Frontotemporal Dementias (FTDs), an umbrella term for a range of disorders affecting the frontal and temporal lobes of the brain, are particularly challenging for families and professional care partners. Odd, often impulsive behaviors and potential loss of language are just a few symptoms causing frustration and anxiety.
    Learn with Teepa Snow:
    - why proper screenings truly matter, and where to get them
    - about causes and symptoms of different types of FTDs
    - which changes happen in the brain, and how they affect the person living with FTD
    - how to deal with challenging behaviors without sacrificing the relationship
    - which medications can help or potentially cause harm
    - how to best manage the disease with current treatment options
    - why supportive communication and a Positive Physical Approach™ are vital to offer the greatest quality of life, for the person with FTD and care partner alike

My wife was diagnosed 2 years ago at age 57. I retired early to care for her full time. I've learned to slow down to her speed at doing everything. When we are in public she does want to greet every person that comes her way. Now I understand why. This short video has given me even more understanding. The most difficult thing about dealing with this illness is having more and more of her abilities and personality being taken away and I have to be alright with it. No choice but to accept what is happening, adjust, adapt and keep going. Emotionally draining at times. But I owe it to her to be strong. I try to live up to the standard that she would set if she was to care for me.

Have you tried a bath? Some have issues with the water hitting their head. Some are terrified of baths. If both are problems, it may be time for other alternatives like bed baths or no-rinse wipes and no- rinse shampoos.
