First of all, shoutout to ADCARTATTACK for the inspiration for this video. I'm a big fan of his art and love his videos. I wanted to do something similar but comparing prismacolors and artezas expert color pencils. you should definitely go check his channel out here: / @adcartattack
So for my video I decided to pull a still from the show and transfer it to toned paper for the pencil test. I didn't fancy doing an original drawing and I did have an ellaborate background planned out but it would have been way too time consuming with colored pencils!
The set of 72 Arteza expert color pencils will set you back £28 and the 150 set of Prismacolor pencils is roughly £110.
Starting with the Arteza side, I'm genuinely surprised how good they felt to use. I've been using these pencils as a supplement to my prismacolors on and off since arteza sent me them last year to review and at the time I found them to be a very good affordable alternative but after completing this drawing I will be using them a lot more often and am actually really excited to get the 120 set they now have available (when it's back in stock)
The Arteza's have a great selection of colors within the 72 set and the leds are extremely firm. This has positives and negatives. Because you don't have to constantly sharpen them or worry about the led snapping, it makes the experience of coloring much more enjoyable. The downside is that they take longer to blend together, they require quite a bit more effort and layers to get a similar affect.
The prismacolor pencils in comparison are SO soft it's ridiculous. They can blend super easily. They also can cover flat areas with a thick layer of solid color really easily which makes them ideal for doing anime artwork. Ok, I made a mistake with the skin tones so don't judge too harshly on that. You can see they really stand out on the headband and orange collar with their color density. Obviously with the 150 set of prismacolor you get a much larger selection of colors which can actually be quite daunting for someone relatively new to art.
I think overall I really enjoyed using the Arteza pencils and coloring the arteza side a lot more than I did the prismacolors (literally the second pencil I used on the prismacolor side, snapped the entire led off and had to resharpen)
If you are on a budget then I can highly recommend the 72 set of arteza expert color pencils and you can definitely create some great quality artwork.

Very nice Guide, what paper do you use?
Is it some sort of carton?
I have a question for drawing anime do you use toned tan or toned gray paper?
I love the smooth coverage on the prismacolor side but I adore the dark tones on the arteza penciled but I chose arteza because it’s more adorable and it blends so beautifully
My dad just bought me the 48 set can't wait for them to arrive and your drawing inspired me to invest in them 💖
I am getting the 48 set too!
I'm getting the 72 one lol
Omg my dad just got me some to 48 set btw!!!
Cool I paid my mom in cash to order the 72 pack witch is $41 that is including tax I can not wait she just ordered them today
same lmao
Watching this video was so informative I love prisma and they blend easier but they break and wear down to easy which makes it annoying I haven't tried arteza but watching this I wanna try them I also learn I have so much to learn about coloring and blending your the best bro keep it up
It is really annoying to have it happen with prismacolors! And no problem at all, happy to help and even more happy that you enjoyed the video!
@@FarrellArtist you are one of my favorite artists I love your videos
I believe you can fix the breakage problem using pro art soft core sharpener. The lead for prisma doesn't break when using that sharpner for some reason
Try using emory board to sharpen instead of a sharpener. It saves a lot of pencil and makes it easy to get just the right tip.
I'm so glad I came across this video I was thinking of buying prismacolor pencils but this has changed my perspective completely
Since I recently purchased Prismas, I prefer them 😂
Thanks for highlighting their qualities!
Haha which set did you get?
@@FarrellArtist The 36-set at BlickArt. I was in the US for the holidays and they had a sale. I got lucky 😉
However I'm not sure how to blend them properly without having white dots. Are the pencils enough - does it only depend on the technique? Or do you need a solvent or paper stump? In your video it seemed like you used the pencils only and the result is pretty smooth 👌🏼👍🏻
Cornetto MSc - it depends on how good/experienced you are. I am probably a month ahead of you if you have just started so here are a few pointers. The paper you choose depends on what you’re drawing, a smooth bristol board will work well for 2d, non realistic drawings with not a lot of depth and this will give a very smooth appearance but you won’t be able to layer a lot which can be crucial to how a drawing will look. Paper with more tooth can give you more realistic looking results but it’s a lot harder to work with. The white spots are the tooth of the paper that the pencil is gliding over therefore leaving the white paper showing. To avoid this most artists i have seen who are very good painstakingly work in tiny areas of the drawing with a very sharp tipped pencil so that those white gaps can be filled in, a blunt or round tipped pencil won’t be able to reach into those gaps. Search for “nee yellow” on youtube and watch his recent videos. This is why a good sharpener is helpful, the “kum masterpiece” sharpener or “derwent long point” hand crank sharpener work well with coloured pencils to achieve this sharp point. As for solvent you could use baby oil, coconut oil, mineral spirits such as paint thinner or a powder thinner that i recently bought by “paint and brush” called titanium white. They will all work but i’ve seen many top class artists who use none of these products. A lot of people just use a lot of layers and then use the white pencil to blend the rest together which does work, you could also search for burnishing techniques, hope this helps.
