    Thank you for the tips. I like the complete look of square drills, but didn't like the uneven placements. I switched to round drills for awhile and found them easier. I'm back to square drills and a larger canvas. It's been interesting. I'll be looking for more tutorials by you.

      I love the fact that they offer both square and round so there's something for everyone's preference! And I think switching back and forth between them (like you're doing) is a fun way to switch it up! Let me know what you think of squares with your second go-round!

    I have to say this has been the most helpful video I’ve come across for using tweezers. I was having trouble setting drills in corners with the tweezers and your method is so helpful.
    I also love, love, love the idea of using the light pad to remove the bad drills. Pure genius. It’s so painful trying to remove them as you go, and it’s been a challenge not having the right lighting.

    • @DiamondDelight
      @DiamondDelight  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for the kind words! And yes, removing the drills prior to placing can be a pain as well, but I tend to like doing it first and getting it over with so I can just get in the zone once I start!

    Wow, I just discovered your videos, and I'm new to the craft. I've been watching tips and tricks videos while waiting to receive my first kit. I'm so impressed that you take the time to explain how and why you do things a certain way. Plus, I find myself becoming short of patience when searching through tons of videos. So pardon me if I come across as being brutally blunt. I think it's got to do something with me being a what I like to call a " seasoned person. Yes, I just hit the big 60. Anyway, my point is I find that so many TH-cam videos have a tone that seem to make me want to rush though them or completely moving on to the next one. But I find your's to be very soothing, not to mention extremely informative. Yes, I did hit the "like" and "subscribe" buttons.

    I'm hopefully going to start trying this, and I really appreciate seeing this tutorial. I saw one on rounded drills, and I didn't like the way that painting was looking. What a difference with these square ones. This to me really pops out the picture. The rounded ones almost seemed to make the paintings look cheap. So, I've already learned to do square ones versus rounded. It also looks tedious, but then again, I can see how this helps with anxiety where one would really focus. I'm going to bookmark your site so I have a good reference to go back to. Your voice is also calming and the talking is a nice speed, pretty easy to follow along.

You can take an Xacto Knife and Gently Smoothing It Out by Discarding Any Extra Resin Sticking Out by Gently Shaving It little by little until it becomes a nice Square. • @ChristinePhethean
      @ChristinePhethean 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The latter. You have to carefully place the holes over the drill area. Sometimes there is a very slight difference and so near the edge and on the top it is noticeably off. In these cases I only use the ruler up to where I know it will fit. Hope that makes sense. I have a ruler each for square and round.

    I just started diamond painting and found your video very helpful. I now want a nice pair of flat-edged tweezers to help. What I would like to know is what is on the left-hand edge of your picture (not the taped plastic card stock)? When you placed your drills against the leftmost edge at first, it looks as though there is a white card frame there. Is it? Thank you.

    • @DiamondDelight
      @DiamondDelight  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Pamela! Yes the tweezers are a game-changer!
      I don't think I place anything on the left besides the taped plastic card. There is a white border around the sticky part of the canvas...maybe that is what you are seeing? If you can provide me with a time in the video where you see it, maybe I can further clarify!

      @@karriqueen You most definitely can do them without tweezers if you end up finding it easier to use the pen! I just prefer to place them in the checkerboard pattern first and find that I can be more precise with the tweezers. But lots of people do it just with the pen.

    I still pick up my tweezers and love the checkerboard method. Do you multi-place at all?

    • @DiamondDelight
      @DiamondDelight  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I tend to single-place most of my diamond paintings, but I'll use a small multi-placer every now and then! Most of my paintings thus far have been pretty confetti-heavy, without much color blocking, so that may be part of it. The one I'm currently working on will have some bigger color-blocking sections so I made use multi-placers more on this one! Do you use multi-placers?

    Thank u. My first square was a nightmare. Drills popping out and so crooked. I was embarrassed to let anyone see it. It was so frustrating. I've been sticking to rounds. But another diamond painter told me that since my confidence is better now and my rounds are all nice and straight, then I should try a small square one. I have a stash of about 20 paintings and there's a few squares in it. I bought them just because I loved the image so I'll give it a try. I love the way you shake that tray! I have to watch that again! Are you using a different kind of tweezers than the ones you normally get in the kits?

    I know that this video is older, but it is extremely helpful. Do you do any multi-placing? Any tips on that? I'm about to start my first square project? Can you tell me what you use as far as wax or putty to place AB diamonds? I don't want the coating to come off when I place them.

    • @DiamondDelight
      @DiamondDelight  9 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      Thank you! I do multi-placing for large color-block areas sometimes, but I find my placement is a lot straighter when I single place.
      For wax, you can use the standard wax the kits come with. It won't remove the coating from the AB diamonds, but I do usually find that I have to replace the wax more often w/ AB drills.

    What a great video! Thanks for sharing all these tips and tricks that I would not have figured out on my own. Your work is spectacular! What I'd like to know is, which companies do you find to be the best for having paintings with no gapping between drills? I've tried multiple companies and have been surprised that even the most expensive companies have the gapping issue. Of course when asked why this is the case I am told it is for the purpose of the making sure the drills don't pop off and that the glue will shrink as it dries and tighten everything up, but I haven't found this to be the case. I've gotten lucky a couple of times and gotten paintings where the drills fit perfectly together. Not only were they a dream to work on, and the finished product was absolutely beautiful, but even as they dried out the diamonds stayed in perfect order with not one popping off. Have you found any companies that consistently produce paintings where the drills fit nicely together, with no gapping?

