Godzilla is such a versatile monster that can be used to tell so many stories that it makes him timeless. I'm sure its no shock but I absolutely love the monster for how its used to demonstrate the cruelty of man in one moment and suplex a kaiju gorilla in the next. This movie is where it all started and I don't even know how many times I've seen it at this point.
Facts, and I think thats why Godzilla has lasted for so long without people getting bored of him, whether one of his new movies or comics are well received or not. His versatility is one of the characters best attributes
I feel Kaiju in general fit this mold. You vids on Gamera explain the wild change a series can take in the right hands. We've really been eating good when it comes to meaningful Kaiju media between shin G, minus 1, shin Ultraman and Ultraman rising. Plus, the Hollywood scaled showa tributes of GvK and GxK. I cannot believe the state of things.
@citrusreality64 oh jeez. I added it to my watch list. I'll hear out this argument, but without watching I cannot disagree more. Thanks for the second hand counter point 🫡
I love Godzilla's portrayal in this movie, he's not a defender of the earth, he's a terrifying colossus wreaking vengeance on mankind. He can't be stopped, he can't be reasoned with, and he destroys everything his path. The threat isn't just Godzilla either, as the radiation he emits poisons everything around him, making him almost like a nuclear blast in slow motion. Despite all the destruction he causes though the movie still makes you feel sympathetic for him. He's a tragic creature lashing out in pain, pain brought upon him by circumstances beyond his own control. His death isn't a triumphant moment but a solemn and melancholy one, Godzilla is just as big of a victim as the people who surround him.
I've yet to meet anyone who I've told to see this film who came away with anything but shock at how good it is. There's so many great things about it. Glad you're enjoying the G-verse!
The Last of Us music in the background fits. And you just made me realize something the original Gojira will always have what Minus One, as great as it is, will never have. A sense of immediacy. Minus One doesn't have that because it's a post-ww2 period piece made almost 70 years after the Lucky Dragon no. 5 incident and the generation of people affected by it are almost long gone. On the other hand, Gojira was made immediately after the Lucky Dragon incident which was on everyone's mind back then.
Huge godzilla fan here Amazing video, if uou loved this film I highly recommend return of godzilla it's a follow-up to this film to the original godzilla that soft reboots the character by returning him to his darker roots
“Monsters are tragic beings, born too tall, too heavy, too strong..They are not evil by choice. That is their tragedy” - Ishiro Honda (Director of the first film)
What I hate is how everyone celebrated Godzillas death Even most audiences You could see he hated what he became and how he didn't want to die, he was scared, he didn't deserve to die, he was the real victim in the movie, I shed tears at Godzillas death as it was horrifying how they traumatized him like that, why would they use an oxygen destroyer to kill a monster that it isn't their fault they exist, it's ours for making him exist, yeah the monster is gone but think about what your celebrating, are you celebrating the death of the monster or are you celebrating the people who created him. It's all Oppenheimers' fault Godzilla exists (in the universe, obv)
Well, REALLY the lucky dragon number 5 was the inspiration for Godzilla, but maybe a bit too for the other ones...I just wanna make it seem like they weren't in equilibrium when it comes to the inspiration of Godzilla.
You know I am a huge Godzilla fan myself but it only NOW occurred to me that the ancient species of that crab thing probably went on to evolve into Destoroyah. How the hell did I never make that connection Also man I wish we could get more JP Godzilla movies or spin offs really. Like I would love to know what the humanoid Shin godzillas would do or what would happen to Noriko now that she is infected with G Cells and of course a regenned Godzilla
Put your Godzilla related thoughts down in the comments!
That I'm godzilla himself. Specifically the one in Godzilla minus one.
@@IAMGOJINOMATTERWHATYOUSAY I myself is a godzilla with sunglasses.
Godzilla is by far among the best franchises to ever exist period (With some peaks and falls ofc)

Some people think godzillas versatility is a bad thing... someone made a video called "the inversatility of godzilla"

Yeah I’m sick of Godzilla movies where he isn’t in the movie

I have ZERO idea what the first half of this means, but I 100% that I'd love to see a Shin Godzilla continuation thing
@@HornZ. Destoroyah was a villain that appeared in one of the later movies who was an ancient crustacean species mutated by the oxygen destroyer.
