Fellow Abaddon Black lover here. However Pro Acryl just made a satin black and it's so much better. I do feel like it's great to have a non-matte black though.
I really like this! I’ve been working on filling out my collection slowly, and I have several gaps to fill. Especially blues..I only have one blue that isn’t an ink or speedpaint.
Great video, would like to see the same for contrast type paints. For me a limited paint set should have colors that are either hard to mix or that mix well with others. In the latter, my 2 pics that weren't mentioned would be Mournfang Brown and Bugmans Glow. Also, probably a separate matte and gloss black
Very good picks in here, definitely a good all-round list, and it has a lot of my go-to colours in it already. Even if I did take what you said about Dark Sea Blue and Incubi Darkness being basically the same personally, ha. There's still a few things you just won't be able to mix properly, like a pure quinacridone magenta, but part of the challenge is having to cut some corners like that. And I'm guessing that particular colour might show up in the Contrast-type/ink list, since there's translucent options you could glaze it in with, like Sigvald Burgundy.
Yeah, you have to make tough choices and I would love to have a pure Magenta but it's also not a colour I use much so it's not a priority for me. I already have a couple small changes I want to make, like unifying the cold browns and bones into one and add a very bright yellow green and a pure blue.
100% agreed on the Scale Artist paint tasting good. Definitely do not use this if you are trying to break the habit of brush licking. Just my words of advice for anyone reading this. 🙃
Interesting video. I'd love to see you break down the Army Painter Fanatic 'complete set' into minimum actual triads, rather than their over extended six colours.

Haven't used GW products in two decades and will never use. So for me Vallejo and AK paints all the way. With an occasional Ammo for MiG. As contrast replacements I use Army Painter Speedpaints 2.0 and Vallejo Xpress and having an absolute blast with them.
I like squid pink by Vallejo, And the blues from Pro-Acryl, but overall a lot of the paints you've listed I've never tried, vallejo's kind of hard to get where I live. So I appreciate the video it'll at least get me to try different paints
Me ha encantado el vídeo! Gracias Juan. Gracias otra vez. Eres un crack.
Juan; Great video; very good explanations of your choices. Would love to see part 2 with metallics, contrasts, and technical paints. Thanks and keep the videos rolling.
Enhorabuena!
I am a little bit shocked that you did not include "The Red" from Kimera in the Reds. The best red on the market IMHO. But for the rest I agree, although I would use the AK equivalent since Vallejo is a little hard to find around here.
I was in a fence about the bright red, so many good options. I went for Pro Acryl because it's a Pyrrole instead of Toluidine and I personally prefer Pyrrole if I can only choose one. That being said I like both and use both and also use Scale75 Artist one that is Napthol. I WANT ALL THE REDS
Great video loads of information. I have a varied collection from a few makers, but slowly becoming a big user of AK 3rd generation, cant buy monument kimora or Duncan's two coats so they are not in my collection. Love to see a metallic a d washes video.
Thank you for this, and please do the follow-up. Decision paralysis is a real thing for me, which is why my brain says get them all, even if it is overkill.
@@JuanHidalgoMiniatures believe it or not, finding vallejo here is a challenge. I can get Duncan’s Two Thin Coats easier. Trying to get totally away from GW.
This is an amazing video, I would love to see it as a series. Maybe best fifty colors for beginners or something? My son is 6 and he paints more than I do, but he hasnt grasped shading and highlighting let alone mixing. He does some cool stuff with apple barrel or whatever, but it would be nice to step his collection up without worrying he's going to waste too much by over filling his pallette.
@@JuanHidalgoMiniatures lots of potential too. Paints for beginners, paints for young painters, metallics and technicals, speedpaint types, best tasting paints, best 50 blue paints...
Fantastic video. Its one of those you wonder why nobody every did it before. I think your color selection is outstanding, but I would drop either the Old Wood or the Baneblade browns and pick up a dark grey - my fav being Vallejo German Grey (preferably the Model Air version). Its a go to paint for anything that you want to be "not black", like any tires or rubber hoses. My only other issue might be the cold greys not being grey enough, but thats a minor quibble. Anyway, I love the video. I'd bet we start seeing it copied by other youtubers soon.
