Credit where credit is due to the NCAA account for posting the full broadcast version the same night of the event without spoiling the results in the title! Now if only the broadcast could stop the habit of cutting to anticlimactic field events in the final four laps of the race...
@@C-R-A-C-K-E-R I find it a little easier to cue the video and avoid spoilers if there's nothing in the text/title giving it away, but yeah they gotta work on the thumbnails.
i love seeing people who’ve won the footlocker national champs or even new balance track championships to then becoming one of the best in the ncaa - excited to see what katelyn tuohy can do !!
Kiokos tatctics at XC and 10k where the polar opposites lol. In XC he went out dead last and relaxed through the first kilometer then pushed to the front. And then he did this
@@timmytheinventor4746 That's been true before. But this was pretty exciting for most of the race, because there was palpable tension about whether they could or couldn't chase down the running who had sprinted out ahead of the main group.
So ESPN breaks away and missed the ultimate winner falling down and the pack reeling in the guy who had been 100 meters ahead for 20 laps. I'm surprised they caught the finish.
Charlie Hicks (and others) ran most of that race in Lane 2. That's 6.28m per lap extra. At has speed, 6.28m is about 1second. So, if the leader on the inside is running 68s per lap, Hicks is running 67... so heading into the last lap he may have run 60-120m further than the leader... and then hopes to live with the leader on the last lap? In that race, it would have been easy to run at the back of the leading pack and saved energy for the last few laps.
Eh, it didn't seem like Hicks spent that much time outside. Unless you're constantly going way out into lane 2 on the turns, that sort of position doesn't seem to matter as much for most of a modestly-paced 10K. Jacobs spent a good deal of the race off the rail, especially in the faster final few laps when he was on Nur's shoulder, and that wasn't much a problem for him!
There are some interesting points during a 10,000m. It's good to see the 3000m point/time... video missed that. How about the 5000m point/time? Video missed that. It's good to see the point where a breakaway is caught. The video missed that. How about the fall? Video missed that (as did the commentary). It's good to see all of the last few laps... the video cut away to see a shot putter.
The commercial breaks were very poorly timed here. You went to commercial and Kioko had a 70m lead, then came back and the pack had caught him. Didn't even know Jacobs fell until after the race was over. I was freaking out about what might have happened to Charlie Hicks bc we didn't see it
commentators got really annoying 12 laps left and they're freaking out about Kioko being way ahead like theres still not over 3 miles of racing. Everyone watching this who's ran knew he was coming back
Absolutely terrible narration. A meet of this quality deserves knowledgeable announcers. Perhaps allow some announcers who have a background in track and field access
@@jonnyrg7489 In the IAAF rules any event on the track 800m or further is only allowed a 25mm stack height in the shoe. Vaporfly’s are higher stack than this making him disqualified under IAAF ruling
Announcing 101- you gotta drop the intro script and talk about a dude with a 100m early lead. That's like talking about league standings while ignoring a leadoff homerun. NCAA do better

Dylan Jacob's, from 2017 Footlocker XC champion to the ncaa 10k track champion

i remember him as a freshman in high school at carl sandburg IL to seeing him on TV real cool
" Nobody makes me bleed my own blood!" HAHAHAHAHA I absolutely love that RGIII was an announcer. Keep him on. He's great.
Dylan Jacobs is a class act
Never thought I would see Nur lose this race.
Maybe nur is prioritizing making the world championship team in the 5k
Think again

I watched this race live today at Hayward. It was so freaking electric during the 10k!!
Yup, electric. Bet it wasn't electric for 24 laps.

Props to the NCAA channel. It put the video out of the full race not long after it was completed without giving away the winner.

Hence why Kioko didn’t have much of a disadvantage come the end

SO WHAT YOURE SAYING IS HE COULD HAVE RUN ABOUT 25 SECONDS FASTER. NO CHANCE.
Y'all are missing that Charles Hicks ran through a nosebleed and still finished sixth

did the math and the 5k was most likely around 14:14-14:16 for the pack and for kioko i'd assume about 10-12 seconds faster
Wonderful!!! Great race. Congratulations Dylan Jacobs! Awesome race!
What on earth was Athanas Kioko thinking at the beginning of this race?! He ran an opening lap of around 62.6 seconds. (1:03)
My cousin with the W! That’s dope 💪
Dylan Jacob’s repping Orland Park, IL🗣‼️😈
I watched it live in Eugene and the finish was just stable and strong all runners were great until last mile.
Kioko had bigger goals than winning this race. I wonder how it would've gone if anyone would've went with him. Super bold.
why would you cut out the most interesting moment
What happens?
Wow, yourfe right...commercial break and we come back and the leader was eaten up...
that runner at the start was brave to go that hard from the get go
kioko rly pulled an uno reverse card compared to his tactic he used for xc
Great race undead. Jacobs was awesome.
Insane last 800. 1:57.
These people on a different level. Kioko yea that’s endurance
Is it just me or did they straight up not even mention Sprout’s name once after the race ended
Alex Maier was hauling a$$. Ran out of track there at the end.
Would of liked to see the front guy get caught and how they did it
Wow, Go Irish ☘️!!
Bruh why would they show the winners in the thumbnail.
at least they didn’t spoil it in the title

Cut away for the only move and when somebody got a nosebleed

How come they’re allowed super shoes in this race?
Where does he go down????????????

Dylan Jacobs wore Vaporflys on the track?? If the NCAA follows IAAF rules then he should be disqualified
Everyone does if the stack height is legal than it is fine.
Vaporflys are allowed both on the track and in road races. Only kipchoge’s prototypes were banned
