    Thank you for the tips. I like the complete look of square drills, but didn't like the uneven placements. I switched to round drills for awhile and found them easier. I'm back to square drills and a larger canvas. It's been interesting. I'll be looking for more tutorials by you.

      I love the fact that they offer both square and round so there's something for everyone's preference! And I think switching back and forth between them (like you're doing) is a fun way to switch it up! Let me know what you think of squares with your second go-round!

    @1:43 minutes, that you're talking about Discarding The Bad Square Drills... You can take an Xacto Knife and Gently Smoothing It Out by Discarding Any Extra Resin Sticking Out by Gently Shaving It little by little until it becomes a nice Square. If there's one's that have an Extra Resin Sticking Out and the rest is Square just cut it off Gently 😍
    I finished your tutorial and I have to say IT WAS ABSOLUTELY SUPERB 👍👏👏👏 This is the BEST TUTORIAL I have ever seen on Getting Perfectly Square Straight Drills 😍
    Thank you very very much. I will keep coming back to this tutorial quite often until I get it down to a science. Well Done! 👍❤😍😘👏👏👏💯

      First of all, thank you for your kind words! It makes my day to hear from lovely people like you! ☺️
      And thank you for the tip about smoothing out trash drills! I have tried cutting off the excess before but didn't have too much luck with it. 😕 So I found it quicker to just put the trash drills aside. But that is why I save them, just in case I run out of drills and then I can go back and try the cutting technique you suggested!

    I have to say this has been the most helpful video I’ve come across for using tweezers. I was having trouble setting drills in corners with the tweezers and your method is so helpful.
    I also love, love, love the idea of using the light pad to remove the bad drills. Pure genius. It’s so painful trying to remove them as you go, and it’s been a challenge not having the right lighting.

      Thank you for the kind words! And yes, removing the drills prior to placing can be a pain as well, but I tend to like doing it first and getting it over with so I can just get in the zone once I start!

    I'm hopefully going to start trying this, and I really appreciate seeing this tutorial. I saw one on rounded drills, and I didn't like the way that painting was looking. What a difference with these square ones. This to me really pops out the picture. The rounded ones almost seemed to make the paintings look cheap. So, I've already learned to do square ones versus rounded. It also looks tedious, but then again, I can see how this helps with anxiety where one would really focus. I'm going to bookmark your site so I have a good reference to go back to. Your voice is also calming and the talking is a nice speed, pretty easy to follow along.

    It really makes a lot of sense to invest in a good quality kit. Quality kits contain very few rubbish diamonds. Cheap kits usually contain poor quality diamonds with lots of second-grade diamonds & we don't usually find this out until after opening it.
    A few DP tips I will share with you to have a more relaxing DP experience:
    - instead of a lightpad, I use a headlamp with rechargeable batteries;
    - I use a tilt table to help prevent neck, shoulder & back pain;
    - Sit on an ergonomic office chair on castors when working on large canvas so you can quickly move from one end of the canvas to the other without getting out of your chair;
    - take a break often to give your eyes a rest. Stretching arms helps with blood circulation;
    - play your favourite tunes & enjoy getting lost in your DP world! 😁

    Wow, I just discovered your videos, and I'm new to the craft. I've been watching tips and tricks videos while waiting to receive my first kit. I'm so impressed that you take the time to explain how and why you do things a certain way. Plus, I find myself becoming short of patience when searching through tons of videos. So pardon me if I come across as being brutally blunt. I think it's got to do something with me being a what I like to call a " seasoned person. Yes, I just hit the big 60. Anyway, my point is I find that so many TH-cam videos have a tone that seem to make me want to rush though them or completely moving on to the next one. • @ChristinePhethean
      @ChristinePhethean 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The latter. You have to carefully place the holes over the drill area. Sometimes there is a very slight difference and so near the edge and on the top it is noticeably off. In these cases I only use the ruler up to where I know it will fit. Hope that makes sense. I have a ruler each for square and round.

    Thank u. My first square was a nightmare. Drills popping out and so crooked. I was embarrassed to let anyone see it. It was so frustrating. I've been sticking to rounds. But another diamond painter told me that since my confidence is better now and my rounds are all nice and straight, then I should try a small square one. I have a stash of about 20 paintings and there's a few squares in it. I bought them just because I loved the image so I'll give it a try. I love the way you shake that tray! I have to watch that again! Are you using a different kind of tweezers than the ones you normally get in the kits?

    Fantastic video, I've yet to start diamond painting at all but I'm watching tips in advance. This is a super clear video and it makes me excited to get started :) p.s. if you put the timestamps in the description without parentheses, it will automatically make them into chapters in the video timeline, if you're interested in that.

    Thank you for the tips! Have finished my first DP today with round drills. I would like to try one with square drills soon. The thing I am nervous about is that I have an auto immune illness and get pain from using tweezers for just a few minutes. Think I'll look for tweezers for disabled people and see if I am able to use that on DP without too much pain.

      @@karrisneipen You most definitely can do them without tweezers if you end up finding it easier to use the pen! I just prefer to place them in the checkerboard pattern first and find that I can be more precise with the tweezers. But lots of people do it just with the pen.

    What a great video! Thanks for sharing all these tips and tricks that I would not have figured out on my own. Your work is spectacular! What I'd like to know is, which companies do you find to be the best for having paintings with no gapping between drills? I've tried multiple companies and have been surprised that even the most expensive companies have the gapping issue. Of course when asked why this is the case I am told it is for the purpose of the making sure the drills don't pop off and that the glue will shrink as it dries and tighten everything up, but I haven't found this to be the case. I've gotten lucky a couple of times and gotten paintings where the drills fit perfectly together. Not only were they a dream to work on, and the finished product was absolutely beautiful, but even as they dried out the diamonds stayed in perfect order with not one popping off. Have you found any companies that consistently produce paintings where the drills fit nicely together, with no gapping?

