Although it's important to be able to execute each technique, it's how you use them together that will make your scratching interesting, musical, and your own style. There's infinite ways for a turntablist to express themselves over a beat, in the same way a rapper can with words. Remember, scratching is a language and any language takes practice to become fluent. I'm trying to give everyone a headstart in my tutorials by showing the techniques...

The record may need a little nudge forward when you're cutting really fast to counter the momentum of being span backwards. You hand also needs to stay on the record until it is ready to play forwards, otherwise it will carry on spinning backwards longer than you want it to.
Try not to push the record too hard or the sound will be sped up and sound distorted. With practice, you'll find the right amount of force to use.
Remember, when you're cutting fast, the record is being pulled backwards

Ive never seen a video on youtube thats made the processes of scratching so clear to me :) The combinations section is a stroke of genius with the titles. These tutorials are awesome! I've been djing for 6 years and just started scratching a year ago. I'm working on getting turntables but these fundamentals are really helping me make due with my numark mixtrack pro 2. the most clear instructions I've gotten from a tutorial, hope to put a scratch video up very soon

The best way to learn and develop your own style is to jump on the decks vinyl only and go! It’s like being pushed into a swimming pool at the deep end.
