Great tutorial, but slow down just a bit. You do a lot of shortcuts and things with no explanation. I've paused and seen you move to menus so fast with pure muscle memory that there's no way to know how you're doing it. For example, at 3:09 you move the heads into groups, but how are you doing this? I'm aware of how to highlight and do it manually, but looks like you know a shortcut or something. Great work.
Seriously. He apparently just drags it down and then moves everything out of there, deletes stuff, undos, then can showhow make some things visible. I have no idea what he did
Good job as always. A little note about the grab point, it only shows up if you're editing an element (people can be confused about that). And if you press triangle on it, it will reset to the centre of everything in the creation. So it's an easy way of getting a more reasonable grab point.
You can do this, but it's not guaranteed to work. I tried this before while testing and would find it sometimes chose a point that was uncentered. Using the grid is a more consistent method :)
@@MrWooshie Yeah--it's based on the average centre of all objects in the scene; perhaps there was some emitter stuff hanging out? Fine to position it manually, of course. But if it's just something simple like a sculpture or something it's a useful feature. And it actually centres it for you as you work anyway, I think. It's only if you've moved it (or if you're working on a fresh character, which has already set it to the feet instead of letting it centre, for reasons), that it stays put and so can become squiffy. Interestingly, the grab point is used for the auto-guide also. This is why the *feet* snap to surfaces when obeying auto-guides; because that's where the grab point is positioned.

It's been awhile! More videos coming soon! In the meantime I have an explanation/ramble on what's been going on in regards to this channel here: th-cam.com/video/LMHCFjRoom8/w-d-xo.html Thank you for watching :)
Is there a way to go into further detail as to what you're pressing with the controls. What's happening to me is that I've followed along to the point I drop the duplicate head back with the other head but mine doesn't look or do what you're showing. Whenever I add eyes and then color them like you did, I end up coloring the underlayer shape. If I delete the underlayer shape, I can color only on the surface and not the actual spheres I use for eyes. Unsure if that makes any sense but it's not at all turning out like the video and i'm trying to figure out what i'm doing wrong. Thanks
Yeah, he goes wayy to fast in this area. He makes those eyes in what appears to be the same sculpture of the head (never creates a new one) and yet he's somehow still only able to color the eye section as if he DID make a new sculpture. What happens to you is normal. I've watched multiple times now and the things he does on screen and shortcuts he uses he's not completely explaining. At 3:09 he merges the heads into a group so fast you don't even see it (must be a shortcut)
I have 0 game dev experience and no artistic skills but i want to make a game/short story narrative about being alone while surrounded by hundreds via social media and how deceptive social media is from the outside. I'm going to need all of these kind of videos to study. Thanks!

Jesus Christ that was involved and in depth. Great tutorial video, but this game in general is something I’ll never be able to do myself. I don’t have the creativity, nor the patience to create within this game.
Well there is definitely patience needed, but as for creativity you can surprise yourself. I've come across some players in Dreams that had no artistic background and claimed to lack creativity, yet they have become amazing creators making things they never thought they could. An important part of Dreams is collaboration, whether it be directly working with others or by simply using assets provided by the community. If creating isn't your thing, there is plenty of fun games to play within Dreams already! Overall there is a lot to do in Dreams if you give it a chance :)
I got a little bit lost with the several heads in the same place, just before you started to place the eyes. Why did you make another head without the holes? PD: I'm starting to sculpt now, so every single click is new to me, hehehe.
I'm having a bit of an issue and was hoping maybe you'd have some answers since you seem very knowledgeable with the creator. I decided to try and create a character using assets from other creators. Body type, eyeballs, ears, etc. Visually it looks good, but the particular body I liked seems to have some issues with the way it runs. As soon as it goes into the run, it starts to float and the feet freak out. I figured it was an issue with the way they saved the puppet's position. When I first loaded up the body, it was floating in some weird limbo without a floor and I couldn't even find the thing for a minute. Eventually I got it, placed it on the floor and continued adding onto it, but every time I went into play mode it would revert back to that initial point of floating in limbo. My only thought was that it was somehow attributed to where the game thinks the position of the character is supposed to be rather than where it actually is. Finally I just loaded the character model into another puppet's so it had a floor and all, but it still has the floating issue I mentioned earlier even with ground to walk on. I tried scaling the feet, keeping them closer to the floor, tweaking the settings to match the perfect running and jumping of my previous puppet, but nothing seems to work. If you have any info, it would be greatly appreciated. I'm really curious what the problem is.
