    We just redid our bathroom with brushed brass fixtures, large marble tiles on the walls and a dolomite chevron floor! I'm loving it, it's so simple and elegant!!! Great tips in this video.

    I'm a contractor. The white and Grey shade porcelain tile is popular, combined with black tile trim and fixtures. Also the big tile 24x48 inches makes bathroom nice.

    Just completely renovated (DIY style) 3 floors of the house we’ve lived in for 40 years that still had all its original bathrooms, kitchen, lighting, wallpaper, etc.
    Even though I’ve always kept my eye on the interior design world, I spent 2 full years prior & during the Reno, watching almost every interior decorating Video/TikTok on YouTub, just to bring my eye up to speed and reaffirm my vision of how I wanted the end result so I had a timeless product going forward which wouldn’t have to be touched again for another 40 years or more!
    I have to say, during the 2 year journey, I found only 3 designers on TH-cam who really knew what the heck they were talking about and YOU are definitely one!! ….and keep in mind I watched EVERYTHING out there….hours per day (starting at 5:00am).
    Your videos are informative. Your explanations are easy to understand and your visual aids are good examples of your message. NICE JOB!
    I wish you would show more photos of your own work though vs. the work of others.
    Either way, THANK YOU for always keeping your content filled with quality, to the point ideas on current topics - THAT is SO helpful and much appreciated/enjoyed.

    Thank you for all your great ideas. We’re getting ready to replace our tub with a walk in shower. It’s so hard for me to coordinate tiles for the walls and the floor. The only thing I know I want is white hexagon tiles for the shower floor.

    • @JulieKhuu
      @JulieKhuu  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      White hex needs white grout which collects more dirt over time- a little more maintenance than dark grout, just a disclaimer 😉

    Your videos are packed with great info!
    I bought brushed brass faucets and shower fixtures but I’d like to mix it up with sconces, towel bars and drawer pulls. On one of the videos you listed combinations that work well together. I should have taken notes! I’m thinking matte black. I’m using a greige and terra cotta color scheme, very earthy.
    What are your recommended metal combinations?

    Zellige tile looks very nice in square shapes. Unfortunately the ceramic square tiles from decades ago do look dated but the zellige wouldstand the test of time even in square shapes. I did see a very beautiful update to a blue square shaped ceramic tile which would make me keep it if the rest of the bath were in tact. So if you have a good quality older bathroom consider not tearing it apart and check out designs which enhance the look. You may just like what you see while doing good by not throwing away what you have.

    • @JulieKhuu

    the zellige tiles are interesting, and my favorite part of the video. i also like the vanities anchored between two walls, floating or not.
    least favorite was the vessel sinks (great way to get nasty bacteria on forearms and sleeves), as well as the mirrors that weren't square or rectangular.

    Hi Julie, my bathroom is narrow rectangular and has no windows. 1350 mm wide, 2260 mm long and 2400 mm high. I’m thinking of putting checkered black and white floor which will continue to the hall and midnight teal metro tiles.
    Can you please tell me if this look will work? What finish I should use? I was thinking brushed chrome. And what color vanity units? I don’t want my bathroom looking cold and uninviting. The rest of the colors in the flat are midnight teal and bluish gray. Many thanks! Kind Regards
    Dorota

    • @JulieKhuu
      @JulieKhuu  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I love brass with blues to warm up the palette. Vanity can be wood or something in a natural finish to break up the monochrome Dorota. I would look for checkered bathrooms on Pinterest to get inspiration from what others have done 👍🏻

    Hi Julie. I love the Zellige tiles and thinking of it for the main bath. I just bought a 1960 rambler with a pink tub. Thinking of keeping the pink for now. Do you like that idea? I don’t want to add much pink, just complement. I like neutral and clean simple design in mood of MCM. Thinking of the brass fixtures. Can you tell I am watching your video bathroom trends with timeless appeal.

    I was wondering about a small refrigerator in a bathroom. I have medicine that need to be kept cold. Also a relative keeps her makeup in one on top of her sink. Is there a brand that could be incorporated into cabinets? Even the small ones need space for air circulation.

    • @JulieKhuu
      @JulieKhuu  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Your cabinet would need a mesh panel face like the ones used for speakers Anna. Those mini refrigerators do have a vent, so on the countertop would be best or somewhere discreet like underneath your open vanity with a pull-out shelf

      Check out my video on common design mistakes for bathrooms NA. The key here will be to use textured non-slip surfaces and ADA grab bars wherever you need. Color palette is up to you, but warm light neutrals feel bright and airy without looking too stark and minimal like all white would be.

  • @isabelle3365
    @isabelle3365 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thank you ! Great video as usual with a lot of ideas. I just signed to get our bathrooms updated this coming spring, so i have to source materials and figure out some details. I was thinking of having the water coming from the wall into the sink as a good idea for maintenance..but then the sinks must be close to the wall..and that seems to let just space for a mirror but no cabinets mirror that i enjoy to use...(and i don’t wish to have cabinet niches into the wall).
    It seems there are 3 ways to install the water arrival around the sink (over, on, next to) What would be the easiest plumbing choise for a sink regarding maintenance ?

    • @JulieKhuu
      @JulieKhuu  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Deck mounted since the plumbing is conveniently located under the vanity Isabelle

  • @Shrinksjp

    I disagree about the polished brass. Polished brass looks really rich if the brass is solid and plain. This is especially true if the bathroom is all white or all black. Satin brass also looks great. The quality is the key. I remodeled two bathrooms. One is all white with white tile from the floor up to 4 ft. and then white marble with dramatic black veins from the tiles to ceiling. The floor is highly polished penny rounds with each round encircled with brass and copper rings. The vanity is all white, Italian marble top and brushed brass faucets. The second bathroom has 4 by 4 turquoise tiles from the floor up to 4 ft. and then a mix or Italian carrera marble and Calcutta marble. The same marble mix makes up the floor. There is a marble jacuzzi. Custom mahogany cabinets on the wall and a full mirror from the toilet up with custom mahogany arch. The faucets are very expensive polished brass outside and inside and the sink is a Sherle Wagner pedestal with prairie flowers and the bowl is scalloped and edged with antique 24 kt. gold. The ceiling is white with blue mother-of-pearl swirls. A bathroom with no variation, such as marble all over the place, looks very cheap.

      I wouldn’t say “less timeless” but definitely “more stark” if not styled

    These bathrooms are looking dated already! The only way to keep it classic is to keep the bathroom simple. If you don't like simple, do what you love and who cares if it looks dated, I have an original bathroom from 1955, does it look dated? Yes, it’s original from 1955.

    Did not like any of these bathrooms, maybe it’s an American only trend?

    Just a comment on the music in this video: please stay away from pulsating volume. It's incredibly distracting, jarring, and nauseating, especially when waiting for the narrator to make their next comment. Thanks!

    Raw unfinished brass will ugly up over time. Not a good idea!

      Depends whether you like the patina or not. I live in a 1914 home with brass everything and find the patina on our lightswitches and doorknob plates to be so lovely.

      I agree with Kelly- it all depends on your aesthetic Catherine 👍🏻

    Such a great and informative video but almost couldn’t watch it all because the music is SO annoying. Like someone turning the volume up and down and up and down and up and down and up and down…get it?