@@Conda17 Hi! Sorry YT didn't notify me and so I read your comment just now..
Thank you for the advice. In the meanwhile I finished a drawing and I just used many layers and burnished them afterwards. I got a really smooth finish and I'm quite happy with it tbh... :)
Cornetto MSc - no worries, i hope it helped 👍🏼
For both pencils the drawing is amazing. I hope you get more subs man. And also nice editing and narrative voice
This is amazing man.I just ordered some arteza myself :)
Oohhh, can you tell me how it went?im kinda planning to order them to..but i you know, hesitations
@@emjibaylon6883 they are amazing :)

Should I buy I’m a artist and really want to get into colouring
I found another great set of pencils they are Fabercastell Gold Faber colored pencils
Just ordered arteza colored pencils thank you for the video 🙌🏻💗💗
I've recently began drawing and prismacolors are out of my price range, would you recommend I get the artezas?
definitely! they are great pencils. just be patient and use very light pressure to build up layers. I've got another video on blending arteza you might find useful.
What about polycromos
@Chi Phan ???
@Chi Phan I shearched on the net prismas were More expensive
@@najmashahin9427 poly chromas are 179 dollars for 120 pencils and prismas are 132 for 65 dollars, even though their not the same amount of pencils the fact that there’s 12 extra pencils and it costs twice as much is way more expensive 😅
I love the information you give, also like that you shouted out ADC, loved the artwork, still making me want to get arteza art pencils, however, imma stick to the castle art supplies pencils as they get the job done 👍
Yeah he deserves the shoutout although it doesn’t really mean much coming from me lol. Where did you get the castle art supplies? Maybe I’ll do a split drawing like this with them.
Farrell Artist I can send you a link to them, they are on amazon as a 72 set, they work quite well will the arteza everblend markets for a more realistic look, but that’s just my style 😂 but you are a great youtube and artist, you should take some credit 👍
There is even a 120 Set on Amazon, if you want more pencils. I really love the Castle Art Supply brand, although the watercolour pencils they have are a little odd to use for my taste. 😅
Silver94ig yeah, I want to eventually get that, although I mostly use them in combination with the arteza markers 👍😂
@@thecalisthenicssentinel8222 I actually have both sets, the 72 and 120. I usually use them in combination with my copics or other alcohol marker, but they are also pretty by themselves. ^^
this is the best comparison because of the 50/50 technique it helps to provide a very accurate comparison
Basically: Prisma color side looks like it was printed. Arteza side looks like it was drawn by a really good artist with pretty good colored pencils
I have prismacolors but I would like to try arteza. What's your thoughts on arteza is it better?
I definitely wouldn't call them 'better' but they are really good and compliment prismacolors nicely. you can use prismas for smooth blending and artezas for details
they are a mix of prismas and polychromos in my opinion
Alright Arteza it is
The problem with Prismacolor has always been the price
In the US I can get a can of 72 Arteza pencils for $39 online while 72 count Prismacolor costs $60
Linda Easley one thing is also that I can get free shipping on arteza.com. With prisma, i’d have to go on Amazon. The problem is just the shipping. Last time I checked i would have to pay 77$ for shipping if i wanted to buy the 150 set.
Thankyou for this review , it out my mind at rest I recently treated myself to the 72 expert set just for adult colouring then after seen lots of negative reviews .. great video thankyou
Hey a fellow lefty! 👍 great comparison video. I'm new and leaning toward getting the arteza set for myself. Was wondering (please don't cringe too much) if you could please do a galaxy tutorial with the arteza set. I think it would be a great way to showcase the set and a good slightly out of your comfort zone challenge. Thankyou for taking the time and sharing your talent with everyone!🎨👍
Omg, never came here before and already found a perfect art speaking 😍 Errr, anyway, great video! Thank you for it 👍🏻
Thank you so much 😀
Ive been using prisma for ever so Ill stay but I may try Arteza at some point. Thanks for the info.
