Sick Green is my workhorse base for my Salamanders- the bubbling drives me mad though - any time it touches water. I've seen your reply, just adding to the chorus. Maybe its been fixed but this was 4 months ago.
Thanks for the guide. Can you comment on the bubble issue? Even in the video you can see a lot of bubbles forming on the mini. How do you deal with that?
I already answered this, so I will copy and paste the answer: I personally have never seen this issue in my day to day painting and it's not due to being slow or methodical. I've used these paints, as I state in the video, for my live masterclasses where students use them and not a single one of them had this issue at all. Some were experienced and most were regularly novice painters. I still can't understand how people have this issue, and I say this with the most respect here. You can see me applying a basecoat here with lots of paint and not a single bubble in the end result, you can also see how smooth and uniform the basecoat is after drying. I suggest you apply the paint more carefully and try to be gentler. Using a large soft haired brush will help you out in covering more area while being more deliberate in the application. If some bubbles form try blowing on them gently. That always helps and not only while painting, blowing gently solves most problems in life.
Going up in the world! Great to see you continue to work with Vallejo. They make some wonderful paints. My experience with old Game Color is limited, but the ones I used were a tad glossy. The new ones are some of my favourites however. Insanely smooth paints.
So what about the bubbles , I've been trying to take it easy on mixing them and still bubbles that don't pop and show up on the finish , yes I love the colors and the way they work but this mixing issue is unacceptable.......maybe it's just me anyone else having issues with little bubbles
I'm using the entire new GC range without the washes. The few bought were for comparison purposes since I make my own and have not experienced any bubble issues. That said I rarely use washes and only sparingly but the core paints are top notch and cheaper than any other comparable paint lines.
Fantastic video! It would be great to see someone using Vallejo's Game Color Wash paints, as they behave quite different from other washes/shades on the market!
I know I should consider this an add, but since you use them yourself, I wanted to ask how you get around the bubble issue. When you showed the separation of the brown on the palatte and remixed it, I noticed the same bubbles I came to dread with this range. How do you deal with it?
I'd love to know as well. These bubbles issues are what keeps me from buying a larger number of them. Seems like it can be incredibly annoying and frustrating.
I found this issue first hand with the Plague Brown color as i applied it. Very frustrating problem that requires a conscious effort to deal with and it's not perfect. Would love to see an official comment on it.

