ฝัง
- เผยแพร่เมื่อ 19 ก.ย. 2021
- Bill loves Highlander and Star Wars, so when he got his hands on a sword mold from Highlander 2, a mash up had to happen! The lightsaber was purchased as a kit, but all the connecting pieces were machined from real metal! Also, the handle came from a special mold...

For future ref: brass is a work-hardening metal. The more you bang on it, the harder it becomes. To anneal it you should evenly warm it to a dull red, not bright red, then quench it in water to quickly and evenly cool it. Unlike steel, quenching brass softens the metal; hammering it into shape will then gradually re-harden it. If you find its give lessening as you work it, you an just re-anneal it till it's where you want it! Loved the mashup and looking forward to the full-metal replica!
Great tips, thanks for sharing!
I'm glad you enjoyed the parts I sent you! What a cool idea! Can't wait to see what you do with the other mold. - Mike
Thanks again, SO MUCH Mike! =D
you're the man, man
Thank you Mike!! You made it happen.... And all hail the mighty algorithm
...Other mold? Why must you tease us like that.
@@Zachoff Such cruelty 😭😭
Getting your hands on the original mold is great. What you did with is amazing!
Thank you so much Ted! =D
@@punishedprops You gonna share the mold somehow?
@@Clay3613 I second this. I grew up watching highlander in the 90s. One of my all time favorites.
@@punishedprops I'm so jealous, I'm a huge fan of highlander and I'd probably be as giddy as you if I had my hands on the original mold
This was such a fun build! Now that we're all moved in, would you be interested in a shop tour video?
EDIT: Here is the workshop tour! th-cam.com/video/mCZEnP7DpCs/w-d-xo.html
We've missed you guys! Would love to see the shop!
Yes definitely
Absolutely! Would love a shop tour!
Heck yes!
Would love to see the new space.
After watching the first episode of Star Wars: Visions, this build is so much more relevant and amazing!
hell yeah!
Foamsmithing leads to great results, but it's always so much more satisfying to see metal props
Yeah the metal feels so good!
That's why I make metal cosplay swords
projects like this are what being a maker is all about. making the stuff you love that you would never see out in the wild.
Macleod: "There can be only one."
Mcgregor: "Only a Sith deals in absolutes."
Butters: polka will never die!
Johnny from airplane: " DID I LEAVE THE IRON ON? " ;3
The legend is back! There can be only one!
Ahoy Jessy! =D
Never tell me the odds!
@@punishedprops I'm glad I came to check the page
Legend is the right word. And there can only be one Bill Duran.... master of many punished props
I know many highlander fans don't acknowledge the existence of highlander 2, but as the first highlander movie I saw when I was a kid, it has a special place in my heart. Plus, Sean Connery was hilarious in that movie! It's so cool that you got to use the mold from the katana hilt for the lightsaber. Keep up the highlander videos!
Wow what an amazing result. I’ve been impatiently awaiting this video, and I’ve gotta say I’m blown away on the quality of videos you guys are able to create in your new/old workspace!
Awe, that's very kind of you to say. =)
That funny moment when you thinking of watching Higherlander, and this shows up to watch on youtube a few minutes later on a channel you've never seen before :D
This, was just incredible. I saw my first video of yours last night, and today this was a recommendation from TH-cam. I'm also a big Star Wars and Highlander fan, I always joke that some of my best conversations have been about Highlander. I had the pleasure of meeting the author Earnest Cline at a book signing, and conversed about Highlander. Also, my first convention that I went to was to meet Adrian Paul from the Highlander tv shows, and of course a movie or two.
Awesome merging of two fantastic universes! Good job!
That's so great! I had such a hard time finding people to talk to about Highlander back in the day. It's so cool you got to meet Earnest Cline and Adrian Paul!
"the bung holer" and "the spinnetrator" I love the names of your tools
Here we are!
Born to be kings!
We're the Jedi's of the Un-iverse!
as a fan of both Highlander and Star Wars, I am blown away by this build. Awesome Job!!!