I like both arteza and prismacolor. Prismacolor is definitely creamier. But I think I might like arteza a little bit more so far.
The 50/50 side by side is a great comparison.
They're both great and excel at different things 😃 glad you enjoyed the comparison
This was very useful. Thank you
You're welcome!
I don’t know if it’s just me or does the Prisma side look about more blotchy. The Arteza side looks like it covered ground more evenly than the Prismas
what is the best ballpoint pen to use in outline after colored pencils. i struggle to use the unipen that i bought when drawing it after colored pencils
I use copic multiliners, I've used faber castells in the past too
@@FarrellArtist I’ve used Sakura pigma pens
Hello love your vids! what outliner do you use
Beautiful work and an absolutely great review! Thank you
I also own both pencils and I gotta say even tho the quality of the arteza were excellent I can’t not choose my prisma’s! I even recently got Holbein’s and I still prefer prisma’s. I really enjoyed your side by side thank you!
I know the feeling. I used to live and die by my prismas but I genuinely enjoyed using the artezas more in this drawing!
How long is the repayment scheme for the holbeins? ;)
Funny how people are so divided on these.
I avoid touching my prismas now, they are such bad quality and if you're doing hair it better be short strokes or you end up with a nice crisp line that trails in a mess. I have about 10 different things I was drawing and colouring with prismas and they are all unfinished because it was such a chore to get the colour to look nice. Perfect example is this video, the skin tone I would have quit and tossed it in the unfinished pile of shame.
I really want to try Holbein now, they reviewed very well and their acrylics are awesome.
If you run out of a pencil in Prisma, like white, can you buy a new one? Or do you need to get an entire new SET? That would be a deciding factor for me. Plus I'm not as young as I was once, or strong. And if a softer pencil is easier that would be good too.
I've also heard you can microwave a broken pencil and the lead inside the barrel will mend itself.
Recovering Soul - maybe it depends on where you live considering amazon in different regions keeps stock of different items but individual prismacolor pencils are harder to come across than individual polychromos. All colours are available on amazon in most western regions and i buy individual polychromos all the time depending on what i need. By the way, watch out for that microwave trick. I’ve tried it with prisma’s and the numbering on the pencil shaft contained some type of foil and it nearly set alight. Maybe buy a couple of each brand and see what is easier on your hands. Also, unless you are planning to use the burnishing technique which requires heavy pressure then even a harder, oil based pencil like polychromos relies on many lightly applied layers instead of heavy pressure.
For you which is better to do some realistic draw? For example for portraits, faces, animals and other things definable as realistic. Because they look awesome for an anime character, are they good for a realistic face? Even if Prismacolor are very expensive
Hi I'm not sure on what canvas pad to buy what do u recommend???
I prefered the Arteza side of the image, the colors and the texture everything look nicer.
Very helpful and loved watching you!
8:09 any one noticed that narutos ears are in the opposite colors like the prismacolor side is like the artezas skin color and the artezas ear is like the prismacolor skin!
Amazing artwork! I've tried prisma, but it may have been my fault, they just snapped a bit too often. I mostly only use watercolor pencils. I love how they blend.
I've NEVER had any of my Prismacolor Premier pencils snap while I was coloring, like they seem to have done on you or the artist here. But then again,I don't often mash down very hard on them or sharpen them to a very fine/sharp point most of the time though. And when I actually do,I am pretty careful until it wears down a bit and isn't quite as thin and pointy. Another good option seems to be Faber Castell's Gold Faber line of colored pencils (I bought a few of them open stock from a local art store to try them out). As they seem to have attributes similar to the Prismacolor's:they have good color laydown, they are pretty easy to blend (maybe just SLIGHTLY less easy than the Prismacolors) and they also have pretty good color quality and vibrancy. While they seem to be a bit harder to break and/or wear down,in contrast to the Prismacolors. They also have both the standard AND a watercolor pencil line as well. The watercolor pencil line being pretty good as well.
I've never ever snapped my prisma. It's because I'm light handed person. I think you have a heavy hand.
Prismas snap easily. Someone did a test.polychromos are almost unsnappable
I use both in my portraits.
how do u make the colors look so solid
I wish I can get it but my mom is gonna buy me it you inspired me so much I really want it I believe I would get the 48 please tell me if it’s good
awesome work as always!
