100 Rental Cars i’m glad I stopped renting from my local enterprise they’ve never had cars available and when i try to go because whenever i drive buy my local branch there always cars parked when i ask the manager comes up and replies “we already have those cars booked” in a rude tone so now i rent at a branch in another county and I also rent at the airport locations most of the time. Have you ever had this experience?
No, but that's probably because I rent so often. I also try to book my cars a month out or more. In my experience, the local manager makes less money if they have unbooked cars on their lot, so they try very hard not to have any cars just sitting there available to rent.
Very weird. I have a 2018 Malibu Premiere. I tried this and had much different results. Started the car, put the key fob on the floor of the garage and left. Less than 50ft from my house I received the same error... then a call inside the car from an OnStar advisor to verify that the owner was in fact driving the car. I was required to verify all personal info. Haha this almost got my car reported stolen! LOL!
Lmao the second key was in the car. If u noticed when he opened the door and closed it again it honked. That honking is altering u saying that u left ur keys in the car. My car does that.
The car also chirps when no key is detected to let the normal person who isn't throwing their key fob out the window to let you know that its very possible that the key fob battery has died.
yup exactly what I though because that only happens when you leave the key in the car but how did he get the error message to show even though there was a second key? just curious lol
@Dean B why would you remote unlock it after you remote turn on to begin with. I leave my car running for my dogs and lock the car from the outside using the fon only and take my fob with me. It wont let me lock it other ways.
I tried something similar with my 2020 Blazer and I was able to drive down the block from home. I didn't go too far because I didn't want to have to strand my car in the middle of the road. The car did immediately give an error that the remote was not detected but it let me put it in gear and drive away. I am surprised that you can even put it in gear without the fob. It would be much more secure if you could not put it in gear.
I believe there is a 10 minute limit before it shuts off cause I have the Cruze and my wife waited in the car while I ran into the store and I left the car running and she said the car shut off by itself. I had the key fob on me in the store. So maybe you could test that theory too
I own this car. I do like that you can start the car, get out of the car and lock it with the key fob to safely warm it up on cold mornings. I always wondered what would happen if someone broke the window and drove off.
Today, being a good husband, I started our 2019 Chevy Tahoe Premier with my wife's key fob to warm it up and scrape ice from the windshield so she could take it to an appointment. She came out, hopped in, and, without either of us realizing that I still had the fob in my pocket, drove about 10 miles while the fob was with me at home. She discovered it when she turned off the engine and the dash displayed "no remote detected". She then called me and I drove our other car to deliver the fob to her. I'm researching how to prevent this from happening and ran across your video. Will read through the comments here to see if there's a solution. Thanks for the video.
I've always wanna try that, and I am still wondering what will happen if you throw the key out while driving lol. I'm currently renting a Jaguar XE in Florida, maybe I'll try it sometime. lol. Great video!
I drove a 2018 Chevy Impala Premier and it’s very sensitive with its key. I could just hang the key out of the window and the key would honk and give me the no key message.
That's the entire reason the car wont lock you out bc it will let you drive it without the fob if it falls out of your pocket after the 1st initial start with the fob. It's a good security issue. But I wander if it will let you lock it if it breaks down coincidencetly at the time you dropped the fob
I own a 2017 Malibu. Started my vehicle and accidentally through my keys out with my trash on the way out of my community. I drove 10 miles away and did turn my vehicle off. I was unable to get back into my car when I came back. I had to take a taxi home and realized along the way I accidentally through my keys out in the trash. I found them and had a friend take me back to my vehicle. Long story short when you vehicle is fully started you do not need your keys to drive.
On the way back to Phoenix coming from Vegas. Stopped at Willow Beach lookout. Set my keys of the 2018 Equinox we were in. Forgot they were there when getting into the vehicle and drove away. Made it to Kingman (40 + miles away ) before we noticed. drove back to look for it but it must have fell off while driving and it was to dark to search 40 miles of road. HAd to keep the vehicle running whil filling with fuel to get home. Parked it and the vehicle informed me of the no keyfob but I could restart. 10 min or so late S O L
We have two Prius, one is a 2010 and the other a 2017. If the remote leaves either of them the car freaks out, you can still drive it but it’s not happy. If you shut it off it doesn’t restart.
Really?! That is my worst nightmare. I'm constantly checking to make sure I have the keys for my rentals. I heard they charge you $100+ for lost keys. Is it true?