While holding onto the sculpt (with R2) you can group it into part of the puppet with L1+X In this case I grabbed the cloned sculpt of the head and grouped it with the original head. By doing this throughout the puppet you can have multiple parts attached to a single sculpt. For example, you could create a sword and group it to the hand so it moves with the hand :)
Agreed. I've had such a difficult and sometimes very rewarding experience with this game and inky a couple of guys on tube can explain it in my non logic mind can understand.
30 seconds in, you clicked a specific body part before hitting stretch tool, and didn't say how. Yesterday, I accidentally found the way, but didn't have a lot of time, so I forgot how. Instead of selecting a specific body part, it ALWAYS highlights the whole puppet. HELP! And, when I find it, I can't realign. It just puts the puppet in weirder positions...
Nice vid bro but one question, can you download characters from other players? So u can use them for u own game so I only have to change the things u want and dont have to do an entire own character?
@@synaestheticstudios that's cool l have another question, is it possible to create a game for 2 players and that each player is in another team with bots and fight each other? So we could do epic scenarios like humans vs machines or something or one player is a boss vs another player with bots? I doubt its possible cause l think you can only do coop, singleplayer or pvp but not with bots on each team or? I mean if not then lt would be simple to put it with an update like when you put a character you also choose which side the character is and then the other team is the enemy so we would have so much freedom..
You don't need to use a puppet for that. You can make any object playable by adding a controller to it. So basically you stamp a microchip onto your ship, then in that microchip place a controller sensor. If you want the spaceship to move you can place movers on the same microchip, then connect the controller sensor to those movers. For example, you can connect R2 to a Mover set to go forwards, and L2 to a Mover set to go backwards. This is a pretty basic way of doing it, so of course you can always alter and add things to make it better :)
O man, trying so hard to see what happened to the second head you created. Did you delete it? I guess you made it so you could get another mirror plane where you want it, so that both eyes could be made at once, using the second head's mirror plane. Perhaps you deleted it after you made the eyes? Also, does deleting the base head sculpt affect anything in the puppet logic? I've avoided deleting the blue head in my sculpts. Thanks for the video!
Thanks for the video! I've never used or owned any game consoles and Dreams is the first thing which makes me want to have one. I saw that there are some sort of tiny keyboards you can attach to the gamepad, would it be possible to use one of those in dreams to control the settings like switching grid on and off and such? Thanks!
Thanks for watching! Glad Dreams is able to inspire you :) Hmm... I don't believe you are able to rig up the grid settings in such a way, at least not currently as far as I'm aware. There are shortcuts for certain things in-game already, so maybe MM will add custom shortcut to allow you to do what you'd like with settings!
If you want to make a character look nice, would it be better to make them at scale, or make it huge so it's easy to work with, then just shrink it back down to scale?
Great tutorial.. definitely learned alot.. I just bought it a few days ago.. still trying to learn the mechanics of it .. (General question) Is it easier to navigate using the motion sensor or just the analog sticks?
So do we just repeat the steps for putting parts over the arms, legs, etc? and do we need to make sure that any parts we sculpt in to the puppet are all at connector points? yknow, like, if I sculpt over the arm sections, do the two sections need to meet at the joint in order to move properly?
why is it that my so called short cuts dont work. It was hard to follow you through the tutorial because you kept referring to the steps through shortcuts. Is there a way to turn them on or what?
Mainly practice. I use L1, R1, and the two thumbsticks for more precise control. I'm not good with motion controls, so I tend to avoid them whenever possible! At this point I've practiced with the controls enough to where they are now second nature :)
Hey MrWooshie, I'm just currently creating a character and was wondering why you copied the head without the eye sockets... I'm just wondering if it useful for animating or something else. Can't quite figure it out with just this video :) great tutorial btw, helped me tons by now
how much versatility does this have? I have a character with some fairly odd proportions that I kind of want to make a game out of, but I'm not so sure if it would be possible. he is very round, has virtually no legs or chest, kind of like Kirby except he has a head and a tail. Would it be possible to make a giant ball shaped character with a head and a tail along those lines.. I'd show a picture of the character, but I don't know if many people would like him.