I really hope everyone copies it! As for the modifications, I already have plans to drop Baneblade AND Zandri and unify the bones with the Cold Browns. I'm going to fill those two spots with Yellow Green from Model Color and Dark Ultramarine from Scale75 Artist
I am almost finished doing this in my own paint station, but mostly using Vallejo Game Color paints, and I have to face the facts : I'm gonna have to pick up a bottle of Pink Horror and transfer it to a dropper bottle xD Thank you for the video, Juan, looking forward to part 2 with metallics, washes and technical paints
Very fun and informative video...hope you make the 2nd video you mentioned. Ironically I learn about some colours to add to my range, which pushes it well past 50 :oD
50 paints should be enough to cover just about all bases. Now, I fully second the notion about using what is available to you. Duncan Rhodes has awesome paints, but they're a little hard to come by for me. Same with Scale75. I adore Necro Gold, but there's only a handful of places in my country that have that range and they always seem to have issues with supply. On a different note: I'm seeing a lot of the new Model Color pots coming through. Now I love the old range. Awesome coverage and very matte. How are the new ones? Is it still the paint range we know and love or if it has change, what's different now?
The new Model Color formulation is a slight tweak on the new Game Color one. So really good IMO. Still cover very well (the colours that should cover) and very smooth and matte finish.
@@JuanHidalgoMiniatures New Game Color is incredibly smooth. This does sound great indeed. My local store will be getting it, so it'll be a matter of time before I get to experience it myself.

Thanks
Very interesting and I'm all in for second fifty showing contrast, metallic etc
Thanks
One of my favorite paints is off white by vallejo
It's good too
Love your stuff as always Juan. I would absolutely love to see a video about contrast paints, because I know you’re connoisseur.
Thanks
Me ha encantado el vídeo! Gracias Juan.
Gracias otra vez. Eres un crack.
Si, el de contrast viene pronto
Juan; Great video; very good explanations of your choices. Would love to see part 2 with metallics, contrasts, and technical paints. Thanks and keep the videos rolling.
Thanks
Thank you for the video! It would be interesting to see what colours you would like to add to 50 selected too.
This was a super fun exercise and I already have a couple of changes in mind.
I think I will make a follow up next month
@@JuanHidalgoMiniatures Thank you!
This was such a helpful video! looking forward to a part 2 soon hopefully👍
Thanks
Great video, very instructive. Thanks Juan ! We're all waiting for part two now 😄😉
Thanks
This is an excellent addition to your channel, sir. A future video on metallics and contrast/express paints would be interesting.
Thanks
Enhorabuena!
Gracias!
Fantastic video
Thanks
Please do also Metallic and Shade Video 😊 i would aprecciate it realy
Thanks
Great video loads of information. I have a varied collection from a few makers, but slowly becoming a big user of AK 3rd generation, cant buy monument kimora or Duncan's two coats so they are not in my collection. Love to see a metallic a d washes video.
Ak are amazing to be fair
Thank you for this, and please do the follow-up. Decision paralysis is a real thing for me, which is why my brain says get them all, even if it is overkill.
Thanks!
Deff do another video on other types of paints
Thanks
This just showed up. I am subscribed to your channel. Yes please a second video on inks and such
Thanks!
@@JuanHidalgoMiniatures believe it or not, finding vallejo here is a challenge. I can get Duncan’s Two Thin Coats easier. Trying to get totally away from GW.
@steveisaak4320 I'm getting TTC soon! So excited. AK is a also a great replacement for all the Vallejo paints
Excelente video Juan!!!
Please do a follow up video 🙏
It is really good content!
Thanks!
Not a bad idea!!
@@JuanHidalgoMiniatures Nice! Also, I really enjoyed your method of presentation in this one too.
oh man, how did the best paint on the planet: Vallejo Yellow-Green, not make it onto the list??!! :D
Great videos.
Thanks
Solid video Juan! Nuanced product discussion is there it is at.
Thanks
Was amazed to find out i already have about 75% of these, now ordering the ones i didnt have , thx JH looking forward to using the new ones :)
NICE
I am almost finished doing this in my own paint station, but mostly using Vallejo Game Color paints, and I have to face the facts : I'm gonna have to pick up a bottle of Pink Horror and transfer it to a dropper bottle xD
Thank you for the video, Juan, looking forward to part 2 with metallics, washes and technical paints
Pink Horror is AMAZING!
Very fun and informative video...hope you make the 2nd video you mentioned.
Ironically I learn about some colours to add to my range, which pushes it well past 50 :oD
Thanks
