Broken Hand Drill Press Restoration

This hand drill press belongs to one of my friends' grandfather who passed away recently. He asked me if I can restore it and of course I jumped for it.
This drill press was broken and stuck. To make a good restoration, I had to work hard.

Rengi orijinaline sadık kalmak için bu şekilde boyadım. Tablayı da boyama niyetim yoktu aslında, zımpara yapıp üstünü düz metal bıracaktım ama kaynakla doldurduktan sonra renk farkı çıktı, o görüntü de hoşuma gitmedi ve boyamayı tercih ettim. Videonuzu merakla bekliyorum. Başarılar dilerim 🙂

Nice job. Only thing I would have done was to weld up the elongated holes in the drive shafts and re-drill them. The play between the gears and shafts will cause premature failure of the pins, which was part of the fault in the first place. 👍

The drill press table is not to be painted. It's a plane cast iron surface that is ground flat. Painting introduces irregularities and you lose perpendicularity with the drill centerline.
The drill chuck is not to be lubricated. It runs dry so that chips to not accumulate in the mechanism and jam the movement.

My intention at the beginning was not to paint the table, after welding the holes there was color difference so I thought it would look better if I paint it. Since the parts were rusty at the first place, it would be better to put some lube on those metal parts which are not painted, in order to prevent further rust. Thanks for watching 👍🏻

😣 Instead of warning us ~ please put a welding tint/filter over the camera lens = saves us from being blinded by the arc and extends the life of your camera 🙂

@@kerras72 - 🙄 yes, you are right, but it is unpleasant to look at 😣 and as a commenter on another video said, it can shorten the life of the camera sensor = like with our eyes ~ never point a camera at the sun/any extremely bright light as that will slowly damage/degrade the photo sensor in digital cameras