100 Rental Cars yes. They don’t really charge you to make money because it’s fairly expensive to replace the keys in general. Lost the key for the impala and paid like $250 or something
I have a 2018 Chev Malibu LT. What I don't like about it is the key fob thing. I always lock my car doors when I go shopping or after I've parked it for the night in our parking lot. I keep the fob in a Faraday pouch to stop the signal, otherwise I don't know if my car is truly locked or not. When keep the fob in the pouch, shut & lock the door., I test the doors to see if they're locked. When approaching the car in the morning (fob still in the pouch) I guess the vehicle senses the fob & I find the doors are unlocked. This is about the only thing I do not like about this car.
Idk how to feel about this. I feel like at some point it shouldn’t let you start the car because otherwise, what’s the point of a key fob. But my coworkers 2014 Altima wouldn’t start with the key inside due to a dead keyfob battery..
It's a safety feature you started the car now if you shut it off it says hey you need to go get the key the if you got far away you'd be happy , it's warning you so you know you left it somewhere go get it , also if it starts for you then your not stranded if it can't move no one can move it if that makes sense , really cool feature I'm a forgetful person
I’ve done this with my Malibu considering that I live in Florida and it’s hot if I know that I’m making a short trip I’ll leave my car running but I take the key with me and lock the doors once I leave my car
I don’t know if you’ve done this in the Chrysler 300, but inside mine the vehicle continues working but the start chime gets extremely annoying, and constantly blares.
No, I haven't tried it on a 300 yet. But I like that set up. I don't know what your preference is, but all I want is the car to tell me I forget my key. And... I'd prefer it not work after I turn it off. I don't want someone driving off with my vehicle.
100 Rental Cars I agree with you completely. But also, if the car is left in the on position with the fob out, and someone gets in with it still on, the car will not start and will just blare the door chime, until the car is in the off position.
In my Honda HR-V it will chirp a few times outside the car to say it's running without a key detected (like if you got out without turning it off), a message pops up on the dashboard, and if you shut it off without the key it cannot restart.
Not sure why it kept starting with the key fob 100's of feet away.. I own a 2018 Malibu and it won't start even if the fob is a foot away from the car....
I'd like to test this on my Altima. I know my car chimes at you and the display says it cant detect the key but the Nissan service department said that if the car loses detection of the key (like because of a dead battery) the car goes into a limited drive mode that prevents you from exceeded 40 mph as well as a couple other things. They also said something about a range limitation but I don't remember.
Really? That makes a lot more sense to me. I mean, the car shouldn't work for long without the key. I wanna do this again, and when I do, I'll try out the range limitation too. Maybe I can just drive around the block a bunch and see if/when the car shuts down.
My neice had a Altima and she left her key at my home drove to the store by her home. When she got back in to start the car it wouldn't doing anything. She lived a good 25mins away.
Unfortunately the same happened to me I drove my car from a shop and didnt realize i left my keys i was able to drive my car about 45 minutes away about 48 miles and my car was able to run then it still started and I was able to drive all the way back to get my key and I have a 2017 Malibu lt
Ugh, that must have been annoying. On the plus side, at least you could restart your car and drive back. I tested this out on a Nissan recently and the car couldn't be restarted. So, if you had been in a Nissan, you would have been stuck. Yet another reason I love the Malibu. Anyway, thanks for the great comment. 👍
My friend drove me to the airport using my car, Chevy Traverse 2018; but I forgot to give him the key, and he drove away with no problems. There was traffic on the way back, so he turned the car off, but could not turn it back on. They could not even put the car in neutral to tow it
If you were in a less desirable location does this mean if you were near the car someone could get in it and drive off? Or you just could have a old fashioned key
I think so. It was pretty cold when I filled this, so I didn't wait very long after I tried to lock the doors. Maybe the system will reset after 5+ minutes of sitting without the key fob around? I'm not sure.
I have a 18 malibu and when i drove away from my home without my key cause my son forgot to give my keys back to me after he ran in the house. I was stranded when i got to work 20miles away and turned my car off and looked for my keys to enter my workplace i realized i didnt have my keys so i imediately tried to start myy. Car and guess what!? It wouldnt start!
Uggg, what a nightmare. I guess this set up is better, right? I mean, I don't love that you can't lock the car. But at least you're not stranded. How did you manage to get home?
@@100RentalCars I had to call a family member to drive to my house and get my keys then bring those keys to my work. I'm actually currently trying to get GM to buy the car back because it has so many defects. The most important one being that it stops mid accelaration whenever it wants.
The Chrysler’s are the exact opposite. Like if you get out the car. It will lock the turn dial so you won’t leave what the car. The car won’t lock or anything. And if you get out the car and don’t sit on the seat, I don’t think the key matters if it’s in or not. But if you get out your Chrysler300 it will shift the gear itself back to park if it detects you not in the car when you have it in reverse or drive. I totally forgot to put it in park when I got off to check and see if I was parked straight. And then I started to see the car roll 2 inches up. And then the car made this crunch noise from the transmission to stop itself and then stopped and the car got mad at me lol. It was like PUT IT IN PARRRK!
