I love your videos! I’m not subscribed on many channels, but yours is like a “must have” thing for me. When I make my first dollar as an Interior Design, I will make a donation to support you.
This tutorial is really helpful. I was beginning to think SketchUp lacked many of the basic tools offered by AutoCAD, but this video proves otherwise. Thanks. I'm still trying to grasp the 'stretch' tool in SketchUp though.
Man, this was such a time/lifesaver!!! I had a fairly complex structure that I wanted to mirror/invert, and just when I was thinking I would have to do it all by hand, I found your video. The -1 Scale tool is miraculous!!! :D
Thank you so much! I kept trying to use the rotate tool and had trouble getting it to get the proper axis and get it to spin the way I wanted. It was driving me crazy! I've got some convoluted models that I started before I learned more about Sketchup and I'm thinking of starting some of them over because I had so much trouble getting things to line up properly. I'm trying to do a good model of a space in my house to help me visualize the remodeling of it. This is making things much easier-- although I'm still struggling to make complex curvy objects since I need to update in order to install extensions. I'm currently trying to install the latest version of Sketchup but it's taking forever to load because my internet sucks. LOL. I am sorely tempted to abort and get a friend to download the non-internet version for me to put on a thumb drive and then install it.
How would I use this to create a rafter? I make one rafter for the left side of the roof with the 2 end angles and the notch for the birds mouth. Then I copy move the rafter and try to flip it but because it's angled things get weird. How can I just create a mirrored rafter on the other side?
In your first object, once you have created a mirrored copy, how do you get rid of the line in the middle? I tried erasing the line on both halves and I ended up losing the surface for each half of the mirrored objects.......it's real pain!!! Any thoughts?
s ever Justin, you are my goto help. My only query is; flipping and mirroring is great but when I come to joining the two compound shapes by erasing the joining line (flip axis) it erases each of the planes?
Great video as always. Thanks. I should get that extension for mirroring off axis. I mirror so often I custom mapped that to a keyboard shortcut per axis to skip wasted time on menu stuff. If I had more buttons on a gaming mouse, I might map to that instead. With 50 to 100 uses of this a day some jobs, keyboard or mouse shortcuts are the way to go. Leverage the 80/20 rule and blast through those everyday productivity tasks.
I can't figure out the component thing. If I make a copy and then rotate it or choose "flip along" both of them flip or rotate. I made one side a special color so I can see what happens but I can't manipulate one of them separate from the other. Any idea what I'm missing?
Hi there, i seem to be not finding a lot of the options mentioned in your videos on my version of sketchup, what version are you using? mines Mac version 2021, does that matter?
Using the extension for a simple mirror command will be the perfect beacuse even if you flip it it may not be exctly a copy of it, it may differ in size..
that mirror ext looks nice. it may help me with my assignment. Now you should do a tutorial on how to make parts using the solid tools. I made a video last month, have not posted it. About how to use a cylnder as a drill bit and to cut holes in other components. Solids in SU are nice and using solid inspector for 3d printing is even better.
Nice lineup here. (Did you wittingly omit the Rotate Tool as a means of copying and rotating? Can be exceedingly handy!) If only the creators of SketchUp would include another set of choices under "Flip►", namely "Model's Red/Green/Blue Axes" and a fourth for "Selected Axis". Would speed up work so much... something the devs don't seem to place much emphasis on, sadly.
Do you mean the rotate tool? You can't edit geometry with the protractor. Also, the problem with the rotate tool is that it just rotates - it doesn't actually flip anything so you're not getting a true mirror (there are workarounds, but they're complicated)
@@VideoNOLA You are correct - you didn't say the rotate tool - you said the protractor - the protractor just measures angles and adds guides. Not the same tool
Oh my gosh, is this cool or what? YEAH! Now, I've been a SketchUp user for way too long to have forgotten a couple of these tips, but I'm suffering major brain fart this morning. Well, my laptop has been broken for quite a while and I have been sick, so maybe that's why I could not remember how to flip along an axis. Yeah, I think I'll go with that. : - )
I ve been watching lots of scetchup tutorials but yours are undoubtedly the best! Many thanks
The ability this extension gives you to flip objects that are not on one of the three axes is really useful. As always, thanks, man.
Yep - thanks for taking the time to watch!
You are my idol! Anytime I do a search, if one of your videos comes up, I am definitely watching yours! THANK YOU!
Thank you! :)

You did a genius tutorial.. To the point.. Thx 😊
thanks , really helped me fine the flip option under right click
I watched a few of your tutorial videos, thanks for your help for us beginners🙏🙏✌

FYI from 2023, the contextual menu option to "Flip" is gone (unless I'm missing something) so you have to use the "Flip Tool" specifically.
Thank. love your work. you just saved me hours or drawing with that negative scale
Very useful tutorial! Specially for beginners

works like a charm for when making double staircases on the web app!

heads up, March 2023, it appear SU got rid of the flip from the right click option, but the Large Tool Set toolbar has it. thanks for the videos!
What version of sketch up are u using man ? Or web based prof ?

I pretty much always use the scale tool - it's just kind of reflex for me, but whatever makes you faster :)
thanks bro , u got my subs !
Thanks man, another great tutorial as always!
Thanks very much!
Thank you so much again your my hero!
When u used the components in the second design ...how will I mege the 2 into one solid thing ( the one that is flipped )

In 12 yrs of using sketchup, the only method i know is flip by axis LOL!
i didnt know u can do it by scale tool!
thanks for this man
👍
Hi. how are you. I would like to know if how can you flip object that is diagonal and symmetrical. thank you.
sketchup is life saver

I can't chages in components, how you do that.. Can you please tell me whata is active extension (blue colour box shape one)
I don't understand what you're asking...
Using scale flip option how to maintain the same size
I Always use the mirror extension.
Super useful! Thanks.
Glad you liked it! :)

Maybe these will help - th-cam.com/video/FqBC9GIeZc0/w-d-xo.html , th-cam.com/video/qCH9qa6jhaQ/w-d-xo.html
There's also Curic Mirror. Similar to TIG's MIrror but faster to use in some cases. And it shows a ghost outline of mirrored entity.
Will have to give this a try - thanks!
Very helpful. Thank you
Thanks for watching!
Ty 'tin!!!

@@Thesketchupessentials Yeah, the Rotate tool copies things when you press Control (in Windows).

I tried flipping with scale tool but cant get accurate,
Very nice tutorial, my friend...
Thanks very much for watching!
What's the difference between components and groups
Old video, but it should give you some idea - th-cam.com/video/dBRL_fscukI/w-d-xo.html - May have to make a new one
very helpful!
Thank you!
that fact that sketchup doesn;'t just have a mirror tool is such a glaring oversight it calls into question the developer of the software.
It has one now

it"s awesome! help me a lot~! thxss
Cool - glad it helped!
Great video, thanks! I don't see the TIG extension - is it still available, and does it work with 2020?
Why cant flip component, if using custom flip shorcut
I'm not sure what this means...
There's no flip along in sketchup right click menu
1 minute in ---question answered.Must be a record in TH-cam videos
2.5 years later, people still complaining about free information on the internet - unfortunately not a record...
ДЯКУЮЮЮЮЮ
No flips in SU 2013?
❤️❤️

why always teh same intro. cant you just say it normally or not say anything and just...idk...start a turorial?
Kicking off a video without asking people "What's Up?" Clearly not my style 😂
i wish you would just talk normal great content !! but ahhhggg the hype gotta go!
...hype? Lol - I'm not sure I'd describe anything I do as "hyped" unless there's some kind of a cool new feature
2nd way helped me tremendously thankyou
Awesome!
