Observations on Logitech Nano optical mouse: 1- at 2:30- The reference to removal of 'cap' seems to imply the small tabs can be pushed in to unlock the top. In my case the tabs are attached to the base and would not move. I used a straight pin to pry out the corresponding 'ears' of the top outward to unlock/remove the top. 2- A caution, the small foil is easily bent if cleaning is not done very carefully. 3- The small curved portion of the foil holds it in tension and is the main actuator for proper actuation of the button. If over done, you have a hard time getting it back to correct tension. 4- cleaning the contact points in the base with a steel screwdriver took the copper plating off the contacts AND damaged the small grooves that the copper foil sits in. Thanks for the video!

Thank you, my mouse works again.
Tip 1: before opening the little case, place a small piece of sticky tape onto the little case. This prevents the small white little plastic piece from flying away never to be found again.
Tip 2: consider cleaning the metal sheet without extracting it. It seems it's not always necessary, or desirable, to extract it.

Thanks for the nice video and a 2nd lease of life for my mouse. The critical part is getting the copper plate back in its place. If anyone is having issue with that part just remember that both middle and front contact points have two steps and the plate needs to be on the first step in both of them. Just pop open the other side switch for reference and you will get it.

Ended up pulling the switch out of the circuit board trying to lever the switch open. It also pulled the solder pad off, so there is no way I can solder it back on. Basically wrecked my mouse completely. Also damaged the catch on the switch so it doesn't close fully. Trying to repair a heavily used switch is kind of a waste of time, as the metal is already weakened, it will soon bend and produced weak/no clicks soon enough. Much more sensible is buying quality replacement mouse switches (most switches in computer mice today are cheap crap), unsolder, replace and solder with new switch, then you have a switch that will last almost forever.

I have ordered some new omron switches, (I've never soldered, I plan to take the spring out) since one of them ripped. Again, Thanks for the tutorial. Hello, Lyle. You're a welcome. If you are using Razer, I'm pretty sure that it uses Omron switches that has a thicker and wider copper / Bronze spring piece. I learned about it when my I tried to replace the spring piece of my Razer Naga.

When a mouse microswitch exhibits flakey clicks but still has decent mechanical clicking action then the contacts just need to be cleaned with contact cleaner such as Deoxit. I got my 4 Logitech Trackman Marble mice clicking properly again today by using Deoxit on the offending switches. The microswitches in these things are half the size of switches in other mice and removing the top piece is quite difficult to do without breaking the tabs because the plastic is very hard and the fit tolerance between the top and bottom is tight. I also don't have a microscope to aid in this. At 55 the peepers ain't what they used to be.

You could introduce contact cleaner into the tiny gaps around the small actuator on top but that will be pretty tedious. I chose to get a pin vise (small handheld drill bit driver) and a 5/64" split point drill bit to drill a hole into one side of the top piece. The split point will help keep the bit from walking while trying to start the hole. Initially you need to apply good pressure on the bit just until a divot forms in the plastic. Then use only slight pressure after that or you risk suddenly poking through the cover and damaging the internals. You have to take this slowly and when you feel the drill bit grab a little it means you're about to pop through the side wall. This is where you need to hold back on the pin vise while turning to clear out the plastic "chips" from the inside of the hole and so that the bit doesn't crash into the internal parts.

The hole makes it much easier to introduce 3 or 4 drops of Deoxit into the switch. 3 or 4 drops is a lot for these switches but I wasn't confident one drop would be enough to make it to the contact points. It will easily wick into the hole. I only had a very small tube of it but it also comes in a plastic bottle that includes a thin needle applicator that would work better than the small tube I had. The Deoxit will start to wick out of all gaps on the switch. Just wipe off with tissue or paper towel.

I have a logitech M280, and I didn't want to break my mouse, so after disassemble the cases into two, I didn't do anything but blow hard around the button lick element on the circuit board a few times but carefully, after which it works way better than before. Yes, dust could be an issue

  • @Mist
    @Mist 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Thanks fixed the issue :) I got lucky with putting the small piece of metal back to its place

You're welcome! I'm glad you managed to fix your mouse, Mist! I got some tips in one of the comments (Land.on.off Mars) which can make your life easier next time.
Tip 1: before opening the little case, place a small piece of sticky tape onto the little case. This prevents the small white little plastic piece from flying away never to be found again.
Tip 2: consider cleaning the metal sheet without extracting it. It seems it's not always necessary, or desirable, to extract it.

I've got a razer naga molten mouse, the thing is it does not double click but i am having troubling clicking it. it seems that it has become heavy and hard to click "softly" unless i apply more pressure for it to click. what can i do in that case? is it broken? or is there dirt? fixable? Dont want to throw it away, really love this mouse and helps me a lot in MMO games.

I was upset cuz my left click was messed and i couldn't holding the input click while was moving the mouse even though i was holding the button. A quirky 'miss click' issue.
It took me a lot to put that copper tool and when i did, it didn't sound but works. When i proved the click, i was and i am fascinated, now my mouse ( at least my left click xD ) feels like a expensive one, the sensibility is high and i'm more comfortable with it. Thank you again :).

anyone peeping this down the road id recommend using a toothbrush and rubbing alcohol to clean the spring off, some gunk gets REALLY stuck on there, plus you dont wanna scrape the contact with a metal screwdriver tip (also isp just generally evaporates dirt off metal). no use isp on plastic tho its really not good for it

Redragon m901 perdition 24000dpi mouse kept triple clicking, so I tried this. Ended up slicing my finger open with a knife trying to open the black click box, which was impossible to open. Somehow managed to get it open and spent 2 hours fiddling with the copper plate. Put it back in wrong, then put the box back together. Had to try opening it again and the small white piece got launched into the unknown. Spent another hour searching for it on a white carpet, but couldn't find it. Patience ran thin and ended up raging and smashing the mouse, knowing it was worthless without the white piece. Battery broke open and got in my cut, finger starts burning. Now I need a new mouse.

Most of the actual mouses use chinese made microswitch who are junk because made in bad metal who burn at contacts: i did repair my brand new Corsair mouse (who had 2 dead microswich after only 1 month use!) with the microswich from a 22 years (!!!) old 3 button mouse with microswitch "made in Japan", who fit perfect in place from the chinese junk, and this work now perfectly!

Step 1 : open Omicron switch
Step 2 : the little piece of metal sheet fly away and you are screwed :)
Joke aside, this take a lot of time to open (I had to use fingers to open it, screwdriver was too thick) and even more time / effort to get it back properly.
My mouse was faulty (left click wouldn't hold). After switch cleaning and reassembly it's fixed. It feels like the left click is a little more stiffy.