Maybe you didnt go far enough because this happen to me. I started the car and left my key at home. Went all the way to work and when I got there that's when the car went crazy. Wouldn't start or anything. 2016 fusion
This literally just happened to Me i left my keys at the babysitter's and usually if it's not detected it stops but it ran the entire time until i got them back a little concerning now but grateful i was able to let l get my keys tho🤔
My 2018 chevy malibu shuts down after about 150 yards away from the key Phob. And it won't start back up until you put the key phob back into the vehicle.
as someone that rents these cars i drive them without the key all the time just leave the key in the office with it running. Only one that wont is ford.
My daughter has a 2019 Equinox that will drive and lock without the key fob. Once the vehicle is shut off it will NOT start. She has been stranded a couple times and had to have her husband bring her the key fob. Once she was over two hours away. Very bad system in my opinion. The vehicle should tell her immediately that the key fob is not present when she puts it in drive
About a month ago I forgot to pick my keys back up off the table and left without them. Literally the second I turned the car off at my destination I realized I forgot my keys... and it didn’t start back up. The car started beeping at me when I closed the door but like an idiot I thought it was beeping because I didn’t have my seat belt on.
My key fod is totally done i had accident grand child got my keys and when she seen me coming she threw they went into the fire all i have is the key can you please HELP ME
Agreed. Plus, you have the change the freakin' battery. The fob on my Kia minivan dies every eight months. That means every eight months it costs me money to use...the key.
@@100RentalCars I've had my 2017 chevy cruze for almost 2 years and in the time that I have had it, the fob battery hasn't died on me once. Also prior to that I had a 2014 nissan rogue for 4 years where the fob never died
Hmm. Interesting. I actually left my Fob in the trunk to see what would happen. Interesting stuff happend. I couldn't get the trunk to open and I was stuck for a min. I finally got my trunk to open and got the fob. At that point in time. I turned my Malibu on and my car glitched up saying I had no gas; and no stability trac. My engine light came on haha. Idk what happend
I have a 2016 and it fell out if my pocket while I was pumping gas and I was I. The car and it wouldn’t start back up I opened the door and it was right next to me lol
This was shocking to me because i drive a 2017 malibu and it is very aware about the fob, if i took it out of the i immediately get a notification and if the fob is low on battery it would also constantly notify me.
Sorry to I say that, But Chevrolet is very poor about electronic and software in car’s,I give the company some reports about my Chevy Malibu 2016,but I can’t believe their answer!! They told me you don’t buy TESLA😮 One of the my problems was this: When I leave the car and try to lock the door by remote and one of the door is not close! But 3 doors going to be locked and one of the door still open and car don’t give me any attention or alarm about that !!!!!
If you press the lock button twice it should beep if everything's in place. If there's no beep that means something's abnormal.. like an unlocked door.
If the battery dies you can open the door with the key then put the transmitter in the special slot in the compartment behind the gear shift and the car will start.
Waste of time. If you spent that much time with your experiment? Try valeting your vehicle, check out of a resort, load up your car, and drive away. Only having to stop one time halfway home at a gas station. You turn off your car, get gas and find out you are now stuck cause the valet forgot to hand you your keys that remained on his carabiner. So much for that 10.00 tip.
It only allows a restart for a limited amount of time, it does this because of course to start the car you have to have the key fob so if you're out and the key fob battery does you're not stranded but you can't go restart it after it's been about 30 mins maybe an hour.
I have a 2018 Chevy Malibu Mass do not do that it locks it won't crank up without the key you throw the key far away and try to crack it up it will not crank up 🤷🏾♂️🤷🏾♂️🤷🏾♂️

Badass video I've always wondered the same ha
Maybe you didnt go far enough because this happen to me. I started the car and left my key at home. Went all the way to work and when I got there that's when the car went crazy. Wouldn't start or anything. 2016 fusion
This literally just happened to Me i left my keys at the babysitter's and usually if it's not detected it stops but it ran the entire time until i got them back a little concerning now but grateful i was able to let l get my keys tho🤔
When you travel do you stay in a Hotel?
Plot Twist: He threw his fob in the trash.
My 2018 chevy malibu shuts down after about 150 yards away from the key Phob.
And it won't start back up until you put the key phob back into the vehicle.
Seems it would be much more secure if you could not even put the car in gear without the remote
as someone that rents these cars i drive them without the key all the time just leave the key in the office with it running. Only one that wont is ford.
