Why does everyone say that. Watch this video closely and look where is index finger is. Not even close to the trigger. This seems pretty safe to me. It's probably all about the technique. Start with blanks until you feel comfortable going with live rounds.
Honestly, it's not as risky as it looks. If I can be a gun nerd for a minute, to flip-cock a levergun like that, you push the lever forward, which disengages the bolt, then flip it. There isn't even a bullet in the chamber in this position, so it's pretty unlikely for anything bad to happen. Still probably not the most responsible way to use it, but c'mon, it looks sweet.
It’s all about the load. I can load up a 405gr bullet that you can shoot 1 handed easily. Or I can load the same bullet that if you try will slice the webbing of your hand to the bone and probably break at least 1 finger, maybe 2. Same bullet. Different powder.
@@trevoredwards9344 They can be the same load. You don’t have to move a 300-400gr bullet at 2000fps to kill something. If you can push it for 1300fps it will go stem to stern on a bull elk. There’s no secret bullet or anything. It’s a 45/70. But my primary load is a 350gr Hornady round nose over a healthy charge of H-4198. I’m moving my bullets at about 1500fps and it’s absolutely bang flop on big (350+lbs) feral hogs. So if you get one, any ammo from a reputable manufacturer will do. Hornady LeverEvolution is very popular because I think it’s the cheapest factory ammo you can get. But it will absolutely destroy a deer or hog’s shoulder. So much so that the meat is wasted.

God this gun is a work of art. The engineering behind it is dead on perfect. It's so compact, powerful, accurate, quick, holds a decent amount of ammo, and the ammo is light to carry... You can't go wrong with this gun!
I recently did the most American thing possible: I drove 145 miles one-way to purchase a legal full-auto M16. Then I got a burger and fries at a fast food place called "Wendy's." Then I drove home. It was a good day.
To the ill informed in the comments: watch closely, the action isn't closed until the rifle is pointing down range again. While the muzzle is anywhere pointed in your direction, the action is wide open and thus the chamber is empty and the gun is not in battery so it wouldn't fire anyways. Not only is it completely safe (apart from maybe blunt force), it's actually redundantly safe.
Remember the basic rules of gun safety. Yes the action is open and out of battery if performed flawlessly. What happens if you flub the trick? And as there is no advantage to cycling, this is treating the weapon as a toy.

You push down on the lever, the action opens... then you stop the spin with the lever and the rifle completes the spin shortly after, closing the action. That last part is Key, successful spin chambered round, unsuccessful spin... No chambered round. You only do it once you've already fired, so everything before the action closing can never result in a ND. Miss any one of these steps and you either throw your gun on the ground with a spent casing and a dropped hammer OR you throw it in the dirt with an open chamber, chief. And no it's not "treating it like a toy" it's called having fun, lighten the hell up. I'm sure it's not super good for the gun, but it's not really a safety issue at all for anyone with better hand eye coordination than a toddler because you'd really have to mess up to have any chance of the gun firing during the spin. It would have to already be cocked and locked and or you'd have to somehow have your single dominant hand in two places at once.

Smooth flip! I have had a 44 ,30-30 Winchester with the John Wayne/ Rifleman loop on them! I had practiced for years that flip! I took a friend with me to visit this older man who I rode horses and shot guns with (we were all deputy Sheriff's but the older gentleman would sneek a single action Colt to work every once in a while when the Sheriff wasn't looking 😂)! When we arrived the older deputy came out of the house with a Trapper model 44 with the big loop on it and gave it a flip! I then took it and did the same! My friend the gleefully started squealing "oh let me,let me , let me"! Well with the owners permission I handed it to my friend and when he attempted the flip we got to watch the rifle take several summersaults across the yard 😅!

People complain about the Lever action flip being dangerous, but don't realize that when done correctly, the action is open for a second even after the barrel has flipped past your head, meaning no round has been chambered yet while it's pointing anywhere other that in front of you. Sure conceivably there's probably a way some yobbo could force the action closed too early, but you'd have to put some effort into that because the way it works is that round is chambered by the time the grip is in your hand again, but not necessarily before.
Anyone doing this with others, would quickly find themselves friendless. Anyone doing this on TH-cam, would quickly find themselves without credibility.

I did this with snap caps and mine fired after a few attempts. It was at that point I realized, if it were a real round, I'd probably be dead.
