Thanks :O) I don't brush him or anything - that is just how he looks all the time :O) I attribute it to coming from a great breeder and by giving him a really awesome diet. I feed him Wysong Ferret Epigen 90 and frozen thawed mice every other day. (Gross, but really healthy for him! I never feed live mice.)
I feed Joey Wysong Ferret Epigen 90. It is a great kibble. Search on google for the "More Dooks Ferret Food Chart" for assistance selecting a great food. ALso, some people feed raw to ferrets. You can search for the Holistic ferret forum if you're interested in going that route. Joey also gets mice every other day (not live), Its gross and took me a while to get used too but its very healthy! I plan to do a video on this topic at some point.
Train each ferret alone in a separate room. This will help them not get confused on what behavior you're rewarding. This may be impossible for litter training however.
thats awesome! :D i love your videos. keep doing them! and also, how long should you play with them/let them out and just go where they want/ walks? Thanks in advance! :)
Joey is out of his cage for most of the day. Ferrets need at least 4 hours outside of the cage interacting with you and playing. This will help them stay happy and healthy :)
Its true that ferrets do require a lot of time and attention and they can be a little messy. Ferrets need to be out of their cage and played with at least 4 hours a day. They are a little bit more work than a cat, but less work than a dog. If you really want to get one I suggest reading and learning as much as you can about them. Ferret do require vet care and get shots each yr like other pets. Maybe you could see if there are any vets that treat ferrets in your area and talk to them also.
He is up for 4+ hours, but the time is broken up. I play with him most of the time, but he wanders around on his own also. He likes to play with his toys :O)
I have a ferret name Sable, she Wonderful but when I let her out to play. She doesn't use her litter box. Her sister Jinxy does all the time no mater, if she in her cage or out playing. Any ideas that I could try. Thank you
I've never had more than 1 ferret so I personally do not have any experience with this. I have heard of people taking more than 1 out at a time. Just realize that they aren't like dogs and they just sort of go wherever their brain leads them - so with 2 you might be outside a while but might not move forward in a straight line very far :O)
This is awesome! I'm trying to teach my baby girl to stand but she just can't seem to focus for more than 5 seconds! She's 4 1/2 months old, does anyone have any tips to help me out?
Hi! My Roomate just got a ferret and i think he is great! ( Oscar) I am going to help train him and i love all your tips! I was going to build a "play city" for him where he can travel from building to building in plastic pvc pipe. I dont think the plastic and the glue used to connect the pipes would hurt him, we drink water that travels through the same type of pipes. What do you think? Thanks :-)
When you get joey out for the 4 hrs do you play with him the whole time or do u play with him then let him do his own thing for a while? (I know the 4hrs might be split up) thankyou x
Joey learns better with the hand signals, but I'm sure other ferrets would do fine with just the voice command. It just depends on the ferret :O) Joey doesnt always respond when I do the voice commands without the signal.
Well he seems very intelligent and he is adorable :) .I didn't realize how smart they are! They aren't like a rodent they are kind of like a dog! I bought a ferret a few weeks ago (my first ever and yes she was an impulse buy which i know is stupid ) She won't sit still while you hold her she's always on the move. i wish she was a bit more personable. Do you know if this will change at all as she gets used to me? When she is in her hammock in her cage she will snuggle up to your finger but the moment she is out she only wants to run. Its fun and entertaining but i wanna hold her! lol
This is normal especially for a young ferret. Joey was the same way! As they get older they will get more snuggly but it takes a lot of time holding and working with them. Once your ferret runs around and gets a lot of energy out, its the best time. Try to hold her when shes worn out :O) She may still squirm since she's young but just keep at it. She'll learn to trust you.
Laike Wang Yes. I keep all of my treats healthy so that its high quality and not "junk". He also only trains 5-10 min per day and gets little bitty pieces during that time.
Do you think ferrets create special bonds with their owner? Or do you think they don't care if they get passed around? (I don't have a ferret, just curious)
How old is Joey? We just got a ferret the other day. She's only 6 weeks old. She has aready learned to come when she hears her squeaky toy. And follows me around. When she's free I have left her cage open and she will get back in there to use the potty. She's also doing great with rolling over for a treat. She's only bite me once and that was when I was giving her chicken and she got a bit of my finger by accident. She even gives kisses on command. Is this normal or did we just get a great tempered ferret.
Deaf ferrets don't react to loud noises (unless they can feel the vibration from the floor). 1 way to test it is to hold a ferret near a vacuum but with their back to it so they arent looking directly at it. Start the vacuum and see if there is a reaction. You can also let them stay on the floor for the test but realize that deaf ferret can still feel the vibration of the vacuum. My hearing ferret would run under the couch. The deaf ferret would walk up to the vacuum & look at the spinning dirt
Ferrets eat meat. Period. Some people feed raw and some feed kibble. For the best kibble options, look up "More Dooks Ferret Food chart" on google. If you want to try to feed raw, search for the Holistic Ferret Forum. They have a lot of information on this. Do not feed your ferret anything other than meat. Their body is not made for it and can cause serious medical issues.
Awww cute little ferret when you wanted him to just stand up you can tell he reached out his paw to give you a high five!
I love how your socks matches your shirt:) Love FERRETS SO MUCH!
You're very patient and that's what most people will lack doing this. Gooood job!

Thanks :O) I don't brush him or anything - that is just how he looks all the time :O) I attribute it to coming from a great breeder and by giving him a really awesome diet. What is the treat youre giving to your ferret ? 😊
I've never had more than 1 ferret so I personally do not have any experience with this. I have heard of people taking more than 1 out at a time. Did you make min the little ball he uses to dunk?
No. I got it at a local pet store in the cat toy section.
Just wondering, can ferrets be fed "too many" treats?
Laike Wang Yes. I keep all of my treats healthy so that its high quality and not "junk". He also only trains 5-10 min per day and gets little bitty pieces during that time.
Thank you!
Do you think ferrets create special bonds with their owner? Or do you think they don't care if they get passed around? (I don't have a ferret, just curious)
They are very social animals and do bond with their owners.
🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