What if you throw the key out and it breakers like just open your door and set it somewhere instead of throwing it.
Forgot the fob at home one day and bro crashed his car same day on the way back after getting the key.
It was a Chevy and funny thing is we left it on knowing the key was at home but the car shuts off on its own which got us stranded
My equinox just let me drive 4 hours from home with the key sitting on the counter.
Uggg. So did you have to call someone to bring you your keys?
100 Rental Cars Yes... But lucky I was only a mile away from home. And that was the day of my accident so I was probably pretty scatter brained.
Try this with a japanese car...like a camry or an accord...and see if the same thing happens 😎
Will do! I also have a Kia minivan I'm thinking of trying this with tomorrow.
I have a 17 sentra and my car will say no key detected when the fob isn't near the car, if I drive away and then shut it off it wont restart
why malibu's rpm go too high . for example rmp goes easily to 3 to 4 just on normal speed
Dhaliwal Pb29 some come with turbos. Those produce higher RPM’s.
Mine runs well.
2018 Middle East specs
I have a 2017 Chevy Cruze and I forgot my key at home and my doors locked on me 😭
I just drove 20 minutes away with my key left at home
My key fod is totally done i had accident grand child got my keys and when she seen me coming she threw they went into the fire all i have is the key can you please HELP ME
I like ordinary metal keys. Why add complexity and cost for nothing?
Agreed. Plus, you have the change the freakin' battery. The fob on my Kia minivan dies every eight months. That means every eight months it costs me money to use...the key.
Convenience that’s something.
Christopher Calder Older Metal keys are a pain to use.
@@disneyfan9099 no they're not lol
I tried the same thing only I covered the key fob in aluminum foil instead of throwing it out the window... lol
This was shocking to me because i drive a 2017 malibu and it is very aware about the fob, if i took it out of the i immediately get a notification and if the fob is low on battery it would also constantly notify me.
Do u have locking problems with youre doors
@@franswatroublesworth8317 I have a locking problem that started happening after i crashed.
My bf got out of my car once and I was gonna go to Starbucks and he had my keys and I went and came back without my key 😳 (it was a vw Jetta 2017 tho)
Got mine today!
Congratulations!
What? If I don't have the fob, my Dodge will not start. Period.
Me seeing the tile what? WATE?WHAT?
Sorry to I say that, But Chevrolet is very poor about electronic and software in car’s,I give the company some reports about my Chevy Malibu 2016,but I can’t believe their answer!! They told me you don’t buy TESLA😮
One of the my problems was this:
When I leave the car and try to lock the door by remote and one of the door is not close! But 3 doors going to be locked and one of the door still open and car don’t give me any attention or alarm about that !!!!!
If you press the lock button twice it should beep if everything's in place.
If there's no beep that means something's abnormal.. like an unlocked door.
Somebody already did this with their Ford Fusion 😂😂 check out AutoVlog channel lol
I did! That was a great video. Maybe next time I'll copy them and throw the keys out the window.
@@100RentalCars #savage 😂🙌🏽🔥 ⚔️
Do anyone know how to lock the trunk of a 2017 Chevy Malibu?? Mines want lock even when lock the doors
The trunk should stay locked when the remote isnt near the car.
Come on people It's so your not stranded if the key fob runs out of battery
If the battery dies you can open the door with the key then put the transmitter in the special slot in the compartment behind the gear shift and the car will start.
@@rixlan yes but if your driving down the road and it dies you don't want the car just to shut off or derate
How about 0-60
Waste of time.
🤔🤔🤔 I just bought this car on Dec 23rd, 2020
Congratulations! Despite my criticisms in this video, I really do think it's a great car. I think you'll be happy with it for years to come.
So safe….
It only allows a restart for a limited amount of time, it does this because of course to start the car you have to have the key fob so if you're out and the key fob battery does you're not stranded but you can't go restart it after it's been about 30 mins maybe an hour.
I have a 2018 Chevy Malibu Mass do not do that it locks it won't crank up without the key you throw the key far away and try to crack it up it will not crank up 🤷🏾♂️🤷🏾♂️🤷🏾♂️
lol... it's just a remote fob, not a real smart key.
i have the same car had since it came out at that noise you hear at 2:40 is the noise the car makes when you leave the keys in it and get out as soon as he closes the door it makes the noise. Videos fake.
this video is a lie, he had a second key fob in the car.
So anyone can steal your car by pushing the door button jump in and away yhey go.
👍👍👍
👍👍👍
It starts so people don’t have to walk all the way to they’re house from Walmart to get the key
Interesting... 🤔 💭
Nifty
O security.
