Great start of the series, after its complete maybe you can do one on drag systems and how they work, such as pounds etc. Also the viewers would like to see the most complicated reel you've tackled.
Thanks for the feedback Gary. I appreciate your suggestions. Repairing a reel may seem intimidating, but it is not necessary complicated. Most reels don't vary that much from the ones made 50 years ago. Some manufacturers have quirks that vary from the norm, like the twist off side plate on bait casters, or the star drag click spring on a Shimano Tekota, that has a certain trick to it, or the Okuma Cedros with an elliptical crosswind gear. To me the most complicated reels are bait feeders because there is an extra level of moving parts in it and each brand does the free spool release a little different. Next time one comes in, I will see if I can do a video. On drags - I should be able to do that. The core differences involve the number, size of the drags ,and the materials they are made from. It's all about spreading the load over a bigger surface area. Look for it near term.
If anyone happens to take the magnetic break off, and the middle one, which is glued on, happens to come off the plastic piece in the middle, glueing it back is easy with epoxy but it may not be apparent which position you should glue the magnet back. There is a little notch on the inner magnet and outer. Inner should point directly to the left or right, doesn't matter really, and when you put the outer magnet on, make sure to set the magnet brake setting on the side plate to max. Then align any of the other notch on the outer ring to match the notch on the inner ring when you put the ring back on the side plate. When the notches line up is when the break is the strongest. I have a smaller magforce procaster that I worked on this week that had the issue described and took a while to figure it out. Hope this helps someone.
I don't have that video. I will add it to my request list and do one the next time I have one come into the shop or I find one at a local sale. Thanks for asking - Dennis
By the way, your Procaster SM-2A should be very similar to this one and you should be able to use this video as a guide to servicing your reel - Dennis
Dennis hello. Great video here. I have inherited several of my father's old baitcaster reels. One is a Diawa Procaster PMA 15s. Similar to the reel you are working on here. I would like to take it apart and clean it, lube it and put it back together and go catch some more bass with it. Can mineral spirits be used to clean any of the external or internal parts of the reel? I grew up watching my Dad fish with reels simlar to this one and also the round Abu Garcia Aubasseudeur 5000 series reels. Thanks.
I stay away from those type of solvents. I like to use a general degreaser like WD40. I find one of the best is Purple Magic. It can clean both metal and graphite with ease. What ever you choose, make sure to relive the reel once cleaned as these will strip away and of the oils and lubricants. Thanks for asking - Dennis
Do you fix them for cash? I just took this procaster daily apart and I'm in over my head. If you can't fix it I'll let you keep it for parts. I hate to throw it away. I lost that little rubber washer/seal.
I do have a repair business, yes. If you would like to send it to me, please email me - 2ndchancetackle@gmail.com and I will send you the details. Thank you - Dennis
why are you NOT upgrading these cheap garbage drag washers to modern carbon fiber, why are you not degreasing and lubing with synthetic oil and grease. after you degrease the bearings with acetone or even offer to upgrade the spool bearings to ceramic. The handle is garbage and pressed fit knobs are 100% NOT up-gradable to bearings knobs! YOU LEFT DOLLARS ON THE TABLE AND DIDN'T EDUCATE YOUR REEL CUSTOMER on upgrades to make it better than new! GEEZUS

I had the same problem with small screws. I HIGHLY recommend magnetic tip screwdrivers. LIFE CHANGER!!!
Yes, but the problem is that stainless steel screws are non-magnetic and most quality reels use the stainless screws. Thanks for the tip - Dennis
@@2ndChanceTackle Ahhh ... I see. Thank you sir

Do that penn 722z, one of my personal favorites.
I will add it to my project list - Thanks for asking - Dennis
Do you have a video on a Daiwa Procaster SM-2A? Thank you

I think they make c-clips out of the same metal they use to make 10mm wrenchs. I can never find either and they were just here..
HaHa - Thanks
I have this same reel. Daiwa PR10G. Bought it new about 1987 I think.
That sounds about right. I had one as well and I think it was around that time. I like the reel a lot - Dennis

I have plenty of c clips around my house somewhere.
Me too, if I can just find them! They are probably right next to the time springs. - Dennis
Allow me a small correction: the ones above are "E" clip, not "C" clip.

I am interested to see what becomes of it!
