I will never emotionally recover from seeing Hydaelyn, of all people, crying because I called her by her name, Venat. Easily one of the most beautiful moments in the Endwalker MSQ.
The first time I heard it, I always thought it was like a lullaby that Hydaelyn/Venat was singing to the WoL/Azem. Actually reading the lyrics + the interview Isihikawa and Soken did, it's much more like a lullaby that Hydaelyn is singing for every soul as they die and reach the Aetherial Sea. Comforting them and reassuring them that they will be reborn.
Yes, it sounds beautiful and during cutscenes youre distracted, especially as non native english its harder to actually hear the lyrics. Once you can actually listen to it, it hits so much harder...

(So as your soul is descending into the sea to be cleansed of memories and begin the process of rebirth. Another soul is passing you on it's way out having completed that process already) "With your unbeating heart, wish them well." (Exactly as it says, wish the soul about to be reborn good fortune because you'll rejoin them eventually)
I called her that as well and when she gave us that reaction I smiled but kinda cried because I could tell from the way she moved something was hurting her before she even drew her weapon on us....Knew what was gonna happen and was not ready for it since Venat was a wonderful caring person

I remember I doubted her ever since Heawensward up until Venat was introduced in Endwalker. I feel so guilty for ever thinking she'd betray us...What a wonderful character.
Well i feel no guilt and i still despise some her decisions but overall she only played her part and had to do, what was foretold. And she payed her price for it...
Honestly, I think this was an intentional feeling the writers wanted us to have. They gave us every reason to doubt that Hydaelyn had the best intentions for us, but through our interactions with Venat we got a clearer picture of what drives her, and it slowly brought us back to trusting her. It wasn’t a “twist” that was revealed all at once, it was more of a reaffirmation of what we had always known since the beginning. And what’s really beautiful about it, at least to me, is how much it mirrors a real relationship between mother and child. I get the feeling most people have a moment while growing up, where we doubt our mothers, or strive to separate ourselves from them and be our own person. Not everyone, obviously, but we all have to realize eventually that our mother is human. And being able to love your mother, through all her flaws and missteps she might have taken raising you, is a beautiful thing that I feel is captured brilliantly by this song and this moment.
It's all a team effort though, Soken's instrumentation, Koji's lyrics and Amanda's singing. Her singing for Tomorrow and Tomorrow, and Flow just gives the songs so much more kick.

We could choose to call Hydaelyn "Venat" earlier, and she doesn't cry then. Now knowing what the original Japanese text is for the bottom answer, it makes much more sense why she is overcome with emotion and sheds tears. We assure her that mankind - her children - will survive and live on long after she is gone, which is what she wishes more for than anything else. "Has your journey been good?" After 12,000 years, we gave Venat our answer.
This expansion felt very surreal because it wrapped up the past 8 years of my life, and it’s crazy to see how i’ve grown too alongside my WoL, so many amazing memories and friends made in the almost past decade. Thank you FFXIV dev team.
I love the comparison between rain and the soul. Rivers and lakes remain as different bodies of water. But like rain, when the soul returns to were it came from it is cleaned and returned to the world to join it's new place in whatever place the world gives it.
God I hope Flow gets the Distant Worlds treatment. It would be a real experience to hear Amanda's vocals live supported by a full orchestral and choir. There will be tears.
Yea tried re-play it a few times and started several new characters just to look at details I have missed when i was a sprout but still cannot get any close to the first seen experience
I like to think this was a lullaby that Venat sang to Azem as a child and whenever one of Azem's incarnations died and went back to the lifestream she would sing this to welcome them back.
Nothing wrong with admitting it. FF XIV's story, certainly for MMO conventions, is so goddamn strong and emotion-evoking. I forgot to count how much I've cried for the story somewhere in Shadowbringers...
I knew and had a feeling this was gonna happen to her but when the music started and she cried as well smiled at the end I couldn't help but cry. Still do. She was there from our beginning to now...I admit I did not wanna fight her but I knew we had to. Least for her final moments she went knowing the world she loved and their people was sage in our hands...her chosen...her friend...and her child
Goodbye Hydaaelyn...also known as Venat our friend. Was not easy to do what we had to do and it hurt but may she rest now knowing we will protect this star in her stead
Hearing this song months after endwalker and reading the lyrics brings me back to the most emotional rollercoaster of story I've ever played. The sound team is absolutely incredible. I hope their work touches as many hearts as possible.🙏
I love how Venat’s design and story encompasses so many themes and messages to the players. She is the gift from the dev to players telling how great our support have been to the effort to revive and maintain FF14, that our adventure have been fun and worth it. Her design also resembles the lady Buddha who is often a source of comfort and salvation in real world religion. Because of so many doubts going into Endwalker, making her the Buddha tells us that something like a primal can be a source of good. And like the Buddha she gave humanity the lesson that life is suffering, but from suffering the happiness that can be attained from it is whole and worthwhile.
It's already been months since I completed Endwalker and I still can't listen to this seriously without my eyes watering especially whenever it hits 3:01 :'3