@@JuanHidalgoMiniatures I've been using Vallejo paints for probably close to 2 decades. I love the brand and i was excited to use the new formula game color range. I say this with the utmost respect, it's certainly an issue only with their new formula and only certain colors. I assure you, i know how to apply paint :) That said, it seems to mostly occur in recesses. So as you paint towards a recess, the bubbles appear. To your point, I have found that blowing gently does help. I've also found that sort of gently disturbing the area with the brush helps as well but even then i still get SOME small micro bubbles. The main issue is that if you don't catch them while they are still wet, it dries leaving a sort of mottled raised texture. I live in the states, so i don't know if our formula is slightly different or if shipping it had some adverse affects. I don't know if shaking the pots to much causes it. I don't know if dilution with water is what causes it. But I can say that plague brown specifically caused the issue and the other paints I've used (some greens and other browns) i didn't notice the issue.
@@JuanHidalgoMiniatures Honestly, I'm a bit surprised by this answer because I can see bubbles in this video. 2:30 on the palette, when you mix the colour. 2:44 when you put this paint on the horse. 4:20 when you mix the separated colour back together 5:10 between the saddle and the reins there are a couple of dried (?) bubbles leaving white spots. Am I the only one seeing those?
Hmm, interesting. I'd missed the slow drying time, I might have to try some game colours / new model colours. These new Vallejos also have some of the best bottles around!
This was great cause i bought a game color when the model paint i needed was out, always wondered what the actual difference between the Vallejo brands were
@Juan, I get that this video's sponsored, so I'm not sure if you can give a clear answer. But, if you had to choose between the new VGC and DC’s Two Thin Coats, which would you go for?
I can totally answer that question. Sadly I've never used the TTC range so my answer has to be that I don't know. The only metric I can use for comparison is the price which is not even close here in Spain (reason why no shops here sell TTC paints)
Nice intro to the line. Would love to see them make complementary colours for the existing range or a chart of existing colours that are complementary.
Thank you for this super understandable video! I'm slowly but surely switching from Citadel to Vallejo paints (not for the contrast ones and a few specific color which are fantastic from Citadel) and I must said that, most of the time, I prefer the Vallejo. I had huge hope for the new Army of painter Fanatic, carefull my experience is based only on one "triad" (6 colors) but I'm not convinced even though their are a huge improvement from the last version!
I would've loved to try these paints out but even a year (or maybe even more) after release the whole range is still not available in the UK. Army Painter it is then...
I know you made this post a while ago but I noticed this too, the range looks very nice but I can't seem to find half the range here so il probably just switch to one that's actually available.
There are a few colors from the extra opaque colors that made there way over to the new game color line. Is there a color similar to heavy sienna in the line? I often used that color for the deep shadows of orange armor and skin tones.
The most similar would probably be Charred Brown but that might not be what you are looking for. My suggestion is to look in the Model Color range, I'm pretty certain you will find a suitable brown there
Love the video and I love Vallejo, I haven't bought many of the new game colors yet. How is the new Vallejo black in comparison to the old one that was pretty glossy?
Thank you so much for this video. Some colours in the range don’t fall in any BSL triad. Specifically Cayman Green, Khaki, Desert Yellow, Earth, Bronze Brown, Plague Brown, Leather Brown and Beasty Brown. Do you have any recommended BSL triads for these?
That would be way too long to answer but for example I would highlight Cayman with Camouflage and shade it with Dark Green. You can always find two suitable colours that work well even if you have to sometimes mix a bit to bridge a large gap. Game Color and Model Color have been designed to be symbiotic, so you will be able to find the colours you need in that range.
I’ve had original Vallejo Game Colour/Game Air as my main paint for years, absolutely love that range. Is there much difference between the old and new game colour range?
Hey, you can find the whole raid description on the vallejo site. It's in pdf format and it even has a handy chart giving you the citadel counterparts if you want to paint along with you tubers who use those.
They are not set in stone or a hard rule. It's just the range is displayed in your shop in a way that helps you out when picking the colours you need. I will ask Vallejo if they have a chart !
@Switchblade39 maybe or just bad habits when painting. The problem is when you point that out, people get upset and I understand it to be fair. The thing is I've never experienced it with Game Color or the new Model Color but I won't ever negate others experiences. @@JuanHidalgoMiniatures Stahly (Tale of Painters) on yourtube showed how it can be a problem. I'm not sure why people would get upset over a brand. no paint is perfect it's just what is best for you.
I've been mainly using Vallejo but I haven't been a fan of the update as the new tips tend to leak constantly over the tip, and my fav red has been changed in color and now I have to look for an alternative :( Some others are indeed nicer to use like the bone white but the tip is still annoying
Yeah some colours changed and that's always annoying and frustrating. The tips can indeed leak a bit, I personally don't care but I understand how that can be a problem
@@JuanHidalgoMiniatures the leaking has just been very bad for my black were my handd get regularly covered in it 😅 But overall the new ones are nice ^^
The bubbles in this range are so, so bad. And now Model Color looks like it will have the same problem. I really don't like how they haven't even addressed this. If you thin a lot or paint fast at all they are useless.
I already answered this so I will just copy and paste my response: I personally have never seen this issue in my day to day painting and it's not due to being slow or methodical. I'm very fast painting usually. I've used these paints, as I state in the video, for my live masterclasses where students use them and not a single one of them had this issue at all. @@JuanHidalgoMiniatures I kinda find this confusing since you can already see some aspects of it in your video on your palette. I usually "stab" my paint on for basecoats, which really agitates the formula and makes the bubbles. One of the only other TH-camrs to talk about these paints, Stahly, has also come out and admitted it's a problem with the range. It is very replicable, so I don't know why it's not a problem here. Compare it to another paint in the same session and you'll see what people are talking about. You can also see it happen in Angel's videos and he likewise just refuses to acknowledge that it's happening.
Love your videos Juan. Youve taught me a lot. I've now learnt now the theories behind many painting tricks from you. If only i could get them from my brain to my brush tip. Lol
I, sadly, disagree and it is very unfortunate. I'm further worried about Vallejo. New Game Color is one of the worst ranges I've painted with. Laying down a base leaves more bubbles than any other thicker or thinner (diluted) range. Of course, you can find even worse, but I would never recommend GC to a beginner or advanced painter for any reason. One thing Citadel knows is a lot of new painters just want their layers to go down, and don't use (nor should be expected to use) wet pallets. And advanced painters can use any paint, it's a matter of it is quality. AK paints are far superior in quality, nearly any other paint line is better for beginners. :( Vallejo is my very favorite of all the game companies. They further face problems getting their paint line to the US with customs for some reason now, and that hurts even more. Their overall lines are the best, but recently, they have made bad decisions. Their 'contrast' line is also very disappointing in coverage from what I've used. I only pick up the GC and contrast now to support my FLGS, and I believe, bit by bit, they are looking to other lines. A big problem with Vallejo is if you don't also carry their model color, there is a real question as to why to carry their other products in the store. Competition is rough, I hope Vallejo kills this bad direction they've gone in, and survives. Come on, Vallejo, you can do MUCH better!
I love the new game color and I never have any bubble issues. I use them a lot and I am wondering how this problem happen to so many painters in the comments?
I don't agree on the paper, I think the redgrass re-usable is the absolute best paper ever made and also I refuse to buy anything GSW makes or promote them in any way shape or form. That's just a personal preference and I don't care or judge what others do.

