I think a lot of us can relate to the themes of songs like this. One thing that I haven't seen anyone people catch in reactions to this song is that other people in the library are "reading" books of the same title, "A Symptom of Being Human", but all the covers were different; What I interpreted from that is that the social anxiety and other issues many of us face will look different, but at the heart of it all we are all the same. "We are all just passing through, passengers on a ship of fools".
@@MrSDegnan A very accurate analysis of the song. Greatly appreciate your interpretation of this amazing song. I didn't notice that they were reading the same book with different covers until I watched it again but, yes they were!! Thank you for the insight ❤️
Shinedown is lead singer Brent Smith, guitarist Zach Myers, bassist Eric Bass and drummer(playing a concert bass drum) Barry Kerch. Brent wrote this song about Eric who deals with anxiety and depression. I am a concert photographer for a radio station and have been able to meet them a few times. They put on amazing shows. All of their songs are great. You'd love: Daylight, Crow and The Butterfly, How Did You Love
Definitely check out "Second Chance " ....."How did you love " ..... "Monsters" .....The list is endless , they are just an amazing band , with amazing tunes , with a very special vocalist ... Brent Smith is very very special , he has battled his own demons and it comes out in a lot of their songs .. His acoustic stuff is off the scale , it's a rabbit hole that will keep you entertained and enthralled for months ..
I’m so glad you liked it. This song is being called a security blanket for the anxious mind. Shinedown deals with a lot of mental health issues. They represent suicide prevention for 12 yrs. They hold the record for having the most no 1s on the rock charts & was just named the best mainstream rock band in the last 20 yrs by billboard. Brent Smith is the singer, one of the top singers in rock. I’ve seen them live 6 times going again in October, they put on great concerts. You should go they don’t cus on stage we see lots of kids & I’m a grandma. Suggest “Cut the Cord” I Follow You” Get Up, How Did You Love” If You Only Knew” “Dead 💀 Don’t Die”. 🔥
I'm a big fan of this band, many of their songs including this one touch on topics like mental health, bullying, dealing with your own demons, etc. I definitely recommend "I Dare You", "Breaking Inside", "Hope", "Dysfunctional You", "Second Chance", "Call Me", "If You Only Knew", "The Crow & The Butterfly", "Bully", "Enemies", and ".45".
There’s a story behind this song and the struggles that so many have endured. It’s relatable to so many who’ve been there or been there for someone they love.
My grandmother passed away two weekends ago and I had just heard this song for the first time not long before so almost every time I listen to it I cry.
Oh, oh, you went down the Shinedown rabbit hole. The are a great band with so many fantastic songs. Brent Smith's is one of the outstanding voices out there.
I think that was the point the video was trying to say. We all go through things like this at some point in our lifetime. And that their are people who care and will support you if you let them in. My favorite part of the video is that the end while she's walking out of the library she notices that everyone else was reading the same book she was. "A symptom of Being Human"....We are all on the same Ship of Fools, just trying to navigate through life.
It was more beautiful than words can describe watching the expressions on all of your faces, where certain parts connected to each of you differently but connected in the overall feeling of this song. I hope to see more from all of you.
I also love the video. They show the book of our lives, is being written as we live our lives. And when they show people holding her up it is just like us. In trouble they hold us up, when they are in need we hold them up. It is our friends, family, and even strangers at times, but there are more people then anyone knows ready to help you. When in need people come out of nowhere, and everywhere. No one is every truly alone. As you can see in the end everyone is reading the same book. The story of their lives just like everyone else. It's all just a symptom of being human. 😃♥
Embrace what makes you, you. If anyone you encounter doesn't learn to appreciate you then don't give them your time. One thing that breaks my heart is seeing people try to become someone they're not for someone else that doesn't love them. The world needs different, not more sheep.
.45 was one of their first hits and well worth checking out. They did an amazing cover of Lynard Skynard’s simple man, but “call me” is probably my favorite.
This is my favorite band! Not only is the music fantastic, and the vocalist (Brent Smith) incredible, but their message is profound as well! Check out The Crow and the Butterfly (that’s my favorite song), Get Up, Monsters, Call Me, Through the Ghost, How Did You Love, America Burning… they pretty much don’t make a bad song!
This song is about life and how we all are a little weird in our own way but, it's ok because like the title of the song, it's just a symptom of being human and how we struggle with everyday issues. It's also about mental issues that all of us go through at some point and time and that it's ok.
You should check out Lindsey Stirling (currently on tour). She's like nothing you've seen before I guarantee it. She's WONDERFUL! Start with "Crystalize" and "Transcendence (orchestral)"

I saw them last year on their tour with Jelly Roll (highly recommend his song Save Me) and this year with Papa Roach. His voice is amazing live!

All of those and add in Daylight. Also, their cover of Simple Man is a must.

Love watching you having fun.
"attention attention" is amazing too
Definitely check out their other songs they are amazing. Diamond eyes for something more upbeat, and Daylight is such a touching song.
Shinedown are an awesome band! They have a lot of incredible songs! 👍
It describes everybody. The beauty of the lyrics.
