Two historical notes: 1) some of the lyrics are the (translated) quotes from Otto von Bismarck, the German leader for whom the ship was named. 2) inside the compass that the older man was checking at the end are the longitude & latitude coordinates of where the Bismarck went down. These guys pay real attention to the history behind their songs.

They have a separate Sabaton History channel ft. Indy, so yes, they pay attention to history AND are interested in it!

      @@jipasd - 100% agree.
They have their own History channel, where the members of the band are discussing stores behing a specific songs, lyrics, and why they actually wrote a specific song. All related to history. Respect.

Fun fact ...the captain of the fishing boat in the beginning is played by the son of a sailor who served on the the Bismark at the time of it's sinking (survivor, I think, but not sure)

My uncle used to built miniature versions of different battle ships. The Bismarck was always his favorite. He worked about 5 years on it.
Seeing this reactions reminds of my next Sabaton concert in about three weeks 😉

The Bismarck was apart of the 2 Bismarck class Battleships and the flag ship of the German Navy (Kriegsmarine). The Bismarck was launched on February 14th 1939 and was tasked with sinking merchant ships from the U.S with other German vessels such as Prinz Eugen, Scharnhorst and Gneisenau. in 1941 the Bismarck left Norway by hiding in the Norwegian fjords, a Norwegian reconnaissance plane spotted the Bismarck and let the British admiralty know of the ships existence. The Bismarck left port along with the Prinz Eugen and was planned to go through the Denmark Straight however the Danish resistance notified the British navy and had 2 light cruisers shadow the Bismarck and Prinz Eugen, the British now knowing Bismarcks existence and now knows where they're going decided to intercept the 2 German ships with HMS Hood and HMS Prince of Wales. The Battle of the Denmark Straight lasted around 10 minutes with the royal navy taking a devastating loss, one of Bismarck's 380mm shells hit the ammunition magazine inside HMS Hood which caused a massive explosion leaving the ship to split in 2 and sink rapidly. After Sinking HMS Hood both German ships focused on HMS Prince of Wales and she started to sale in the same spot as Hood was but managed to slip away thanks to a smoke screen but not without taking heavy damage from both ships. After the sinking of HMS Hood and word got out to the British public Winston Churchill ordered every ship available to sink the Bismarck at all costs, the Royal Navy called many different ships from around the world to help sink the Bismarck, one of these was Force H which had HMS Renown, HMS Resolution, HMS Eagle and HMS Ark Royal. HMS Ark Royal was tasked to launch Swordfish Torpedo bombers to sink the German ships but after many failed attempts and almost sinking some of their own ships they managed to find the Bismarck and drop their torpedoes but most missed except 1 which damaged the rudder while the Bismarck was doing evasive manoeuvres to avoid the torpedoes which has now caused the Bismarck to go in circles and go in a spiritic path. Once the Germans realized they can't fix the rudder they radioed Berlin and said "Ship Disabled we will fight till the last shell long live the Fuhrer". Once the Royal navy caught up with the Bismarck they fired everything they had, even a Polish ship was involved in the Battle and ignored orders to stay in formation and got so close to the Bismarck they flashed the Bismarck with a message saying "I am a Pol" and started firing everything including the machine guns. After a good solid 20 minutes of shelling the Bismarck all the German ships guns were destroyed and the crew was jumping into the water, once the British navy started to run low on ammo and fuel they decided to torpedo the Bismarck and pick up any survivors before heading home. HMS Dorsetshire launched torpedoes into the Bismarck (which didn't do anything) and the Bismarck slipped under the waves thanks to the German crew scuttling him to prevent capture. out of 2,221 men who served on the Bismarck only 114 and 1 cat survived the sinking of the Bismarck. But you can also go to the Sabaton History Channel that talks about the Bismarck in much greater detail than me.

The one who performed that guitar solo is named Tommy Johansson and he has his own youtube channel. Tommy is a multi-instrumentalist and a singer with a crazy high range. He's similar to Floor Jansen in the sense that he can sing whatever he wants to and absolutely crush it. He can play guitar, bass, keyboard, and has even played drums in the past. He makes all of the backing tracks for his covers himself and he even did some of the backing tracks for Floor's covers on her channel. He started doing covers of songs over covid lockdown and so far he has like 70 or so on his channel because he puts one out consistently every Friday. He even put 24 songs out over the month of December as his own Christmas Advent calendar. Where he finds the time to make videos between touring with Sabaton and his own band Majestica is one of the world's great mysteries because hot damn, he's a busy man with all the content he puts out, lol. I highly recommend checking his channel out. He has such a large amount of covers done and he does them so often, that you'll have a very steady flow of content from him.
I should mention that he's also very friendly and appreciative of reactors doing his stuff so you shouldn't even have to mask the videos for copyright. He's reached out to several reactors in their comment sections, and has even physically sat in on a Sabaton reaction with a reactor named @GivenToe. Tommy and @OldSkuleNerd are also friends now, which is super cool of Tommy to be that open to the people appreciating his stuff.
There's a ton to pick from but I'll link his cover of Journey's song "Separate Ways" to give you an idea of what you can expect, if you decide to react to his videos.

