Both bands are from Jacksonville, Florida and Shinedowns original guitarist, Jasin Todd was married to Melody Van Zant, daughter of the late great Skynyrd singer Ronnie Van Zant. Shinedown got their first break playing at a venue called Freebird Live in Jacksonville. That venue was owned by Judy Van Zant, Ronnie's widow and Judy's mother. The guys used to play this as a tribute to Ronnie and a thank you to Judy. Also, in the video for this cover, a little girl appears holding a picture of a man. The man in the picture is Ronnie Van Zant and the little girl is his grand-daughter. The best comment I've seen about all this is "Most people don't realise, not even their fans, but Shinedown are Lynyrd Skynyrd family."

I highly recommend their songs Sound of Madness as well as their song Monsters..Sound of Madness is another one of their older songs from years ago, and Monsters is off one of their more recent albums i believe from the last 2 or 3 years but i can't remember for sure. They have a lot of great music, but those two are some of my favorite

I was lucky enough to see Shinedown live when they opened for Iron Maiden in Dublin back in 2017, I had not heard of them before that but they completely blew me away.
Brent has an amazing voice. You should check out more of their stuff. I would recommend anything from "The sound of madness" album, "cut the cord" "state of my head" "save me" "my name" "nowhere kids". In case you haven't figured out im a big fan of them 😂
I stumbled onto this band several years back and I absolutely LOVE their music! A few other suggestions for songs by them you might like to react to: "Diamond Eyes", "I Dare You", "45", "I'll Follow You". Also, sometime you should check out the original version of this song by Lynyrd Skynyrd. And their song "Free Bird".
@@jonathanbouthillette753 He does, but the emotion doesn't feel genuine to me. That might be because it isn't the voice I expect to hear. That is my major problem with modern singing it has to sound"good" sometimes a little quiver or rawness undertone in an otherwise great voice makes it better.

They played for Dimebag after his passing and the times I’ve seen the play it live, it’s moving. Ive taken more from this song when Shinedown does it live then Skynyrd. I know it’s not the same Skynyrd that wrote it but when played live it feels like a Shinedown song. In my opinion

This cover was done after the passing of one of Lynyrd Skynyrds members in memory of them since Brent and all of shinedown were actually friends with Lynyrd Skynyrd.
