- This is the trailer I built. It's just over 70 lbs empty. So far I haven't found the weight limit yet, but I can stand on it and bounce around, I weigh 220lbs and it holds me easy.

Alas my trailer has been, shall we say, "liberated" from my back yard. Guess I will be building another soon.

Exactly what I need! I'm 13 so I can't drive and I'm starting a lawn mowing business so this would pull the mower and more perfectly.

This is exactly what I need. Very nice job I intend on using it for hunting and camping. We have some great public land to hunt but you can only walk or ride a bike. During the hunting season you can imagine you have to go a ways to find the animals.

I've finally found something that can help me with my lawn mowing business!!!! I normally have to push the mower across the neighborhood and it's tiring and motivates me less. Now that there's this, I can put my weed eater and mower and possibly the blower and get to places quicker without the terrible sweat. I FRICKEN LOVE THIS. It's a cheap, easy idea that anybody can do at home!

Im a retired welder and I can't tell you how many times I use bedframe angle iron cuz it's free. Great vid....gotta go...my wife wants a trailer like yours. Thanx .... By the way...you may get away with 3/8 in. pipe for the tongue. That's what I will use.

Very Nice Idea! The Bed frame mounts could be used to mount a Front wall / Mud guard for the trailer by having the screws mount in a slot with wing nuts or have a hinge in the middle to let it fold onto the lugs and have something ( screws )to keep it in place once installed.

I am making one, I looked at all the other vids on bike trailers and while they also offer great ideas I don't like welding or attaching crap to my bike. Using an eyebolt that you can take off easily is genius. I have a large pipe and an eye bolt that I can copy your project with.
I know that if I had a trailer that big the temptation to overload it would be well nigh onto irresistable! But, I applaud your ingenuity just the same.
It is a constant battle between my mind and my legs. Thanks for watching
Hi, Scott. Maneuverability is good. It's nice to watch. It's worthwhile to carefully place the weight of the load on the cart to reduce the load on the bicycle axle. I recommend installing the limiter on the coupling so that you do not press down your legs during such steep turns. While the cart is empty, it will not hurt so much Legs, if pridavit.No that's when the load ....

I was looking for ideas on making a sturdy canoe/utility cart and run across this...very nice!
Thank you. I suggest building one a bit bigger though. My kayak does not fit between the wheels unless I turn it on its side. This was built to fit easily down a sidewallk. There is an overpass not far from my house that has a walkway on either side that has a concrete wall on one side and a fence on the other of the walkway so space is limited as far as width. Another option would be a mounting system that would keep the canoe about the wheels. This however would change the center of gravity a lot.

yiu can make an even better hitch by gettin a heavy duty spring drilling 1 hole in either end and then drill a hole in the eyebolt stem ,put it in the spring and line up both holes and bolt in place attach the other end by drilling a hole in the trailer stem ,then place the spring over the stem pipe line up holes and bolt in place ,this meathod also eliminates the initial pull at the start that you would feel with weight on the trailer and the stress on the hitch and seat pole awsome build mate
I absolutely have thought of that. Everytime I go up hill haha!! I've watched a few videos on "push trailers" as I call them. They look really cool, but it's just not the direction I wanted to go for this project. This was to be a basic design that could work for many different things depending on your needs.

That's a nice trailer! Very large bed to it! I have a child's trailer and I loved taking my daughter to the grocery store and go shopping with it on Sunday's. It had the hitch by the axle, which was great because it allowed me to keep my rack and panier bags on the bike. I'm wondering if a stout rack can be welded to the bike and the hitch be attached to the end of the bike rack would be good. You might not be able to do the turns like you did with the centre hitch, but it would still work!

Well I will say this. One day a friend and I went for a test ride so to speak. Left out of my house with a 20inch dirtbike on it and rode across town. No problem at all. On the way back we were to swing by another friends house and pick up a lawnmower. Regular walk behind pushmower. There were yardsales along the way. I ended up with: an ab lounger, misc electrical parts, a BBQ pit, and the mower. Now on flat ground, no problem at all. Uphill is a totally different story.

Great trailer design, very straightforward! I do wonder if the pipe tongue has had any problems with wanting to flop over at all? I'm making a trailer with similar structure, but smaller, using mainly aluminum angle. I'm using 26" bike wheels to match my tow-bike, although I haven't done anything with the tongue yet. Good point about using the expanded metal as attachment points. I don't have expanded metal, but left the corners sticking out beyond the basic rectangle of the trailer bed.