@@JuanHidalgoMiniatures Stahly (Tale of Painters) on yourtube showed how it can be a problem. I'm not sure why people would get upset over a brand. no paint is perfect it's just what is best for you.

I've been mainly using Vallejo but I haven't been a fan of the update as the new tips tend to leak constantly over the tip, and my fav red has been changed in color and now I have to look for an alternative :(
Some others are indeed nicer to use like the bone white but the tip is still annoying
Yeah some colours changed and that's always annoying and frustrating. The tips can indeed leak a bit, I personally don't care but I understand how that can be a problem
@@JuanHidalgoMiniatures the leaking has just been very bad for my black were my handd get regularly covered in it 😅
But overall the new ones are nice ^^
@SpooKimi OUCH
Still don't know the difference between game color and model color. And now mecha is added...
The main difference is the colour selection.
There are slight differences in formulation but it's basically the colours.
The bubbles in this range are so, so bad. And now Model Color looks like it will have the same problem. I really don't like how they haven't even addressed this. If you thin a lot or paint fast at all they are useless.
I already answered this so I will just copy and paste my response:
I personally have never seen this issue in my day to day painting and it's not due to being slow or methodical. I'm very fast painting usually.
I've used these paints, as I state in the video, for my live masterclasses where students use them and not a single one of them had this issue at all. Some were experienced and most were regularly novice painters.
I still can't understand how people have this issue, and I say this with the most respect here. You can see me applying a basecoat here with lots of paint and not a single bubble, you can also see how smooth and uniform the basecoat is.
I suggest you apply the paint more carefully and try to be gentler. Using a large soft haired brush will help you out in covering more area while being more deliberate in the application. If some bubbles form try blowing on them gently. That always helps and not only while painting, blowing gently solves most problems in life.
@@TriggertheTacono bubbles for my game colors
They need to pull their finger out and release some decent paint sets for Game Color, Express Color etc.
As far as I know they are working on doing sets
Excellent video. Thanks JH!
😘
Love your videos Juan. Youve taught me a lot. I've now learnt now the theories behind many painting tricks from you. If only i could get them from my brain to my brush tip. Lol
Never give up, it's all about practice
Thanks Juan, nice effect

The King of Contrast is dead.
LONG LIVE THE GOD EMPERAH OF GAME COLOUR PAINTS!!!!!
I still use and will keep using contrast but for my day to day painting which is mostly busts and large scale I do prefer Game and Model Color
@@JuanHidalgoMiniatures will you paint some large scale stuff or a bust on this Channel anytime?

Vallejo is my very favorite of all the game companies.
Same here, I really don't understand it.
Blue is the worst color
Blue is worse!
YES
White is worst.
WHICH IS WHY BLUE IS WORST!
The redgrass wet palette is just horrendously overpriced, green stuff world is cheaper and performs the same, paper is actually better at gsw
I don't agree on the paper, I think the redgrass re-usable is the absolute best paper ever made and also I refuse to buy anything GSW makes or promote them in any way shape or form.
That's just a personal preference and I don't care or judge what others do.
You lost me at "you need two coats"
Sorry
Vallejo gets some nice advertising, we get a nice tutorial, and you get paid. Win/win/win.
The last win is the best one!