Have a great time at the Sabaton concert... I've seen them up close a few times in the US. Always a fun, energetic experience... 🤘🤘
Joakim Broden is the vocalist and plays keyboards as well on Sabaton records... Par Sundstrom (bass) is the co-founder of Sabaton and co-manager of the band... Chris Rorland and Tommy Johannson (guitars) and Hannes Van Dahl (drums) are the rest... Van Dahl is also the husband of Floor Jansen (Nightwish)

to put it in to perspective. after she sunk the hood the british went wild and sent pretty much anything afloat after her. (churchill said she was the one one thing he was afraid off hence why her sister shp tirpitz was almost constantly bombed to keep her out of the war.) so it was one ship against an entire fleet including the mighty stringbag torp bomber which crippled her so that the ships could finally finish her off. (stringbag was the nickname of the swordfish because like the fabled ladies strinbags it could carry anything.)

@Bisscute: Just in case you can't read it, the quote at the end of the video is this:
"War knows no nation. This video is dedicated to all those who fought to the bitter end, in the Battle of the Atlantic."
The Battle of the Atlantic took place before 1944, and was the struggle between the British Royal Navy, American Navy, and German Kriegsmarine. The outcome determined if the Allied could build up enough war materiél to invade Normandy in 1944, which if you know your history, the German Kriegsmarine lost.

Show this and other Sabaton videos in school history lessons! Joakim, the singer, was probably bashing his leg to make sure it was still there - the guys froze making this video on the boat! The boat, named "Primo Victoria", took it's name from another Sabaton song - worth a look? My father was Navy in that war so it means a lot to me. "Battle of the Atlantic" at the end. 1939-1945.

  • @willghezzi
    @willghezzi ปีที่แล้ว +1

The "Bismarck" , and his sister ship "Tirpitz", were the 2 largest battleships ever built in Europe (250 meters long, 36 meters wide, and displacing more than 50.000 tones) and they were the pride of the kriegsmarine (Germany's militari navy) during ww2. The "Bismarck" set sail in May 1941 to reach the Atlantic and destroy merchant convoys, but he was intercepted by the British and during a brief fight, destroyed the former flagship of the British fleet and pride of the Royal Navy, the worldwide famous battlecruiser "Hood", by penetrating her armor and detonating her aft main ammunition magazine and killing all 1400 members of her crew except for 3 men, and heavily damaged the battleship "Prince of Wales". This enraged the prime minister Winston Churcil who ordered all his ships in the Atlantic to abandon their operations and destroy the Bismarck. In total more than 40 ships participated to the hunt, making it the biggest naval hunt in history. Meanwhile Bismarck, who had received a hit during the first battle, was leaking fuel and was trying to reach the French port of Saint Nazaire, in occupied France, for repair. After 3 days of playing cat and mouse with the British, Bismarck was attacked by airplanes launched from the aircraft carrier "Ark Royal" and hit by a torpedo in the stern, which jammed his rudders during evasive manuvers, meaning that he was forced to sail in circles, just a few miles away from reaching air cover. In the end battleships "King George V" and "Rodney", along side the heavy cruisers "Norfolk" and "Dorsedshire" fought the already doomed battleship and, during the following 90 minutes completely destroyed it. However, despite having all his guns destroyed, and having received more than 400 hits (out of the 2800 shells that the British had fired at it) his armor was still mostly intact and the ship was still afloat. So the british launched another 4 torpedoes and he disappeared beneath the waves. After inspection of the wreck however it had been discovered that the torpedoes did no significant damage thanks to the battleship's extensive underwater protection, and that Bismarck had probably been scuttled by his crew (although it should be noted that many historians believe that it would have eventually sunk due to the damage received). Of the 2200 men that served on it only 114 survived

To clarify something it seem the video is not doing ( granted its a music video not a historical video so they cant go over every little detail )
But Bismarck was scuttled, it did not sink as a result of direct fire.
Despite being attacked by a fleet of ships and planes ( 1 aircraft carrier, 2 battleships, 2 heavy cruisers, 1 light cruiser, 7 destroyers against Bismarck on it's own in the fight it was sunk. Before that last fight. It engaged and won another battle )
Having lost its rudder, and most of the guns where out of action, the choice was made to scuttle the ship. It was not sinking because of enemy fire.
Before being scuttled but while being unable to steer the Bismarck did damage a allied battleship and a cruiser.
Not to speak of the battle before its last battle, the battle that lead the allies to send everything after the Bismarck.
Here Bismarck sank 1 battleship, the pride of the English navy, HMS Hood and damaged the Battlecruiser HMS Prince of Wales at the cost of 1,428 dead Allied sailors.
But in the final battle, the ship without the rudder could not steer, and while it did fight for hours without a rudder, and damaged a lot of allied ships that out numbered it greatly.
And the Germans did not want the ship to be dragged to port by the British or in any way boarded, so they gave the order for it to be scuttled.
Out of some 2,221 sailors, only a 115 was alive at the end. In part due to the allied navy leaving the place and the sailors in the water out of fear of German U-boats.
    --
Also, history aside. The guitar player of Sabaton Tommy Johansson is an amazing singer on his own.
And he actually upload a lot of TH-cam videos where he does covers of songs.
I would highly recommend you to react to some of them, it will blow your mind.
A good would would be the cover for Steelheart: She's gone, since I think you reacted to that song.
