I'm happy to see that this channel is bringing out new GIMP content and may I say it has that same professional look and feel like all those big photoshop, after effects, etc,... video tutorials which is super refreshing. You've earned yourself a subscriber. Thank you for sharing your creativity with us!
Hey Nick, in the bottom right corner the spacing is set to 0, instead of the default 20. You forgot to note that you have to set the spacing to 1 or the whole thing doesn't work.
hello thanks for this video you are the only one on youtube who knows how to use the gimp program professionally, I write this from the translator I'm from Argentina greetings
to be honest with guys, Nick is the mastermind Graphics in this era. Nick you are the best and thanks alot for the good work. you have all of my respect.
If you want to learn more about how GIMP works, I have a 60+ part video series where I explain all of the tools and features in GIMP and demonstrate how they work. Here's the link if interested: logosbynick.com/gimp/
Been following your tutorials for a week or so now, and can't express how much they are appreciated! Keep 'em coming, bud. Side note: gonna be in Philly in a few weeks for the first time. Got any must-see, must-do recommendations? Thanks in advance! Would love to buy you a beer to thank you for all the help and advancement you have provided.
Awesome, I'd recommend checking out the Blue Cross RiverRink on the Delaware river, then walking down to Spruce Street Harbor Park (maybe a 5 minute walk if that.) Really nice this time of year.
Hey Nick. I love your intro song. Thats the reason why Im messaging. Ive had this video open for three days and every now and then I just restart the intro to listen. Anyways - good video. Straight and to the point and you dont fumble your words. Youre good.
3:20 At that point, when I just let go, the line going through the circle remained. Eventually, I figured out that I also needed to hit [Enter]. Maybe that's because I'm using GIMP 2.10. Not sure.
One important error that can occur in this workflow: *dark lines along the path!* If you are suffering dark pixels running along the draw-path, I just figured out why. The default pixel color is RGBA 0000, meaning by generating your gradient inside a circle-selection, you only color the inside solidly pink but on the pixels around the outside GIMP blends the gradient towards black while also phasing into transparency. When you select from alpha-channel it could leave dark streaks with those black-blended pixels. To correct this, generate the gradient over the desired height of the final brush-cross section *on the whole layer* to color all adjacent pixels through with pink as well, then select an ellipse across the gradient for your brush, invert the selection [by default Ctrl+I] and erase the rest of the layer again [by default DEL]. Copy the brush to the clipboard again [by default Ctrl+C] and remember to reduce the distance in the Brush-Settings to 1. Finally redraw along the path without streaks.
Oh, and also if your gradient spreads from a limited selection to the whole layer the moment you deselect, it's because the gradient tool was updated. It now retains the positions of the coloring-anchors and allows the user to modify their position until the gradient command is applied with RETURN. If intermediately you eliminate the selection, the tool stays active and spreads the gradient across the whole layer. Not that it matters because as stated you're better off coloring the entire layer and erasing from an inverted selection to suppress streaks.
hi nick, i have problem , my tracet is not continous, the tracet is not clear, it is composed of several circles, yet i check the box " smooth stroke", please help me
My apology re-watch the video and I saw some mistakes that I made so I redid it and now it looks awesome thank you a lot your videos are very helpful I saw two of your videos and done two projects, I can feel that I'm getting closer to become a graphic designer
Hi nice and easy guide you made, but when im comming to the point where you are going to stroke the path you made at 8.38 in your video, im getting like small dots instead of a clean line, why is that ?
It has something to do with gimps alpha channel feature it leaves 20.0 spacing around the object by default. I'm NEW to gimp as well the only work around I did was just make a addition circle inside the one you created and copy to visible and it should work
I have this issue where it skips instead of being a smooth stroke so I have these random black streaks at points. Would this have something to do with me having a low end laptop?
@@jako9833 lol i think that only makes it look like it isn't still there but is. i want it gone completely. like there is literally black and orange on the outside. eff
I followed the instructions but when I click stroke path, the paint appears but some of it has a grey pixel aura around and on the pink instead of looking smooth. Have I done something wrong or is there a way to fix it?
when u downscaled the circle where u made the colore fade and created a smaller one, how did u make the bigger one disapper. cause i still have the outlines of the bigger cricle when im drawing. also its lagging like crazy when i try to draw. thx for answer! nice video!
Nice video man, do you know how to take out the two sides because when I open gimp it don't show the part that show the tools and layers if you can help thank
I really enjoy your video I tried doing the same exact logo and when I try to add color to it just as you did and this video it wouldn't go through so do I need to change because you got the 2.8 version but I got the 2.10 version do you have any advice to give me.
hey i have a question. up until 3:25 everything works fine, but as soon as i click on "select -> None" it immediately covers the entire screen in that color that i just wanted to have inside the circle. what am i doing wrong? btw i have the newest version of Gimp that slightly differs from the one shown in the video, could that have something to do with it?
Wait... is that music I hear in the background? LOL.... That is new. ;P Great job Nick! I plan on using this fr my mod changes for fonv for wall graffiti so thank you!
Personally... I dont think you need to improve them... I learn so much already. Well other than you need to put out alot more....LOL! Like 5 a day more LOL! ;) ;P
Just getting into graphics, but I didn't see a comment on this, but is it possible to have the text automatically create the path? Nice tutorials btw! Thank you..
1. Select the circle. 2. Select Alpha to selection 3. Right click on it,chose select>shrink> 7.0px(As you wish) and click Ok 4. Then right click again>edit>copy. Boom. The streak is gone.
For me this doesnt work, the smallest setting i have for spacing is one so the effect is not smooth, can see the outline of most circles, anyone found a fix for this
When you're making the brush tip from that gradient circle, try shrinking the selection (through [Select]->[Shrink...]) by one pixel and then copy the selection again, that should solve your problem.
I keep forgetting about custom brush that can be made with just simple gradient tool. By the way, can you make next tutorial how to create your own/custom gradients? I once tried it but i lost all default gradients. :( I had to delete and reinstall gimp to get them back.
when i do this, mine is not that smooth even if i put smooth stoke quality and weight at max i keep seeing black edges in every stoke between point to point
Hi, I do fine up to 9.38 in, just after the elipse fill. When I let go I still have the circle selected, and when I click 'select none', the gradient fills the whole image. Where am i going wrong pls? thanks.
Hi Nick. Thanks for Tutorial. It's really helpful for me as a t-shirt art designer. Hopefully, you create more gimp tutorial about coloring object like multiple color of dropped ink. Thanks
Your work and tarining is fantastic. Please tell us how to import vectors from inkscape like smart objects. GIMP import paths but without color filling.
if I would like to find a course to add texts like this to photos so I can make something similar to an album cover what should I search for on udemy . would that be considered graphic design?
Good tutorial thanks Nick, love the videos. I could not figure out how to get rid of the ripple on the brush , so instead of using the gradient brush I just used a normal brush with black lol. Stroked to path and the letters looked good in plain black so went with it. Making these letters to use in Imovie , when I rotate the video in imovie unfortunately it does not rotate titles.
I remade this tutorial recently based on some of GIMP's updates. You can watch the newer version here: th-cam.com/video/Ynr2TzNz3MA/w-d-xo.html
