I really like this style of video, you should do more of it! I suggest adding some soft background music while you talk , and sudden stop of music during your jokes can give a comedic effect.(just a suggestion overall, it was great video!).
Thanks so much for the feedback. There actually is some music running quietly in the background but I’m so scared of getting the volume wrong and drowning out my voice maybe I keep it too low. I’ll try and implement your suggestion for future vids 👍
No your fine I like how your not as uptight, and proper as pretty much all the other craft videos I’ve seen. The only thing I can say to try to be more helpful, is to maybe be more candid, or personal. This video seems so rehearsed or scripted it makes your good tips hard to listen to....you got good shit to teach your subscribers, I’ve noticed in this one video I’ve seen, that there are far more useful/ different tips then most of the videos I’ve viewed. Maybe write down bullet points to speak on, so you have a good idea what to not forget & what key points to speak on, instead of scripting every word spoken down to the letter, along with the strict eye sight directly aimed at the very middle of the camera makes it almost forced. I would love to see some of your personality in these videos, I bet if you tried 50% candid topics, with just key points written down, with the other half not rehearsed but structured with exact notes for what to say, will give you a good balance. I just think you need to figure your style out, which isn’t keycards, & scripts, you have a personality to show, I can see hints of that just from this video...just figured I would leave my opinion because I really found yours helpful to me. I figure opinions from what a viewer feels, or notices might provide some helpful ideas? I hope you don’t take this defensively, because I really see a spark in you, & I think you could do well with a artist style channel, because your style seems to be not so proper, a little edgy, a little rough, & a vocabulary that I actually can listen to haha..good luck with your channel hope something I said translates, & can be useful in someway!
Pencils are original from link US Amazon? They price is so low for example and I'm scared they're fake... In other auctions they cost more, sometimes a lot more
A tip I learned recently: prismacolor tends to flake onto other areas of the art piece and stick to already burnished areas, leaving it dirty looking. Use an exacto knife to gently scrape off the first layer of wax/flecks of other color. You're welcome!
I really like using the colorless blender, because i might be working on something that i dont want to add white to.. i think they could both have a place in your toolbox!
Appreciate the tips. I've been drawing for a while and use prismacolor often. I've actually never tried the toned tan but I often use the toned gray. One way to erase that you didn't mention is to use a scalpel (you can also sharpen the pencils with it as well). When using this method you have to be VERY CAREFUL not to go so deep that you take paper with it. You sort of hold it at an angle that it's perpendicular or almost pointing away from the direction that you're moving it toward and sort of "shave" the waxy color away. You should never use this method as a primary means to erase, only used sparingly, when whatever it is you screwed up is a deal breaker type mistake, and when you're left with no other option. Generally when the mistake has ruined the drawing so the risk of cutting the paper and ruining the drawing is worth it. I agree with using white to blend. I use it very often with lighter or brighter colors. I also use paper blending stumps and very seldomly use an eraser for blending with prismacolor pencils (erasers are much better for blending charcoal than color). But I do use the colorless blender sometimes. It can be useful for blending darker colors or for burnishing brighter colors to increase the saturation without changing the tonal value too much. And you're right about the green. Its a pain in the ass haha. I drew a green 1969 Baldwin Motion Camaro when I was in high school and it was harder than it should have been. But I spent about 300 hours on it and everyone thinks it's a photograph. Trying to make metallic and reflective green like you'd see on a car took an extreme amount of patience. And that's always my biggest tip for anyone that wants to draw, especially realism, is to be patient. Anyone that tells me "I don't have natural talent and can't draw" I always ask if they've ever spent more than 10 hours on a single drawing. The answer has always been "no".
Maybe I just dont know how to properly use my prismacolor pencils but I also use the toned gray paper. Like I said maybe I don't know how to quite use my pencils but it is kind of leaving the tiniest blanks the project I'm doing requires jet jet black look. Do I keep adding more layers? I have tried going over it a couple times adding pressure but now it's looking more cakey. Do I just trust the process?
Holy crap. I’ve been using Prismacolors for SO MANY YEARS NOW and I’ve NEVER heard tips like these before except for the toned paper but I never understood that one. Thank you so much!!!
New to your channel, Farrell Artist, this is a great video! I've been using Prismacolors for almost FIVE decades - so way before you were born, lol! The quality was better back then, but they're still not bad. What I like most is how vibrant and lightfast they are - I have illustrations that are 20-30 years old that still look fine. One of my favorite 'secret' techniques is to use a layer of marker (like Prismacolor or Chartpak marker) under the pencil. Just have to be careful, because they bleed so. I'll be checking out more of your videos, thanks!
