    for those who are still struggling
    Solution:
    In the upper-left corner of the Viewport, click the small + icon and choose:
    Viewport Configuration > Display Performance.Increase the value for Texture Maps.
    Note: Before the 3ds Max 2015 version, the setting was in the following location:
    Preferences > Viewports > Configure Driver.
    There, you could increase the value for textures.

    Nitrous Set Texture Size Limit - this is a nice script. It allows you to change texture display resolution in viewport, good for displaying references at their full size and quality.

    everytime i import png image on some material it creates black background, how can i avoid this ? i would like original png to be displayed with transparency arround like it should be