    • @DiamondDelight
      @DiamondDelight  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Pam! I agree with you in that I hate gapping!! I was hoping the DAC wouldn't gap bc it's so highly reviewed, but I get gapping with them too! Honestly, I think the best fitting drills I got were off a random AliExpress company. It was called Naifei, but I have only ordered that one from them, so can't speak to their consistency. Let me know if you find any other good non-gapping ones!

    Great tips! I’m working on the Parthenon Greece diamond painting. It’s squares. Do you find that it’s twice the amount of work? If I make one wrong live it bounce on the tray they all get rearranged and I start from the beginning. I noticed DAC is starting to have too many square paintings and I don’t like this.

    • @DiamondDelight
      @DiamondDelight  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi! I don’t personally feel like squares are more work. But technically speaking, more square drills fit in a square inch than round drills. So for the same sized painting you will technically place more drills in a square DP.

    It really makes a lot of sense to invest in a good quality kit. Quality kits contain very few rubbish diamonds. Cheap kits usually contain poor quality diamonds with lots of second-grade diamonds & we don't usually find this out until after opening it.
    A few DP tips I will share with you to have a more relaxing DP experience:
    - instead of a lightpad, I use a headlamp with rechargeable batteries;
    - I use a tilt table to help prevent neck, shoulder & back pain;
    - Sit on an ergonomic office chair on castors when working on large canvas so you can quickly move from one end of the canvas to the other without getting out of your chair;
    - take a break often to give your eyes a rest. Stretching arms helps with blood circulation;
    - play your favourite tunes & enjoy getting lost in your DP world! 😁

    There are really great tips in here... I'm right-handed and also use square drills. My canvas size is 90x120 do you find starting in a specific location on the canvas easier? I've been starting from left to right length wise.

    • @DiamondDelight
      @DiamondDelight  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hello! I usually also work left to right, but will flip the canvas as I get to parts that are harder to reach etc... If the left to right works for you, I'd say to stick with it! If you wind up with a canvas that has popping drills (the drills are too big and tightly packed, so the drills will "pop" off when crammed), then it is best to start from the middle. Otherwise, it's just preference!

    If you weed out the uneven drills, and then need to use them at the end, wouldn't that create an area of the painting with doest look as nice because it has a greater concentration of uneven beads?

    • @DiamondDelight
      @DiamondDelight  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's a very good point actually! I could see that happening if you used a lot of them for a color block area so I would avoid that! In the past, it's usually just been a couple that I've needed to use. I also tend to do paintings with a lot more confetti so it would be less noticeable, but I think if you were to have a large number of color block missing at the end, it would probably be better to buy more drills/request replacements from the company.

      Hello! This is a tricky one that a lot of diamond painters have had the misfortune of dealing with. Unfortunately, many times it is the canvas/drills themselves. Sometimes the size of the drills does not perfectly match the size of the canvas. It is an error on the side of the manufacturer and can be very hard to deal with. I have heard of people placing the drills, trying to press them down flat with a roller, and glueing/sealing them in place, but it is a PAIN! I would reach out to the company and let them know that you're having an issue with "popping drills".
      This can also happen when your drill have extra tabs on them. If you hold a light behind your tray when the drills are all lined up, you can see if some of them are not perfect squares. They may have extra tabs on them that are preventing them from sitting evenly. I try to remove these faulty drills and only use even square ones. Some people have said they cut the tabs off with an exacto knife, but I found this to be pretty difficult as well.
      I'm sorry that you're having this issue. It's not fun and can be very frustrating! Certain companies have better quality than others, so search the web/youtube for reviews of companies before buying if you're ever worried about the quality

      @@DiamondDelight I find the magnifying glasses are definitely an added bonus when placing drills if you're interested in precision placing. I have read about the usb port on most light pads easily breaking, and the whole light pad having to be replaced, so I also bought a 'Magnetic Charging Cable'. Basically you plug the adapter into the usb port of the light pad, and leave it in permanently, the magnetic cable then latches onto the adapter magnetically, thus eliminating the need to plug and unplug the cable every time. Apparently it's the action of continually plugging and umplugging the cable that eventually weakens the connection, and then your left with a broken light pad. There are loads of magnetic cables on Amazon, so if you invest in one, just be sure to get one with the correct usb connection. I thing the majority of light pads are C type, but yours may be different. Hope you find this useful.

      Hi Jane! Good questions! I actually haven't come across a pen with wax already loaded in it. I usually reload it as I go! I have seen pens that have a rubber-y/wax tip though (usually used for nail art / picking up rhinestones) so maybe you could try one of those!
      As for storage of large paintings: I found a large piece of cardboard. I put my paintings on top of that and then put the whole thing under my mattress. Between the box spring and the cardboard, I feel like it's pretty supportive! Put make sure to cover your paintings with a protective layer so they don't get fuzz/dirt on them!

      I got my pen with wax it's called quickstik for 10.00 in it on eBay. U also can get them off Amazon to but I'm an eBay girl. I always find that eBay is cheaper. If you do get one there is people who shows you how to use it. There's a lid on it like a pen u take that off and you twist the bottom of the end on the pen very slowly bc all you need is just a tiny bit to come out. And it lasts me along time b4 I have to give it another slight turn. If u turn to much then it just keeps flowing bc of the pressure for turning it to far. And there is on the other end of your pen a tool. It has an end that looks like a flat head screw driver and u can pull it out and on the other end of that is a fine point on the end and turn it around and place it back in your pen and now u have your tool with the point that's sticking up. I've had my pen for maybe 5m and I still have lots of wax in mine it goes a long way. They say you can refill your pen which is called sticky tack which I also got on eBay for 10.00. I find myself using it much more then any other pen they have out there. It's well worth the money.