@@yungpooplord So I believe that was a remnant from the beta. You can still make it an Element, when you have your fresh blank canvas (just the one box) you can bring in a deluxe puppet, from the Gadgets>Gameplay menu (I believe, not in front of my PS4)
@@BrokenDpad I figured out another way. If you go into dream shaping you can select if you want to shape a character, vehicle, ect. And if you scroll down you will find the start from blank thing with the default puppet
Would you by any chance know how one would be able to make 2 or more characters to choose from at the beginning of the game? Or character custom design choices like eye colour and hairstyle in sims?
I edited the puppet to be really compact (I’m making a cookie game) and now when it runs it yeets the sculpture behind it and runs, I should have made the puppet smaller instead
I tried doing play mode just now. It said to hover my imp over my character and possess it, so I tried to do that but then I realized that my cursor was no longer the imp but was instead a random black/very dark gray hand. Along with that, the level/scene that I set up so far started randomly rotating or tilted, and this one Godzilla character in the level/scene started looking like he was going to slide off the map. I was all like, “What the heck??? What is going on?” Now as I’m trying to possess my character, it won’t let me because I’m stuck being a black hand instead of an imp, while in play mode.

For example, you can connect R2 to a Mover set to go forwards, and L2 to a Mover set to go backwards.
This is a pretty basic way of doing it, so of course you can always alter and add things to make it better :)
Oh that’s awesome, thank you
I have never seen this game before but I am getting it
Thank you this is a great tutorial
current modelling programs can learn a lot of things from this game
How do you move your imp so smooth and fluidly. Amazing tutorial!
Bl00dyAvenger That’s what i need to know too
O man, trying so hard to see what happened to the second head you created.
Thanks, now I'll be able to make MegaMan.ExE in dreams
Thanks for the video! I've never used or owned any game consoles and Dreams is the first thing which makes me want to have one. I saw that there are some sort of tiny keyboards you can attach to the gamepad, would it be possible to use one of those in dreams to control the settings like switching grid on and off and such? Thanks!
Thanks for watching! Glad Dreams is able to inspire you :)
Hmm...
3:42 when I do that it paints the whole head instead of just the eyes. Help
Love the content got a new subscriber. Bless me with more vids so I can do my homework
So do we just repeat the steps for putting parts over the arms, legs, etc? and do we need to make sure that any parts we sculpt in to the puppet are all at connector points? yknow, like, if I sculpt over the arm sections, do the two sections need to meet at the joint in order to move properly?
This video made me subscribe
why is it that my so called short cuts dont work. It was hard to follow you through the tutorial because you kept referring to the steps through shortcuts. Is there a way to turn them on or what?
Exactly. Waaaay too fast and wayy too many unspoken shortcuts.
I just spent an hour or two in the character tutorial mostly goofing off but after all that he was crippled.
Hey, man. Good video.
When I heard "press ∆" I laughed. I'm more nintendo so that's why I laughed
Please respond. How do you use the camera so well? That's my main problem with Dreams
Mainly practice. I use L1, R1, and the two thumbsticks for more precise control. I'm not good with motion controls, so I tend to avoid them whenever possible! At this point I've practiced with the controls enough to where they are now second nature :)
@@MrWooshie thanks ^^
Dreams: exists
Me: *take my money*
Hey MrWooshie,
I'm just currently creating a character and was wondering why you copied the head without the eye sockets...
Thx for all your help! New sub!
Does dreams support mouse and keyboard? Doing these kind of things with a controller seems like a nightmare
It is
How did u make this purple thing underneath him
Its so confusing, this video is for people that have already completed every single tutorial :(
Why are there no options for me when l go to "start fresh" there are only 3 questionmarks with "new elements" " new dream" and "new collection"
Same that's what I'm trying to figure out because I want to edit the default puppet but I can't even get to the start fresh page this guy is on
@@yungpooplord So I believe that was a remnant from the beta.
So you can make ANY character? And can they spit slime? I just have some ideas for this game and I'm not sure about what you can and can't do
Would you by any chance know how one would be able to make 2 or more characters to choose from at the beginning of the game? Or character custom design choices like eye colour and hairstyle in sims?
How do you zoom in like that 2:18 everytime I zoom in my imp does past my puppet
R1 left stick
Thankyou so much for thisss
Whenever I take a puppet and want to put another head on top it, the head is just following but it doesn’t look like the puppets head. Any tips?
I edited the puppet to be really compact (I’m making a cookie game) and now when it runs it yeets the sculpture behind it and runs, I should have made the puppet smaller instead
Lmfao I listen to the same songs at night in the background! Its in my Playlist hahaha
