Poor bastard didn’t know what was going on half the time, he didn’t know the script, the other character’s lines, just what he was supposed to say when he needed to say it. That’s why he looks absolutely flipping clueless when Boromir dies and slightly absentminded the rest of the time! I remember in the theater the line got a laugh! It's essentially a scene just between Gandalf and Aragorn, but apparently the writers felt like they had to give everyone else a line, but man, what they gave to Legolas was so utterly redundant and ridiculous that it made him look stupid. And he's supposed to be thousands of years old! 😲
By the 3rd movie, Jackson would have undoubtedly seen that fathers were taking younger kids to see this masterpiece come to a close and so added lines to help those who weren’t able to come to that conclusion