these were so helpful! i just got my prisma colored pencils and was inspired by another artist with the tanned paper and im happy that was the best recommended. thank you for this video and keep it up.
This was so helpful. I started to get the blenders when I first ordered the Prisma pencils. I ended up not getting them . When I first used the pencils I was amazed. Thanks for the tips.
Thanks for the tips. Love the toned gray by Strathmore more than the tan. Looking now for your sharpening video .... Must be some magic in the instructions, am hoping.
Can I use the Strathmore medium drawing paper instead? Or can anyone please suggest paper good for blending prismacolour that is a spiral bound sketchbook please? I know you said the Strathmore Bristol 300 series is best for prismacolour blending, but is there a spiral bound option as I cant find one and all my sketches on paper fall out of the sketchbook if it isnt spiral bound, please help 🙏
Also at least they're open stock and I slowly just get a handful of them and build my set up. I just got 8 colors I didn't have yesterday. It's more expensive long term but we do what we can.
thanks my guy I just ordered the 150 set and a 72 copic markers I make a ton of anime art and these should be really help. Can you link that eraser you used I really need better supplies.
I used to have a desktop sharpener....I wish I had it now coz I’m getting prismacolors but I’m buying another one so it’s all good😂great video by the way rlly helpful❤️
I found this channel and first off your art work is amazing and comes out great I especially loved the Goku and Vegeta one with the Galaxy backgrounds. I looking forward when my order of Prismacolors and Tone Tanned paper come in and work on a Gohan piece of the father son Kamehameha can't wait to yse your tips to help make my art work pop thank you so much 😄😋😄
ah thank you so much for checking out the channel and for dropping a comment too! welcome to the community 😄😄 any questions just ask and enjoy your new art supplies!
The kind of paper to use and sharpener to use. Thanks for making the tip video. My uncle literally just bought me a 132 set of prismacolored pencils, and now we were trying to find the right paper for me to draw on. I know this is a old video of yours but I just found your channel and I’ve been starting to draw a lot lately since the quarantine/Pandemic began. And my drawings are actually better then excepted so we decided to get me some really cool art supplies. Right now I’m trying to draw ssj goku green. Also by the way new subscriber, been watching your videos for about a week now, keep up the awesome content bro.
I love prismacolor that I learn English to understand this video now I can speak and understand English I don’t think I have a super good level but I think I can understand pretty well now I have 3 years learning
Thanks for the tips! I just got a 72 set for christmas! Also, do you recommend getting a white gel pen or whatever its called? Just wondering because i've been wanting one
I never use mechanical sharpeners on my Prismacolors ever. That's part why your leads keep breaking. The other part is that you are sharpening them too much, they have a very soft lead the tends to work better with a blunt, bullet shaped tip instead. For small details, the Verithin line has the exact same colors, but with a harder lead that is made to hold a sharper tip.
Will fine grain paper be okay for blending prismacolour? I know he said toned tan as a colour choice to make it pop, but which sketchbooks are best texture and weight wise?
I've bought a set of prismacolor pencils. Which I thought would bre great but they don't lay down. Nice on my crawford and black sketching books . Do they have to have certain paper. They just look like lots of bits missed.ta
I just discovered your channel so forgive me if you’ve already answered this before, but how do you feel about electric erasers? I saw that ultra fine tip eraser pen you had and ran to amazon to buy one of those for my outlines lol, the eraser pen I have now is way too big and that looks perfect but the recommended products below the fine tip erasers online have electric ones and Im not sure
When i went to aus i boght a sketchbook full of toned grey paper, but now im back in nz i cant find anywhere to buy the same paper, and i only have 6 sheets of the paper left
Great video as always! I wanted to ask, could you do a video on how to do galaxys with the arteza pencils? I’ve purchased a set, but the white seems different than prisma colours, as to how it’s used anyways. Maybe I’m just bad😂
Hey, thank you so much and I can definitely do that, I haven't done any galaxies in a little while so I'll have to have a little practice first. I also found the white to be different than prismacolor and agree it's a different challenge! I'll see what I can do
I was intrested if the prismacolor premier soft core 150 pack had any skin tones or I had to buy them seperately im new to color pencils I used mostly copic sketch markers but im try something different
"Chinese food and chocolate pudding!" I lost it!😂 Love these tips and all the others you given along the way 👍 P. S. You should make a video about how to avoid breaking your legs, it could be useful...
I tried the tan paper however my problem i have is when trying to make things really bright white I cant get it light enough not sure what to do to overcome that but paint.
Do you know a good paper for alcohol markers that I can print images off the internet to color? I know this is a pencil video but you seem like you know allot about art
Something a little different. What do you think? Should I keep my mug off the camera and stick to drawing? 😂
I really like this style of video, you should do more of it! I suggest adding some soft background music while you talk , and sudden stop of music during your jokes can give a comedic effect.(just a suggestion overall, it was great video!).