Seeing bill's face and seeing the pure joy throughout this video has been a highlight of my day
Awe, thanks! =D
Highlander + Lightsaber = Highlighter :)
THIS GUY AS VERY GOOD AT BUILDING THINGS, LIKE TO SEE MORE OF HIS WORK!
I stay for the bloopers. It's like an MCU end credit scene. 😁
One of the best movies, great choice for a custom build.
Man I'm not the biggest Star Wars fan but the Highlander dragged me in and I can not bull crap to sweet you killed it
As a huge highlander fan myself I'm just so in love with this prop. What an amazing job and cool opurtunity to work with the original mold
Thank you!
I was blown away when I seen you posted a new video. Then... I was double blown away when I seen it was about a lightsaber-ish build. Glad to see you're back. Happy for new content from you guys!!! Can't wait for more videos!!!!
It's like discovering a 747... a thousand years before the Wright Brothers ever flew :)
Glorious, Bill!! All that brass work is fantastic!
Thanks so much!
That is amazing! Highlander is one of my all-time favorite movies. Extremely cool that you were able to use an authentic mold for this build!
I'm not always impressed with mashups. Some work... and others fall flat. This was A.W.E.S.O.M.E.
Thanks so much!
Thats amazing that Mike De La Vega could hook you up with this unique opportunity
That was awesome! Great to have you guys back! Missed your videos!
The TH-cam algorithm once again brings me to yet another awesome creator. What an amazing video, love your enthusiasm and positive attitude. Now time to binge watch your other videos!
Glad you guys are up and running again! This is a good reminder/inspiration to get back and finish up some things for Halloween!
We're so stoked to get more projects done! Halloween will be so much fun!
Love Highlander and love all things SW, except the sequel trilogy. This is an amazing crossover
I'm watching you trying to squish that brass and I can hear Alec Steele crying out in my head. When he is finally able to come back stateside, you need to make a trip out his direction for a joint project.
The sheer joy you had building this was awesome. Ty
Very cool. the different colors of brass fits the idea of how lightsabers are hand built by the user.
Oh yeahhhhh totally!
This ended up looking SO SO GOOD!
This was majestically glorious to watch come together….. award deserving.
Awe, thanks!
04:55 Who else screamed "MOLD CLAMP" at their screen when Bill went to hold it open with his bare hands😂 you surely forgot about that poor thing
Glad to see more videos using real metal for cosplay and prop making
I CANNOT LIKE THIS MORE!!!!! I have a replica of a Highlander katana. The lynch pin bent and the blade, not being full tang, was wobbling in the hilt. I got it like that.... But this just gave me an awesome idea on how to make a duplicate of my hilt and make mine own Highlander Lightsaber. I cannot wait to try that, Thank you thank you thank you for this awesome idea. WHY DID I NEVER THINK OF THIS?!?!? ugh. But hey, thank you for.... illuminating.... me to the possibility!!!
I enjoyed this! It would be cool to see a 3D modelled version of the grip portion better optimised for a battery and speaker. Using the newer thread-in blade from saberforge mightve made life easier too, really enjoyable build though! I love my saberforge!
this is incredible. I have never personally seen Highlander or the series, but I have wanted to do a lightsaber build for a long time and this is just awesome!! great work!
What an amazing build!
Glad to see you back on the tube!!!! Can't wait to see what brit brings us. Awesome job.
babys first blacksmithing, blow torch and a claw hammer.... well it worked so Good Job
I didn't even know there was more then one Highlander movie but I LOVE the first one
I’ve missed your videos so much! So glad your back!
wow, wow, wow and wow. This is brilliant on how you crafted it from scratch. You are truly a Saber-smith.
Amazing build I love that you took the extra steps to make t all fit the original handle!!!
Now that you are back up and running, time to make the ultimate Highlander prop, Kurgan's Sword. Not just any Kurgan Sword but one that screws together just like the one in the movie.
The sound of metal attaching to metal is so satisfying! So cool to see this all finished.
Isn't it?! I love it so much. =D
this is literally amazing
GREATEST MASHUP EVERRRRRR!!! 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Super cool Saber! Totally jealous! Fantastic build.
Fantastic mashup!
