous body was much more aggressive looking.
LOVE THIS CAR BUT two things: First, no folding rear seat?! Really??! What were they thinking? And, two: The gas mileage is deplorable. This gets the same EPA average mpg as the twin turbo V8 in the M550i xDrive. The much faster M550i (x-drive) with a twin-turbo 4.4L V8, pumps out 523hp, and gets 17 city and 25 hwy. The 3.5L Genesis G80 AWD gets 17 city and 26 hwy. Both average 20mpg.
Cleaning those wheels, MIGHT be a pain lol
No doubt, I’d probably powder coat them to make them last and make cleanup easier.
If only V8 😩
G90 has the 5.0 L
The only thing missing here is a liftback version --
Then you truly have an A/S 5/7 Audi competitor!
This car doesn't compete with any AMG or M sport models. This competes with the 540i and E450 and the milder AMG and M models do not break your back either when it comes to their ride.
Genesis itself advertised in Korea that it's meant to compete against Mercedes E class, not AMG nor M models.
Nice Genesis, but those rims are awful
The new Genesis Plug in EV is better.
Gas cars are so 2000 and late
Hahahaha
🤣🤣
I don't like the rims. They look like a skin disease.
blends with the grill
