That refreshed my memory. It was 1970. My family left the Twin Cities and headed south with no plan. In Missouri we talked with a family at a rest stop. They talked us into going to the Grand Canyon. The Petrified Forest was right on the way. I had a new camera and I took a bunch of slides which I still have. And, that was almost 52 years ago. Safe travels.
Same here. Many summers we drove from the SF Bay area where I grew up, to Topeka KS (where my grandparents lived). My dad had to see every landmark along the way, and yes, in my scrapbook is a small piece of wood from the petrified forest. It was back in the early 60's too. Boy, those were the Golden Years!!!

Petrified Forest National Park was a park that surprised me and was way cooler than I thought it would be! I've been traveling around out of my suv with my pup doing something similar to what you're doing. We stumbled upon the Petrified Forest on our way to another destination and are so happy we did. Love your positive attitude and watching your adventures with Camper!

I can say as an extreme introvert, I want this. what an age we live in where you can have a portable movie projector. Forget drive-in theaters, now it is personalized in-drive theaters. Nikki is living the life. I literally never imagined that I would put on my bucket list "solo in-drive theater night" but it's now a goal!

I agree that the Petrified Forest NP is a terrific place to explore & ponder. On one of my trips out west with my longtime friend, I didn't realize he was picking up small pebbles, a definite no-no! He was fined by a ranger & when he asked me if I had taken anything I replied, "No, it's bad luck." He smiled & didn't even ask to turn my pockets inside out. I'm sure they had 'eyes' on us and others. Let and learn!

Ahhh...the Painted Desert and the Petrified Forest, one of my favorite places on earth. I caught that glimpse of the Painted Desert Inn! I could happily just move into that place and wake up every day looking at that lovely view. *sigh*

Take your kiddos! My husband and I were car dwellers for a couple years before we had kids and traveled all over. We can't do it full time now with the kids but we take them for shorter camping trips all over the place.

IDK if you saw my comment I left on another video, but I can't thank you enough for "turning me on" to Cracker Barrel. Boy, I finally found a safe, totally quiet place to park. And I bought a great car magnet in Cracker Barrel that says "Not All Who Wander Are Lost." That's now my new motto!!!👍 👌

I’m almost 50 years old, the NY jets is one of a few teams in ANY sport I can not remember having even a winning season, Rex Ryan took them to afc title game one year about 15 years ago , I remeber not one other positive season lol

Most people who live in their car do so because they can't afford an apartment, and so they're miserable. The fact that many people are doing this now and are happy is just awesome. I see you're not making any videos of your life in your car. So how do you make money then? I know that some of these youtubers make a ton, as in 20k/month or more. For 20k a month though, I'd buy my own house lol : )

The Petrified Forest National Park is amazingly beautiful!!! I was there last August while cross country driving, and highly recommended to anyone on the i40 passing by! You won't regret it :)

For whatever reason, I skipped going to the petrified forest on my trip through Arizona. I'm so regretting that now and am totally planning on going sometime this summer. I had no idea there was so much to see!

Fun fact: As a kid My Father took Us boys on many adventures through out the US , Canada and the World actually. But one of my fav memories is we were exploring Our somewhat native Montana and we came across a huge area of petrified wood. Not in a park and not on the scale of the National one. Still, it was really cool.
It was near an area in kinda Eastern Montana referred to as the Missouri Breaks or Charles M. Russel Game Reserve.
This remote area, is a treasure trove. I recommend an area called the Mussel shell trail. This is also very primative area, ie no access for most vehicles, horse back, pack in but worth it.
There is old trapper cabins and stuff up in there.
Thou it's been years since I have been back over there, but I plan to go soon.
Lot's of deer, elf, antelope and water fowl( it was/is a game reserve for ducks and geese), as always also home to Bears and big cats so if one goes be careful there 🙂Cheers and thanks Nikki for sharing!

Your trip to the Petrified Forest brought back so many memories for me! It is so beautiful there; I still have a little plastic box of polished rocks that my parents bought for me at the gift store there. You and camper are just awesome - good clean fun!!! BTW: I didn't know you could run the accessories off your main battery and have the engine charge it back up... and only a gallon of gas? Impressive. Now I get it. Very clever!!!

My wife told me about some lady living out of a Prius with her dog and my initial reaction was "No way! That thing is way too tiny." Then I watched you explain how you organize everything and my mind was blown. We are now hooked on your adventures! Thanks for the videos Nikki!
If your adventures bring you to Northeast Pennsylvania, there is a beautiful state park with a lake and many waterfalls. Dogs are allowed. My wife and I frequent the park with our goldens. It is Ricketts Glen State Park. Stay safe and God Bless!

I went to the Petrified National Forest and Sequoia National Forest when I was a little girl with my parents. My parents bought a small piece of petrified wood back then, in some gift shop or something there. I barely remember the trip because, I was so young back then, so I really enjoyed seeing your video.

I camped in my Prius for a week at the edge of Death Valley in January. It was between 35 and 65 degrees the whole time. I basically kept the Prius running the entire week, with the temp set to 65 at night and 68 in the day. It was quite pleasant.
If you ever need to make a pit stop in Vegas hmu! You’re more than welcome to stop by for food and a snooze whenever. My roommate and I love you’re story and camper is just the best doggo ever! Wish you the best, stay safe !
Nikki and Camper, just found your channel. I agree, the Petrified Forest National Park is a most unusual place. Was coming back from Battle Mountain, NV in 1962 stopped in. Took a tour of the visitor's center, got a souvenir. Your tour was must longer than mine, we were headed back to Arkansas. I follow several channels, but you are the only one that camps in a Prius. I will enjoy following your adventures.

My favorite truck stop is Hat Six Travel Plaza exit 182 interstate 25 in Evansville Wyoming. The have everything a weary travel needs Food choices, massive showers, tavern and a huge paved lot.
I remember the time when I visit the petrified forest area, I stay at the same parking spot, but sleep in the hotel near by. This was one place on a long route throughout the western part of the us. Nice to see it now again but through your eyes! Love your hikes like blue mesa, would like to do that again! Your dog must be the happiest dog on the world, so many hikes and rounds he can walk! Stay healthy and watch your knee! 👍🏻

Petrified Forest National Park was a cool stop! Stopped there on the way to Winslow. Stayed at the La Posada Hotel, which is a restored Harvey house. A great place to stay also. Between Winslow and Flagstaff is another couple spots to stop is the Meteor crater and Walnut Canyon National Monument.

My wife, daughter and I stumbled upon the Petrified Forest after a couple days at the Grand Canyon. We spent an entire day there and at the Painted Desert. So interesting, so amazing! I agree, even at $5 a gallon it’s worth using one to stay warm. A diesel or propane heater would cost far more.
I grew up in Northern Arizona, so cool to see you and Camper having fun there! The Petrified Forest is especially unique, thanks for the great tour!
I know there's spots all over the area around petrified forest park that sells petrified wood, but don't buy any!
It's all over the place out there. Go outside the bounds of the park and just look around in any drainage ditch along the road. You'll find plenty of it just laying around and it's totally legal to collect it as long as you're not inside the park boundaries.

really cool and underrated NTL park.. been a couple times and its been pretty quiet there each time as you can explorer a ton without seeing anyone..