I made some lightsabers myself and I must say that the worst part is having a design narrow enough to be pretty but bulky enough for the electronics. You really did something impressive.
Thanks so much!
Awesome build. You do such great work. Keep up the great content
Absolutely wonderful. . . Just wonderful!!!!
36:43 One of the great things about step-drills is that you can just flip the sheet over and lightly touch the bit down again against the next step up, to remove all of that messy burr, and even chamfer the hole at the same time as you did on the top.
Impressive, most impressive!! "There can be only one!"
This goes really well with Starwars visions!
absolute legend THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE Bill Doran
Haha! Thanks! =)
So i just discovered your channel through this video! and the fact that YOU HAVE AN ELDER SCROLL BEHIND YOU LIKE WHATTTTT DUDE THATS SO COOL!
Yay! You're back! Great video.
I was thinking about you guys yesterday, so cool to see what you've been working on!!!
Hurray! =D
This was awesome I am a huge Star Wars fan and Highlander fan keep being awesome I need one of those
You made round "seppa". Which is an actual part for japanese blades. Glad to see it.
This is really a gorgeous piece. All the work that you did for it really paid off!
Thank you so much! =D
Your video’s are always awesome man! Happy to see you back!
Thank you!
Wow that's freaking awesome
Great to see another video from you Bill, that brass looks great!
Thanks so much!
Incredible
Dude that is so freaking dope
I love this mash-up! Man, it'd be such a different visual if the immortals had lightsaber battles. I Also love that you _also_ can't hear the words "spin it" without thinking of the "Tailspin" theme.
I bet we could add some lightsaber VFX to Highlander sword fight scenes and it would look awesome.
Combining 2 of my favorites. I love it!
Thank you!
Great work!
The music you chose at 26 minutes low key makes this sound like a home depot advertisement
What a great build!!
Thank you!
Love me some Highlander! Great mashup.
Thank you!
Great video! Glad to see you back!
Thanks!
A beautiful project to see completed.
Thanks Wayne!
Awww yeah! Incredible. I love the mold story so much.
Thanks buddy! =D
Oh my! That is a gorgeous piece!
Thank you!
That looks awesome!!! When you were aging the handle and the brass parts, Bob Ross popped into my head. You are the Bob Ross of prop building, man! So good!
That's wonderful, I love Bob Ross.
Ok, this is a great fusion of genres. Highlander has been my favorite movie since it came out. But... I do not know of these Sequels that you speak of.... I never was five minutes late to the first sequel and sat confused for the next hour and forty minutes... I never went the next weekend to catch the five minutes I missed hoping it would explain what happened only to find out that five minutes was trailers... and I never walked out of a second viewing... I agree Highlander is a great movie and great premise. The Highlander Lightsaber is great!
Are there people who don't like Highlander? Because if there is they should be on a watch list.
that's looks so badass great job
wow! That must feel so amazing being a prop master and creating a prop using the actual mold from one of your fav movies!
It felt really great!
This might be my favorite thing you've built! Awesome!
Awe, thanks!
Super cool Katana Light Saber! 🔥
I love Highlander and I install sabers! I would love to get one of these to install for myself!
Bill, as a metal worker by trade, a number of things you did on this show made me cringe. That being said, your enthusiasm and willingness to try is an inspiration. I am proud of you.
Metal working is so much fun, I'm excited to learn!
You always do the best videos. When I noticed somethings you did that I though hmmm tap that on lathe ect you came back and did it! Pure dedication! Love it!
Yeah I couldn't leave it well enough alone.
That was a TON of work but WOW ! That turned out Fantastic ! You would think the Jedi would actually have something more like this. Since they are such and old religion. Congratulations on another GREAT build. Keep up the good work
I love the idea of making an antique looking lightsaber. =D
Not to take away from the content of the video, but my gods….that weapon rack in the background looks AMAZING!
Why thank you!
Too cool. You are the master!
This proyect was amazing, keep up the great work!!
Thanks so much!
This has such Adam Savage One Day Builds vibes 👌
I just love watching your videos
Thanks so much!
wow. you REALLY made hard work of that!
