    Highlander is one of my favorite movies of all time, so much so I have reproductions of both of Connor's swords. His Macleod family sword and a cheaper, non-film accurate katana that has the dragon head handle finished in more of a bronze color, not even the right handguard on it, but still pretty cool. Also came with two smaller blades that also had the same handle as the full length katana, but they just cut the handles shorter for each, but kept the dragon's head on the pommel.

    I always considered this sword to be a great example of simple and realistic fantasy weaponry. Really like the attention to detail in this Odin. It may be relatively simple, but still looks great

    • @reaper_exd7498
      @reaper_exd7498 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wouldnt say realistic. The break in the blade would make it worthless as a sword tbh. But it looked cool AF and i wish it was real. 😭

    • @artsy_dragon_creations
      @artsy_dragon_creations 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@reaper_exd7498 yea that’s true. If it wasn’t split into multiple pieces it would be better, but the overall shape and design is a good example of a functional fantasy sword. Many fantasy weapons either have too many spikes and serrations, or they’re huge and heavy, or they’re just too oddly shaped in general

    The shoulder on the blade is called a ricasso, which is just an unsharpened portion of the blade below the guard. Some large swords turned this into a "sub hilt" with a leather wrapped ricasso and even a secondary guard sometimes.

  • @engineeredlifeform
    @engineeredlifeform 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    "The movie was great, the series was good, we'll stop there." SUBBED! : -) I remember walking out of the theatre with my friends after seeing 'Highlander 2', and we were barely out of the door, when it started, "But if in this film they both came from the planet 'Zeist',.... and we then went for a beer, and tore it to pieces. Meanwhile, lovely sword. When I was a LARPer I made a couple of McLeod Claymores, but back then we had to pause the VHS to see close ups, it was long before the Internet and the lovely people at Propstore .

    This might be a pain to do, but I think it'd make things more accurate. For the grips on swords like this, you could use a smaller diameter pvc pipe but squash it some so that it was an oval or pill shape of the right width and align that with the blade when you attach it. The grips on real bladed weapons aren't round and I doubt the movie prop had a round grip either. Just a suggestion for future builds. :)

    • @saintignatius714
      @saintignatius714 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Oddly enough, the sword grip in the movie is round. That is if I'm remembering right. It's suuuuper 80s so accuracy wasn't that important. Look up the backflipping scene, you'll see what I mean lol

    • @d_jedi1

    I freaking loved the first movie! Okay, you can say what you like about the series, but it kept that love alive and expanded on the mythology. The movie that came afterwards kinda helped add at least one fairly good sequel to the movie collection. But yeah Clancy Brown seemed like he was 8 feet tall in the movie... or maybe Christopher Lambert was just really short.

    I made the helmet a long time ago, when I was in my very early 20s (a build up of liquid latex and cotton wool, over a cardboard skeleton); lasted a long time, and even scared the hell out of my sister when she walked into my garage almost 15 years later. Now, it'd be a very easy build with the materials available! EVA sheets and some foam clay. Worth a try!
