Poi Spinning Lesson: Orbitals (AKA Superduperuberloops)

- Also known as "orbitals," superduperuberloops have been my pet move for the past year... although I'm still far from mastering it. My mission: to bring thousands more into the joy of superduperuberlooping! (Note: Out of respect for the glowstringing community I do think people should know that they were called Orbitals first.) Come learn poi in Costa Rica! playpoi.com/ev...
Just wanted to let everyone new trying to learn this move to be patient, very patient... I spun poi for hours every week and it took me close to two years to finally feel confortable performing this trick.
Yes, you can do them with chains but only if you have swivels near the handles, then it works fine.
I have been practising this without swivels for a year on and off, just got a decent cole cord leash off firetoys and did it straight away, even did a cheesy victory dance. Thanks Nick your a star!
one tip is notice the way he uses kind of a lop sided jerking motion to get one poi ahead of another, i find it helps to do so to figure out which poi is which; or using different colored poi to figure out which poi is at the top of the rotation and depending on which direction you entered and which way you plan to exit you can learn which needs to be on top at the start of that jerking motion
Hi! Nice video, you are a very good teacher even for me,a person who does not speak so much English and my understanding is very limited, because you I've learnt many tricks but nowadays haven't been able to perform hyperloops :(. Can yo upload some explaining video in slow motion please? I'll be very thanked!
looks like you have a fun life!! I gotta try this
Yup, moving the swivels made a huge difference not only in this move but the hyperloops as well! It did take a day or two to get used to the new setup, but it was worth it :)
exactly! and once you do, it makes for an amazing looking move which never disapoints a crowd
Thanks alot for the tutorial! Just beginning my playpoi action (;D) and people like you are getting me started :) And no, I'm not starting with that particular trick, but nice to know the variety of tricks out there ;O
If you don't have swivels on your poi you can turn and have it unwind on the other side to extend the time it spins
yes, you can do them with chain poi, but it is a million times better if you have swivels on the handles.
i use oval link chain and can make fast orbitals for a good 10 seconds ^^
Your tip at 1:40 was super helpful.
Great video and thanks.
lol i got my fluffy poi a few daysago and changed the way they placed the string and swivels the knot at the end really help to let you no where to catch the center =)
OMGGGG i never knew what play was until this video, going this year for the first time, had no idea the uk had anything like this, PLEASE COME AND DO A WORKSHOP :O
I'm definitely going to use this with fire
ok so i learned this and at first i did em perfectly but then i had trouble getting out of it and now i cant even get out of my hyperloops and im getting very frustrated, help
How did you install swivels on your sock poi without them slipping loose? That's pretty rad.
it does work with sock you just need a shorter thread and it doesnt spin for very long
Once you learn these it's really hard to stop doing them for a while. :D
I'm still having a bit of trouble with this one. I'm a bellydancer too, so I'd love to be able to incorporate an orbital with a backbend in a routine.
Yo! I find it easier from the backwords weave too! lol I just learned it and it's one of my favorite moves.
so
you just have to pull strong once to make the superblablaloops???
I have worked on doing this move off and on for a few months and still have the same problem over and over again. When I enter the move, one tether stays longer than the other when I go to tighten down and the other gets pulled to the head on the tether.
What can I do to fix this?
What kind of poi are being used in the video? Thanks in advance! Great video!
I don`t know how it works with video responses but i did one. Uploaded a video recently with the superduperuberloop with a cartwheel alà Nick W style as I say in the video :D
See you!

So, i am using flowlights with crystal cases (handles attached) but i am using shoestrings... do these things make this trick harder?
mine often come out like kinda crooked and they end up getting kinda knoted together in a way.. help anybody?
I can do it better backwards too, i cant really do it forwards, the vertical orbital is coo
too
can i do that with poi that have chains? i rly need to know
I used to be able to hyperloop behind my back... I think i'm gonna start learning how to abuse Orbtials now =D
Well, i know how to initiate an orbital but now i have a big problem with going out of it. My pois bouncing of my forearms and tangling, or starting to spin oposite to primal direction. I can't "feel" the right moment to get out of orbital or i just can't do the right move.
Any clue how to make it right?
The Superduperuberloops are actualy called orbitals if you were spinning glowsticks.
Coolness!!!!!!!!! I'll still call them orbitals, but superduperuberloops might slip out a few times just because it's a fun term!!!!!!
oh man these are hard to get perfect.
Hrmmmmmm..... I think I need to move my swivels from the heads to the handles...
why dont you try it? ;)should be possible
mine keep tangling
If you are as good as him, you can call this shit anything you want.
WE NEED SLOW MO REPLAYS!
Yessssss!, I did it! :-D
Putz Hyperloop eh dificil ¬¬
I've finally learned how to do orbitals, and I couldn't be happier. They're so much fun and a great move to master after several months of stagnant trick activity. Now that the Nova Scotian winter has come into play, I'm focusing on learning a lot of wraps, spirals, and just inward tricks as it's tough doing six petal antispins with a ceiling above your head.
yes because metal chains are able to twist really fast -_-
no
Very nice tut on orbitals! It's interesting to see the swivels on "sock" poi, I'd never even considered that. Needless to say this type of move is a bane with normal socks (due to the twist and lock problems).
Peace and thanks!

hi nick,
thank you very much for putting all the effort into making poi lesson vidyos like this one. really helps me understand those moves and makes me wanna see more ;)
so pls keep posting those lessons
once i get this move down im going to do a video response with me doing a flip in it lol
Yea, orbitals do not work with sock poi. Socks twist up really fast.
I have some poi that are made with some fairly thin rope. I tried to do an orbital with them and every time I would pull, the ropes would start to shred against each other from the friction. Just a warning to anyone who might read this to check their material.
I also have poi with tais and since I have very little practice with orbitals, the tails almost always tangle the whole move. Not a good move to learn with tailed poi.
Nick, you're sooo good at this. I can only do it sometimes... I never know when it'll actually happen... it just does. Its very mysterious... a mystery I hope to solve soon... where do the superdupperuberloops come from... & where do they go? I can do it to the right behind my head, but only from floor plane to catch them. But left is a stinker...
tell me about it, i guess there was no worse time to discover the world of poi then now, i already fabricated a short-circuit (if thats the right word for it) in the whole house. xD but with 3 beat weaves, im far away from making orbitals.
lol this rlz looks like i will start spining poi lol like this move a lot.the name is a little bit long but i love it if i learn it i will try a side flip while doing it looks like fun wish me luck :D:D:D
this guys got me crackin the fuck up lol...your hella good tho man, i just made the transition from freehand glowsticking to poi, now im lookin torwards firedancing and this helps alot
Very cool! I learned hyperloops before learning what they were called. :P But I think I like superduperuberloops better.
Yes you can, i´ve seen it before, but i thinks it's a little bit more difficult :-) I trying to learn it too
Nick you are a poi god!!!
Thanks for sharing. Great vid.
Now, I just have to go find some swivels...
:)
I've seen nick do it with chains, I have managed to do it but it's really hard to untwist them..
swivels on your chains will help
Genialny kolo :)
nice :]
Arnt these just orbitals?
sweet, thanks a bunch! :D
damn ur good.
Will this work on a chain poi or it have to be a string?
I needed 1 Month for this Move, but i love it :3
Dude I love how he's all like happy and yeah :D

intro is too long
