When I first started using braid, I lost several nice red fish due to my old Trilene knots. Then a guy on the “wall” told me to go home and learn the “Fishin Fool” knot. I did and I’ve not had another knot failure. Braided line is very slick.
It says 2 ball bearings on the reel yet that one had bushings. Just wondering because I have that exact same reel. Great video. I was scared to take it apart.
Chuck, I hadn’t noticed the print on the side before. I didn’t notice it with my naked eye but looking at it on my big screen I realized there is a bearing in the spool release plate seen at the 25:30 time mark of the video. I have since taken the reel back apart and inspected both ends. It has a roller bearing on each end, even though the red bearing holder on the opposite end made it look like a bushing. There are tiny spring clips that hold the bearings in place. I have now verified that the bearings were oiled and cleaned. Thanks for pointing that out. Now I know I need stronger glasses. 😀
Yes it was. That was why I asked you where you were storing them. The only time I’ve seen them that crusty in the past was when reels were stored on porches or under car ports. It’s important to store them in a clean location. I stored a bunch of my rods and reels in my boat shed until 3 years ago. They got nasty dirty in there. Now I store them on my garage ceiling.
Just found this reel in a garage sale for 10 bucks now i know how to work on it a service it, thank you!!
Never would’ve thought braided line would give me that problem on drag slip
