    If you stick a tray down and there is movement in the building the tray will crack as its basically a big thick tile. 5/1 sand and cement mix for the tray to sit on. Every building moves and a few mm can crack a tray if its stuck down

      No, flexible tile adhesive.

    • @MadDog_Rules
      @MadDog_Rules 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Nope, if you use a flexible/rubber tile adhesive, this allows for floor movement, without it affecting the tray. If you use a sand and cement mix, you need to lay a membrane down first. You always need a buffer between movement and fixed/static.

    Hello,
    You should try to use vacuum cups to hold the tray when puting it into postiton. I think you will like it.
    Also, a smal vacuum cup on a rod would to help you screwing that stuf without having to leave your hand inside it.
    Cheers!

    There's little agreement to be found on this topic. You're all just doing your best and getting by. The shower is the hardest item in the bathroom because it is so inaccessible when it does leak and will need to be destroyed in order to fix it. Arm yourself with as much fundamental logic as you can bear and good luck to you how it works out. The worst that can happen is having to do it all again down the line in this existence we call life. If you want to know any answers regarding the meaning of life if indeed there is any, do not look any further than youtube itself. But by the time youve watched it all, it might have run out and you'll regret ever reading the comments section in the first place.

    My recommendation is to follow the manufacturers installation instructions which for a stone shower tray will almost certainly be to bed it on sand and cement.

    A classic recipe of how to cause your shower tray to crack.All buildings move a little,by bonding the tray to the floor at some point the tray will eventually crack.The secret to properly installing this type of shower is to follow the manufacturers instructions!

    Ideal Standard's instructions for these trays do state that a min 10mm bed of ceramic floor tile adhesive could be used or sand and cement with a plasticiser. Maybe some of the comments telling you to read the MI should read it themselves 😅

    I'd be wary of using tile adhesive as it's too strong and can lead to tray cracking, Manufacturer's Instructions usually say use a WEAK sand and cement mix for this reason. The cement is not to stick the tray to the floor but to simply allow a load bearing surface. Follow the M I s or lose the warranty.
    Why not call Ideal Standard and ask if tile adhesive is ok?

    I personally lay tray
    Draw round it
    Cut floor tile to fit but don’t fix floor tiles
    Then remove a bit floor board and then can get hand under neath shower tray to put tray on
    Then test with water for leaks ,
    Doing it your way , how are you 100 percent sure your trap isn’t leaking ?

    nooooo! tile adhesive is a bad idea! Sure way for it to crack if any movement... if you do use it then you need to leave the plastic sheeting on the bottom so that it beds down but DOESN'T stick.

  • @boyasaka

    The shower tray should not be stuck down to the floor
    There is no need what so ever , and if it is stuck down with tile adhesive, and there is any movement in the floor , if the shower tray is resin , it can crack
    Just bed the tray on some cement and just use silicone to stick the 2 edges of the tray that are against the wall
    The tray isn’t gonna go anywhere just cos it’s not stuck to the floor

      @@johncoen1468 Thanks, the tray manufacturers insist on sand and cement for a reason I've spoken to some of them. Most "experts" on You tube use anything but , including tile adhesive and even silicone. I think even Roger B does one using tile adhesive, I usually rate his input.

    • @annastarkey9284

      I was watching skill builder earlier as my husband and myself are looking for tips, he did say you can use tile adhesive but put a plastic sheet between adhesive and tray so that the tray doesn’t directly stick to the adhesive. If stuck directly to the tray he said any movement in the house, floor etc might crack the shower base.

      Just fitted a Mira tray and the instruction said stick down with either sand cement or silicon. I’ve used ct1 for years and never had any issues. Obviously I make sure that the substrate is suitable and solid. The manufacturers sell leg kits for most of the trays available in the uk so sand and cement is a right load of cobblers. If the tray can withstand the weight of an obese guy with say 5 legs it can certainly withstand that weight on the floor. If anything the suction of the tile adhesive could suck the tray and crack it.

  • @tomvincent5596
    @tomvincent5596 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    That's the whole idea. You don't want the tray to be stuck down. Tile adhesive will crack the tray. Sand and cement beds the tray and doesn't adhere.