I knew what was gonna happen when we defeated Zodiark but this scene still got me hard cause she was there from the very beginning of our journey watching over us, Protecting and guiding us. Then she tested us and dies with a happy smile on our face knowing us her children was strong enough to protect what she dearly held close.
We all do, but she is now gone for good, knowing her beloved people would protect their home well in her absence, knowing despair will claim us no more.
I love this song. It has no chorus, it doesn't loop around like the other songs in this game, and it's just there as a journey on its own. Never quite the same melody, just exploring the entire musical spectrum. Truly, a flow of sorts.
This song didn't need to be played over and over for a zone, for example, compared to Ultima Thule's theme. Flow is for fairly specific moments, like Tomorrow and Tomorrow was. They'd lose their emotional impact if you heard them more frequently. Soken does like to keep the leit motiffs for whatever expansion he's scoring for, as you can tell from hearing certain pieces of the song in other songs. It's also worth noting this song took a long time for Amanda to record because she would break into tears singing it. It's nice to know that we're not the only ones, I say.
I can't help shedding tears remembering all that Venat had to go through alone, the scorn and rejection of her entire race and standing firm in spite of all the suffering and pain of seeing her whole world in ashes. this wonderful story will remain forever in my heart, thanks to yoship and his team for giving us this wonderful work of art.

It may just be my interpretation, but one thing I really enjoy from the Endwalker story and how it was all tied up at the end is that Hydaelyn/Venat's faith in our WoLs story from the beginning of FFXIV to the present day wasn't because she chose you but because you've told her about your exploits. She knows you'll make it through everything that'll get in your way because in her eyes you've already done it all to be there in that moment, no matter how dangerous or troubling it was. She essentially always knew that you would stop the Empire, put an end to the war between dragons and men, liberate Ala Mhigo, save the First from the light and subsequently live to tell the tale. And so she calls out to you at the start of your adventure to give you the push you needed to perpetuate the temporal cycle needed to ultimately save Eithyris and all of existence. This song, to me at least, conveys the fact she always trusted that you would reach this point to finally meet her for one final dance to show that you've both met and exceeded her hopes and expectations.
The thing that gets me is how it flips the script on the blessing from the divine trope. We find out we are a sharded version of azem. Sure cool, but to find out we were her successor. That she once trusted us to carry on her legacy, and then post sundering, she sought us out again because she has ALWAYS trusted us. Not as a divine god might trust her champion, but how a mentor and a friend would trust their contemporary and companion. It makes our relationship to Hydalyn so much more intimate and it has me in years every time i hear this song. Ignore spelling mistakes im on mobile

Isn't it heart wrenching... when the plot twist was that there was no plot twist. That she loved us all along, and will forever after... Even though her soul does not remain.
@Octagon Emet was pretty convincing with setting Zodiark up to be a savior of sorts.. and Hydaelyn destroying and breaking him apart and the world sounds kinda of evil, right? Also the fact that she stopped talking to us (because she had no power), which kinda allowed us to imagine all sorts of reasons ..
@Octagon With Shadowbringers revealing that she and Zodiark are primals and the Ascians are tempered by Zodiack, I felt like it was pretty clear that the WOL and Scions were tempered by Hydaelyn which seems manipulative and like it would have some repercussions. So I was very distrustful of her at the start of Endwalker. I felt like she was keeping stuff from us and was annoyed that she kept possessing Krile. So I felt extra bad during this scene when it was revealed that she loved and supported us the whole time :(
I started crying when this song began to play even though I couldn't understand the lyrics. Now that I finished Endwalker, I am even sadder. Rest in peace Vernat, and may we ever carry on.
This part is so sad. Much like Emet-Selch, Venat had to spend so much time alone in order to save her beloved people of Eitherys. Except the only difference is she knows the truth of Meteion and that the sundered deserved a chance to fight for hope. After all of those years there was only ONE person that could remember her. Us, the shard of Azem. It must've been so hard for her to watch over us and get into so much danger in her behalf. Only for us to understand and forgive her, and promise we'll fix the world she couldn't save herself.
When the time comes I'm going to sing this song , even if I just hum it, to my loved ones as they *go into the flow.* It brings me comfort, and I hope, so to, to them as well.