I don't have a welder, looks like I'm going to have to make this out of wood. The eyebolt thing looks good, but it seems limited as most trailers have to accomodate yaw pitch and roll. The yaw is good, but the pitch is very poor unless the connection on the seat is loose. There doesn't seem to be any roll flexibility, I worry that if I drop my bike or make a sharp leaning turn (like motorcyclist do) i'll break something.

the L-Bracket can be used for attaching straps to, this can secure your load
Also I wanna ask you Wat you used for your axle for the tires I finished mine yesterday towed it around all day and I had a steel rod tht went through both tires as the axles reinforced with rails on each side and it bent and the steel rod broke
@fordlukebo then i put a bolt on the trailer as a hitch. after that, i put the 5th wheel on my dolly for now. i hitched it up to my trailer like a semi truck and trailer. it works just fine, but it took a little modification and its alright now. =)
i have a 7foot trailer i have made it is a bumper pull type and i am wondering what is better attaching it to the seat post or frame?

@TheRBLP Mostly i use it to drag around stuff i can pick up. If I can't lift it on to the trailer, then I surely don't want to be dragging it around with my bicycle.
Actually the wheels are standard front 26 inch bicycle wheels. The axels are unchanged. There are notches cut out that the axle slides into, just like on a front fork. They are cut into the outside supports and the inside of the axle rides in a similar notch cut into a small peice of angle iron welded to the bottom of the bed. If you look close you can see there is no soild axle that run between the wheels. I hope this answers your question.

how did you attach the wheels? did you weld the metal part just to the frame?
I made a trailer last year and i put a tongue on it for a bumper hitch style. turns out its not very good with heavy loads, so the next year wheich is this week, i took the tongue completely off and made me a homemade 5th wheel and a frame as a dolly for the 5th wheel.
Use the pieces you saved for the corners for possibly lights?
If you know how, you can use 2 "L" brackets on the bottom back of your trailer to attach bicycle turn signal/brake lights which you can find on eBay and Amazon; or a separate turn signal and two individual bicycle wireless smart brake lights; which I plan on incorporating on a future project of a bicycle trailer for my (MBC: My Bicycle Chronicles); otherwise I would love to see any further modifications you make

@cichlid62 Well the only suggestion that I would have would be, either a single wheel trailer, or one that has an axel closer to the rear axel of the bike.

It could even deliver carpet if the wheel on the trailer was set back about 2.7 metres so that a 5 metre roll of carpet could be carried with 2.5 metre ether side of the rear wheel on trailer plus clearance from the bike etc -
It could also have three compartments eg grocery delivery eg fridge and freezer and parcel box - the fridge and freezer could be solar powered via a solar panel etc as fast food and grocery delivery is huge at the moment
It has so many uses even a jet wash machine or window cleaning etc plus great as an advertising vehicle

At 5:25 Option 1: The Brackets :))), you should have put them in the back and then you can attached Safety Reflectors :)))). Too late now so you can Weld those Bracket in the back and then you can attached Safety Reflectors. Option 2: Use them in the Front both sides and Weld a Stick on it so it will be a Stand when you take your Trailer apart :)))

Hey did you have any problems with it swaying once you built it? I built my own trailer and I have tried to find some forums on this but due to actual trailers for vehicles I have had trouble finding one. I know that on my trailer I need to replace the wheels because they are not true but I was just curious if you had the same problem and what you did to fix it (anything else besides the wheels).

I am using the same materials with a slightly different design with a solid bottom and sides about 16 inches tall now I am trying to figure out how to add ribs like for a covered wagon and stretch a tarp across I am thinking pvc pipe but I am hung up on some sort of attachment point on the frame I want to be able to take it up and down the over all goal is something I can sleep in and haul gear any advice would be great
Yes actually. I was thinking along the lines of the same thing for mine. My idea would be galvanized pipe at the corners, say 2-3 inches tall, that the outer diameter would be the inner diameter of PVC pipe. slide PVC over the pipe and drill holes through each mount for a bolt or pin... Good Luck

@VooDooAssassin2 Well the only trailer I have pulled is this one. But I would think that the frame type hitch would be stronger. The main reason I went with this type of hitch, was to be able to pull the trailer with just about any bike, without modifications to any other bike. Long story short, if a friend wants to borrow my trailer, they can use their own bike that is set up the way they like it.