Thank you 🙏
Farrell Artist no problem!
I have a question, with the Arteza colors I can create hipperealistic drawings?
Would literally pay any amount to draw like this
I see naruto I click
How do you make it look so flat . Mine is all grainy. Can you please help.
Check out Kristy patridge art’s video on how to use color pencils, she goes over techniques and the types of paper to use
can u please tell me which type of sketchbook are u using
What is the paper used pls? Great work btw
Can you do a?arteza set for different skin tones
I think arteza set is probably better if you are more experienced. They are tough to blend with so being able to get where you want to quicker color wise on the paper is a plus and experience will give you that. With the prisma color it’s easier to work your way up with layers to the color you want. Which benefits novices (while still being a plus for experienced artists ).
It’s less of an issue in anime vs drawing portraits/real life … blending and final color is way more important there
I would say an arteza set and a few critical prisma pencils used together is worth it. Sort of a blend of both or their strengths
I have never enjoyed watching a project more than I did this one. LOVE NARUTO! Do you have an Instagram?
yeah he does its in the description
What black and white liners did you use for the eyes from 6:00 -6:10 ?? Also, what paper are you using? (Loving the videos btw! )
I think He used a copic multiliner and a gelly roll pen
I am also wondering about the paper he used...
Tan paper
Very like darkish paper that makes these colors appear so strong
What arteza colours did you use for the skin please ?! 🥺
Hii, i was wondering where u bought ur prismas from?? i can only find them on amazon for £200 😭

Hi, I loved your drawing and I love naruto💓 But, can you tell me what is the brand of the paper you used ?
I think he used the toned tan paper
Hi! What was white pen you used on the Prisma side? Than you so very much for doing this video! Arteza looks better
I actually have many tin boxes of Prismacolor pencils that are sitting and collecting dust!
I actually have a 120 count Arteza set on its way to me which led me to check out this video! 🙌🏽
Which side do you prefer?
In my opinion I never try arteza I will like to try them I try Prismacolor pencil I guess prefer Prismacolor
Thanks! Seems to be a split opinion on which side is better. definitely give arteza a go if you can.
Farrell Artist true
I prefer the arteza side because to me the skin looks smoother. Do you own any faber castell polychromos? Might be interesting to compare them with the arteza, because their also harder than prismas. Sorry for my bad english.
Just found you through this video, love the galaxy pokemon -> new subscriber xD
Can you do arteza Vs polychromos please?:)

can u do please polycolors koh i noor vs castle art supplies?
What pen/marker did you use to put the white on his eyes???
I think he used a signo ballpoint white gel pen.
How did you find arteza coloured pencils for only 28 dollars/pounds??
Hey there! I ordered a 48 pack of artezas. I’m really nervous to use them as I have never really put my time into coloured pencil art work. I am also really young,12. Do you have any tips or tricks that could help me with my art work? Thx (I don’t even know how to blend a simple coloured pencil ) 😅😂
Hey! I'm 12 too but I only have cheap color pencils but my drawings still turn out great I only started using markers(also cheap) and color pencils yesterday and drew izuku midorya(infinite 100% version) and I colored it and my sister thought I printed it😂 I don't even know how that's possible with CHEAP MARKERS AND COLORS!!!! but color blending wasn't ever a problem for me its actually really easy but try making a chart with some color combinations just think very carefully about all the different textures and try as much as times as you like until you get a result that satisfies you and try rubbing a tissue around your drawing to smooth out the colors but one section at a time so the colors don't blend and spoil the drawing and when shading try using a darker version of the same color to make it look better I hope this helps you!
on the atteza side you only used 1 color on the skin tone on the prisma color side because you had to add another color it is better I think you should have done that on the arteza side as well
Wow!! So glad that I found your channel. I have been going back & forth about buying the Arteza 120 vs. Prisma 150. I already have the 72 & 36 set of prismacolors but I get so frustrated bc I feel like I'm ALWAYS sharpening my pencils over coloring. I also have several pencils in both sets that are split all the way down. I do love prisma but I'm wondering if I just need to go ahead & buy the Artezas now. I'm no professional. I just use them for card making.

Sakura gelly roll gel pens are the most famous I guess.
Hey, what blackliner do you use over colored pencils?? Everyone I've tried always get ruind by using them over colored pencil, I think it's because they get blocked (not so good in english, so don't know if that's the right word for it)