When all is said and done, this will be remembered as one of the very best songs Masayoshi Soken ever created. Front to back, it is a masterpiece.

I knew what was gonna happen when we defeated Zodiark but this scene still got me hard cause she was there from the very beginning of our journey watching over us, Protecting and guiding us. Then she tested us and dies with a happy smile on our face knowing us her children was strong enough to protect what she dearly held close.
I still miss Crystal Mommy....
We all do, but she is now gone for good, knowing her beloved people would protect their home well in her absence, knowing despair will claim us no more.

This song makes me start to cry every time I hear it, without fail lmao. It's like a gentle, loving embrace.
I love this song. It has no chorus, it doesn't loop around like the other songs in this game, and it's just there as a journey on its own. Never quite the same melody, just exploring the entire musical spectrum. Truly, a flow of sorts.
This song didn't need to be played over and over for a zone, for example, compared to Ultima Thule's theme. Flow is for fairly specific moments, like Tomorrow and Tomorrow was. They'd lose their emotional impact if you heard them more frequently. Soken does like to keep the leit motiffs for whatever expansion he's scoring for, as you can tell from hearing certain pieces of the song in other songs.
It's also worth noting this song took a long time for Amanda to record because she would break into tears singing it. It's nice to know that we're not the only ones, I say.
It's nice that lyrics are included, but how do you expect me to sing along when I'm crying my eyes out.

I can't help shedding tears remembering all that Venat had to go through alone, the scorn and rejection of her entire race and standing firm in spite of all the suffering and pain of seeing her whole world in ashes.

I don't think I've ever had a song bring me to tears every single time I hear it.
It may just be my interpretation, but one thing I really enjoy from the Endwalker story and how it was all tied up at the end is that Hydaelyn/Venat's faith in our WoLs story from the beginning of FFXIV to the present day wasn't because she chose you but because you've told her about your exploits.
She knows you'll make it through everything that'll get in your way because in her eyes you've already done it all to be there in that moment, no matter how dangerous or troubling it was.
She essentially always knew that you would stop the Empire, put an end to the war between dragons and men, liberate Ala Mhigo, save the First from the light and subsequently live to tell the tale. And so she calls out to you at the start of your adventure to give you the push you needed to perpetuate the temporal cycle needed to ultimately save Eithyris and all of existence.
This song, to me at least, conveys the fact she always trusted that you would reach this point to finally meet her for one final dance to show that you've both met and exceeded her hopes and expectations.
The thing that gets me is how it flips the script on the blessing from the divine trope. We find out we are a sharded version of azem. Sure cool, but to find out we were her successor. That she once trusted us to carry on her legacy, and then post sundering, she sought us out again because she has ALWAYS trusted us. Not as a divine god might trust her champion, but how a mentor and a friend would trust their contemporary and companion. It makes our relationship to Hydalyn so much more intimate and it has me in years every time i hear this song.

@Octagon it's a trope so old and common now it's a shock when it doesn't happen.
@Octagon Emet was pretty convincing with setting Zodiark up to be a savior of sorts.. and Hydaelyn destroying and breaking him apart and the world sounds kinda of evil, right? Also the fact that she stopped talking to us (because she had no power), which kinda allowed us to imagine all sorts of reasons ..
@Octagon With Shadowbringers revealing that she and Zodiark are primals and the Ascians are tempered by Zodiack, I felt like it was pretty clear that the WOL and Scions were tempered by Hydaelyn which seems manipulative and like it would have some repercussions. So I was very distrustful of her at the start of Endwalker. I felt like she was keeping stuff from us and was annoyed that she kept possessing Krile. So I felt extra bad during this scene when it was revealed that she loved and supported us the whole time :(

I've long since finished the original MSQ of EW but I came back to this now, and cried all over again.
I started crying when this song began to play even though I couldn't understand the lyrics. Now that I finished Endwalker, I am even sadder. Rest in peace Vernat, and may we ever carry on.
This part is so sad. Much like Emet-Selch, Venat had to spend so much time alone in order to save her beloved people of Eitherys. Except the only difference is she knows the truth of Meteion and that the sundered deserved a chance to fight for hope. After all of those years there was only ONE person that could remember her. Us, the shard of Azem. It must've been so hard for her to watch over us and get into so much danger in her behalf. Only for us to understand and forgive her, and promise we'll fix the world she couldn't save herself.
When the time comes I'm going to sing this song , even if I just hum it, to my loved ones as they *go into the flow.* It brings me comfort, and I hope, so to, to them as well.