    • @DiamondDelight
      @DiamondDelight  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Pam! I agree with you in that I hate gapping!! I was hoping the DAC wouldn't gap bc it's so highly reviewed, but I get gapping with them too! Honestly, I think the best fitting drills I got were off a random AliExpress company. It was called Naifei, but I have only ordered that one from them, so can't speak to their consistency. Let me know if you find any other good non-gapping ones!

    Thanks for all your tips and tricks which work equally well on round drills as well!!! Love and use them all especially the checkerboard when I can. I am working on my 6th canvas (round drills) and for the first time I see gaps between the drills, I can actually see part of the number! Any ideas on what I am doing wrong or remedy this! Great idea to check for bad drills before starting....I usually sort as I go along. As usual I am late to the party - I just saw and bought my first canvas at the dollar store last year!!! I have yet to see square drills!!!

    Hi. I just stumbled on your channel as I am surfing for tips and tricks to us on a massive canvas ("Mini Soul of the Rose") which will be a two/three year project. This episode was very useful even for a veteran diamond painter like me. Please let me know if you have an episode on how to store large canvases while work is still in progress - other than leaving them on my draft board. I want to pack away my canvas and accessories when I entertain family and friends, but do not want to risk harm to my canvas. Can I roll the canvas and it back in the original tube? Thanks much!!

    • @DiamondDelight
      @DiamondDelight  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi! I don't have an episode out yet, but may make one if that would be helpful! I tend to place a protective sheet over my entire painting and then put it in between my mattress and box spring. But you can roll them up as long as you roll with the diamonds facing out. I don't tend to roll mine since I get paranoid, but I have heard others do it without issue.

    I still pick up my tweezers and love the checkerboard method. Do you multi-place at all?

    • @DiamondDelight
      @DiamondDelight  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I tend to single-place most of my diamond paintings, but I'll use a small multi-placer every now and then! Most of my paintings thus far have been pretty confetti-heavy, without much color blocking, so that may be part of it. The one I'm currently working on will have some bigger color-blocking sections so I made use multi-placers more on this one! Do you use multi-placers?

    Great video! Questions. Where do you get pens with wax loaded inside? And how do you store your completed large paintings? Thanks again!

    • @DiamondDelight
      @DiamondDelight  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Jane! Good questions! I actually haven't come across a pen with wax already loaded in it. I usually reload it as I go! I have seen pens that have a rubber-y/wax tip though (usually used for nail art / picking up rhinestones) so maybe you could try one of those!
      As for storage of large paintings: I found a large piece of cardboard. I put my paintings on top of that and then put the whole thing under my mattress. Between the box spring and the cardboard, I feel like it's pretty supportive! Put make sure to cover your paintings with a protective layer so they don't get fuzz/dirt on them!

      I got my pen with wax it's called quickstik for 10.00 in it on eBay. U also can get them off Amazon to but I'm an eBay girl. I always find that eBay is cheaper. If you do get one there is people who shows you how to use it. There's a lid on it like a pen u take that off and you twist the bottom of the end on the pen very slowly bc all you need is just a tiny bit to come out. And it lasts me along time b4 I have to give it another slight turn. If u turn to much then it just keeps flowing bc of the pressure for turning it to far. And there is on the other end of your pen a tool. It has an end that looks like a flat head screw driver and u can pull it out and on the other end of that is a fine point on the end and turn it around and place it back in your pen and now u have your tool with the point that's sticking up. I've had my pen for maybe 5m and I still have lots of wax in mine it goes a long way. They say you can refill your pen which is called sticky tack which I also got on eBay for 10.00. I find myself using it much more then any other pen they have out there. It's well worth the money.

    I just started diamond painting and found your video very helpful. I now want a nice pair of flat-edged tweezers to help. What I would like to know is what is on the left-hand edge of your picture (not the taped plastic card stock)? When you placed your drills against the leftmost edge at first, it looks as though there is a white card frame there. Is it? Thank you.

    • @DiamondDelight
      @DiamondDelight  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Pamela! Yes the tweezers are a game-changer!
      I don't think I place anything on the left besides the taped plastic card. There is a white border around the sticky part of the canvas...maybe that is what you are seeing? If you can provide me with a time in the video where you see it, maybe I can further clarify!

    What kind of tweezers do you use and where can I buy them! Very nice lesson on square drills! I am working on my first square canvas! I have been diamond painting for 2 years! The first few minutes I said I think I made a mistake, but after a couple hours I wasn’t so upset!. What wax do you use in your pen? Do you multiplace with squares? Which ones do you use and with what wax or glue! I was using glue dots ,notyourmama’s mud but now I am using white museum putty. I watched diamonds and Washi so I thought I would go back and try it again! Thank you! Ricki💙💎

      Hello, I use Tweezerman slanted tip tweezers. They have them on Amazon: amzn.to/3AmLPf9
      Yes, you start to get the hang of it quickly, huh?!
      I just use the typical wax that comes in the kits, nothing fancy! I used to not multiple very often, but I've found I've lost patience on some of the bigger paintings so will multi-place when I get bored of a color haha I usually use the 4 multi-placer with regular wax.
      If you're curious about any of the other tools I use, I made this video outlining it and added links for everything

      Hello! That IS a big one! I'm not too sure how many bottles of glue you would need (I don't seal my paintings) but maybe you could ask someone at the craft store. The product details may list how much surface area it can cover as well.

If I make one wrong live it bounce on the tray they all get rearranged and I start from the beginning. I noticed DAC is starting to have too many square paintings and I don’t like this.
