They weren’t that bad. I have changed filters that were so jammed packed, it looked as though I broke apart a vacuum cleaner bag apart 😂. Nevertheless, great info friend 👊👊
Would liked to see if you could see light through those filters. You didn't show the part number of the new filters to be able to compare to the old ones. Check the font, text height, date, things like that. I liked the way Mercedes uses 2 filters and the sound deadening felt on the cover. Those dimples molded in the cover reminded me of the dimples that Mercedes used in the floor pans to mitigate wind resistance and possibly noise. Might consider an auto detailer and have the carpet and upholstery cleaned.
I changed my air filter on my Mercedes, at about 6 years, as I live in a clean air environment and I assumed it would be ok as I'd had it 'serviced' by them for a while. It had been a Mercedes Finance company car before. It had service history when I bought it, but sketchy when I asked for the records. The filter had never been changed and was full of oak leaves! But it had a 'service history'! What does that say? Your S class will also have had a service history in its early life. What does that say? :))
My son is the one with the Mercedes. I just like watching Peter's TH-cam channels. I deal with Toyota and Lexus dealers. This might be the same. I talk to a service writer never to the mechanics. I get this check list with maybe 100 things they check. They want to charge me for it. I said no way but if they found something I will have them repair it. I argued with the service writer that the mechanics just check the list but never perform the inspection. Anyways "Wipers" are on the check list. I took the car in knowing the wipers were shot. I picked the car up and the wipers were still shot. I raised my voice for all to hear bitching about the wipers. I even went to the manager. I get respect now when I bring my car in. They know my face. I always barter the price.
Here in germany the cabin air filters are changed during service. If they are still original this car never had a service at the dealer and i would inspect everything to see what also have never been done. No clue why to spend so much for the car and have no money for service. You can do it yourself like you do to save money but to have it done correctly.
Peter i changed a pollen filter on friends 320 V6 Diesel merc, a 2006 with 230,000 miles, and filter had never been changed !! Worst one ive every seen !!
I can't wait til you get the airshocks fixed.

It is possible that these are the original ones. They are filthy but it could be worse, though.
Good