Lmao! 😆 no problem, was my first video of this type. I hope it wasn’t too cringey lol
Farrell Artist it wasn’t you did great 👍🏻
The white is so useful. I remember wanting to get the blender but realized I don't need it
Yeah I remember wanting the colorless blender when I first started and when I used it I was so confused lol
I really like using the colorless blender, because i might be working on something that i dont want to add white to.. i think they could both have a place in your toolbox!
Same. I use it all the time and my drawings come out nice
Same here. I cringed when he snapped it cuz my supply store is always sold out of the colorless blender! 😢
@@claudiacanales2662 mine is always out too lol and the white map color
@@alibree5796 yup exactly!
Just got some prismacolour pencils this was very helpful
Awesome I’m glad you found it useful 😊😊
Love the humor. We all could use more in this world.
thank you 🙏
I'm going to try outlining my work in white before I start filling in. I've never done this before, so I'm excited to try it!

I am ordering a bigger set of Prismacolor today (132), so this will be really helpful (:

i just got my prisma penicls and i did a few drawings but on normal paper becouse i cant afford the toned tan. Also this was really helpful thank u
Enjoy your new pencils! save up and get some type of tan paper when you can, it's a great combination.

yes definitely, they are useful for adding highlights and other effects
Super super helpful. Thank you!
You're welcome!
Love your straightforward tips!
I'm interested in trying the Strathmore tan paper for a new project. But how can I create a white reflection?
What black pen/s do you use to go over the Prismacolors (for line art)?? I used my micron pens and the drawing destroyed them :(
Same. I used Uni ball pens and the wax in the pencil ruined them🥺
i use the prismacolor fineliners, they work on wax colored pencils
Could you do a video on how you choose colors for your art?
This is fun to watch hahaha
haha, glad you enjoyed it.
This was very helpful for me as a beginner thanks so much
When you were choking up and said f***k f***k! You earned a subscriber!! 😂😂

