Habtom Samuel is a lion. Another one was the guy wearing bib number 632 for Iowa State (Sanele Masondo). He was their first runner and in 5th place overall when he tripped and went down (13:39 mark in the video) and by the time he got up he had fallen back nearly 40 places. He fought back to finish in 23rd place. They missed the National Championship by 12 points.
This brought back horrible memories haha. I was 75th as a freshman at NCAA XC Champs. I also lost my shoe early. It was a bitter cold day and there was actually a random stone patch we had to run over 3-4x. My feet were bloody and I kept slipping in the mud. Still such an honour to have been a part of these Championships.
I ran twice and what a honor. Both as a team member. Freshman year was 165th with just over five minutes a mile and then my red shirt junior year was 66th as fifth man and team made the podium..
Amazing how many guys are sub 30 minutes. Top 3 all had stunning performances. Blanks with the repeat. Samuel with 1 shoe and Schubert with the huge shocker, very accomplished runner but I don’t think too many people expected him to check in 3rd.
@@readegloeckner6532 I really hope he and Conner Mantz can recruit the top guys, like Clinger and Bons, to the US marathon team. I think that with that group we could have a real group of podium contenders by LA 2028.
I went to BYU so congratulations to them! I enjoy this as much as the more popular sports. I lived with an All American at BYU and he was a great roommate.
It appears that Samuel’s shoe came off at 4:40 so he ran around 9k with one shoe. Another runner crossed the line at 27:38 who wasn’t wearing shoes at all.
Can someone explain to me why they go out to die in the first kilometer? Knowing that it can then cost them significantly in the second half, some check at 2.44 and drop as high as 3.13
You get trapped in the back if you do, also you get about 60seconds of "free running" as you use the anabolic sprinting energy that otherwise is wasted. Finally, it is mentally easier to stay with people and use them than risk being pulled back by those around you and inivertantly slowing down
like sethread said, you have to get out and get into a good position for the race. It takes waaaayyyy too much energy to try to pass people -- in a big race like this- if you're not in a good place. So, it would be disastrous to have a slow start. there's a line, of course. You don't want to run too fast, and then die. But you want to be in a place where you can hold your position (basically) for the rest of the race. Or at least put yourself into position where you can pass a couple people at the end.
Oklahoma is being mentioned b/c the “coach” has decided to recruit Kenyans, and while I have no problem recruiting internationally b/c I believe having different cultures is great, you’re NOT a coach if you’re unable to recruit and develop homegrown talent. It’s embarrassing. Oklahoma State can do it. BYU can do it. Arkansas and Oregon can do it. NAU can do it. Stanford and Colorado can do it. NC and NC State can do it. Harvard can do it. Iowa State, Wisconsin, NC, NC State…Why can’t Oklahoma do it? Because their coaches can’t coach. Yes, I’m salty.😂. I’d like to see my alma mater do a MUCH better job.

maybe he should learn how to double knot his laces 😆
Question is, did it cost him the race?
@@seatownfanI think it wasn’t the laces fault his foot got really messed up

Great running mechanics by Blanks. Nearly all movements going forward, not much wasted movement up and down or side to side.
I noticed that as well!

Nice not to have this race hidden behind a paywall
I know, Flo track sucks
Yea, but how is one of the most critical parts of the race cut out???? What happened at 5k?....
Agreed and it’s m not complaining but the 720p makes everything look blurry. I thought my network connection was having problems but nope
Well done Ethan Strand and Parker Wolfe 🙌
harvard boy, champion again...blanks, too smart and too strong for em...again.

Great Run Clinger ! RISE AND SHOUT. Great BYU showing as a team and individuals !
BYU Men and Women team sweep! Great job Cougs.
If only their football team could have similar results

Awesome for coach Ed Eyestone and his BYU Cougars winning the cross country championship!

Maybe, there’s adrenaline that comes with something like that. He ran more aware and aggressive
Can’t say that for sure.