What are your thoughts on using them on sketch books
It'll be fine but if i'm working on a 'finished peice' I will definitely be using them on some kind of premium or higher quality paper.
Will fine grain paper be okay for blending prismacolour? I know he said toned tan as a colour choice to make it pop, but which sketchbooks are best texture and weight wise?
This is so helpful. Tomorrow I'm purchasing the 132 set at my job-it isnt the biggest one but it's only 40 dollars so I'll take it lol
I internally screamed when he broker the blender 😳
I've bought a set of prismacolor pencils. Which I thought would bre great but they don't lay down. Nice on my crawford and black sketching books . Do they have to have certain paper. They just look like lots of bits missed.ta
What’s the best color paper to get? I’ve seen people with tan, gray, green and I’m not sure which to get
I like tan and gray 👍
Farrell Artist thx!
Remember to buy the silknes and soft paper u can get - that helps a lot with pencils
0:05 was that intentional? (cool video by the way, learned something new!)
It was scripted lol. I’ve had to write a script to roughly follow for my videos now or a ramble on for hours 😂😂
Why would it be intentional
@@chrissizemore1772 cause its funny

What do you think is the good paper to use
I use an Xacto knife for sharpening so I only remove wood and never break a tip.
Just so funny you're, thanks for tips of all! Appreciated! Helpful!
What if I have the strathmore coloring pencil paper would that be a different alternative for the tone paper?
I have it as well, along with the tone paper. They both hold the pencils equally as good!
I need help using the grey molding eraser and erasing in general

All tips were useful because I'm thinking about getting prisma color pencils and I wanted to know some tips when using them
awesome, enjoy your pencils if you get them 😀
Thanx man 👍
Helpful tipss thankssd
I suck so bad at using colored pencils but I vowed to master it!!! Lol
keep practicing!
Which paper would you use? I have the toned tan ones but I don’t know which prismacolor pens I have to use for the skin :((
I have a video on prismacolor skin for anime
Is there strathmore toned tan not in a sketchbook?
Any tips for when you're shading, and little bits of that color get on other areas of the piece, and it's extremely difficult to brush off? Thanks!
to be honest, I usually blow it off but a lot of people use a clean, soft makeup brush
Do you take the page out of your book to copy on tan paper? BTW... you are a character and I enjoyed your video and hints.
I sometimes remove the pages from the books, yes. Thank you!, I'm happy you found it useful 😄
I was intrested if the prismacolor premier soft core 150 pack had any skin tones or I had to buy them seperately im new to color pencils I used mostly copic sketch markers but im try something different
Please answer wether these pencils are water soluble.
"Chinese food and chocolate pudding!" I lost it!😂 Love these tips and all the others you given along the way 👍 P. S. You should make a video about how to avoid breaking your legs, it could be useful...
thanks for this
No problem, thank you! 😀
I tried the tan paper however my problem i have is when trying to make things really bright white I cant get it light enough not sure what to do to overcome that but paint.
This whole time i thought i had freakish monster hands and couldnt hold a simple colored pencil without it breaking..i feel validated
I don't like the scratchiness of the colorless blender, which I own.
yeah it doesn't feel nice to use. it does have some applications but overall, it's not great for actual blending IMO
I use the color white which is actually pretty good
Where can I buy spare prisma colors
Thank you!
How do you get it smooth cause when I use prismas they always are scratchy
lots of light layers, using more pressure as you go
I want to buy colour pencils
Which should I buy
Faber Castell Polychrome
Prisma Premier
do you know if there is any way to just buy white prismacolors? i ran out a while ago and have found it harder to blend :(
You didn’t have to throw the shade at green
The most useful tip for me is to outline your drawing with white on ton tan paper!
In tip 2 did he use gelly roll pin?
Good video :)
thank you :)
Do you know a good paper for alcohol markers that I can print images off the internet to color? I know this is a pencil video but you seem like you know allot about art
I’m not a marker artist but a lot of the people I see who use markers use simple marker paper or thick smooth paper
Thanks for
I bought the 132 set instead since I found that the pencils that were excluded in the 132 set and included in the 150 set would be useless to me😅
